Any Iphone users out there? This ships in October, looks to be a good tool for training one's thoughts if there should be a need. Or, there may be quite a few people bashing their iphones in frustration!

"The human brain is the most powerful, complex thing in the universe, and for the first time, we're able to harness its amazing power and connect it to everyday technology,"
- Paul Lowchareonkul, Founder and CEO of PLX Devices Inc

Grounded in medical research, a new headset connected to an iPhone allows you to improve your ability to meditate and concentrate by safely detecting your brain's electrical pulses.

For years, this technology has been used by doctors to treat epilepsy and seizures in patients. The headset senses the faintest electrical impulses transmitted through your skull to the surface of your forehead and converts these analog signals into digital signals.

The XWave headset from California-based company PLX Devices senses your attention and meditation levels and allows you to train your mind to sharpen your attention span and improve your ability to meditate.

The device comes bundled with the XWave app that includes a number of exercises aimed at training your brain. Objectives include levitating a ball on the iDevice’s screen, changing a color based on the relaxation level of your brain and training your brain to maximize its attention span.

Whether it is relaxation, brain training, entertainment, games, social networking, sports, sleep, the possibilities are endless with the XWave hardware device. Some of the applications that are being developed at the moment will allow you to play games by controlling objects with your mind, control the lights in your home or select the type of music through your iPod based on your mood.

Sounds very interesting, but I find it annoying when they use the word 'meditation' for such mundane activities such as concentration, focus and relaxation. These three things play a role in mediation to be sure, but they are by no means synonymous with meditation.
Interesting idea though.

I agree Solphilos, but some people cannot even concentrate for more then 5 minutes, never mind focus on something.
I am hoping once it is in the hands of the young ones, they will see more of "the power of the mind" and less of "the power of the computer". In the end, sometimes it takes technology to take us back to our humble beginnings, our thoughts do have all the power, but most people have forgotten on how to utilize them properly.

in love & light

Makes me wonder what is really in the app it self.
How much money had to be spent to make it work (properly)?.
Who they originally experimented on to get the finding they are selling?
And if they are working on finding the THE X-MEN properties, we hold.
And is it compatible with the RFID chip?
If not then will it replace the RFID chip?
Will it be for prepay costumers as well? You know the more the merrier...

but if if can take signals from your mind to operate things ... then whats to stop that action the other way around and signals be introduced to the brain? Mind control anyone ? Just a thought .

If you want the smoking gun for mind control just turn on the TV and watch it for a few days. This thing teaches you to control your mental state. That is the opposite of mind control where your mental state is being controlled for you. The PTB probably have a big problem with this device being out there. Finally a way to get people to focus coherent thought other than new age theories on it. It is just the beginning. Wait until they have entire video games in 3d that you can run with your mind.

Shadowstalker and johnd. I'm with you on this one. All great questions on who, how it was developed and over time can't the app be "tweaked" towards who knows what effect . This reminds me of the episode called " The Game" in the Star Trek the Next Generation TV series (Ashley Judd was in this episode) where they(the Enterprise crew) put on headphones ( given to Commander Riker by a beautiful alien woman while he was on vacation)that also beamed a small beam of light into your eye and a virtual game appeared in front of you where you mentally put a flying disk into a tornado shaped vortice rotating on a grid (there were sounds that went with it). The game gave you physical pleasure when you suceeded.(addictive after one use according to the plot) The higher the level you went the greater the pleasure. Eventually everyone on the Enterprise starship was walking around with these headsets on and not doing their job. The crew kept asking "what level are you on" trying to be better than the other person (does all of this sound familiar ?) --Even Capt Picard was addicted. This game stimulated the pleasure centers of the brain AND lowered the ability to make sound, logical decisions at the same time. An evil plot by aliens to take over The Federation-- this episode is from the late 1980's and is very relevant today.
