I've read a few of his books. "The Illustrated Book of Sacred Scriptures", "The Jesus Mysteries" and "Jesus And The Lost Goddess", all very good.

When I read "The Jesus Mysteries" it was a real eye opener for me. I've read it probably a half dozen times now. I have to say at this point I'm not sure I agree with the view that there was no "historical Jesus", which is argued for in the book, but I completely agree that Christianity had it's origins as a Jewish Mystery religion that was influenced just as much by the pagan Mysteries and Neoplatonism as it was the Essenes. Even though I don't really agree with all of his views on the historicity of Jesus, I highly recommend people read that book because it really makes you realize not only how diverse 1st Century Christianity was but also how ruthless and dishonest the suppression of the Gnostics and the creation of orthodox theology really was.
