Seems to be coming down thick and heavy now...

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has warned students a gunman is on campus, with an MIT police officer shot and killed.

Cambridge police said the officer was responding to a report of a disturbance in the area when he was shot and suffered 'multiple wounds'.

He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

In a statement, Cambridge police said the officer was responding to a report of a disturbance.

"According to authorities, the officer was found evidencing multiple gunshot wounds," the statement said.

"He was transported to the hospital and pronounced deceased.

"Authorities launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances of the shooting.

"There are no other victims. No arrests have been made."

It comes after two bombs at the city's marathon killed three people and injured 180 on Monday.

Police are still looking for the gunman and the campus is on lockdown.

The incident is not believed to be connected to the Boston Marathon bombings, with early indications suggesting it may be a robbery gone wrong.

New info from the MSM:

There are also reports indicating more shots have been fired and explosions had been witnessed as police were led into a chase into nearby Watertown, reportedly following a car-jacking.

A Boston police scanner reportedly indicated 'officers had been told to switch off their mobile phones for fear of setting off more explosions'.

It is not clear if the two incidents are linked.

Hi Mods,
I started this thread when it was unknown if the two Boston incidents were linked. Now that they clearly are this thread could possibly be merged with the other Boston Bombing thread, or just deleted.

Thanks
