Two close friends were diagnosed with breast cancer recently so I did a great deal of research on effective natural treatments with solid evidence to support their claims. There is a huge industry out there offering natural and alternative cancer treatments but a sick person only has so much time, energy and money to invest in treatment so it is worth your while to do careful research. It is also worthwhile to find a skilled naturopath who has experience with adjuvant cancer care.

Of all the cancer books I researched, I was most impressed by this one:

There is a massive amount of information out there on breast cancer, and I found myself overwhelmed by the sheer volume of it, and the fact that much of it was not well written. When I encountered the Mayo clinic breast cancer information pages I found them information packed, but written to give clear information to the layperson. I would recommend that anyone who wants excellent, evidence based, extremely well written information about breast cancer start with the Mayo Clinic pages. (Even though the Mayo Clinic supports chemo, radiation and surgery the actual information pages about the disease is helpful to anyone, no matter what treatment they choose)

A lot depends on the individual affected, their budget, etc.
For a do-it-yourself approach, drinking lots of raw fruit and vegie juices has been effective for many people with cancer.
Sprouted and fermented foods are very helpful too, as well as proteolytic enzymes.

NorthStar I agree with you that Anita's book and talks are extremely important. I interviewed her last year and she did not do any chemo or radiation treatment. She knew that chemo & radiation would kill her. Anita's story is essentially a story about (IMHO) how when it is your time to go you will go, when it is not your time to go you will not.

And Anita has a lot more wise teachings about not judgement and non fear...and the importance of loving yourself and enjoying life and having fun!

I am sorry to hear about your friend. There is a lot of excellent advise from other members here. She needs a lot of whole foods and nutrition to heal her.

I have discovered that a B vitamin called IP-6 & Inositol has been proven to normalize cancer cells. There is a free book and also a large amount of info re this nutrient and how it heals many types of illnesses. If you search IP-6 or inositol you will find a lot of information about it.

I have 2 friends that are fighting cancer and have just started taking IP6/inositol and I am taking it myself as a prevention. Most health food stores carry it so it would be very easy to find.

There has been so much good information posted I feel guilty adding to your workload but I would also feel guilty if I didn't recommend Jane Plant's 'Your Life in Your Hands' which was published about 10 years ago. A scientist diagnosed with agressive breast cancer and a poor prognosis she researched the disease herself and even after several operations managed to halt it. She is still cancer free. Very briefly, breast cancer is hormone based and researching cancer rates around the world Dr Plant found those communities eating little or no dairy had low incidences of breast cancer. She stopped eating dairy products and her tumours went away. Another famous study along the same lines was T. Colin Campbell's 'The China Study' which can be downloaded free online. My dad just started on this after ~10 years with lung cancer, 1/4 lung removed, and a few recent complications (the cancer is almost impossible to remove, and not a candidate for modern treatment even). The last report I got from my mom was that he seems to be doing a fair bit better already, was out pruning the apple trees on the weekend, etc. It's only been a few weeks but I hope the indicated progress continues ;) I will be happy to update all of Avalon after a few months and let you know if there has been any progress.

Not everyone may know what MSM is -- but I definitely second that -- in fact everyone should supplement with MSM ... seriously. If you take 3000mg/day or more for one month, and compare your skin from before and after (among other things like gastro health), you'll never quit taking it. Humans are chronically insufficient in bio-available sulphur, so either get on a raw food diet (tiny amounts of cooking / processing breaks down the MSM into useless molecules - which partly why humans are deficient), or seriously check into MSM supplementation.
