Are you looking forward to Windows 10? Many people are thanks to the resounding disappointment Windows 8 seemed to be with the masses. The last Windows version I used was 7, and I have to say I thought it ran smoothly and I don’t remember any problems with it. Windows 10 is making some big changes, however, starting with the way you login to the computer in the first place. Forget passwords – Windows 10 will apparently let you login with a scan of your face. In other words, it will use biometric data to unlock your computer. Apart from a scan of your whole face, it will also reportedly allow you to login with a retinal scan as well as a read of your fingerprint(s). This feature will be known as Windows Hello.

Microsoft is doing this due to the ease with which passwords are hacked, and while no system is completely foolproof, this move certainly seems to be a step in the right direction.

I currently use a Macbook, and without the KeyChain feature, I’m not sure what I’d do about all of the passwords I have; it really is unfortunate we are now so dependent upon passwords that things could really get messed up if we forget one of them.

Apart from the biometric data feature, Cortana will also be available as a digital assistant.

The release date of Windows 10 is still unknown, but hopefully it’ll be sometime this year. Are you excited for the new operating system?

A cheeky jockey gave stunned punters an eyeful after his trouser elastic snapped mid-race leaving his bare bottom in full view as he raced around the course. Blake Shinn was left red-faced after the unfortunate wardrobe malfunction occurred just as he approached the finish line at Canterbury with his horse Miss Royale.

But there was nothing Blake could do if he was to continue and finish the race in a strong position. Shinn told Australian media: "The elastic went during the race, but I had to keep going." The hilarious incident occurred in the Hyland Race Colours Plate at Canterbury Race Course in Australia.

Unfortunately for Blake, he was pipped to the finishing post by jockey Tommy Berry, but he took the whole race in his stride. Now I know how Jen Hawkins feels. He later tweeted: "Tried to give my fellow jocks a bum steer but unfortunately backfired."

And it seemed Blake's Twitter followers found the whole situation hilarious. One follower wrote: "At least you had a crack," while another added: "Surely you'll get some underwear or pants deal out of this."

I did my Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage in April/May 2004. To be authentic, I walked the whole French Way; 34 days, 18 kg of gear, 764 km on foot. I lost 8 kg in weight!

I had read a lot about the Camino being a spiritual experience, and I wanted to try and capture on film my own reactions as I walked the way.

I find watching the film a little difficult, I feel a little embarrassed at just how earnest and honest I was trying to be. But the reaction from viewers has been amazing. Still, all these years later, people contact me thanking me for documenting my journey.

So I've decided to release the whole film, in it's entirety on youtube. I will have ads running in the video and encourage you to explore these ads, any income for a independent filmmaker is handy, and will help me continue my current journey of trying to film the whole world.

Feel free to share, comment and like the video. I'm always happy to hear how my little film helped encourage people to do the Camino themselves. It is an amazing journey, a one of a kind experience.

The poor wants to be rich, but the rich doesn't want to be poor, because there is no need to be one. The first attention should be on securing one's life. Meaning having plenty of food, water, comfort and security in addition to the psychological needs which can fall under the comfort section. Only after having those requirements can one start her or his focus on things that really matter. If you are worrying about how to get your food for the day, your safety or your paycheque then you should do something about that soon.

The Church - Van Deusenville

Van Deusenville is a hamlet within the village of Housatonic, which is within the town of Great Barrington, which is within the state of Massachusetts. The church (The Guthrie Center) is also known locally as the Old Trinity Church and is ground zero for the 50th Anniversary of the song "The Alice's Restaurant Massacree." This is where it all began 50 years ago this coming Thanksgiving (2015).

I got back to the church for our 3 day revival to find this newly painted VW Microbus on the front lawn. What a great surprise! The vehicle was donated to the church and painted just a few days ago to coincide with our appearance.

The photo was taken by my friend and neighbor, Jaane Doe, and I did a quick (and not so great) fix to remove the wires which run down the street in front of the old building. George Laye, our director and I go back decades as friends, and he really went to great lengths to get this thing done in time. Freaking great!

It's become the new photo-op for many of our visitors, and will likely remain there all summer - or until we get the thing registered - whichever comes first. Once it's got plates I might wanna drive down to Washington, DC and start taking out the garbage there... It worked out well the first time, although this time we might need a fleet. The VW Microbus is now relegated to history. Maybe you just had to be there. More than just remembering, history can instill generations with a sense of the inevitable triumph of what is right, just and joyful.

On a side note: There will be a small fleet of registered VW Microbuses coming to the church on Sunday to help ferry participants of the “Garbage Trail Walk to Massacree HD” around.

Peace and Love are not empty words or slogans... It's the reality beyond comprehension and understanding. It's what actually exists whether or not you can see through the trash. With that in mind, it's good to have a vehicle handy to take out the garbage.

IF YOU DO NOT, then the state can come and confiscate the vehicle and there is not a damn thing you can do about it since it is not yours.

'Why do stingrays throw themselves high in the air ?

Would this be because they are being chased, or perhaps to throw parasites off their bodies? I wonder what ideas you have."

I've read some theories about this, but we humans never know for sure why animals behave the way they do. The animals know but they aren't telling. For us it's all guesswork.

I assumed rays jumped for the same reason most fish jump: to avoid being eaten. Sharks prey on rays, and a vertical leap from the water might confuse a shark.

Julie's other guess could be true, too. Remoras (also called suckerfish) often stick to rays for free rides, and a good jump could dislodge the pest.

And here's an observation worth pondering: People have seen both eagle and manta rays delivering baby rays while in the air. This behavior hasn't been seen in stingrays, however, because stingrays don't jump.

Most people use the term stingray to mean all rays, but researchers classify these odd-shaped fish into three distinct families: stingrays, eagle rays and manta rays.

Stingrays have roundish bodies and would rather hide than jump. These disclike fish, about 4 feet wide in Hawaii, wiggle over the ocean floor looking for snails, worms and crustaceans. When it's time to rest, stingrays nestle into the sand, sometimes covering themselves until only their eyes show.

It's when stingrays lie buried like this that human waders can get a nasty surprise. Stepping on a stingray causes the alarmed animal to swing its tail toward the offender, puncturing the skin with its poisonous stinger.

Stingrays (and their stings) are rare in Hawaii.

Eagle and manta rays resemble kites rather than discs, and their pectoral fins flap like wings. Like stingrays, eagle rays also eat shelled animals from the ocean floor, but unlike stingrays, they don't rest there. Instead, eagle rays cruise well off the bottom, and sometimes at the surface, perhaps looking for concentrations of shellfish.

Eagle rays often gather in small groups and "fly" in formation. Hawaii's one species (there are 10) grows to about 6 feet wide.

Each eagle ray has a stinger at the base of its tail, but stings from eagle rays are rare. They're always on the move, and it's hard to get close to them.

But accidents happen. In March, in Florida, an airborne eagle ray collided with a woman traveling 25 mph in a boat. "Stingray attack kills woman," shouted some headlines. But it was no attack. The tragedy was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Both the ray and the woman died from the impact.

The largest rays are mantas, weighing up to 3,000 pounds with a width of more than 20 feet. Manta rays tangled in harpoon or anchor lines have towed small boats around for hours.

They look scary but manta rays are harmless. These plankton eaters have no stingers.

All three kinds of rays produce three or four eggs that stay in the mother's uterus. After the thin shells dissolve, the mother secretes a nutritious fluid that the developing young take up through skin and stomach.

No one knows for sure if eagle and manta rays leap to avoid predators, lose parasites or ease labor pains. It's possible, though, that none of the above apply. Maybe rays jump because it's fun.

Because of ocean currents, a great majority of the plastic that ends up in the oceans finds its way into these garbage patches, poisoning marine life and ending up in the food supply of the planet. Toxic chemicals like PCBs and DDTs are absorbed by the plastic and cause diseases like cancer, malformation and impaired reproductive ability.

That the plastic lands in these rotating patches is a double edged sword. It is horrible, yes, and causes a multitude of problems, but it also localizes the pollutants and gives us a place to start when cleaning up. It's estimated that 1/3rd of the world's oceanic plastic pollution is within the great Pacific Garbage Patch (number 01 on the map above).

One young man saw the problem early in his life. Boyan Slat, at the age of 18, gave a riveting Ted Talk unveiling his plan to clean the pollution using passive flotation devices and the ocean's own current. After all, "why move through the oceans, if the oceans can move through you?" In 2014, at the age of 19, he realized the plan was actually feasible, and now it's going into effect off the coast of Japan.

The currents pull the sea life under the floatation devices but the lighter-than-water plastics float into the barriers. What would have taken humanity 70,000 years to clean with boats and nets can be cleaned, instead, in decades.

This is a public relations film on Florida State University that, in two brief scenes, features a young Jim Morrison (years before his "much more recognized" role as lead singer for The Doors). The film emphasizes the need for more college-educated Floridians to work in the state's rapidly expanding industries. It contains campus, classroom, homecoming parade and football scenes.

The video was found accidentally by Jaime Madden. When he watched the video he said, "Oh my god! This is Jim Morrison!" Finds like these definitely highlight an archivist's duty to pay attention to detail!

Before attending UCLA Film School, Jim Morrison briefly attended FSU. This video was shot in 1964 while he was enrolled there. About a year later, after Jim graduated from UCLA, he led a Bohemian lifestyle in nearby Venice Beach, California. And that's when he met Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore and formed The Doors rock band.

California’s Sea Lion Die-Off



Thousands of sick sea lion pups are washing up ashore and dying along the California coast, with over 3,100 pups reportedly becoming stranded in 2015 so far — an amount greater than the reported strandings from 2004 to 2012 combined.

Scientists believe that warming ocean temperatures and changes in availability of their prey are likely contributing to this unprecedented spike in deaths. And as sea lion mothers are forced to travel further offshore to find food, many pups are left to fend for themselves.

VICE News spoke with the California Wildlife Center in Malibu about the challenges of keeping up with the thousands of sick and starving sea lion pups washing up along the coast, as well as what this crisis means for the overall health of the ocean, and the future of the sea lion population.

So religious fundamentalists and atheists alike are products of religion, both of which are sitting back and doing nothing and living in lies. A letter from Albert Einstein to his daughter: on The Universal Force of Love

In the late 1980s, Lieserl, the daughter of the famous genius, donated 1,400 letters, written by Einstein, to the Hebrew University, with orders not to publish their contents until two decades after his death. This is one of them, for Lieserl Einstein.

"When I proposed the theory of relativity, very few understood me, and what I will reveal now to transmit to mankind will also collide with the misunderstanding and prejudice in the world.

I ask you to guard the letters as long as necessary, years, decades, until society is advanced enough to accept what I will explain below.

There is an extremely powerful force that, so far, science has not found a formal explanation to. It is a force that includes and governs all others, and is even behind any phenomenon operating in the universe and has not yet been identified by us. This universal force is LOVE.

If instead of E = mc2, we accept that the energy to heal the world can be obtained through love multiplied by the speed of light squared, we arrive at the conclusion that love is the most powerful force there is, because it has no limits.

After the failure of humanity in the use and control of the other forces of the universe that have turned against us, it is urgent that we nourish ourselves with another kind of energy…

If we want our species to survive, if we are to find meaning in life, if we want to save the world and every sentient being that inhabits it, love is the one and only answer.

Perhaps we are not yet ready to make a bomb of love, a device powerful enough to entirely destroy the hate, selfishness and greed that devastate the planet.

However, each individual carries within them a small but powerful generator of love whose energy is waiting to be released.

When we learn to give and receive this universal energy, dear Lieserl, we will have affirmed that love conquers all, is able to transcend everything and anything, because love is the quintessence of life.

Some good news for Las Vegas ...

Third water intake at Lake Mead to help declining water supply

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Water is a precious commodity on the desert, but the water level on Lake Mead is down. Without action, the entire valley could face some serious shortages in the future.
That's what triggered the construction of a new pipe in 2005 to help reach our shrinking Colorado River water supply.

Action News had the chance to see the new pipe on Monday before it goes into use.

The white ring around Lake Mead is a familiar scene. The water level has fallen 130 feet since 2000. The problem is Lake Mead is responsible for supplying 90 percent of the valley's drinking water.

That's why the Southern Nevada Water Authority has been constructing a 3rd intake to help pump water from Lake Mead.

The water authority says the new intake will be put into service in late August or early September. The Bureau of Reclamation says over the next decade the water level could fall below 1,000 feet. This new intake will allow the water authority to still reach our declining water supply.

It is expected to be complete in 2020.

With five percent of the world’s biodiversity, the unique geography of Costa Rica is a hotspot for eco-tourism and conservation work. I was also fortunate to get shots of aurora borealis lighting up the sky while the Bárðarbunga volcano was erupting. The orange/red glow you will see in the distance is from the hot lava spewing from the volcano.

Migrants Stranded on Kos: Europe or Die

Demonized by some of the UK's tabloid press and holiday-makers alike, VICE News meets the actual migrants labeled as "boat people" on the Greek island of Kos. Many of these migrants have fled the Assad regime and the Islamic State in the Middle East, only to be met with hostility as they reach the island's shores.

The Greek islands are on the new frontier of a major gateway into Europe. The eastern Mediterranean route into Greece, Cyprus, and Bulgaria from Turkey has seen more than 48,000 irregular border crossings between January and May 2015.

Kos, a small holiday island whose economy depends on tourism, is facing a refugee crisis right at the beginning of visitor season. Destitute people are sleeping rough or staying with hundreds of others in a small abandoned hotel lacking basic amenities, such as water and electricity.

While the authorities refuse to take responsibility, the migrants and refugees who want nothing more than to leave the island find themselves stuck in this desperate situation, often for weeks, waiting for the necessary legal papers to continue their journey to mainland Greece.

VICE News finds that the urgent issue is how Kos — completely unprepared to receive and process thousands of mainly Syrian and Afghan refugees that have arrived on its shores — fails to meet even the minimum EU standards for refugee reception.
