Most definitely. Hilda Clark tested all the frequencies of pathogen's decades ago and figured out which frequency eliminated them. Back-story

A juvenile great white beached itself while trying to catch seagulls off Chatham, Massachusetts. Thanks to the harbor master and beach-goers, this shark was saved.

CATHAM, MA -

We've all seen Jaws. That was one bad shark. Apparently the lineage of that one particular shark was also extremely intelligent because three movies later, one of the descendents followed Chief Brody's wife to the Caribbean to seek revenge. But let's pretend Jaws: The Revenge never happened. Horrible movie.

The Jaws movies have certainly made anyone who has ever seen them a little timid to enter a body of water. People tell me there are no Great White sharks in Lake Coeur d'Alene, but I'd be lying if at 32-years-old I said it still doesn't cross my mind. But recent attacks aside, statistically, you're more likely to die from the flu than killed by a shark. At least according to the people at National Geographic who obviously have never seen Jaws. According to the folks over at the big yellow rectangle, you have a 1 in 218 chance in your lifetime to be killed by a fall, compared to a 1 in 3.7 million of being killed by a shark.

The publication says the US averages just 19 shark attacks each year and one shark-attack fatality every two years. Meanwhile, in the coastal U.S. states alone, lightning strikes and kills more than 37 people each year.

The point is, despite recent attacks and violent portrayals in movies, you're relatively safe in the water. But still, if you came upon a beached Great White shark, who is clearly agitated at the predicament he's put himself in, you're going to be a little cautious. But you can't just let the shark die, right? Exactly. You can't, as I pretend you answered my rhetorical question in a way that suits the needs of this article.

So when some beachgoers came across a stranded Great White shark on Cape Cod, they knew they had an obligation to keep the magnificent beast alive until rescuers could arrive. The key here is to just "keep it alive." It might seem like a good idea to grab it by its tail and swing it back to sea like you're "The Hulk" or Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, but it is important to note that a beached and understandably embarrassed shark will not appreciate this.

So beachgoers grabbed some buckets of water and continued to splash the 7-foot juvenile shark until help arrived. It might appear like it's adding insult to injury, but just like the water-filled revival of a drunken Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride, it was necessary for the betterment of all.

Eventually, officials who were trained in the technical rescues of sharks (or at least seemed like they were) showed up and very carefully, and presumably paying many compliments to the shark so as not to agitate him more ("You're a very handsome shark. You're like the George Clooney of sharks. You should be in the picture shows! This could've happened to anybody. Don't worry, we'll get you out!"), rescuers tied a line around the shark's rear fin and slowly towed him back out to sea.

Officials say the shark was probably trying to catch seagulls on the sandbar when he missed his ride on the tide. Time flies when you're trying to eat seagulls, am I right? Same thing happened to me in San Diego once when I missed the ferry from Coronado back to the city because I was chasing "seagulls" at a local pub.

But this story has a much happier ending than my San Diego adventure. The shark was tagged so they can keep track of him and make sure they don't end up regretting their good deed should the shark ever grow up into a big boy shark and stalk the widow of a former Police Chief who killed its mother. He slowly swam back out to sea, presumably to a crowd of his friends, waiting to make fun of him for getting beached in the first place.

"In 1967 Neil Aspinall was asked to put together a video for the beatles 3rd movie which was in early devolpment. The concept was going to be a collection of promotional videos all bunched together from the albums Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt Pepper. The Beatles dismissed the idea and decided to go with pauls idea of the Magical Mystery Tour. Only 4 videos are known to exist which where Eleneor Rigby&A Day In The Life (as seen in the anthology) along the lost videos for Within You And Without You ( which was supposed to be a montage of an office building) and Tommorow Never Knows. However I was able to find the Tomorrow Never Knows Video through a lot of researching. The clip is simply put together from clips of John (14 hour technicolour dream), Paul (His 1966 trip with mal Evans), and George (arriving in India with Pattie) ...



"Tomorrow Never Knows" is the final track of the Beatles' 1966 studio album Revolver but the first to be recorded. Credited as a Lennon–McCartney song, it was written primarily by John Lennon.

The song has a vocal put through a Leslie speaker cabinet (which was normally used as a loudspeaker for a Hammond organ) and uses automatic double tracking (ADT) to double the vocal image. Tape loops prepared by the Beatles were mixed in and out of the Indian-inspired modal backing underpinned by Ringo Starr's constant but non-standard drum pattern "(looped)". The song is also one of the first uses of a flanging effect on any instrument.

It is often considered one of the greatest songs of all time, with Pitchfork Media placing it at number 19 on its list of "The 200 Greatest Songs of the 1960s", and it being featured in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All-Time.

Removed from their forest dwellings by government authorities in order to establish the Mgahinga and Bwindi Impenetrable National Parks in Uganda, the Batwa pygmies now live in slums around Kisoro, a town which sees tourists stream through each year to visit the parks, which were created to protect the country's endangered mountain gorillas.

While conservation tourism booms, however, most Batwa are considered ultra poor, have extremely low life expectancy, and have been struggling to have their rights recognized for three decades.

Over recent years, a Batwa organization called UOBDU has sought legal recourse, arguing that the land for the national parks was unlawfully seized from the indigenous people. This is yet to be resolved.

On the quest for cottage cheese trivia this week for my story for Morning Edition, I asked our research department for help. Researcher Barclay Walsh sent me a photo that stopped me in my tracks.

Take a look. Notice the official White House emblem on the plate. The silver platter. The sculpted ball of cottage cheese encircled by slices of pineapple, perhaps canned. The glass of milk.

This is the lunch that President Richard Nixon ate on August 8, 1974, just before going on national television to announce that he was resigning. White House photographer Robert Knudson captured it on film. The next day, Nixon boarded a plane for California.

By the standards of official White House photography, this image is spare and melancholy, almost shockingly so. Typical White House photography "is so people-focused," says Jon Fletcher, an archivist at that National Archives who is responsible for the Nixon Administration photographs.

Fletcher could not remember offhand any other photo in the collection that is devoted to food itself. After our conversation, he did a search and came up with a few images from Nixon's trip to China that featured tables filled with food that had been prepared for the visiting American president.

Those images, though, show occasions of promise and possibility. The pre-resignation meal is the opposite. Ryan Kellman, one of our photographers here at NPR, described it as "so sad, austere, stately, funny."

It's a humble meal at the seat of power, just as that power is slipping away. And the person who will eat this food is not in the picture. Soon, he will be gone from this place.

Drug Lord: The Legend of Shorty

In 2012, when filmmakers Guillermo Galdos and Angus Macqueen set out to find and interview Joaquín Guzmán Loera, the drug kingpin known as “El Chapo” (Shorty) had been on the run from U.S. and Mexican authorities for more than a decade.

It would be another two years until Guzman was recaptured, and another three until his second escape from prison earlier this month. But at the time, Galdos and Macqueen believed Guzmán — whose Sinaloa cartel is Mexico’s largest trafficker of cocaine, heroin and marijuana — was essentially hiding in plain sight.

In their quest to track down the notorious fugitive, Galdos and Macqueen immersed themselves in Guzmán’s bloody and brutal empire — speaking with key U.S. and Mexican officials tasked with finding Guzmán, landing a rare interview with his mother, and coming face to face with senior members of his Sinaloa cartel.

At one point in their search, they found themselves locked up in a garage with one of the cartel’s drug traffickers — and lots and lots of methamphetamine.

In this excerpt from Galdos and Macqueen’s documentary Drug Lord: The Legend of Shorty, filmed less than a mile from the California border, a drug smuggler known as “El Flaco” shows Galdos and Macqueen how he operates.

“We seal it to stop the smell,” says “El Flaco” as he prepares a pound of meth he says is worth $5,500 for transportation across the border and into the U.S.

“This car’s been lucky,” he says, showing Galdos and Macqueen the lead plate installed in his truck that keeps drugs from being detected by X-rays at border crossings. “Had it for six years. Done lots of crossings … Around 300 kilos per year make it to the other side.”

In February 2015, three teenage schoolgirls left the comfort of their homes in East London and traveled to Syria to join the self-styled Islamic State (IS). Around 60 women and girls are thought to have made the same journey from Britain.

The story of their disappearance dominated the UK press for weeks and the blame game inevitably began to hunt out whose fault it was. When the families of Amira Abase, Shamima Begum, and Kadiza Sultana found out that the police had been interviewing the trio about another girl from their school who had already joined IS, the case was picked up for investigation by the government. But soon certain sections of the press would turn on the families themselves.

VICE News gained intimate access to the father of one girl, Amira, and joined him as he dealt with the press and parliament to find out what it's like for those left behind by the tragic choices of their loved ones.

"This is a good lesson for all of us, no matter what stage of life you’re in. You’ll see what I mean.

A young woman went to her grandmother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her – her husband had cheated on her and she was devastated. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as soon as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her grandmother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her granddaughter, she asked, ‘Tell me what you see.’

‘Carrots, eggs, and coffee,’ she replied.

Her grandmother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The grandmother then asked the granddaughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg.

Finally, the grandmother asked the granddaughter to sip the coffee. The granddaughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The granddaughter then asked, ‘What does it mean, grandmother?’

Her grandmother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

“Which are you?” she asked her granddaughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity? Do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain.. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level?

How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.

The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can’t go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you’re the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

Is Burning Man Being Taken Over By Police ?


Burning Man may be taken over by police this year as Nevada Sheriff Jerry Allen promised a crackdown on nonviolent “crime” at the music and arts festival next week. Allen is partnering with festival organizers to patrol the event and said that officers are determined to write as many tickets and make as many arrests as they possibly can.
