Description: based on the book of the same-name by brasilian medium Francisco Cândido Xavier.First English edition of book published in 1944. Film about the partly negative doctor, who suddenly die, and through the medium he tells how his passage to the other side happend, Which incl. the time at the thought-purifying level, called purgatory level or umbral because his life had been part of selfish. But he pray for help, and the astral helpers from "our-home" arrives and gets him to the next level.

I watched the movie recently. It was okay, but not spectacular. I still prefer "What Dreams May Come" which was fiction. But this movie The Astral City/Nosso Lar is based on a channeled book by medium Chico Javier, which I read about a third of before watching the movie. My all time favorite book giving an account of the spirit world, which I'd like to see a movie made of, is "Life In The World Unseen" channeled by Anthony Borgia purportedly from the "deceased" individual (a friend of Borgias when he was still alive) Monsignor Robert Hugh Benson. It's considered a Spiritualist classic.

I read the book, I hope the movie is as good as the book. Doesn't he go back to help this generation during transition, in the WW2 era of Hitler? That would put him at a very old age with wisdom, if he remembers his mission and didn't join/get tempted to the dark side.

Dannion Brinkley spoke of a crystal city in his experience.
If you put his name or NDE on U tube quite a few can be found.
I believe NDE is true.
