I do not think that was an earthquake..... considering we are very nicely situated in the middle of a tetconic plate.
I'm moreso thinking it has something to do with the military base that's also in Alice Springs.

I have seen no reports of that here in Australia at all.. It is a pretty damn significant earthquake especially at a depth of 1 km..

Absolutely nothing in the news media here in my part of Australia. Maybe Tiga is right! A quake that size is usually reported as it is so rare to have them here.
It is possible that very few, if any, people would be hurt as there are few settlements at all in that area, hence the Base and earlier, weapons' testing. The latter is still an area of contention for some people who WERE in the area, and, quite reasonably I think, believe they are due some compensation.
I have just read the link in post number 1 and am quite surprised to see that this is the 2nd earthquake of this magnitude in 12 months. Previously the earthquakes were 20+ years apart. That's a huge difference. I can only ask "why?" The explanation is challenging!

A report has come out now..
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-06-10/quake-strikes-territory-outback/4743686?section=justin
The Northern Territory's southern region was rocked by a magnitude 5.7 earthquake overnight.
The shaking has caught the interest of seismologists, because the area had a similar quake a year ago, but, before that, it had gone decades without one being recorded.
Seismologist Spiro Spiliopoulos from Geoscience Australia said the quake hit just before midnight, about 315 kilometres south-west of Alice Springs.
He said the epicentre was only 40 kilometres from the Aboriginal community of Ernabella, which suffered an earthquake of a similar size in March last year.

When my home was shaking around a couple of months ago, I signed onto Avalon, which gets automatic feeds fromn the USGS (Paul or Ilie correct me if I'm wrong), sure enough the quake was reported within 30 minutes !!
So ......... why is there nothing here about this ??

We switched to the EMSC feed a couple months ago, in order to get a feed that has a magnitude 6.0 threshold, instead of 5.0.
So with our new feed, we would not have the automatic post of this 5.6 quake.

Yes, its the depth that's significant.
Does anyone have any 'info' about the base, even if its 3rd hand rumours and sketchy sources?
Not all mil bases are cabal owned, although I suspect this one is. Plenty of factions out there.

Wait, is that Pine Gap? That was a pretty famous place.

Plenty of links here, from fairly mainstream to out there. Can't vouch for any of them, but I like BPleyades as a source.
