YOU can help STOP Syn Bio Pollution

http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/kickstopper-stopping-syn-bio-pollution/

Kickstarter is funding a project to release over 600,000 risky bioengineered seeds made by synthetic biology. We aim to stop that project from releasing seeds.

There’s a new biotech threat coming from Silicon Valley: a private biotech company has hijacked that other crowd funding platform Kickstarter.com in a plan to release hundreds of thousands of glowing synthetic organisms made with an extreme genetic engineering technology called Synthetic Biology.

Having racked up over $400,000 on their crowdfunding drive the perpetrators of this proposed genetic pollution intend to pull off the first ever intentional release of synthetic biology-derived organism without any oversight, monitoring or regulation. This would set a terrible and dangerous precedent.

To kick back we are doing a little crowdfunding jujitsu. ETC Group has launched the Kickstopper campaign. To start we have launched a petition and now need to raise the money for a long term campaign to stop the biohackers in their tracks. And as part of it we are going to make a comic book - and a bit of history too.

Join us in saving the word from Synthetic biology pollution. Become a backer of the Kickstopper campaign.

Excellent Article Here:
These science nerds are going to release hundreds of thousands of these engineered plants into the wild, with zero environmental impact studies done.

Worse Than GMO?: Urgent Action Needed!

http://ascendingstarseed.wordpress.com/2013/06/10/worse-than-gmo-urgent-action-needed/

This is an urgent message with little time left so please take action ASAP. If you do not have time to read this, and you are against bioengineering and GMO, please scroll down to the bottom to take action here and here.

I just received word through the ETC Group, who helped us with the Stop GMO in Mexico petition, that some biohackers in the bay area of California are planning to send out hundreds of thousands genetically engineered weed seeds to people all over the United States. But these are not regular GMO seeds; they are produced through “synthetic biology” technology, which has been called “GMO on steroids.” It is more dangerous than GMO and is so new it is not even regulated.

These seeds, however, are not even bioengineered in the way you might think. The sequence is laid out on a computer and then printed on a DNA synthesizer, and this sequence is then spliced into a seed. The DNA sequences are even more novel and artificial than that found in GMO products to date.

This would be the first-ever release of an organism produced through synthetic biology anywhere in the world, and it won’t be just one organism but hundreds of thousands—sent through the mail and dispersed across the USA. There is a strong international consensus that synthetic organisms are too poorly understood and their environmental impacts are too uncertain to be released into the environment, deliberately or otherwise. Incredibly, the biohackers are funding this maniacal venture through Kickstarter.com

For the last month, the crowdfunding website Kickstarter has hosted a project by these 3 biohackers from California’s Bay Area who are associated with the private synthetic biology company, Genome Compiler Corporation. They asked the public for money to carry out a project to bioengineer a common weed to glow in the dark. What is most alarming is that they also promised to send 100 seeds of their bioengineered weed to anyone who backed the project with $40. To date, they have more than 6,000 backers who have given more than $40 – that’s 600,000 synthetically engineered seeds! – and have raised more than $400,000.

Do you want a bunch of irresponsible profit-hungry science nerds creating GMO plants that glow all night and could potentially destroy the local ecosystem?
If this sounds more like a horror movie than "cool science" to you, contact your elected representatives and complain about this.
And/Or spread the information.
And/Or contribute to the "Kickstopper" campaign.

So where are the environmental watchdogs, and government agencies spouting one of the over 60 million statutes and codes that disallow such a thing??? huhh!!!??? Does this story even add up? Is this just another 'distraction'?

Is this group honestly trying to say with all their sophistication, they are completely unaware of any mega huge legal liability issues that could follow,
maybe they don't read the latest internet news how the tables are turning, even on Monsanto, as lawyers must have finally come forth and pulled the plug (fatal flaw) in the obviously ridiculous Monsanto position of suing farmers whose fields end up getting contaminated from their irresponsible experiments.

I see the lights on.... but is anybody home?

I signed the petition... (I'm a member of Avaaz and quite a few other petition signing organizations. Great way to get the collective voice heard, and that is the only voice the political-military-industrial complex seems to listen to... lately.)

But yeah, Northstar, it hardly seems real this could be happening. Terrifying.

Keep in mind ... what they can do with plants, they can do with animals ... and humans.

What they can do for an entire plant species they can do for all humans, or all type A blood, blue eyed, brown haired humans, or just one specific human ... if they have that DNA on their computers. It's all just a small matter of applying enough CPU (computer) cycles.

Then read spiritguide's post from yesterday: The SSG taps phones, what about our DNA! (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?59925-The-SSG-taps-phones-what-about-our-DNA-).

I agree completely but one of the most troubling things about this is that they have already raised half a million dollars.
It boggles the mind.
