Straight to the facts, a complete education in one page...
And coming from a Doctor (as hard to believe as that sounds)
gives me hope, when I read an article like this...
I really wonder what it must be like to be living in the US these days (boiling pot) trying to imagine how can so many people get sucked into these scams, let alone allow their kids to be subjected to it... and I think it always leads to this fear of the police arresting them, what else would make so many people so suggestive to so much nonsense?
Is cholesterol bad? I’ve never heard anyone ask me this question…
http://thepeopleschemist.com/does-the-family-really-need-lipitor-and-aspirin/
Imagine a Dr suggesting you could look after all your health needs for $10 a month!
some excerpts:
"How Much Money?
Pfizer’s blockbuster drug Lipitor became the first prescription drug to make more than $10 billion in annual sales. To date, Forbes Magazine tells us that statins are earning drug pushers $26 billion in annual sales – the equivalent of your lifetime income, plus 1500 others, every year! Think this can buy medical journals, ads and lobbying to push fear along with the cholesterol-lowering agenda?"
"4. Most notably, cholesterol is an essential part of the myelin sheath.132 The myelin sheath, similar to the coating on copper wire, ensures that the brain functions properly by aiding the passage of electrical impulses. Without the myelin sheath, it is difficult to focus and we can lose memory. This is why those on cholesterol lowering drugs notoriously lose memory. Few users recognize this side effect because they forgot how important having a memory was."

Dr. Mercola uses less colorful language, but definitely gets the same message across very clearly.

Chris Kresser covers a lot about cholesterol, as well, especially people's misguided ideas about causes. Chris Kresser Integrative Medicine (http://chriskresser.com/)
I've lost all respect for Mercola. I don't think he'll say much of anything unless he can sell me something for it.

I beg to differ.
Mercola goes out of his way to let the public know the truth about Big Pharma, vaccines and many other issues which make him a big target for TPTB.
Especially since he has a very high profile.
His products are excellent, though somewhat pricey, and I expect he has a high overhead with the amount of research and networking he does with experts such as Barbara Lowe of NVIC
( https://nvicadvocacy.org/members/Home.aspx )
and others, and that isn't a bad reason for the prices being high.
His interviews with practitioners of alternative medicine are excellent, current and very cutting edge.
Such as: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/01/24/new-evidence-refutes-fraud-findings-in-dr-wakefield-case.aspx

and many more.
It doesn't bother me if Dr. Mercola profits from higher income people who can afford his products, while folks like me do a little more research and buy from the likes of Vitacost, etc.
It's worth it to me if it enables him to continue doing the fine work he is doing.
He deserves to be able to have a good staff working for him, and the protection of good legal protection if he needs it.
I think he's quite heroic.

I looked into this subject a few months ago for someone who is taking statin drugs and experiencing leg muscle weakness. I found that inflammation is the real problem, not cholesterol. But there's a huge financial incentive to continue selling cholesterol-lowering statin drugs.
In July [2004], the National Institute of Health’s National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) urged millions more Americans to consider taking statin drugs to reduce their risk of heart disease. But after reviewing the five studies behind the new recommendations, more than three dozen physicians, epidemiologists, and other scientists, together with the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) ... raised serious questions about whether the guidelines are supported by the scientific evidence. The researchers are urging the National Institute of Health (NIH) to seek an independent panel to re-review the studies.
...
Eight of the nine authors of the July recommendations have financial ties to statin manufacturers, including Pfizer, Merck, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and AstraZeneca—a fact that was not disclosed when the recommendations were first published in the journal Circulation. Merrill Goozner, director of the Integrity in Science project at CSPI, says that those conflicts of interest alone are enough to warrant skepticism of the NCEP findings.
“When researchers have financial relationships with drug companies, that raises red flags. When those relationships are concealed, alarm bells start going off,” said Goozner. “Drug companies want to sell more drugs and they fund studies to further that goal. That’s why it is critical that scientists who review industry-funded studies and write clinical practice guidelines on behalf of the government be completely free of conflicts of interest.” [From "CSPI, Doctors Want Independent Review of Research on Statins", September 23, 2004.]
