View Full Version : Petition for Edward Snowden
I believe that Edward Snowden has provided us with a model of civil disobedience for this age that rivals none. I have always held closely a handful of people throughout history that I deeply admire. I have now added Mr. Snowden to that list. I will not be redundant in singing his praises here as information about him is readily available.
I decided to try to do something to stand up for this man. While researching this I found that there is a petition initiated for him. It is on "We the people" website. The petition is requesting that the US government 'Pardon" Mr. Snowden. I was kind of blown away that there were 85,191 signatures on the petition. I think it is so important to at least stand up and voice your opinion if you have one on this matter.
If you are interested in signing this petition I have provcided the link

In order to send a petition to Washington, all signatures must be of Registered voters, or they will throw out the entire petition. Yep! Been there done that. And they won't even tell you which of the signers weren't registered. Same goes for these computer petitions. If they ain't registered voters, (even one name) Washington, just throws them out.
Yes, we got our petition passed, and it was on the next ballot. AND, it passed on the ballot. We did it!!! YEAH!!!
But... that was 35 years ago.
Thank you, Wind. I just went to the website and it now has over 1,183,000 signatures....maybe there is hope for us..................................
sirdipswitch, The website says that it will be evaluated if there are 100,000 signatures. .even if this is not true I have no doubt the federal government will be very aware of these petitions...I want them to see that the peons are waking up For me the bigger issue is standing up for what is right and true...even in miniscule ways.....

The WH isn't going to pardon Snowden because they're cracking down on ALL whistleblowers. Just ask Bradley Manning....

Actually, I think that 85,000 signatures is not that much considering how popular this cause is. It will reach 100,000 and they do not check all 100 K are registered voters, so there should be a response, although I doubt a satisfactory one.

The whitehouse.gov petitions require 100,000 signatures to receive attention/reply. You do not need to be a US registered voter and you do not even need to live in the US or be a citizen.
You do need to open an account to sign.
Here is the run down of the terms to partisipation

Thanks to all, I stand corrected. ccc. Like I said that was 35 years ago, and it was for a Real Estate petition, which probly accounted for the need to be registered.
And you're all right insofar as putting enough signatures in their face, to make them pay attention. chuckle chuckle.
Sounds like a good plan to me. Yep!!
