I watched this last night and it was quite a lively debate and Russell did very well.
Bear in mind this is the BBC flagship political Q&A programme and many have
been made to look stupid or maverick on it in the past.

Russell, Russell, Russell the maverick voice of the marginalised and the waking citizenry of the not so United Kingdom and beyond.

Long may your wit and sharp gaze penetrate the ploys of the establishment and be a focus in the otherwise vapid vehicle of the popular media.

This is unusual, someone has posted the full episode for those who can
handle some mainstream BS as well ...LOL...Boris is just 'Bumbling Boris'
and the audience boo the mail journalist on her views on Iran....

Actually just watched it again and its worth listening to Russells answers
in the contexts of the programme..

The extreme confidence, and lack of malice.
When I think of the majority of people speaking out against the crimes against humanity
in the high financial arena, and the obvious role of politicians in protecting those people, I see
rage and malice.
If a healthy parent has a child who is going down the wrong path, they calm state the facts and deliver sane penalties.
Calm explanations of why these actions are wrong, and must stop now .
Not rage and personal emotional revenge.
The other half of it is the clear understanding of how we got here, and some real solutions that have been the only ones that work in the few countries that have actually implemented them.

I have never been more impressed with a comidian then ever. He is dialed into the true issues and gets it. SHarp and funny and I think he is the most on target public figure with his statments that I have ever heard! WOW is all I have to say. He gets it. WIsh he came to New England on his tour of USA. He is so right about addiction and bankers.

I must admit I never really thought much of Mr. Brand until now. He is actually a very intelligent individual that made a lot of very good and very plausible solutions. If only politicians and such would actually take his ideas and ideas like his into consideration I think the world would be a much better place. Such a shame that will never happen....

Yes, good old Russell, he has some enlightened ideas, and you can't fault his practical logic-however Drug addiction, or Drug taking is something that humanity has indulged in since
people first realized that certain plants when smoked, eaten or otherwise ingested brought about a change in the way they felt, thousands upon thousands of years...just because the political
and financial powers decree certain ones are 'Evil' and others can be openly traded does not change the reality of them being taken by people...Alcohol is among the worst of Drugs
Prohibition has NEVER worked as a control mechanism, serving only to create a criminal black market. Until society is honest about Drugs, and people allowed to exercise their natural freedoms
it will always be a 'Problem'. I do not think abstinence treatments are realistic-maintenance treatments, and direct supply are seen to work in those countries that have this available-Portugal, Holland, Switzerland
and a few others-these countriesw have all reported a reduction in both the taking of narcotics, and the disappearance of drug-related crime...it is a huge topic.

Thanks for posting - just got around to listening to this. So good to hear someone speaking in every day language and addressing problems honestly. Back in April I read an article in the Guardian by Russell Brand on the death of Margaret Thatcher which really impressed me. I know it is off topic but I will post the link here for anyone interested because it does show his compassion and intelligence http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2013/apr/09/russell-brand-margaret-thatcher. I also thought it very funny to watch Boris Johnson nodding away in agreement to what he was saying about the bankers when back in 2010 he was all in favour of them. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/boris-johnson-ditch-supertax-to-stop-9000-bankers-leaving-city-6743874.html
