View Full Version : Down The Rabbit Hole, Or Up The Rabbit Hole?

So I've been thinking...We refer quite regularly here to diving DOWN the rabbit hole, but is that really an accurate description? What if we were already deep deep down that old rabbit hole, and each at their own pace is now making their way up and OUT of it?

With no clear basis as to knowing the original and true nature of ourselves and our reality, we very well could have been lulled into this without even hardly realizing it, thus thinking the bottom of the rabbit hole is "normal". (Normalcy bias) In that case, the journey back to true reality would be the bewildering event often associated with the term.

Perhaps that sounds like splitting hairs, but as in survival they say one's state of mind is their most valuable tool, and the way we perceive the (seemingly) bizarre may be much the same.

Are we entering bizarro world, or are we leaving it?

Those awakening to individual consciousness are definitely coming up out of the dark.
I think Frank Herbert called this "the mind of first awakening", the result of the shock of "birth-awareness".

We are always becoming either more or less aware as human beings.
Some people have tried very hard to keep us stupid, but people still rise.

Nice thread!

Too timely Fred, you should see what I just posted on your Farm thread, still on the same wave length after all.

The silicon chip inside her head
Gets switched to overload
And nobodys gonna go to school today
Shes gonna make them stay at home
And daddy doesnt understand it
He always said she was good as gold
And he can see no reasons
'Cos there are no reasons
What reason do you need to be show-ow-ow-ow-own?

pish posh--this is crazy talk. It is going down the rabbit hole, as all the reality is hidden from us...call it through the looking glass, over (or under) the rainbow, the dark side of the moon...it;s all reality--the stuff the phrase refers to is what's just outside of normal perception.

could be we cant tell up from down.

Like diving in very deep water where there is zero natural light. Very easy to become disoriented, and not know if your swimming up or down. But there's one sure way to get it together and find the surface. Follow your air bubbles.

That's where one's state of mind comes into play huh?

To what? The "surface"? What then?

I personally don't like saying down or up the Rabbit Hole, it reinforces negative affirmations of being lost!
If we are in a Rabbit Hole what we are doing is not moving down or up, we are excavating, expanding it. We need to expand the unknown to burst it, punch holes through back to the light...
If we are moving correctly we are not in a hole we are on a well sign-posted-path!

Down the rabbit hole is where Alice went to meet the queen of hearts, lol. Rabbit warrens are dug by other animals and they use them. If ever confused about up or down, just drop a copper penny and follow it. The direction it goes is down and if you believe other than that, you cannot see. IMHO

Peace!

Could be just me thinking this, since we Germans are the undefeated world champions at splitting hairs and all that, but I think it's important to listen to these phrases and dissect them on the linguistical operating table as they can be quite powerful and form our opinions/ affect us deeper than we'd like to believe. It's sometimes quite beneficial to take a step back and look at everything you take for granted again in a different light and contemplate its true and original meanings, especially in light of who they were coined by (does it come from 'Alice in Wonderland' or was it mentioned before that? Does anyone know?).

Or as German playwright and general allround genius Georg Christoph Lichtenberg once said: „Especially those matters which everyone regards as agreed upon are most deserving of an investigation.“ (My own translation, sorry, couldn't find a better one online). In other words, those things we never think or dare to question, are the things we really should be questioning.

BTW, Lichtenberg has a whole range of funny quotes online, if you guys would like to google him. One of my other favourites of his is sth like this:"Books are like mirrors. When an ape looks into one, it won't be a prophet that looks back at him." ;)

A copper penny dropped while in free-fall aperies to stay just where it is.

Scary how recently I pondered this, mostly because of so many conicidences happening lately.
I believe I was in limbo type world, followed the rabbit into the hole.
I will learn how I deceived myself as I go deeper, forgive those I blame for my self deception as I go, (well they kinda helped).
Then once I can forgive myself and others completely, I will see the last secret of forgetting oneself, then remember, I came down another hole to get here first to learn to forget myself, then its back up that hole into a beautiful new world.
DAMMIT!
I see another rabbit!

This reminds me of looking into a gazing ball. If I do it long enough everything goes inside out and I'm over there. Or Like THX 1138 - at the end when he (Robert Duvall) climbs up and surfaces. Thanks Fred.

to quote the matrix, there is no spoon... look at the control system, the ptb had us thinking knowledge and learning is going down to another reality ... when all along it was just our minds expanding ... down the rabbit hole, didn't that come from alice in wonderland ??? great thread Fred ...

Fred, your question brings two things to mind right off:

The Allegory of the Cave, in Plato's Republic, and George Lucas' 1971 film THX 1138

It seems to me these two stories illustrate your question pretty well. They were the matrix stories before The Matrix.
