an extinct culture discovered ??? No way , they didn't go extinct ... but yes they did... their climate changed , they couldn't grow food and they became cannibals ... We are on the same road leading to their end ... the seventh and final extinction... history repeats if we refuse to learn from it ...

Fascinating! I have a thing for ruins in jungles! You wonder what they will find there. There have been some incredible finds in the past. You only need to look as far as the Lid of Palenque, the calendar stones, the jade masks or any of a number of exquisite Mayan artefacts to gain some appreciation for the possibile discoveries at Chactun. From the sounds of it, with the steles reused for deification, there would have been previous exploration by native peoples. However, with the combination of Mayan ingenuity and modern technology, there may be many finds as yet undiscovered.
