This is sad, I have watched Time team from Day one, and was watching
an episode last week when Mick was telling off Tony Robinson for
something or other ...LOl...
Although mainstream its still interesting as a yardstick to disagree with..LOL..

Mick Aston, formerly of television's Time Team, answers questions submitted by
Oxbow Books and David Brown Book Company customers. Candid, witty and
refreshingly honest, Mick offers his personal thoughts on the current state of
archaeological research in Britain, the relationship between archaeologists and
metal detectorists and much more. He provides fascinating insights into his
research project in Shapwick, Somerset and offers advice for others hoping to
embark on similar projects in the future.
A highly readable account of the Shapwick project is available in Mick's latest
publication with Chris Gerrard, Interpreting the English Village.

I feel really sad to read this news-- though I would have thought him older than 66. As well as the atrocious jumpers, he used to have a truly dreadful sort of long pirate hat in similar awful colours in the early days of the show! He was always a character, but a knowledgeable one I think, and definitely one of my favourites on one of my favourite programmes.
In my opinion they really mucked the programme up at the end, with the attempts to get rid of the 'old' architects and introduce the alluring young (and very annoying) post-grads. Such a shame to see the end of such a good programme fizzle out like it did.
I'll have a glass of good red in Mick's honour tonight! He kept his integrity until the end.
