View Full Version : Cut from the Same Cloth: How Spies and Investigative Journalists Do the Same Job, Only Different

There was a great article in a magazine I read recently, maybe it was Psychology Today. It was about the son of a CIA spy who eventually had to face the truth of who and what his father was, and dealt with that burden by becoming an investigative journalist.

When the USA conducted studies, it was determined that the job that most closely resembles that of a CIA/FBI spy was in fact investigative journalism. The only notable difference in the approach and ultimate end result between these two career paths was the fate of the information gained: whereas the journalist chooses to reveal what he knows from the standpoint of bettering the world, the spy ensures that his secrets serve only the government and his personal self-interests.

Now, in light of what is going on with this poor Snowden chap, I want to tell you from the bottom of my heart, this sort of thing was bound to happen sooner or later and Snowden is simply one of the first and most significant to break the chains and survive the process.

Please don't listen to Cheney or Trump, people who would sacrifice this lamb on the altars of their own agendas. They advocate the murder of the one who would tell the truth. Blood paves the road to their prosperity. But their hands remain clean, because of the existence of the slaves we call "spies".

A most pitiable condition in a country where all men (and women) have unalienable rights.

P.S. my grandfather was a nuclear missile maintenance supervisor and my cousin was a spy.

So you can see how a journalist coming from this kind of family could run into tremendous pressure from both within and without the family.

for telling the truth we are branded traitors.
