Found this last night, as I kept touching it thinking it was a sunburn and it hurt alot, then I looked. I remember picking off a tiny lil bear tick about a week ago, so I'm assuming its a lymes related infection. I'll be going to the dr tomorow just wondering if anyone has an experience with this.

Not sure if this is the right spot if not pls move thanks.

The Ozarks, where I live, is infested with ticks. Your doctor will no doubt recommend a round of antibiotics, which should kill the disease.
If you detect the bite early enough, there are natural remedies like poultices of plantain leaves, activated charcoal, and various natural
But if it's been a week, it may be antibiotics are the best way to go.
Here's an excerpt from an article about natural remedies for Lyme's Disease at:
http://www.naturalnews.com/036133_Lyme_disease_ticks_prevention.html
Good luck!

If you you've been bitten by a tick, start taking colloidal silver immediately. Additionally, other natural antibiotics such as Pau d'arco tea, garlic and Echinacea extract may prevent the onset of infection.

The homeopathic remedy Ledum treats puncture wounds from venomous insect bites. It should be taken right away after being bitten together with colloidal silver.

If you've developed flu-like symptoms in the early stages of lyme disease, the homeopathic remedy Gelsemium should provide relief. It relieves fever, headache, body aches and pain, stiff neck, muscle pains, weakness, and a sensation of heaviness.

Yeah its certainly been a week or a lil longer. I do alot of foraging and mushroom hunting so naturally I'm out in the woods quite often. The wetness this season has made for a banner year for ticks and mushrooms alike, Ive been flicking them off me by the dozens, rarely do they get the pleasure of sucking my blood.

Perhaps MMS1 can fix it, or maybe not, cant hurt to give it a try, it will bring down any pre existing viral load in the process as well.

Get well soon.

The antibiotic shouldn't cause you trouble, it's a lot better than getting the disease.

I knew a young woman in church about 12 years back who'd suffered undiagnosed Lyme disease and it really messed her up all over.
She kind of reminded me of Stephen Hawking if he could walk.

It's worth going straight to the doctor or even the hospital.

Care to elaborate on this "Miracle Mineral", naturally I'm skeptical.
Id rather just continue to dose heavy amounts of Reishi mushroom extract till I get into the dr tomorow.

I get them all the time when I'm walking in the woods, chiggers too.
As soon as I get home, I strip down and put any clothes without metal in the microwave and nuke them.
Then I use a long handled shower brush and brush my skin all over, being sure to get the hard to see areas, like on the middle of my back.
I brush my hair vigorously over the tub.
Then I shower.
Sometimes they get a ride into my home on my clothing, and find me later.
I've become very sensitive to the sensation of tiny feet crawling around on my body!!

I'll let Andreas Kalcker do the talking here, but my personal experiences are good, cleared me from herpes( that sexy lovegift that keeps on giving)in a week, and since then from every cold or oncoming flu in a day or less, the second I get stings in my brain from a beginning infection or swollen lymph nodes in my neck< I take MMS and the issue is solved before it arises in a bad way.

You say you are skeptical and that's very good, so you probably have no MMS on hand yet, take the reishi if that works for you and visit your doctor asap.

Two things I know about Lyme's:

1) You only get it from deer ticks, which are microscopically small. And most of the people I know who got Lyme's are deer hunters.

2) The inflamed area will continue to radiate outwards if it is lymes.

I tend to think you did get an insect bite of some other kind. Some people I know have treated it successfully with homeopathy and acupuncture.

It was definitely a tick, very small guy too I'm surprised I noticed him, deer tick most likely indeed. I deeply appreciate all concern and advise, I'll let you know how the dr goes tomorrow. I have some slightly old amoxycilin that I may take until then, or I'll just continue on some heavy reishi mushroom treatment.

Concerning the advice of getting antibiotics, understandable as it is but it's no guarantee to get away with it.
A friend of mine got bitten by a tick, with a similar red mark appearing shortly after. He went to the doctors and got the antibiotics shot.

Nothing really happened afterwards, the incident was long forgotten. Years later after steadily increasing health problems, joints, lungs, heart and all kind of misdiagnoses, someone suggested to check for lymes. And bingo! that it was - and well established by then.

Because you're still in the early stages, some of the here suggested remedies might help to avoid it from fully developing.

I think I would cover all the bases, continue with the Reishi, take colloidal silver, MMS (it can't hurt if you follow the protocol, and it's inexpensive).
I took a class from a midwife who was also a herbalist, who lived in the Bayou country and treated lots of people with snakebites, gangrene and other severe conditions.
She swore by Activated Charcoal for drawing out toxins, both topically as a poultice and internally for cleansing.
It's very inexpensive and easy to find.
I always keep it in hand and use it on spider and tick bites.

Straight-up pulling a blood-sucking out of the is something to give thought to. I have heard that there is a proper way to remove a blood-sucking tick.

This from the CDC website (http://www.cdc.gov/lyme/removal/):

http://knowlyme.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/tickremoval.jpg

Tick Removal
If you find a tick attached to your skin, there's no need to panic. There are several tick removal devices on the market, but a plain set of fine-tipped tweezers will remove a tick quite effectively.

How to remove a tick
Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin's surface as possible.
Pull upward with steady, even pressure. Don't twist or jerk the tick; this can cause the mouth-parts to break off and remain in the skin. If this happens, remove the mouth-parts with tweezers. If you are unable to remove the mouth easily with clean tweezers, leave it alone and let the skin heal.

After removing the tick, thoroughly clean the bite area and your hands with rubbing alcohol, an iodine scrub, or soap and water. From another source (http://www.lymeneteurope.org/info/tick-removal):

Tick Removal

A tick that is embedded in the skin must be removed as soon as possible, but in a proper way. The reason for this is in particular that ticks can carry pathogens, including the Borrelia bacterium that causes Lyme disease. There are many misunderstandings about the method of removal.

Misunderstandings about how to remove a tick

There is much confusion and contradiction about removing ticks. According to some sources, a tick must not be rotated, while other sources report that the correct tick only needs to be rotated, and not to be drawn.

One misconception is that ticks would screw themselves in the skin, and can be in the opposite direction can be screwed out. Ticks don't screw themselves in the skin, and therefore can not be screwed. However, since the hypostome (part that ticks put into skin) has a kind of barbs, a light rotating motion might make the removal easier. But turning probably increases the likelihood that the hypostome breaks off. Whether or not it's best to rotate the tick, and with or without pulling it, is unclear.

Another misconception is that ticks would release from the skin if they are irritated with fire, or by pricking or squeezing them. Trying to choke them by putting something like grease on them isn't advised either. All methods that involve irritating the tick, potentially increase the chance that the tick produces extra saliva or vomits its stomach contents, which could contain pathogens. Removing a tick with your fingers or with flat tip conventional tweezers also gives a chance that the tick is squeezed, and is therefore not recommended.

Recommended safe method to remove ticks

It's probably best to safely remove a tick with a tweezers with thin ends, or with a special tick remover of good quality. There are several tick removal tools, but not every tick removal device works well, especially the tiny larvae or nymph ticks ("seed" ticks) and large engorged ticks are often difficult to remove. In all cases, the tick must be grasped by the head of the tick and close as possible to the skin, while the rear body of the tick may not be squeezed. The tick must also not be pulled at the rear body, because then the tick may tear into two.

(See images above)

With a tweezers with fine tips you grab the tick from the side as displayed on the images above. Pull the tick gently straight out of the skin, in the opposite direction of the hypostome, with gradually increasing force. Note that ticks often bite (or rather stab) a bit sidewise into the skin, so not straight. Disinfect the bite wounds after removal of the tick with alcohol or 70% iodine, and wash the hands well, preferably with a disinfectant soap. After use the tweezers can be disinfected in boiling water, or in case of a tick removal product as advised by the manufacturer.

The more quickly removed, the smaller the chance of infection. In the first 24 hours the risk of transmission of infectious agents is still relatively small, but after that the chance increases fast. Note that not all ticks are infected, but also note that tick can carry other pathogens than the Lyme causing Borrelia, that could make you ill.

If the tick is not removed properly

If the tick is not removed well, in a way that the tick is removed partially, it matters how big the part that is still left in the skin. If only the hypostome or parts of it remains, then that probably gives little or no more risk of infection, but it may irritate the skin. Remove it as you would remove a splinter, e.g. with a sterilized needle or tweezers. With wetting the bite spot, the mouth parts can get out of the skin.

But if the head of the tick remains in place, then the salivary glands may still be there, with possibly pathogens. Then there is still a potential risk of contamination! Try to remove the tick's head as well and if it fails, consult a doctor.

What to do with removed ticks?

Do not crush the tick, this gives a risk that pathogens are released from the tick. Do not flush the tick through the toilet either. If you want to test the tick for the presence of Borrelia and other possible pathogens, save the tick in a little box or something. If you want to throw a tick away, throw the box (well-sealed with tape) outdoors in the garbage bin. You can also fold the tick between tape and then throw it away. BTW: with tape you can also delete walking ticks on the skin or clothes, when you are not able to flick away the tick with a finger or a small object.

Document the tick bite!

Write down the name of the person who is bitten, the date of removal, the location on the body, estimated duration that the tick was embedded into the skin it, and how the tick was removed. Keep checking the skin at the bite site for the appearance of an erythema migrans (circular rash) or other skin rashes.

It is not customary to give preventive antibiotics, but there are doctors who do that. It also depends on factors such as the length of time the tick was embedded, if the tick was removed properly, if there were multiple tick bites, and whether it was demonstrated that a tested tick was infected with Borrelia or other pathogens.
There is more there on the site about removal of ticks from pets.

While antibiotics will kill the disease it will also kill your immune system so you get more rounds of different disease. This is proven by me no doubt. Not a single family member has taken antibiotic for nearly 4 years and not one gets a serious illness other than common colds. There are many alternative treatments you can find around the net. i recommend it.

I HAD Lymes Disease. I was one of the first who was finally diagnosed with late stage deeply imbedded lymes and I had had the disease for over 10 years before the correct diagnoses. I contacted Lymes in the early 80’s.

Do not mess around with this. Go see a doctor with experience with Lymes. I suggest strongly you start with the correct antibiotics.. The doctor will suggest (more than likely) around of antibiotics over the course of 30 days or more

Take them and take them correctly and for the full amount of time.

Use yogurt and other probiotics during this time and afterwards to keep your good bacteria gut flora intact and healthy.

Lymes is a viral infection as well as bacterial and it is complicated.

DO NOT allow this disease to become imbedded into your body systems.

Mine did and it took me another ten years to completely get the dam thing into submission.

After the antibiotics I suggest strongly you use a deep blood and full body detoxifying concoction. I used Essiac Tea for about one year along with other herbal antivirals and immune building tinctures.

Concentrate on your liver and lymphatic system . . . keep them detoxed and moving . . .do not use strong ‘heroic’ type natural remedies them are harsh to your system. You will have ‘herk’ reactions and set you healing back.

Eat healthy food which includes red meat to rebuild strong red blood cells. I am serious. Give your body everything it needs to fight this aggressive viral attack.

Take long hot baths with copious amounts of Epsom Salts.

Listen to the regular medical doctor with this . . . find a good one that has experience with Lymes.

I am a clinical medicinal herbalist and almost always use natural herbal and holistic cures and medicines. There are some diseases and health issues I am very clear that herbals and natural cures are not sufficient.

Use a medical doctor first and then finish the job with holistic medicine.

DO NOT mess around with this. DO NOT try to use herbals, mms or any other ‘natural’ cures first. You will embed these viruses and bacteria deep into your body systems where they will become a full blown debilitating disease.

I appreciate the advise. I make my own fresh yogurt, and enjoy a pretty sensible diet of homemade noodles with wild edibles and other goodness, and daily reishi intake. I wont rely on that to fix this issue so professional counsel is what I will seek, I wont be able to get in until tomorrow to see my gp. I'll let you know how it goes. Lymes is a pretty wild disease it seems like the more I learn about it.

I have just been reading about a Swedish guy who has developed frequencies that kill the bacteria causing Lyme disease. He can actually make a cd of these, which you listen to until the symptoms disappear. I am sure this treatment can be combined with antibiotics. PM me if you want to know more.

History

Updated - January 27,2008

New name: TIRAMSIUDOC - PED 528 RR
PED 528 RRP
(Personal Energy Device)
Built and created by: etekknixx@hotmail.com

The device incorporates underlying vibratory cycles and waves that reach certain condensation points at the atomic and sub-atomic particle level. The underlying nature of this vibratory energy is like a signal that passes from a transmitter to a receiver (the patient). The vibrational signal is a frequency as in the Mayan perspective ..“all of reality is constructed of different levels of frequency“.* One of the key differences between Mayan science and modern science is that modern science generally assumes that the only knowable reality in the world of matter is the one that we experience through our senses; it does not admit that there could be other dimensions co-existing with this reality.
These realities do exist as proven by Physicist and Noble Laureate - Dr. David Bohm and Dr. Wheeler. The frequency 528 - relates to the note MI on the musical scale and derives from the phrase “MI-ra gestorum” in Latin meaning “miracle.” This is the exact frequency used by genetic biochemists to repair damaged DNA - the blueprint of life. Upon discussing this frequency with Dr. Leonard Horowitz, renowned Medical Doctor, Physicist and Scientist, it was mutually agreed upon to incorporate the 528 frequency in both the TIRAMSIUDOC and the PED device.

,

The original TIRAMISUDOC and the New “PED” incorporate knowledge from many sources - for example:

1.Nikolai Tesla - possibly the most prolific inventor and visionary of the early 20th century.
He stated that “in the future almost all curative medicine for the benefit of mankind will be based mostly on vibrational and frequency.”

2.Dr. Joseph Puleo Oregon, USA
He was the person who de-coded the 6 frequencies of Creation, of which one is “MI” on the musical scale, which corresponds with the 528 frequency. This is a beneficial and healing frequency. However, some “numerologists” perceive the number “528” as negative, so Etekknixx resolved this by tripling the circuitry to achieve a perfect ”9”.

3. Dr. Leonard Horowitz World Renowned Medical Doctor and Physicist “Healing Codes for the Biological Apocalypse “ by Dr. Leonard Horowitz and Dr. Joseph Puleo.
It was upon his suggestion to us that the 528 frequency be included in the PED.

4. Ayurvedic neutralization ring is incorporated in the device. The design of this device was handed down to a devotee of Sai Baba during Darshan. (Meditiation)

5. Dr. Wilhelm Reich - Doctor and Psychiatrist - the right-hand man of Sigmund Freud. He became aware of “tachyons” - particles that are faster than light. This is incorporated within the TIRAMISUDOC and the PED.

,

6. Troy Davids, Vancouver, Canada suggested the incorporation of three notes from the musical scale to re-create what is called “white light”. ’White light” is a precursor for enhancing the creation of talomeres ( we think). Talomeres is known as “the fountain of youth”. It is also found in mother’s milk.

7. A generator of ultra-high frequency, invented and built by ETEKKNIXX.
It is in the trillions and trillions of cycles. It disperses or neutralizes adverse energies. (www.enharmonizer.com)

8. Noble metals - such as silver, gold, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium are incorporated so that the vibratory quality is increased as well as overtones (that occur in many different octaves). “These different overtones are keys to different co-existing dimensions“.*

Welcome to my world! Probably the most ticks I have had on me at any one time is about 200 or so (nymphs). In the right season my work gets me between 20 and 100 tick bites in any given week. 100% teatree oil on the site of large ticks extracted immediately, on nymphs too small to extract, and on those scratched out before we know they are there. Colloidal silver, on the bites and internally, and a pro-biotic rich diet. Also, a background state of good health is the best prevention for anything.

My understanding is that if more than a week has passed, it's already too late for the anti-biotics, but I could be wrong.

Hi Toad,
I have had lyme disease, and agree with what blufire wrote.
I had two reoccurrences after the original round of it, because I wasn't taking care of myself and had a lot of stress.
I took 6 months of doxycycline antibiotic after the second reoccurence.
I found that keeping my body alkaline with raw foods and juicing was helpful, and what finally brought me to a better state. I haven't had any symptoms for over a year now.
I've read that heat, as in saunas and steam baths, and summer walks in the southern US heat, help when the spirocytes are deeply embedded, as they were for me.
The Swedish doctor sounds promising -- I think Transiten had some experience with that.
PM me if you want to talk.
Blessings and love,
Marianne

Edit: Yes, get it diagnosed right away ... a lyme titer test (which looks for antibodies in the blood) is how mine was diagnosed. If it comes back negative but you still have symptoms, ask for another test. Depending on where you live, some medical professionals are more knowledgeable about it. In the northeast US, it's more common and so easier to get diagnosed/paid attention to.

For me, the antibiotics saved me, and then I could go about building my health up again with natural remedies.

Agreed with Bill, don't be stupid and get diagnosis and antibiotics for a minimum of 2 weeks NOW NOW NOW. You may get rid of it entirely IF you go fast. The antibiotics at the beginning are proven effective, here they are doing what they were created for.

After, to be certain, you may continue with MMS.

I had the same once, did not hesitate and took the antibiotics, with no recurrence whatsoever.

After antibiotic treatment, do take probiotics and other intestinal stuff to compensate for what the antibiotics will have killed in the intestine.

Toad, keep a good attitude as much as possible. Maintain gratitude for the medicine available to you, and the knowledge and good will of others that help you. You are off to a powerful start, and have every reason for optimism.

I had re-occurrences only because I wasn't listening.

Lyme disease was a great teacher to me. Without it, I wouldn't have learned some lessons that helped me move forward. I know I must take care of my body, and reach for a higher spiritual plane.

Here's info on a couple of ways to help keep the lymph system clear.

"Reflex Point Stimulation
There is a reflex point that helps stimulate lymphatic drainage in the upper body. It is located at the bottom of the breast bone, or sternum. Vigorously rubbing this area for about two minutes can help the lymphatic drainage.

Lymph “Milking”
Another way you can help lymph nodes drain is by gently rubbing or “milking” it toward the heart. This works quite well, for example, with sore throats or sinus congestion. By using a lubricant, you can start under the jaw and milk down the throat on each side of the big muscle on both sides of the neck.

Then start at the base of the skull with your thumbs just behind the ears. Push under the skull, into the neck, with firm pressure slowly going toward the collar bone. Continue to do this, and each time move the thumbs closer together toward the spinal column.

This manipulation alone has relieved headaches and neck tension. Always “milk” or massage the lymphatic system (as well as the circulatory system) toward the heart. If you’ll notice, massage therapists always work toward the heart. Massage therapy is good for the circulation and one of its benefits is stimulating the drainage of the lymph system."

Colloidal Silver Dramatically Boosts Effectiveness of Antibiotics

Research on Antibiotics Reveals Silver Acts as a Booster, While Mixing Certain Antibiotics with Statins Can Be Devastating
July 03, 2013

By Dr. Mercola

The frivolous use of antibiotics, not just in medicine but also in food production, is the root cause of skyrocketing antibiotic resistance.

Data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control1 (ECDC) shows a significant rise of resistance to multiple antibiotics in Klebsiella pneumoniae and E. coli in just the last four years alone, affecting more than one-third of the EU, and the primary cause for this man-made epidemic is the widespread misuse of antibiotics.

Between the years of 1993 and 2005, the number of Americans hospitalized due to the antibiotic-resistant “superbug” MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) skyrocketed from about 2,000 to 370,000.

Currently, MRSA and other antibiotic-resistant infections kill about 60,000 Americans annually, and account for billions of dollars in health care costs.2 Antibiotic-resistant disease is not the only danger associated with the misuse of these drugs. Excessive exposure to antibiotics also takes a heavy toll on your gastrointestinal health, which can predispose you to virtually any disease.

Abnormal gut flora may actually be a major contributing factor to the rise in a wide variety of childhood diseases and ailments, from bowel disorders and allergies to autism.

Agricultural uses of antibiotics account for about 80 percent of all antibiotic use in the US,3 so it's a MAJOR source of human antibiotic consumption. Animals are often fed antibiotics at low doses for disease prevention and growth promotion, and those antibiotics are transferred to you via meat, and even via the manure used as crop fertilizer.

Protecting your gut health and reducing the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria are significant reasons for making sure you're only eating grass-fed, organically-raised meats and animal products.

Gut Viruses Confer Antibiotic-Resistance to Bacteria, New Research Shows

When used properly, in the correct contexts and with responsibility, antibiotics can and do save lives that are threatened by bacterial infections. But there is one important variable that wasn't considered when the widespread use of these "miracle medicines" began, and that is that bacteria are highly adaptable.

They are clearly capable of outsmarting antibiotics, and they are doing so with a vengeance. According to the CDC's National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System:4

"Antibiotics kill or inhibit the growth of susceptible bacteria. Sometimes one of the bacteria survives because it has the ability to neutralize or evade the effect of the antibiotic; that one bacteria can then multiply and replace all the bacteria that were killed off.

Exposure to antibiotics therefore provides selective pressure, which makes the surviving bacteria more likely to be resistant. In addition, bacteria that were at one time susceptible to an antibiotic can acquire resistance through mutation of their genetic material or by acquiring pieces of DNA that code for the resistance properties from other bacteria.

The DNA that codes for resistance can be grouped in a single easily transferable package. This means that bacteria can become resistant to many antimicrobial agents because of the transfer of one piece of DNA."

Interestingly, these bacteria have previously unknown allies that supply them with the antibiotic-resistant genes necessary for their survival. Researchers at the Wyss Institute have discovered that gut viruses known as bacteriophages, a.k.a. “phages” are actually instrumental in conferring antibacterial resistance to bacteria.5, 6 Most importantly:

“[Phage] deliver genes that help the bacteria to survive not just the antibiotic they've been exposed to, but other types of antibiotics as well...

That suggests that phages in the gut may be partly responsible for the emergence of dangerous superbugs that withstand multiple antibiotics, and that drug targeting of phages could offer a potential new path to mitigate development of antibiotic resistance,” the Institute’s press release7 states.

Phages Are Actually an Important Part of Your Body’s Defense System

More than 90 percent of the DNA in your body is not yours, but actually belongs to a wide variety of microbes, and these findings just go to show how intricately tied your health is to the microorganisms that live inside you. And, while the word “virus” brings to mind all things “bad” for you, this is not necessarily true.

Another recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences8 found that many of these viruses (phages) actually serve as immune helpers—not enemies—and form an important part of your body’s defense system.9

Wherever bacteria reside, you will also find phages, because phages depend on bacteria for their survival. Phages specialize in breaking open and killing certain kinds of bacteria, hijacking them in order to replicate.

Most phages have hollow heads, which store their DNA and RNA, and tunnel tails designed for binding to the surface of their bacterial targets. According to phages.org, once a phage has attached itself to a bacterium:

“The viral DNA is then injected through the tail into the host cell, where it directs the production of progeny phages, often over a hundred in half an hour. These 'young' phages burst from the host cell (killing it) and infect more bacteria.”

The researchers found evidence that these phages partner with animals and humans to stave off bacterial infections and control the composition of friendly microbes in your body. The researchers speculate that some phages might protect bacteria that benefit their hosts (i.e. you), while destroying those that cause harm.

Which brings us back to the featured research, which suggests that these phages may also play a significant role in the rapid rise of antibiotic resistance... In essence, it would appear our zealous overuse of antibiotic drugs is causing these helpful viruses to boost the survivability of bacteria during the onslaught of a deadly foe—the antibiotic—only in this case, the end result is disastrous rather than helpful for the host... On the upside, these findings may confer new hope for effective treatments. According to Don Ingber, M.D., Ph.D., Founding Director of the Wyss Institute:10

"Antibiotic resistance is as pressing a global health problem as they come, and to fight it, it's critical to understand it. [These] novel findings offer a previously unknown way to approach this problem -- by targeting the phage that live in our intestine, rather than the pathogens themselves."

Colloidal Silver Dramatically Boosts Effectiveness of Antibiotics

The use of silver in the battle against pathogenic bacteria goes way back into antiquity. Hippocrates was one of the first to describe its antimicrobial properties in 400 B.C. Over the past few years, several studies have demonstrated the fact that silver is indeed one of the most effective agents in the battle against antibiotic-resistant super pathogens. Yet conventional medicine has largely dismissed such claims, relegating colloidal silver to the “woo-woo” section of medical myth.

They may be inclined to change their tune however, in light of the latest research11, 12 which shows that low doses of silver can make antibiotics up to 1,000 times more effective, and may even allow an antibiotic to successfully combat otherwise antibiotic-resistant bacteria. As reported by Medical News Today:13

“...[N]ot only did silver boost the ability of a broad range of commonly used antibiotics so as to stop mice dying of otherwise lethal infections, but it made at least one resistant bacterium succumb to antibiotics again. The addition of silver also broadened the effect of vancomycin, an antibiotic that is usually only effective at killing Gram-positive bacteria like Staph and Strep; aided by silver it killed Gram-negative bacteria such as those that cause food poisoning and dangerous hospital-acquired infections.”

For example, by adding a small amount of silver to the antibiotic, a powerful synergism occurred, and a urinary tract infection caused by tetracycline-resistant E. coli was successfully eradicated. Silver also helped save the lives of 90 percent of mice suffering with a life-threatening abdominal inflammation by adding it to the antibiotic vanomycin. In the group receiving vanomycin only, a mere 10 percent survived. The researchers discovered two mechanisms that help explain how silver can boost the effectiveness of an antibiotic:

Silver interferes with the bacteria’s metabolism, increasing production of reactive oxygen species14 (ROS); products of normal oxygen consuming metabolic processes in your body that, in excess, can damage cell membranes and DNA. Many antibiotics are believed to kill bacteria by producing ROS compounds, and here, the researchers found that adding a small amount of silver boosted the antibiotic’s ability to kill anywhere from 10 and 1,000 times more bacteria
Silver makes the bacteria’s cell membrane more permeable. This may explain the beneficial effect of silver on gram-negative bacteria, the cells of which are often impenetrable to antibiotics due to the molecular size of the drugs

What About Potential Toxicity of Colloidal Silver?

As for toxicity, the researchers found that the doses of silver required were far smaller than the dose needed to harm either mice or cultured human cells, suggesting that oral and injectable silver should be quite safe. That said, quality is extremely important, as misrepresentation of colloidal silver by less scrupulous manufacturers has in the past led to some of its more negative connotations. According to a Commercial Product Report15 by silver-colloids.com, a site that provides detailed laboratory analyses of colloidal silver products, there are three distinctly different types of silver products on the market that are all labeled and sold as “colloidal” silver:

True colloidal silver
Ionic silver
Silver protein: Due to the high concentration of large silver particles, silver protein products are known to cause argyria, which turns your skin blue-gray color.

When purchasing colloidal silver, it’s very important to avoid silver protein formulas. True colloidal silver seems to be the most recommended, but ionic silver could probably also be used. In the featured study, they used ionic silver (Ag) in a silver nitrate salt (AgNO3), which, again, was found to be quite non-toxic in animals and human cell cultures. Substantial antimicrobial activity was found at 30 microns (μM) against E. coli. If you take ionic silver products according to the manufacturer’s recommended dosage, ionic silver will not cause argyria. That said, since there are potential health risks involved if you select the wrong formula, I recommend you use colloidal silver only under the guidance and supervision of a qualified alternative health practitioner who can help you select a high-quality product.

Statin Users Beware... Your Cholesterol Medication May Not Mix Well with Antibiotics!

In related news, Canadian researchers16 warn that patients —especially the elderly—taking cholesterol-lowering drugs such as Lipitor, should avoid the antibiotics clarithromycin and erythromycin, as these antibiotics inhibit the metabolism of statins. Increased drug concentrations in your body may cause muscle or kidney damage, and even death. As reported by WebMD:17

"'These drugs do interact and cause difficulties for patients,' said lead researcher Dr. Amit Garg, a professor in the department of epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. These adverse reactions are rare, Garg added. 'Most people will be fine,' he said. 'But at a population level, hundreds of preventable hospitalizations are occurring.' For someone taking a statin, the study suggests that substituting a different antibiotic -- azithromycin -- is safer because it doesn't interfere with the metabolism of statins. Another strategy is to stop the statin until the antibiotic course is finished, Garg said."

What You Can Do to Help Stop the Spread of Antibiotic-Resistant Disease

You can help yourself and your community by using antibiotics only when absolutely necessary and by purchasing organic, antibiotic-free meats and other foods. Even though the problem of antibiotic resistance needs to be stemmed through public policy on a nationwide level, the more people who get involved on a personal level to stop unnecessary antibiotic use the better.

Remember, not every bacterial infection needs to be treated with a drug. First, as an all-around preventive measure, you’ll want to make sure your vitamin D level is optimized year-round, especially during pregnancy, along with vitamin K2. But there are also a number of natural compounds that can help boost your immune system function to help rid you of an infection, including:

Oregano (oil of oregano)
Garlic
Echinacea
Manuka honey (for topical application)

Last but not least, the use of silver compounds appears to bring new hope against antibiotic-resistant pathogens. Still, creating more potent antibiotics, regardless of how that’s achieved, will not help us in the long run unless we also address the root causes of antibiotic resistance, which is rampant overuse—in medicine, but perhaps even more importantly, in agriculture.

If you live in the United States and want to get involved on a national level, Food Democracy Now! has created a petition against the overuse of antibiotics in livestock production.18 If you care about this issue, I suggest you use this petition to make your voice heard.

I have slowly been feeling quite better, the spot on my back is dissipating, and I'm feeling more energized and more and more like my original self. The antibiotics have been punishing my rear end, the yogurt and probitics have been helping quite a bit.

Very much so do I appreciate all the help and concern deeply. I love you all. :)
