According to a US Customs and Border Protection report obtained by the Electronic Frontier Foundation through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, the US is leaving the door open to add weapons to its drones patrolling its borders. Currently, customs has eight drones patrolling its northern and southern borders, and it also has two patrolling the Caribbean. Apparently, the US has no intention of slowing or curbing its ever-expanding drone program. The Resident (aka Lori Harfenist) discusses.

Edward Snowden recently revealed that the US is effectively spying on everyone, domestically and internationally, by collecting, decyphering, and storing all of our digital communications. But in actuality, the story is old news. Wired magazine ran the story in April of 2012, and USA Today published a similar article as early as 2006. So why is the world just now enraged?

The University of Denver announced George W. Bush as recipient to their annual "Improving the Human Condition" Award, and staffers, students, and alumni alike protested. Instead of naming a new recipient, the University wants to rename the annual award, casting doubt about the award's significance. It is hardly the only award to be bestowed for questionable reasons. The Resident (aka Lori Harfenist) discusses.

In the wake of tragedy, entrepreneuring programmers create apps and games to capitalize on sensationalized horrors. Someone created a Trayvon Martin app; many created Sandy Hook games; there have been games for Charles Ramsey, noted kidnapper foiler; the list goes on and on. The trend is an example of capitalism at its worst, but what does it mean for society at large? The Resident (aka Lori Harfenist) discusses.

At the annual talks with China, Joe Biden said, "We both will benefit from an open, secure, reliable internet. Outright cyber-theft that US companies are experiencing now must be viewed as out of bounds and needs to stop." This comes on the heels of the revelation that the US is collecting the world's data covertly. Such a hypocritical statement by the US is nothing new, though.
