Thought this might make an interesting debate.
Video description:
The video below expresses some of the thoughts from the father of SETI, Frank Drake and Co-founder of the SETI Institute and TED Prize winner, Jill Tarter about why the search of the cosmos is vitally important - in some surprising ways.

SETI is still operating and so is the Allen array.

After many years in operation not much evidence has come forward. The people doing the science seem authentic enough and passionate but there are a few questions that come to mind.
-why haven't they used other methods of information gathering?
-would they be allowed to share the evidence if they acquired it?

It's strange the only evidence I recall is the famous 'wow' signal. Even NASA produced more evidence without even trying.

If they would just aim the dish at mt.shasta they would get all the proof they need... no need to look into deep space, ET lives right here on earth, a magestic race, peaceful and magnificent, and spiritual beings with perfect features , the tall blondes in Northern california ... then point it at the mountains of India the himalayan mountains - the blue people ... the sad part is they look for signals with an earth mentality, other beings use symbols the universal language , with earth prone to violence , you think they want to engage us ? on any level ? we can't get along with the person across the street, much less another country or another planet, or another galaxy ...when we acheive global sanity, the ships will land in your front yard ... I'm not joking, I believe when we grow up, accept that we are not alone, and peace is more important than money, clear them a spot to park the saucer ...

A few years ago, maybe 2005, I used to run the SETI program on my computer, until I learned about their switching off from viewing the sun at certain times.

During one of the runs, I noticed in the top right quadrant two numbers, plain as day "06 2006" (I think) for quite a time. The 06 was above the 2006. I reported this to SETI and noticed a little while later that they thought they should be tracking nearer to Earth.

A 2009 presentation but still pertinent today.

"When UFOs were in the collective mentality, governments in the United States and Canada turned to their intelligence services to assess the reports that piled up on alien spacecraft. Should project SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) ever receive a signal from outer space, there will be yet another role for intelligence services, not in arming the lasers, but in trying to decode the messages."
