chunkymark aka The artist taxi driver socking it to us that the judges ruled that the government's bedroom tax does not lawfully discriminate against the disabled. He rants about much more which, if I report here, there would be no need to post this video
He swears a lot, so be warned.

Socking what to us? Can you please give us a brief description of the contents of the video (besides the swearing lol)?

Avalon minds will appreciate the time savings and guidance!

Thanks, Sierra :)

...also, "shocking"....when used in conjunction with "our gov't", is only the correct term when they are actually doing something to help and/or represent the people. This nullifies the use of it when referring to gov't abuse. "Shocking govt abuse" is an absurdity of the English language, considering abuse is standard govt policy.

Just wanted to clear that up :p ;)

Beat me to it by 2 minutes and I am glad you did. You worded it so much better.

Agreed, Donk and risveglio. I think, though, you might well have understood what he meant. He might also appreciate your criticism on his video comments and maybe even take it on board. I would not be so pedantic, since he is well- intentioned.

It was aimed at you kt :p. and your sensational title

A joke...not trying to be pendanctic (i think, dang...gotta look that up!)

Being an English-nazi of sorts, trying to get Avalon to use words properly. We shouldn't be shocked by govt abuse, not here...we'd be shocked to see the govt working!

Love to you my friend, I'll check it out when I can sneak the buds on here at the cracker factory...for now I have to check to see if I should by offended by you big word :o

Alright my bad, I apologize...I see what you did there.

**putting on my cow suit**

The title if this thread is title of the YouTube video. Which is of a truly shocked, angry Brit, who is discovering a more recent and particularly diabolical injustice of his govt. I misunderstood your thread title for your personal opinion, perhaps more specificity and a proper resume (*winks at flash*) would be in order to avoid confusion?

I'll do my best, donk. Thanks, though.

I'm just playing...Gotta laugh to keep from cryin...I used to be exactly like that dude (and still use as many f-bombs in real life, I'm a work in progress)...it's exhausting

Wait til he gets real deep in it, if he hasn't checked that energy by then his head will explode (again, just like me). It runs deep and is very frustrating--hopefully he reaches some people and effects some change. I always thought: they can't do anything worse than this........and then they do.

I got tired of being angry. Wish I could stop being so sad though. Bad humor and sarcasm are outlets for me,

Forget mincing words over the title. Did anyone listen to the content!!!
There was passion and real outrage, as there should be. The first step toward change.
I am thankful I'm able to be shocked. They haven't worn me down yet.

Unfortunately common sense isn't that common anymore.

Where people are receiving housing benefit and/or living in council/housing association accommodation it seems fair that if there are spare rooms they should either downsize or pay for the privilage of an unused room.

There are plenty of 2/3 bedroom houses that are lived in by one couple who's children have moved out and plenty of families living in cramped conditions in 1/2 bedroom flats etc.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem clear if local councils will be able to use their 'common sense' and allow for instance, a family who has a child on dialysis, needs lifting hoists, sensory/therapy rooms etc a separate bedroom so the other sibling isn't affected.

I had read that local councils would be able to use their discretion but I haven't heard any news to suggest this is happening.

Sorry I disagree.

Yes there are a few couples in London who have spare bedrooms after bringing up kids but all these couples have lived in there homes for many years and are now elderly and have paid taxes all their lifes (mostly) so why should they have to move many miles away from family/friends just so the government can get a few bedrooms back to ease the overcrowding that they caused by selling the social housing stock in the first place.

The Tory government have been trying to get the poor out of London for many years and at the moment seem to be doing just that

This is just one example of many this government is doing to bash the poor and working class and the bedroom tax is just one more tool for them to use.

Peace my friend

John

The exact same thing happens here through other means.

Once a person ends up disabled, it is incredibly hard to get a job. So most rely on handouts from the government. Now.. if they do manage to get a job, generally it's part time or the pay is very low (lower than the govt handouts) and... if the government can see you have a job they redce your payments substancially. Having a job + handouts = less than the total ammount you'd get living off just handouts... but even then the $$ from handouts is not enough.. as the woman in this video bravely explains the situation exactly how it is.

what angers me is how she smiles and smirks through the whole thing. It's not a funny issue at all.

And over here - a tonne of money is wasted by people on unemployment benefits. I know many people who have never worked a day in their life, and never plan too. they play the system to get handouts, they attend compulsuary job/interview help workshops and falsely fill out paperwork that says they've gone for interviews at X number of places and still have got no work.

Yet they turn around and give even less money to people on benefits, and penalise the ones that want to work.

Why not put a cap on unemployment handouts? I kind of like the US's approach to that - limit on a number of handouts you can get untill they stop. Once you get a job and start working again, let the # of handouts start to roll back at a slow rate so if **** happens again in the future and you need a hand you can get one - as again in this system - the people that genuinely need help are denied it or screwd out of any decent help by the system - and the people abusing the system are doing just fine and living cosy.
