The Aleutian Chain in Alaska is really out there, even from the mainland of Alaska. It's constantly buffeted by winds and storms, not to mention volcanoes and earthquakes. How anyone and their mummies survived is beyond me, but there it is ... video is about 45 minutes long.

Thanks LahTera I had not heard of this before another
ancient civilisation.............The usual tragic clash of
cultures when Europeans colonised the new word from
top to bottom it would seem.

Halfway around the world from Egypt, hundreds of mummies have been found in the Aleutian Islands
of the Alaskan coast, preserved in much the same way as Egyptian mummies but in a harsher climate.
These mummies, curled in the fetal position, are yielding their mysteries to science. They bear mute
testimony to a sophisticated 9000-year-old Unangan culture that once thrived in one of the most
inhospitable places on earth. The program presents a comprehensive look at the mysterious remains,
their remote island home and the scientists who have braved the harsh Aleutian climate to chart the
fate of the ancient Unangan people.
