US to close embassies Sunday over security fears: State Dept

(AFP) – 36 minutes ago

WASHINGTON — The United States said it would close an unspecified number of embassies around the world on Sunday over security concerns.

State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf on Thursday called the step "precautionary" but declined to specify the threat or list which missions would be closed.

"The Department of State has instructed certain US embassies and consulates to remain closed or to suspend operations on Sunday, August 4," Harf told reporters.

The decision was taken "out of an abundance of caution and care for our employees and others who may be visiting our installations," she said.

Harf said that the embassies would be closed specifically on Sunday, with an assessment afterwards on whether to reopen them.

"It is possible we may have additional days of closing as well," she said.

Harf declined to specify from which part of the world the threat was detected.

Government offices are nearly always closed in the United States on Sunday, which is the start of the work week in many Muslim-majority countries.

The United States has been especially cautious about security since an attack on its consulate in Benghazi, Libya on September 11 last year.

The attack killed four Americans, including ambassador Chris Stevens, and led critics in Congress to accuse the State Department of insufficient security.

Here's the latest info re: op that I've found so far:

Possible al-Qaeda threat closes US embassies, consulates Sunday across Middle East
By M. Alex Johnson, Staff Writer, NBC News

The United States is closing embassies and consulates Sunday in Egypt, Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan and a number of other countries because of a possible al-Qaeda-related threat to diplomatic posts worldwide, American officials told NBC News on Thursday.

The U.S. has been "apprised of information that out of an abundance of caution and care for our employees and others who may be visiting our installations, that indicates we should institute these precautionary steps," said State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf.

She didn't say which or how many embassies would be closed or what kind of information led to the decision, but she said the closings could be extended, "depending on our analysis."

U.S. officials told NBC News that the closings would involve some or most of the countries in the State Department's Near East and South and Central Asia regions of operations.

Those regions encompass 31 countries and the Palestinian territories. Most embassies and consulates would normally be open on a Sunday, which is a workday in Israel and in Muslim countries.

Messages have already gone out alerting U.S. citizens that embassies and consulates will be closed in Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Kuwait, Libya, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates.

Other sensitive countries in the regions include India, Iran, Jordan, Pakistan and Syria.

The officials said the threat appeared to have originated somewhere in the Middle East and to be related to al-Qaeda. It was aimed at overseas diplomatic posts, not at facilities inside the U.S., they said.

No further details were immediately available.

Sunday is President Barack Obama's 52nd birthday, and it's also the day Iran inaugurates Hassan Rowhani as its new president. But U.S. officials told NBC News they had heard nothing to indicate that the date was chosen for either of those reasons.

Something stinks.

An al Qaeda plot is linked to an announcement by the State Department that it was closing several consulates and embassies around the world on Sunday due to a security threat, CBS News has learned.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNf5iB37Yr4
CBS News correspondent David Martin reports that U.S. intelligence has picked up signs of an al Qaeda plot against American diplomatic posts in the Middle East and other Muslim countries. The intelligence does not mention a specific location, which is why all embassies that would normally be open on Sunday have been ordered to close. That includes embassies and consulates in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, where Sunday is the start of the work week.

Martin further reported that officials say this appears to be a real plot in the making and not just the normal chatter among terrorists talking about attacks they'd like to carry out. But these same officials add they are missing key pieces of information.

As of 7:35 PM ET Thursday, at least 14 embassies have announced that they will close on Sunday in accordance with the State Department's guidance, including the U.S. embassies in Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. A statement on the website of the embassy in Kuwait explained, "The Department of State has instructed certain U.S. Embassies and Consulates to remain closed or to suspend operations on Sunday, August 4...Accordingly, the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait will be closed on Sunday, August 4."

In the meantime, the statement continued, "All U.S. citizen services appointments and visa appointments have been cancelled and have been rescheduled on an individual basis."

State Dept: Some embassies to close Sunday due to "security considerations"
Earlier, Marie Harf, the deputy spokeswoman for the State Department, told reporters that the step was taken as a "precautionary" measure. She did not provide further specifics on the nature of the threat or which embassies would be forced to shutter for the day.

"The Department of State has instructed certain U.S. embassies and consulates to remain closed or to suspend operations on Sunday, August 4th," she said, explaining that the decision was made "out of an abundance of caution."

She said that is is "possible" some facilities would remain closed for more than a day, depending on the results of a security analysis.

A senior State Department official told CBS News: "For those who asked about which embassies and consulates we have instructed to suspend operations on August 4th, the answer is that we have instructed all U.S. Embassies and Consulates that would have normally been open on Sunday to suspend operations, specifically on August 4th. It is possible we may have additional days of closing as well." The official added: "The Department, when conditions warrant, takes steps like this to balance our continued operations with security and safety."

Harf declined to say from which region of the world the threat had emanated, saying only that "security considerations have led us to take this precautionary step, as we do from time to time."

The State Department will provide further details soon, Harf said.

Congress interviewing "dozens" of Benghazi witnesses
The security of American embassies and other diplomatic facilities has recently emerged as a political flashpoint in the wake of the September 11, 2012 attack on a U.S. facility in Benghazi, Libya, that claimed the lives of four Americans, including then-ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens.

In the wake of that attack, Republicans accused the State Department of providing insufficient security for diplomatic personnel in Libya.

Other reports of these embassy closings:

US Embassies To Shut Over 'Security Threat' (Sky News) (http://news.sky.com/story/1123504/us-embassies-to-shut-over-security-threat):

A senior State Department official told TV network NBC that the threat appeared to have originated somewhere in the Middle East and was believed to be related to al Qaeda. It was aimed at overseas diplomatic posts, not at facilities inside the US, they said.

Quoting officials, CNN news reported that the closures will take place in Egypt, Israel, Libya, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
Threat prompts U.S. embassy closures overseas (WXII12) (http://www.wxii12.com/news/politics/us-closing-key-mideast-embassies-on-security-concerns/-/9677658/21297884/-/14u7ol5/-/index.html):

In addition to Egypt and Israel, the State Department action includes diplomatic facilities in Saudi Arabia, Libya, Iraq and Kuwait, according to the agency and Twitter postings.

A senior State Department official said the agency has told those embassies that normally would be beginning the work week on Sunday to close, but additional days could be added.

Diplomatic facilities in the region are for the most part closed or operate with minimal staff on Fridays and Saturdays.

Separately, another U.S. official told CNN that the Obama administration is monitoring threats against the embassy in Sanaa, Yemen.

The official did not say whether the embassy would close.

President Barack Obama met with Yemen President Abdo Rabu Mansour Hadi at the White House on Thursday. Yemen has been cracking down on al Qaeda.

A U.S. official earlier told CNN the embassy closures were because of "more than the usual chatter" about a potential terrorist threat, which was not specific about time and location.
US To Shut Embassies Over Security Fears (wessexfm) (http://www.wessexfm.com/news/world/1036924/us-to-shut-embassies-over-security-fears/):

The announcement came as the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee issued subpoenas to the State Department Thursday seeking documents related to the deadly assault last year on the US diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.

Darrell Issa, the Republican chairman of the committee, said in a statement that he wants all documents the department gave to an independent review board headed by former diplomat Thomas Pickering and retired Admiral Mike Mullen.

They keep referring to the Benghazi event which happened on Sept 11, 2012. This is Aug 4th. so I still don't see the connection, but here is another article worth slipping in here.

Exclusive: Dozens of CIA operatives on the ground during Benghazi attack
CNN has uncovered exclusive new information about what is allegedly happening at the CIA, in the wake of the deadly Benghazi terror attack.

Four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed in the assault by armed militants last September 11 in eastern Libya.

Sources now tell CNN dozens of people working for the CIA were on the ground that night, and that the agency is going to great lengths to make sure whatever it was doing, remains a secret.

CNN has learned the CIA is involved in what one source calls an unprecedented attempt to keep the spy agency's Benghazi secrets from ever leaking out.

Read: Analysis: CIA role in Benghazi underreported

Since January, some CIA operatives involved in the agency's missions in Libya, have been subjected to frequent, even monthly polygraph examinations, according to a source with deep inside knowledge of the agency's workings.

The goal of the questioning, according to sources, is to find out if anyone is talking to the media or Congress.

It is being described as pure intimidation, with the threat that any unauthorized CIA employee who leaks information could face the end of his or her career.

In exclusive communications obtained by CNN, one insider writes, "You don't jeopardize yourself, you jeopardize your family as well."

Another says, "You have no idea the amount of pressure being brought to bear on anyone with knowledge of this operation."

"Agency employees typically are polygraphed every three to four years. Never more than that," said former CIA operative and CNN analyst Robert Baer.

In other words, the rate of the kind of polygraphs alleged by sources is rare.

"If somebody is being polygraphed every month, or every two months it's called an issue polygraph, and that means that the polygraph division suspects something, or they're looking for something, or they're on a fishing expedition. But it's absolutely not routine at all to be polygraphed monthly, or bi-monthly," said Baer.

CIA spokesman Dean Boyd asserted in a statement that the agency has been open with Congress.

"The CIA has worked closely with its oversight committees to provide them with an extraordinary amount of information related to the attack on U.S. facilities in Benghazi," the statement said.

"CIA employees are always free to speak to Congress if they want," the statement continued. "The CIA enabled all officers involved in Benghazi the opportunity to meet with Congress. We are not aware of any CIA employee who has experienced retaliation, including any non-routine security procedures, or who has been prevented from sharing a concern with Congress about the Benghazi incident."

Among the many secrets still yet to be told about the Benghazi mission, is just how many Americans were there the night of the attack.

A source now tells CNN that number was 35, with as many as seven wounded, some seriously.

While it is still not known how many of them were CIA, a source tells CNN that 21 Americans were working in the building known as the annex, believed to be run by the agency.

The lack of information and pressure to silence CIA operatives is disturbing to U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf, whose district includes CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia.

"I think it is a form of a cover-up, and I think it's an attempt to push it under the rug, and I think the American people are feeling the same way," said the Republican.

"We should have the people who were on the scene come in, testify under oath, do it publicly, and lay it out. And there really isn't any national security issue involved with regards to that," he said.

Wolf has repeatedly gone to the House floor, asking for a select committee to be set-up, a Watergate-style probe involving several intelligence committee investigators assigned to get to the bottom of the failures that took place in Benghazi, and find out just what the State Department and CIA were doing there.

More than 150 fellow Republican members of Congress have signed his request, and just this week eight Republicans sent a letter to the new head of the FBI, James Comey, asking that he brief Congress within 30 days.

Read: White House releases 100 pages of Benghazi e-mails

In the aftermath of the attack, Wolf said he was contacted by people closely tied with CIA operatives and contractors who wanted to talk.

Then suddenly, there was silence.

"Initially they were not afraid to come forward. They wanted the opportunity, and they wanted to be subpoenaed, because if you're subpoenaed, it sort of protects you, you're forced to come before Congress. Now that's all changed," said Wolf.

Lawmakers also want to about know the weapons in Libya, and what happened to them.

Speculation on Capitol Hill has included the possibility the U.S. agencies operating in Benghazi were secretly helping to move surface-to-air missiles out of Libya, through Turkey, and into the hands of Syrian rebels.

It is clear that two U.S. agencies were operating in Benghazi, one was the State Department, and the other was the CIA.

The State Department told CNN in an e-mail that it was only helping the new Libyan government destroy weapons deemed "damaged, aged or too unsafe retain," and that it was not involved in any transfer of weapons to other countries.

But the State Department also clearly told CNN, they "can't speak for any other agencies."

The CIA would not comment on whether it was involved in the transfer of any weapons.

Wow jimbo, I'm amazed but definitely not surprised. It's my birthday too. :) The only differences are, I was born the same YEAR as Obama ... 1961.... he was born 14 hours later, and somewhere on the other side of the planet from Brooklyn, where exactly is anybody's guess.

I do know a couple of stupid and cruel Leo's.... but I was told by a very gifted psychic healer that people born on that day have a very high degree of spiritual potential according to their astrological profile, and may be (or have already been) chosen to do very significant things as the upcoming paradigm-changing events unfold.... which convinced me that Obama was pre-ordained to do whatever he is going to do... and I do still hold out hope that he is actually on the good side and waiting for the right moment to betray his controllers....despite all the disgusting things he is doing. The reason for that hope is the Executive Order he signed recently to give diplomatic immunity to the International Police, who can then round up and arrest the Cabalists without being harassed by anyone.... legally that is.

US Issues Worldwide Travel Alert until August 31, 2013:

2 August 2013 Last updated at 16:20 GMT

US in worldwide travel alert after 'al-Qaeda threat'

The US state department has said it is issuing a global travel alert because of an unspecified al-Qaeda threat.

In a statement, the department said the potential for an attack was particularly strong in the Middle East and North Africa.

The move comes shortly after the US announced 21 embassies and consulates in 18 counties would be shut on Sunday.

The alert expires on 31 August 2013, the department said. It recommended US citizens travelling abroad be vigilant.

"Current information suggests that al-Qa'ida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks both in the region and beyond, and that they may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of August," the statement said.
'Not chit chat'

Dutch Ruppersberger, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said the threat was not prompted by "the regular chit chat" gleaned from would-be militants online or elsewhere.

"The most important thing we have to do is protect American lives," he told the Associated Press news agency.
US Consulate in Benghazi is seen in flames 11 September 2012 Four Americans died in an attack last year on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya

An unnamed senior US official told NBC the threat may be related to the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which ends next week.

In the Muslim world, Sunday is a work day. In other parts of the world US diplomatic offices are shut on Sunday.

"It is possible we may have additional days of closing as well," a senior state department official told the BBC on Thursday.

The official said the state department had "been apprised of information" leading it to take these "precautionary steps... out of an abundance of caution".

Last year on 11 September, the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked, leaving four Americans dead.

Other embassies are routinely targets of protesters.

The US diplomatic missions to be closed on Sunday are in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Algiers, Algeria; Amman, Jordan; Baghdad, Iraq; Cairo, Egypt; Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; Djibouti, Djibouti; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Doha, Qatar; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Erbil, Iraq; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Kabul, Afghanistan; Khartoum, Sudan; Kuwait City, Kuwait; Manama, Bahrain; Muscat, Oman; Nouakchott, Mauritania; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Sanaa, Yemen and Tripoli, Libya.

UK closes embassy in Yemen over possible terror threat
Published time: August 02, 2013 20:26
Edited time: August 02, 2013 21:05

The British embassy in Yemen will be closed for two days over 'increased security concerns', the UK Foreign Office has announced.

The British embassy in Yemen will close temporarily after escalating violence and terrorist threats, the Foreign Office said Friday. While the Embassy will operate with an “essential staff,” all other British citizens were advised to leave Yemen.

The British announced the precautionary measures after the United States issued a worldwide travel alert, citing the intelligence indicating al-Qaeda terrorists may be planning attack somewhere in the Middle East or Africa.

“There is a high threat from terrorism throughout Yemen,” the Foreign Office said in a statement. “[We] advise against all travel to Yemen and strongly urge British nationals to leave now.”

“If you don’t leave the country now while commercial carriers are still flying it is extremely unlikely that the British government will be able to evacuate you or provide consular assistance,” the statement added. “There is a high threat from terrorism throughout Yemen. Terrorists continue to threaten further attacks. Be particularly vigilant during Ramadan, when tensions could be heightened.”

The threat did not identify a specific target but applied more broadly to Western interests in the region, US security sources told Reuters. Al-Qaeda’s affiliate group in the Arabian Peninsula, known as AQAP, is reported to be behind the reported plans.

“The threat appears to be much worse than it has in a long time,” an unnamed Yemeni official told CNN. Sources indicated that an attack was in the final planning stages as the final days of Ramadan, the Muslim holiday, are approaching.

“Current information suggest that’s Al Qaeda and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks in both the region and beyond, and that they may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of August,” the US State Department’s travel alert warned.

The British Foreign Office, which announced the Sana’a embassy would be closed from August 4 to 5, is in close contact with US officials. Meanwhile, US embassies will be closed in Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Mauritania, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

Officials said the intelligence community has traced a plot by Al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula to blow up a commercial airliner or cargo plane.

They identified the AQAP planner as Ibrahim Hassan Al Asiri, believed to have taken over the Al Qaida network in Saudi Arabia and Yemen in wake of the U.S. assassination of Said Al Shihri, deemed the deputy commander of the insurgency movement.

“There is intelligence that he has unfortunately trained others and there’s a lot of effort to identify those folks,” U.S. Transportation Security Administration head John Pistole said.

James Gilliland talks about the unusual energies coming up in August (possibly coming together of two time lines) which may have something to do with the subject of the OP of this thread.
Starting at about 39 minutes in (to get a little background, then-- he says that "they" (meaning his contacts, presumably) say everything is going to bust loose in the next 3 weeks--meaning energies that will further scramble the consciousness of TPTW, presumably, and further awaken the consciousness of those who are ready to be in alignment.
So perhaps TPTW are planning to attempt the creation of a new disaster to provide them with their usual, required sustenance of fear, trauma, grief, etc. to help them to counteract the effects of the new energies incoming.

If they can't keep us safe on their soil, they need to be gone from ours. This may be a narrow minded view but at some point we have to make the tough choices when it comes to other countries.

You're targetting the symptom rather than the cause. If there's a genuine threat, don't you think that it's largely as a result of the imperialistic tendencies of a sociopathic ruling cabal? Saying one thing and doing another, trouncing centuries of tradition and protections with the swipe of a pen, acting above the law etc..?

Sure, but what is the answer? You can't just act nice, say you are sorry for the acts of the past then continue to do the same or worse. I would say withdraw, remove all contact. Let all the crap we stepped in over the years become a distant memory. Get right with the homeland first. If other countries ask for our assistance, then we consider the possibility we go back and help. If what we represent and hold dear is what they want. Then we take that step.
I never thought I would sound like Ron Paul. Ha

I think the only way things will change for the good of the many is by sustained mass non-cooperation. Anything else is simply skirting the issue. At some point I think this has to be inevitable if we want things to change for the better, save some form of external intervention.

Just another news update puzzle piece.... Germany and France follow suit and close embassies in Yemen.

A new tidbit.... recent jailbreaks...looks like maybe "someone" got away (?):

UK embassy in Yemen to close amid global terror alerts

.........................
The embassy in Sana'a will be closed on Sunday and Monday, as will the embassies of France and Germany.

........................

Interpol issued a separate global security alert, citing jail breaks linked to al-Qaeda in nine countries.

The international policing organisation said "hundreds of terrorists" had been freed during breakouts in countries including Iraq, Libya and Pakistan in the past month.

Interpol said al-Qaeda was suspected of "involvement in several of the breakouts" and asked its 190 member states to help "determine whether any of these recent events are co-ordinated or linked".

........................

Security analyst Peter Bergen said militant group al-Qaeda had previously showed "strong interest in launching attacks" on the 27th day of Ramadan, which is on Sunday.

These things are perplexing. While I agree a false flag is imminent, I just don't think they would be telling us about it so blatantly, e.g., "by the way, we're closing the embassies, etc., on August 4th because we're staging a false flag..." blah, blah, blah. This is more likely a distraction.

I foresee this weekend coming and going without incident.

Perhaps at the end of the month, or around labor day, when the present threat blows over and nobody is talking about a terror attack anymore and everything is forgotten, is when we will see a massive false flag. The value of the false flag is taking the nation by shock and surprise after rendering the people to a period of perpetual fear without incident... The objective of the architects of psyops is to strike when the collective guard is down.

There is some info shared about a possible false flag event occurring this August here:
ZXwS4Mp5aiE
Beginning at about 1:21:22 into the discussion, Stewart Swerdlow mentions August as a time when the Illuminati may showcase their staged invasion of aliens.
He even gave the date of August 18th this year as the date for the alien false flag event.
(He mentioned that date in conjunction with a Russian radio show, though he didn't actually say where he got that information--perhaps more details were included in the presentation he did shortly before this interview, at the Awakening Weekend event...)
He agrees with Simon Parkes (who is also in the lineup of speakers) that the next 2 years are critical, and within which time the staged invasion is planned to occur.
He also says that a real alien invasion will occur sometime after that...
But that's a whole different subject...

I mentioned this on the travel alert thread as well- what embassy is ever open on a Sunday anyway? And, without the element of surprise, what "right-minded terrorist" would go ahead with a plan to attack on a day that everyone has been warned about? :der:

Just agreeing with everyone else here...

It is a Christian tradition to observe Sunday as a holy day, so an embassy in Israel and in any Muslim country would be open on a Sunday (perhaps even in Buddhist countries - I would have to check this). USA embassies in Muslim countries are open on a Sunday.

By the way, I think that releasing partial information like this is scare-mongering in action. Be open and transparent and release all the information (if there is a real terrorist threat then making all the information public would surely indicate to the terrorist that they have been outwitted and thus weakened?) This whole affair smells very fishy.

4th August marks the 27th night of ramadan known as the night of power it is a very important time for Muslims and refers to the time that the first revelation of the quran was sent down to the prophet muhammad. I don't get how they shut down the embassies but the people working their live in the compounds, does that mean they have been evacuated?. Hard to say if anything will happen i spose it's possible considering the date but telling the public about it will not stop the attacks if they are to happen. It almost feels to me like another way to distract the public and fill up news time, but we will have to wait and see i suppose.

Wondering where this puzzle piece fits. HSBC:

HSBC bank has reportedly asked more than 40 diplomatic missions to close their accounts as part of a programme to reduce business risks.

The Vatican's ambassadorial office in Britain, the Apostolic Nunciature, is among those said to be affected.

More answers to "why"'s and hushing up the media:

Intercepted al Qaeda message led to shuttering embassies, consulates
By Chris Lawrence. Barbara Starr and Tom Cohen, CNN
August 4, 2013 -- Updated 1802 GMT (0202 HKT)

(CNN) -- An intercepted message among senior al Qaeda operatives in the last several days raised alarm bells that led to the closing of embassies and consulates Sunday across the Middle East and North Africa, CNN has learned.

CNN has agreed to a request from an Obama administration official not to publish or broadcast additional details because of the sensitivity of the information.

Several U.S. officials also emphasized they have been watching growing threats emerging from Yemen for weeks.

Those threats, combined with the coming end of the month of Ramadan, plus the concern over several major prison breaks in the region, all contributed to the U.S. decision to shut down diplomatic installations.

The shuttering of 22 U.S. embassies and consulates for the day Sunday amid fears of an al Qaeda attack is an unprecedented move.

As White House and national security officials met to discuss the threat, Interpol warned that al Qaeda has been tied to prison breaks that led to the escape of hundreds of terrorists and other criminals.

"We're doing what is necessary to protect our people," Rep. Adam Schiff, a Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, told CNN's "State of the Union."

The embassy closures Sunday stretch across a swath of North Africa and the Middle East, from Mauritania to Oman. Bangladesh and Afghanistan, both majority Muslim nations, also are affected.

Normally, Sunday is the start of the work week in those countries.

The shutdowns could extend beyond Sunday, a senior State Department official said.

A U.S. global travel alert is also in place.

"I think we know a lot more about the when than the where. And you can tell that from the breadth of the closures across North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula," Schiff said. "But the when was very specific in terms of a Sunday. Obviously, that may continue and the closures may continue. The travel warning is more extensive. But this is not the usual kind of chatter, not the more generalized 'death to the Americans' or 'death to great Satan.' "

CNN national security analyst Fran Fragos Townsend said there could be a strategic reason for shutting down the diplomatic offices.

"Once you take targets away, it buys you additional time to try and disrupt, to identify the cell, the operators in country and the region, and work with your partners in the region to try and, you know, get them in custody or disrupt the plot," she said. "So, some of this operationally is about buying time."

Of particular concern is Yemen, where the government is "on high alert against possible attacks in the days to come," said a senior U.S. security official.-------

US to extend some embassy closures for up to a week

The US says it will keep a number of embassies in north Africa and the Middle East closed until Saturday, due to a possible militant threat.

Twenty-one US embassies and consulates closed on Sunday.

The State Department in Washington said the extended closures were "out of an abundance of caution", and not a reaction to a new threat.

US diplomat missions in Algiers, Kabul and Baghdad are among those which will reopen on Monday, Washington said.

But diplomatic posts in Abu Dhabi, Amman, Cairo, Riyadh, Dhahran, Jeddah, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, Manama, Muscat, Sanaa and Tripoli will remain closed until Saturday.

The state department also added African missions in Antananarivo, Bujumbura, Djibouti, Khartoum, Kigali and Port Louis to the list, meaning a total of 19 US embassies will be closed this week.

A state department global travel alert, issued on Friday, is in force until the end of August.

The department said the potential for an al-Qaeda inspired attack was particularly strong in the Middle East and North Africa.

Embassies closed on Sunday, a working day in the Muslim world, included Amman, Cairo, Riyadh and Dhaka.

From http://beforeitsnews.com/tea-party/2013/08/doug-hagmann-the-embassy-threat-proxy-war-2498538.html:

Doug Hagmann: The Embassy Threat, Proxy War
Sunday, August 4, 2013 12:34

There is one thing certain about the publicized threat to our embassies; it is not what it is presented to be. To accept the official explanation of a nebulous threat from al Qaeda as the reason for closing our embassies across the Middle East and North Africa is being dangerously naive and simplistic.

How we arrived hereThis is much more serious than what we are being told, but not for the reasons we are being given. We are seeing the consequences of a longrunning “Cold War” on two major fronts of political conflict that could escalate into military engagement with proxy nations of world super powers. The world, and life as we know it, could change in an instant should we awaken one morning to the news of bombs flying across the Middle East. That is a very real possibility, as we are now in a heightened proxy war environment. We are standing in a thick forest of dry tinder, and the smallest of sparks could ignite a conflagration the likes of which we have never before seen.

...
Benghazi exposed

It was shortly after the September 11, 2012 attack in Benghazi that I wrote in explicit detail the actual reason for that attack. Thanks to a highly placed source in the intelligence venue, readers learned the truth ten months before the corporate media finally acknowledged that the compound in Benghazi was the operations center for a large CIA weapons smugglin… where Libya was being used as a weaponsstorage depot to arm the anti-Assad “rebels.”

...
The continued pressure of possibly exposing the true nature of the activities in Benghazi, from the illegal arms trafficking in violation of international law to the attack itself, became a serious annoyance to the globalist planners and the Obama subjects to the Saudi royals. The assistance to the anti-Assad rebels was interrupted, albeit temporarily, by this exposure. Consequently, the plans for Syria did not go off as intended, and the timetable had to be extended. Now the anti-Assad rebels are “on the ropes,” and they are being beaten with every passing day, having lost much of the covert assistance of the CIA.

This is the reason the true account of Benghazi has yet to be told to the American people, and the reason that the official accounts are continually being pushed in place of the truth.

Today

If you have understood how we arrived here by the short summary provided, then you will see that we are standing on the brink of not just a regional war, but a global war. Those in power do not want you to know their plans until there is nothing anyone can do to stop them.

It is vital to understand that the embassy closures are a signal of the rapidly escalated intervention in the region by the US.

...
Our involvement in the Middle East and North Africa is so large that it would be difficult not to telegraph our actions in advance. Therefore, is it possible that the unspecified al Qaeda threat is actually a cover story for some anticipated action in the region?

We are watching brinkmanship at multiple levels on a global chess board. We have done much to destabilize whatever relative peace might have existed in the Middle East through our actions at the hands of our globalist power brokers. Russia, Iran, Syria and China are not amused, and are not looking the other way. The time clock for the anti-Assad rebels is quickly running out. This administration and every elected official who has signed on to do the work of the Saudis and their handlers have painted us into a corner from which there is little hope for escape. We cannot trust anything we are being told, and nothing we are being told even remotely approaches the truth.

We are seeing the beginnings of the transformation from a cold war to a hot war at the nation-state level. We are about to see a trigger event, after which nothing will be the same.
