I have always been a vivid dreamer both while asleep and awake. Sometimes I fly, sometimes I have battles in the galaxy on organic ships that seem to come into existence as I think them up, I have died completely on several occasions, I see aliens, I talk to animals, and I am an awesome rally car driver who seems to narrowly escape death at every turn. However, the one of recurring dream that always puzzles me are these fish flying in the air dreams.
It usually starts with the fish being in some kind of tank. The tank is always very large and I have the sense that it belongs to me. Often I am cleaning the tank or moving it from one place to another or somehow caring for the tank. On a few occasions, the tank is just in the room I am in.
Most of these dreams include a portion of the dream where I introduce the fish to the tank. Sometimes they are fish I already have, but more often, they are new fish that I buy in my dream. They are all tropical colorful fish and they come in many different shapes and sizes. I am sometimes looking for a specific fish that the shop keeper doesn't seem to have and I always feel annoyed about that. I am not sure what that fish looks like because he never has it. I call it the mystery fish. I know that is is spotted, colorful and ornate but only because as I am looking at the other fish I think to myself things like, "that one is to plain, that one isn't bright enough, that one is only one color with no spots."
When I get the fish back to the tank and put them in, I sit and watch them swimming around their new home. Within moments, the walls of the tank fade into nothingness and the fish begin to swim around the room. They swim in the air as if it is water. I am very sure they are in the air and that I have not joined them in the water. It is that point that fascinates me. I walk around looking at them act as if they are in their natural habitat, but they are swimming around the bed, under the table, up to the ceiling and all around me. Most of these dreams do include a larger fish who will eat one or two of the smaller fish. It never seems to upset me, though I usually think that next time I should buy similarly sized fish.
I never feel fearful that the fish are out of the water. I somehow know they like it and are happier than they were in the confines of the tank. None of the fish act aggressively toward me, I feel that they accept me as a necessary part of their environment, like they want to be near me. I am always pleased with the fish I chose and think I should go get more fish. I like them and I like watching them swim all over the place. I feel joy and curiosity.
I have my own idea as to what I think these dreams mean, but I am curious what interpretations others might have. Please feel free to share any thoughts or ideas that come to you, even if they seem silly or far fetched, or if you have never interpreted a dream before. :o
