Managers of a New Jersey shop had to search for four teens who were captured on surveillance cameras entering the store even though it was closed at the time.

A malfunctioning lock left the door open to anyone who wanted to walk in.

These guys nabbed a few items but they also left the money - plus tax - on the counter.

After seeing the surveillance video, the managers wanted to find the teens to offer a reward for their honesty.

;)

Just when you thought the world was going to hell in a hand basket, news items like this remind us that the world can, and is still a beautiful place.

-------

In Switzerland, almost every farm has a little store of fresh produce (home-baked bread, fruit, jams, honey, cheese, eggs, raw milk etc). Most of them are very small, but a few are actually quite large, like a real shop.

They're usually by the road at the driveway entrance, and are almost always unmanned, open night and day. There's always a little honesty box, and a notepad where people make a note of what they've bought. There's never any problem.

Several times when I was living there I'd pick something up late at night and then realize I didn't have quite enough money. I made a note of that, and the next morning returned to make up the balance. It's the way the world should be.

Same in Japan (As Switzerland), We have local fresh vegetables on the street without any vendors just a small safety box where you can put your money after you choose and calculate by yourself the total / amount of vegetables you are taking with you. To be a honesty person is independent of a society you live in, it is just up to everyone of us (individually).

I've seen a lot of these little 'Honor Stands' in Hawaii, and they are also all over the place in our little California community. I prefer to shop at them because I am purchasing something locally grown, supporting my community, and the produce is always very fresh. Sometimes I leave a little extra money as a gesture of support for the grower... and sometimes I am short of funds so I go back the next day and put more money in the little metal box. Mostly the money boxes are not even attached and someone could just take the whole thing if they wanted to be dishonest.

It is my opinion that most people are loving, kind, and respectful of others.

I've seen a lot of those on Avalon, but since the time is adjusted for each time zone (I see 09:11), the chances of it happening and someone notice are greater than in "real life".

And back on topic ... I'm moving ... perhaps Switzerland or maybe Japan ... ;)
I long for a world where everyone is just simple honest. If we all could utilize telepathy, it would be so.

How synchronous. My neighbor just came back on a camping trip from Pennsylvania several hrs ago today. He stayed on a campground there. Firewood could be purchased in the camping ground but its not that cheap. When he left the grounds to purchase grocerys he noticed there was firewood for sale on a vacant lot with no attendant. The note said on all the different piles of wood along with the prices. We work on the honor system here. Whatever you purchase please place the money in an envelope provided and place it in the wooden box. He purchased his much more affordable wood and left the money as described. It brought a smile to my face. Very cool indeed. Maybe there is some hope for primitive man. Ill let the ETs know when i get the chance. ;)

The teens said they didn't think they did anything special,

*******

this is normal and everywhere. Bad acts are simply blown out/ publisized.

Guess who wants us to think that we humans are a******e and that this world is F****. Even in this forum we can clearly observe who are promoting the negatives.

very inspiring, I plan to turn most of my 2 acres here in the carabiean into garden and fruit trees; hopefully to the point of excess.

if I succeed I will definitely open an unmanned "honesty" stand like this (though I may cheat and put in a few hidden cameras just out of curiosity) I live in an area that is economically depressed (but it seems the question "who isn't" is valid right now) but also extremely polite and "positive" I bet this would be a great success... I'd make it a point to sell as cheap as possible, maybe just above covering my costs (i've found you always need a bit more than costs for when things go sour, equipment failures and such..) and pay my children to work/stock the "store" as a lesson in industriousness and trust in humanity.

Thanks for the inspiring post!
