A nice CME was picked up on the STEREO Ahead Coronagraph images and took place early in the day Friday. This was a farside event and will have no impact on earth. Solar activity has been at very low levels the past 24 hours. Sunspot 1109 remains a decent sized sunspot, but has not produced any large solar flares. Sunspot 1110 continues decay and Sunspot 1111 remains small and quiet as well.

Yes, artefact's are common on the SOHO images due to a number of things. The weather in SOHO's orbital path can be quite harsh at times with the craft sitting in the line of fire during solar storms, CME's etc. Sometimes the images are of actual objects that pass in front or behind the Sun. Mercury and Venus are often seen in these images but appear much brighter. The "pearls" could be comets, asteroids, or GFL ships that got to close. ;)
