An underwater pyramidal structure was identified at a depth of 40 meters of the coast of Terceira Island. The perfectly squared structure was sighted by a private yacht owner, Diocleciano Silva, during a recreational trip.

Estimated to be approximately 60 meters high, the enigmatic structure was recorded through CPS digital technology. “The pyramid is perfectly shaped and apparently oriented by the cardinal directions,” Silva told Diário Insular, the local newspaper.

Fascinating. From the YouTube text:

Researchers have discovered an underwater pyramid 60 meters high and 8000 meters square base near the Bank De João de Castro, between the islands of Terceira and São Miguel. The structure was identified by the sailor Diocleciano Smith based on bathymetry readings. The author does not believe that the pyramid is of natural origin. The Government says that the matter is already being investigated with the support of the Portuguese Navy.

Nautical charts before the “official” discovery identified islands in the Atlantic Ocean as far back as 1325, when a chart by Angelino Dalorto identified “Bracile” west of Ireland, and later one by Angelino Dulcert which identifies the Canaries, and Madeira, along with mysterious islands denominated as “Capraria” (whom some historians suggest were São Miguel and Santa Maria).
An old friend & number cruncher diarised this..Height is 60 meters. Remember I did not make this up.
60 meters is 60 x 39.37 = 2362.2 inches
2362.2 divided by cubit we calculated of 20.6144002346 and we get 114.5897999998657695606707185786 cubits
But now interestingly this number this 114.5897999998657695606707185786 multiplied by Pi gives us 359.99
Either it is really there or someone likes numbers as much as I do and is playing with my head..;)
With his boat sonar, the discovery was made by a Portuguese sailor named Diocleciano Silva(also a veterinary) , five months ago, when he was searching for fishing grounds on Açores islands (Between S. Miguel and Terceira Island).
He has able to measure the size of the pyramid ,located about 40meters from the water surface, with an height of 60 meters and an base of 8000 square meters (aprox. 90x90 m).

English version follows..
http://portuguese-american-journal.com/terceira-subaquatic-pyramidal-shaped-structure-found-azores/

If it had been man made I guess after thousands of years under the waves I would have expected more erosion showing on sonar, which I guess leads neatly too...
The Regional Secretary of Education, Luiz Fagundes Duarte believes that, taking into account the location is in investigated and monitored area, one should not treat it as human work (meaning natural formations).

Bahh! i wanted too wave my "cover up" banner really I did ;)

Looking into the Azores I came across this article on the Ancient Wisdom website -

http://www.ancient-wisdom.co.uk/portoazores.htm

Interesting to note that it has ancient cart ruts and megalithic sites as well.

Graham Hancock -

Looks like I might need to get my wetsuit on again! I wasn't planning any further diving research for the sequel to Fingerprints of the Gods but if this checks out I'm there! In general what we know about rising sea levels at the end of the last Ice Age (see my book Underworld for detail) tells us that lands now under 40 metres/130 feet of water were submerged more than 12,500 years ago.

Hi Murray et al,
I think the term "cart ruts" might be fanciful conjecture as indeed you cited yourself reasons of how they possibly were not.
That said I do believe pre-occupation of those land masses as it makes so much sense doesn't it.
There are some major developments in pressurised depth geo phys the appliance of which I am watching intently but sheez the waiting is so frustrating & I am with you with your line of interest.

The pyramid that is located near the Azores Islands is remnants from the era of Atlantis. Atlantis stretched across the Atlantic Ocean as most will know. Good find!

There are pyramids located all over the earth not just there.

Graham Hancock is quite excited about this too. This is from his most recent newsletter:

"An apparently man-made pyramid oriented to the cardinal directions has been identified by sonar at a depth of approximately 40 metres (130 feet) under water off the Azores islands. See here for a video (Portuguese commentary) of the discovery: http://videos.sapo.pt/9j3fd6z5h8cVMiBr5sUa. The location is between Sao Miguel and Terceira (the biggest Azorean Islands) and it also lies close to this underwater volcano: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dom_Jo%C3%A3o_de_Castro_Bank.

Many thanks to Pedro Branco, Eduardo Costa, Viviana Lopes, Daniel Mendes, Jo Anne Taisbin and others who have messaged me to tell me about this. The name of the discoverer, featured in the video, is Diocleciano Silva. According to the video the discovery was made five months ago but there has been minimal international coverage up to now. Eduardo Costa and Daniel Mendes both sent me a link to this short article on the subject in English: http://gregdougall.wordpress.com/2013/09/21/an-undersea-pyramid-has-just-been-discovered-in-the-azores/. Pedro Branco has just sent me two further links: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=c16_1380022655&comments=1
and: http://beforeitsnews.com/beyond-science/2013/09/giant-underwater-pyramid-found-near-azores-island-associated-with-atlantis-portuguese-navy-investigating-2443658.html. The latter story states that the Portuguese navy is investigating.

Looks like I might need to get my wetsuit on again! I wasn't planning any further diving research for the sequel to Fingerprints of the Gods but if this checks out I'm there! In general what we know about rising sea levels at the end of the last Ice Age (see my book Underworld for detail) tells us that lands now under 40 metres/130 feet of water were submerged more than 12,500 years ago."

130 ft...wow I am very surprised this has not been discovered sooner. Perhaps it was and kept under raps?

Hi Bill and all,

Sorry but that quote is not true.
There was a request made to the Regional Secretary of Culture to ask for the help of the navy, which hasn't been answered yet.

Update: Navy investigates underwater 'pyramid' in the Azores

The Hydrographic Institute of the Portuguese Navy is analyzing the data that underlie the discovery of a "pyramid" underwater 60 meters high eight thousand square meters base, between the islands of São Miguel and Terceira in the Azores.

According to the commander of the Maritime Zone of Azores, Rear Admiral Fernando Pires da Cunha, the discovery of the sailor who sailed near the Bank D. João de Castro necessitates "analysis" to assess its "authenticity."

Fernando Pires da Cunha reminded the SOL that the map of the sea of the Azores was updated two years ago and, at this time, "no structure was identified" with the features that Diocletian Silva, Azorean sailor, says he found.

"At the time we seek probes that could constitute a danger to navigation and found nothing. We did a quite extensive map and, we believe, complete. Yet, we analyze the data," said the commander.

Also according to Fernando Pires da Cunha, the Hydrographic Office is awaiting information about the device that made bathymetric reading from the boat of Diocletian Silva and other data that the sailor says he has in its possession.

As it is a volcanic zone, it is not ruled out the "pyramid" being an elevation of the ground.

Cdt. Fernando Pires da Cunha reports on Portuguese TV: "The pyramid detected between Terceira and São Miguel is not the work of man, but rather a mountain range". (source (http://videos.sapo.pt/4ZeL4bIIsVFCdsBK4btn))

29 October 2013:

The Correio dos Acores interviewed Fernando Tempera, researcher at the University of the Azores, who said that the alleged pyramids did not exist and did not pass the reading of incorrect data of the navigation chart of a sailor.

Fernando Tempera made clear that "there is no mystery" of the pyramids . "It was all conjecture [...] it was found that those forms did not even exist on the seabed [...] all this was then clarified by the Portuguese Hydrographic Institute of the Navy itself who found that these pyramids do not exist."

Asked if the pyramids were an invention of the sailor Fernando Tempera said no. In reality, explained the researcher, the sailor, when accessing his electronic navigation chart, found what looked like a pyramid represented in the system."

But he concluded, "it was an artifact of the bathymetry, of the photograph that had served as the basis for the production of the electronic chart. Then he was to see the data that the Hydrographic Office has about the area that show nothing of it. It was erroneous data that was on the navigation chart system and that created a structure that seemed indeed a pyramid, but who was actually an artifact of the system", he added.
