I am thinking about registering a domain name for an idea I have and I was wondering if anyone has any useful tips?
Like with who or how should I register it, what to be careful of, that sort of thing.
Likewise the web page, how can it be done in the least complicated way. I am just starting to look into this and I am a complete newbie.
I found this guy, thesitewizard.com, that seems very informative. Has anyone heard of this site before? Is it reliable? Any better sites?
I searched the name I want and it is available, I thought I should just grab it while it is there but then I thought, nah, no one is going to use that name. It is only relavent to me. Is $10/year a reasonable price?
This idea is just forming so I do not know exactly what it is going to look like in the end but right now I'm just assembling some information. Then I'll see from there.
I'd appreciate any feedback you might think useful.

$10/year is a reasonable price to register a domain name. I recommend registering them "early and often", as soon as one has a pretty good idea one might be interested in it. I recommend using namecheap.com, but there are other good Internet domain registrars as well.
Be careful not to make your intended name visible before registering it, to avoid someone grabbing it first and trying to resell it to you.
I also recommend registering names at a different company than one uses to host the server. Server hosting is a bit more complicated and expensive, and now and then one really needs to move to a new host. This is much easier to do if you separately control the domain name.
I've moved my servers twice now; on my third hosting service. All I have to do to move is to setup the new server, copy it over, tell namecheap to redirect my names to the new server, and then tell the older server company to take a hike.

I think I'll register it just in case I decide to do this thing. It's only 10 bucks.

I like your idea Ernie but there are more costs usually associated with a site and best wishes on your plan.

Vista print for the blog site, cheaper, and has a template to work with color and headers and such.
Godspeed on your creation.

Gotta go help some red state voters with their selection of a "good people Republican selection." I gave them some questions to ask their candidates to begin the vetting processes. They will latch on and start digging like we did this President, and they will start the long process, that democratic voters did in 2004 after the war in Iraq lie, and remove those corporate boils causing American citizens a pain in their American Dream.
Parasites and leeches are attached in the Houses. Time to remove them. If they fight this hard for the corporations against US, there's no reason to keep them working for US.

I see that I am in wrong business. I should sell something too for 10$ no matter will it be used later :)
On your place I would rather go test things first.
For exmple wordpress is excelent playground to get you familiar, easy to use and setup. It is free with some limitations, but for some $$ you can get all the neaty features.
Wix is not bad too, it is more like web pages while wordpress is setup more like blog (advanced blog) principe.
Making web pages from ground zero takes time and learning. which i see many people of alternative media doesn't realise so when i try to read "valuable" info.. It hurts my eyes.
CMS is most important part for newbies in webpages, it allows you to manage your web page with less pain than usual. And those two I named have a good one.

I run my website for like 28$ every 6 months (or something) through webstarts there's a ton of good companies out there with very simpile HTML editors already included making web page creation super easy. I've used hostdango before with good success also, but like I said... MANY fish in this sea.

Hey mate,
You should try wix.com
It's an excellent and very intuitive online website building tool, based on HTML5 technology. You don't need to know code to make a nice and clean website.
If you buy one of its premium plans, which are very affordable, you'll get your personal domain included (if the desired address is available) and a fair amount of storage space and bandwidth.
They have a really good forum based support system as well.
Give it a try. my friend. I'm sure you'll like it.

Hi Ernie
Ten dollars is good price, Paul is right..........if your serious purchase the domain name(s) right away. Waiting can be a mistake. Also just as a point of interest, you should also register the same name with facebook just before or after you register the domain name. Facebook is a good way to promote a new site. When a domain name is purchased that list is put out to the public, people will view the list and register the same name on facebook. They will then attempt to sell you the rights to the facebook name. Just fyi
Also if money is a huge issue with you check out blogs, many of these services are totally free and there are either no monthly charges or minimal monthly charges. Virtually all these have "plugins" so you can easily add photos, videos, links to other info etc.

Hi Ernie,
whatever you do avoid options such as vistaprint, or wix or any other short-cut option if you are serious about building a website which you have complete control over-no offence to the advisers, it depends what you want to achieve.
Why should you listen to me? Well I operate a Web services company, I have 20 years experience as a qualified I.T Engineer and I do a lot of online development, and Internet marketing, offline consulting-that is not bragging, it is just what I do.
If you want some help with your project, PM me and I'll give you the best options.
Cheers

well there is one important point when it comes to registering a website, if you just reg a site at a common providerpage that site will be registered and run under your name /address / phone etc.
its called "whois lookup"
can be tried on this page -> http://whois.domaintools.com/
if you decide not to show your whole data its also possible to contact the provider before you register it, so they can handle it for you and your data stays hidden for the public eye.
i hope this will help you

i would highly reccommend getting a domain and hosting package with bluehost, they are a terrific company very high tech and down to earth, once your domain is assigned install to it wordpress via the control panel options from there on it you should learn as you go, pm me if you have more questions.

Thanks for all the input, it is greatly appreciated. Still working on the idea and it is still in its infancy. I will do more research before I decide on things. It has various levels and they are hard to integrate into the package I want to deliver, both as a service and as a means to awaken or at least make aware those most mired in the dream our leaders have weaved for us.
So as thanks, here's a tune...
