A Western Shame: The Legend of Dirty Harry

I can hardly believe my eyes. Two US Marine Corp Generals have been relieved of duty because the air base where Prince Harry was stationed fell under Taliban attack.

Only a handful of US forces were killed and injured, but the Towelies were successful in destroying some aircraft. Apparently Prince Harry's chopper was there and OMG they rushed him away to freaking safety and later blamed two top marine generals for a lack of perimeter security.

It's not uncommon for air bases to fall under mortar attack and checkpoint raids, but JHC, anyone there is already briefed and should be ready to defend their own asses... I don't get it. I had to read the last sentences of this article before I realized what really happened to these generals....

why the hell was Harry even there, if he's too precious for combat... sorry but seriously.

LOL @ air power. JHC.

Two Marine generals lose their jobs over deadly Taliban attack
By Barbara Starr

In an action unprecedented during 12 years of war in Afghanistan, the commandant of the Marine Corps is firing two top generals for failing to protect troops and their base in southern Afghanistan from a Taliban attack.

Marine Commandant Gen. James Amos, has agreed to a finding that Maj. Gen. Charles M. Gurganus and Maj. Gen. Gregg A. Sturdevant "did not take adequate force protection measures" at Camp Bastion last year, the service said on Monday.

On September 14-15, 2012, Taliban fighters got through an unguarded part of a fence and engaged in a long running gun battle with U.S. and coalition forces.

Two Marines were killed and eight other personnel were wounded. Six aircraft were destroyed by the Taliban, the largest loss of Marine aircraft since the Vietnam War.

There were three investigations of the incident, two of which Gurganus ran, according to a Marine Corps official. But Amos then asked U.S. Central Command for an independent probe. Central Command recommended both generals leave the corps and Amos accepted it.

Amos has recommended to Navy Secretary Ray Mabus that Gurganus's promotion to lieutenant general, currently on hold in the Senate, be rescinded. He also recommended that Sturdevant receive a letter of censure from Mabus.

Both men have been told to submit their retirement letters.

In a statement, the Marines said Amos praised the generals for pursuing the U.S. combat goals, but "concluded that the commanders, in overseeing the camp's force-protection plan, did not exercise the level of judgment expected of general officers."

Amos made a subtle reference to the question of whether the Marines had enough manpower on hand." While I am mindful of the degree of difficulty the Marines in Afghanistan faced in accomplishing a demanding combat mission with a rapidly declining force, my duty requires me to remain true to the timeless axioms relating to command responsibility and accountability," Amos wrote in endorsing the investigation's findings. "Responsibility and accountability are the sacred tenets of commandership."

Amos found Gurganus "made an error in judgment when conducting his risk assessment of the enemy's capabilities and intentions."

He also found Sturdevant, who commanded the aviation unit, failed to protect the airfield properly.

The airfield was operated by British forces but Sturdevant remained responsible for using U.S. Marines who were assigned to protect personnel and aircraft.

Britain's Prince Harry was with his Apache helicopter crew at the time of the attack but was moved to a secure area, officials said at the time.

Prince Harry might know just what went wrong in last August's photo scandal involving his naked antics in Las Vegas.

"It was probably a classic example of me probably being too much army, and not enough prince. It's a simple case of that," he said during an interview at his military base in Afghanistan.

Harry, 28, was partying in the hotspot just before he was deployed to Afghanistan, when embarrassing photographs of him were released.

"At the end of the day I probably let myself down, I let my family down, I let other people down," he said. "But at the end of the day I was in a private area and there should be a certain amount of privacy that one should expect."

"Back home all my close friends rallied round me and were great," he added.

The furor highlighted not only the issue of privacy but the difficulties of being a prince and taking part in normal life.

I'd like to point out that my first blog post back in 2010 or 2011 expressed a certain level of disgust for the Royal Family.
Before anyone here knew about or cared about the new Royal baby or wedding or anything, I was furious.

I was mad that I'd been banned from a US truth site (maybe russian actually LOL) by a BRITISH moderator.
It seemed unconstitutional and inappropriate for a site about US concerns to be policed by such a person.

this is NOT a rant about avalon in the slightest. i am talking about a political garbage site where people really are profiled and sheep dipped IRT.

But I found it ironic that two years ago or more, I was eaten up by such inexplicable rage on account of this snobbery, and now look at how our military is dragged through the mud because some frat boy almost got his butt in the sling when things got hot.

i think royals and the like should not be allowed in the military in the first place.
they don't let rich people stay in, why should royals get the royal treatment there???

"I got street cred" ~Harry

Gen Amos is the one who needs to go – he is dismantling the Corps like crazy – and breaking laws to CRUSH Marines (his words). How our President allows this illegal Gen Amos to keep operating is beyond me. One of his own prosecutors turned him in for breaking the law – and below is the article out today on what the General's henchmen are doing to that poor guy. WAKE UP America! Your kids are not safe with this General in command!

As a "subject" of the "British Commonwealth" I fail to see why any members of this spoiled, rich, inbred, "Royal Family" deserve any public support at all.
If Harry has to be hustled away when the action gets even slightly warm, he's much more of a liability than an asset in a war zone.

Not that Afghanistan should be a war zone anyway.

Sorry, but the whole bunch of èm just pi** me off.

so it's the general fault if the enemy decides to attack some place where they heard the prince is ??? He can go to war but, no one is allowed to shoot at him I guess ... I thought everyone loved the Royal Family ...

They are all a bunch of lazy f'tards and need someone to tie their shoelaces. Just look at who they hang out with. Charles has been photographed on many occasions with that pedophile Jimmy Saville. What does that tell you about their character?

They have to be given a "fake" past by giving them "fake" experience, like pretending he is a soldier in the military, so that when they go on to be fleece the sheep, they have their "fake" image to lean, it's all sales & marketing grooming techniques... to maximize the revenues coming into their future 'charities' and 'fund raisers', otherwise he would end up looking like the pathetic frat, party boy Kim Jong Il ...EXPOSED - for the real farce that his presence is... I guess we have to thank the Taliban for showing pulling back the curtain on this one...

Also shows how paranoid the Royals really are... not even taking a chance... assuming that the Generals are in on it... the message is clear...

Wouldn't surprise me to see the castle stormed and these vile vampires eaten alive. things WILL get bad enough for this to happen.

I'm with you totally. I've always been confused by royal families. Why does the general public kiss their pale white behinds and bow down to them?! BOW DOWN!!! Just because they were lucky enough to be squirted out of a royal vagina? Simply amazing that in the year 2013 we still submit to divine right.

Conk, that was hilarious.
I know this thread is a bit hateful, but like people say, feelings are real.

@_@ I find that talking about it makes me feel less upset inside.

p.s. I wonder if former ambassador to Uzbek, Craig Murray, could tell the public whether or not "Prince" Harry squatter had to take MEFLOQUINE while stationed near there, or if he got some kind of SPECIAL WAIVER because the drug causes insanity.

Of course, he was already insane, but still...

Was Robert Bales given anti-malaria drug known to cause psychotic episodes? Pentagon 'ordered emergency review of drug nine days after Afghan massacre'
Order issued in 2009 saying soldiers who have suffered traumatic brain injuries - like Bales - should not be given the drug Mefloquine
Side effects include paranoia, hallucinations and psychotic behaviour
Army will not confirm if Bales had taken the drug prior to March 11 incident

British soldiers are being put at risk of developing psychosis by taking an anti-malarial drug that has been banned by the US military, it is claimed. Mefloquine, also known as Lariam, has been linked to a number of suicides and murders among troops, with the US Food and Drug Administration advising against those with a history of depression from taking it.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said it continued to prescribe mefloquine on the advice of Public Health England. He said the MoD participated in the Medicines Healthcare Regulation Agency's "Yellow Card scheme", where all adverse reactions to any medication are reported directly to the MHRA, which is responsible for investigating any claims.

But a former senior medical officer accused the MoD of ignoring repeated warnings over the dangers of the drug.
