"The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don’t alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit their views. Which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering."- Tom Baker aka Dr Who

It is becoming noticeable that more and more people are developing a kind of 'Internet intelligence' - in regards to the information presented to them on the web - in such a way that is unique in human social and media development. There are still plenty who are hysterical and believe all they read, but the more rational ones develop a neutral relationship with the Internet and come to realise - almost on an intuitive level - if the information presented is that of demented irrational minds driven by their own neurosis, or the words of credible and decent people.

No need to regulate the Internet or curtail freedom of speech. The Internet is still in very early embryonic stages and it's a mountain of both **** and gold all mixed in together. People are developing new cognitive skill sets to distinguish between the **** and the gold and the **** will eventually vanish into obscurity over time. The human knowledge tree has always evolved along these lines. Wisdom is a progressive force of nature and all the hype and hysteria will never smoother this.

In fact, you can see this emerging 'Internet Intelligence' within the alternative world. The more paranoid and stark raving bonkers conspiracy news sites are losing readership as people grow up and move on. The individuals and organisations behind these sites can't evolve, as they are not wired too. All they understand is paranoia and hysteria. Their own extinction will be their quarry. They gorge on the fears and energy of others. People in the alternative scene are no longer allowing themselves to be their food.

Individuals who partake in Internet witch hunts in the modern era are no more 'enlightened' and 'awake' than the uneducated and fearful peasantry of the Middle Ages were during past witch hunts, and these people today are driven by the same ignorance and superstitions as their ancestors were back then.

They are still no more capable of measured thinking and restrained critical thought processes than a plague-ravaged serf would of been capable of doing 800 years ago, or indeed 100 years ago. The same personality types are still with us and the pathological leaders are eager to manipulate and whip up these easily-led types up into witch hunts for their own benefit are as busy as ever.

The Value of Keeping Your Mouth Shut

Your inaction speaks louder than words when dealing with psychopaths and other collectives under the control of a pathological structure. They'll further expose themselves to the world with their smear campaigns. You must remain silent. Psychopaths have trouble putting the brakes on when they start attacking you. They are betting you'll sink to the same rathole level as them.

NEVER DO THIS.

The psychopaths want you to fight back as it creates confusion in the minds of neutral observers. If you keep your mouth shut, or better still, stay out of sight for a while they will provide others with all the proof they need that's it's not you who is what they are claiming you are - but them. Keep your mouth shut and let them show the world their true nature.

They will just go lower and more vicious until they are advertising their own dysfunctional state to every neutral observer. Your job is to assist them in their public self-destruction with NCEA ["no contact ever again"]. Psychopaths are not aware that healthy and socially adjusted people view smear campaigns with suspicion. Because a psychopath has no decency, they make the fatal mistake of thinking this is how others behave. Hysterical and unstable types might fall for the smear campaign initially - but these types tend to lose interest and get bored. Everyone else, after their initial confusion, eventually comes to see that the socially abnormal vindictiveness, hysteria and paranioa is only coming from the pathological side. Decent and intelligent people will be able to see the truth more clearly if you remain silent and the psychopaths/unstable types are doing all the smearing.

Hi Dianna,
You bring some very interesting info forward...thoughtful funny weird fresh....Thanks.

I heard Thomas Sheridan in 2011 on Redice when he talked about confronting "psychopathology" in a way that helped me very much.

The main message about "No Contact Ever Again" means to me that because we have certain inclinations and needs, we continuously invite these influences. Also, even when there is no psychopath, just someone difficult, being a normal and loving human does not mean we have to keep being involved. Boundaries, Boundaries, Boundaries....a great energetic capacity to be sovereign unto self is not being unfeeling. This is such a huge learning for all embodied beings...what is ours and what is others and how to navigate intact.

Thomas Sheridan says that there are only about 4% psychopaths but the traits are widely encouraged in the First World. WE have to know better. And we can!!!!
Here is a recent interview that your post led me to hear.

To the narcissist, the Internet is an alluring and irresistible combination of playground and hunting grounds, the gathering place of numerous potential Sources of Narcissistic Supply, a world where false identities are the norm and mind games the bon ton. And it is beyond the reach of the law, the pale of social norms, the strictures of civilized conduct.

Indeed, many of the innovators who gave us the Internet and social networks can easily be described as narcissistic. Technology did not invent or even foster narcissism – rather, it was driven by it: an increasingly narcissistic populace demanded empowerment, self-expression, self-gratification, and self-aggrandisement via gadgets and software applications that catered to its pathology.

The cerebral claims false accomplishments, fake skills, erudition and talents. Both, if minimally communicative, end up at the instantly gratifying epicenter of a cult of fans, followers, stalkers, erotomaniacs, denigrators, and plain nuts. The constant attention and attendant quasi-celebrity feed and sustain their grandiose fantasies and inflated self-image.

The Internet is an extension of the real-life Narcissistic Pathological Space but without its risks, injuries, and disappointments. In the virtual universe of the Web, the narcissist vanishes and reappears with ease, often adopting a myriad aliases and nicknames. He (or she) can thus fend off criticism, abuse, disagreement, and disapproval effectively and in real time – and, simultaneously, preserve the precarious balance of his infantile personality. Narcissists are, therefore, prone to Internet addiction.

The positive characteristics of the Net are largely lost on the narcissist. He is not keen on expanding his horizons, fostering true relationships, or getting in real contact with other people. The narcissist is forever the provincial because he filters everything through the narrow lens of his addiction. He measures others – and idealizes or devalues them – according to one criterion only: how useful they might be as Sources of Narcissistic Supply.

The Internet is an egalitarian medium where people are judged by the consistency and quality of their contributions rather than by the content or bombast of their claims. But the narcissist is driven to distracting discomfiture by a lack of clear and commonly accepted hierarchy (with himself at the pinnacle). He fervently and aggressively tries to impose the "natural order" – either by monopolizing the interaction or, if that fails, by becoming a major disruptive influence.

But the Internet may also be the closest many narcissists get to psychodynamic therapy. Because it is still largely text-based, the Web is populated by disembodied entities. By interacting with these intermittent, unpredictable, ultimately unknowable, ephemeral, and ethereal voices – the narcissist is compelled to project unto them his own experiences, fears, hopes, and prejudices.

Transference (and counter-transference) are quite common on the Net and the narcissist's defence mechanisms – notably projection and Projective Identification – are frequently aroused. The therapeutic process is set in motion by the – unbridled, uncensored, and brutally honest - reactions to the narcissist's repertory of antics, pretensions, delusions, and fantasies.

The narcissist – ever the intimidating bully – is not accustomed to such resistance. Initially, it may heighten and sharpen his paranoia and lead him to compensate by extending and deepening his grandiosity. Some narcissists withdraw altogether, reverting to the schizoid posture. Others become openly antisocial and seek to subvert, sabotage, and destroy the online sources of their frustration. A few retreat and confine themselves to the company of adoring sycophants and unquestioning groupies.

I appreciated the Tom Baker / Doctor Who quote at the top. He was always my favorite of the Doctors.

The Internet has been a fabulous place to learn about boundaries!
I think the Net is addictive not only to Narcissists, but for example, to information junkies as well and people who are curious about the world but have little access to it other than through the Net, both of which categories I fall under.

And though this is not exactly on subject, there are some wonderful videos on this youtube page of early automatons, which I have always found fascinating:

Here's one:

and another here that I posted recently (post # 158):

It's interesting to me that the mainstream view has long been that automatons were among the first ingenious mechanisms that mankind ever created, but the reality, as some of us now know, is that there was also some very sophisticated technology on the planet in ages past.
I think the more modern day automatons helped to reawaken ancient memories of those times in some of us, and that's probably one reason why they are still regarded with a certain fascination.
Perhaps the fascination is in part also due to buried memories of interactions with synthetic beings who seem human, but are actually cloned or manufactured in some other way.
Perhaps some of those narcissists that we encounter online these days are actually synthetic beings.
That is something that was predicted would be happening on the planet for awhile now, according to the Wingmakers material, and I actually think I may have encountered one of those beings at one point, so I would not be surprised if that is the case...
