Perhaps “bubblehead” is a little harsh. In truth, Maria Bartiromo is in fact quite smart. But after watching the following video, I’m reminded of a classic observation by Upton Sinclair: “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it” – or, in this case, woman.

Long gone are the go-go years of the 1990s NASDAQ bubble and Joey Ramone’s ode to Ms. pouty lips. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbJxMd3Pls8) Now that the financial system operates much like a casino, it’s truly astounding the mental gymnastics reporters perform to avoid truth telling. Oh well… At least there’s controlled fleecing, order and nice drinks in a casino.
For nearly a decade, Matt Taibbi’s investigative journalism for the Rolling Stone has been among the very best on finance anywhere. Long ago, there was a time when Maria Bartiromo actually earned the respect of fellow journalists. She was more than just a pretty face. In the early to mid 1990s, before the bubble got to her head, she produced insightful, investigative pieces. Today, as CNBC’s ratings crash to a 20 year low (http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-08-28/cnbc-core-viewership-drops-fresh-20-year-low-worst-nearly-inception), it’s sad seeing this once great reporter circling the wagons around conventional wisdom and in defense of the companies that represent the majority of CNBC’s advertising revenue.
