The truth could once again be out there for Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny after they hinted that a new X-Files movie could be in the works.

The pair – who found fame as Agents Mulder and Scully on the 90s TV phenomenon – made the remarks during a Reddit AMA, ahead of an X-Files reunion at New York Comic Con this weekend.

When faced with the question of a third movie from one user, Duchovny revealed: I think Chris Carter is working on a script.

‘Chris is shooting a pilot right now, so he might not be working on a script, but he claims to be working on a script, and if he does do that and Fox wants to make it … Gillian will do it, I will do it, so start your writing campaign now.’

The actor added: ‘Seriously. We’d all love to do it. The ball is in Fox’s hands. And not Fox Mulder, Fox the studio.’

Anderson addressed the issue of X-Files returning to the big screen earlier this year when she attended Comic Con in San Diego, saying ‘a film would be great’.

The X-Files was a huge cult hit in the 1990s, following the investigations of FBI Special Agent Mulder and his skeptical sidekick Special Agent Scully.

The series spawned two films, The X-Files and The X-Files: I Want To Believe, with many fans pining for a third.

The most recent X-Files film, I Want To Believe, was released in 2008.

Anderson was seen on screen earlier this year in hit BBC Two thriller The Fall, with a second series of the show set to be screened in 2014.

Back then I used to keenly watch a few weekly programs 'X-Files' being one of them.

So keen that the anticipation of the following weeks episode helped prove to me the ability of 'Prediction'!

I used to regularly have a dream week in advance where I would play out the main points of the unseen episode! What a waste of an ability ha!

It shows me a very keen 'Intent' is part of the key to such abilities, if your not a full on naturale.
and
It shows me we can't always direct such abilities, they have there own agendas!

Good news about possible new film though, they have plenty to add into a script nowadays ha!

I'd imagine that we'd see even more disclosure than in the series and past two films.

Looking forward to it!

As a fan of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, I would really love to see this happen as well as a box set of the series in Blu-Ray quality.

A brand new trailer for the highly anticipated revival of The X-Files debuted Thursday night, and it's got us super excited all over again!

Unlike previous trailers, it isn't just old footage from previous episodes or random moody shots of creepy stuff. This promo actually shows Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) talking to each other!

It is, however, only 17 seconds long. But hey, that can't give you all the good stuff when the show's still half-a-year away!

Also, the interaction between Mulder and Scully pretty much sums up every fans' feelings about the revival.

"Are you ready for this Scully?" Mulder asks in the hushed, gravelly tone we love so much.

"I don't know there's a choice," Scully whispers in response.

And it's true! No matter how this revival series turns out, there really isn't a choice but to watch.

The X-Files revival is set to premiere Jan. 24, 2016 on Fox.
