Dear all,
I'm Jena of Lifechanyuan. I'm living in a spiritual community which is called the Second Home of Lifechanyuan (http://www.the2ndhome.org/2ndhome/Welcome.html) in Yunnan, China. Currently our community has three branches scattering in Anning, Chuxiong and Lincang of Yunnan Province, and whole area is around 145 acres. And total permanent residents are 150 including 14 children across branches.
Recently, something bad happened in the 3rd branch of our community, I've already posted the story before (Please give us your kind advice: The Real Battle Between Civilization and Barbarism in China (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?65196-Please-give-us-your-kind-advice-The-Real-Battle-Between-Civilization-and-Barbarism-in-China)) but now something worse is happening.
You can read all the events happened in the 3rd branch of the Second Home from:

A surprise inspection from public security bureau of Chuxiong city
(this article hasn't been translated into Chinese yet, here is the brief content) :
This afternoon, after 3:00pm, the vice city president and vice leader of Public Security Bureau of Chuxiong led near 100 policemen,came to do a surprise inspection to the 3rd branch of the Second Home. They didn't show any offical or legal paper announcement to do such a inspection. They said the reason is some people reported there are illegal activities in the 3rd branch.
From 3:00pm -- 9:00pm, every two policemen inspected one member, asked many questions and recorded everything with three cameras.
The questions include: the founder’s name, address, ID no., if there is any criminal history, is there any worship to him, the basic situation of his family, what is going on in the Second Home, all details of the community activities, is there any requirement of money if people want to join the home, the structure level and management, the values, why people come to join this community, is it free for all members to enter or leave here, is there any restriction, how is the education done to children, how do people have sexual life, what's the source of fund, what is people's daily work etc.
Then they checked every member's room, notebooks (copied all the info including personal photos and files from members who working on the websites), public destops, check is there anything secret under the quits or on beds, and checked the warehouse.
June 15, 2012
The director of Public Security Bureau of Chuxiong city announced to founder Xuefeng by call, claimed that the conclusions of the inspection are: 1, you need to understand it is a legal inspection. 2, you’re free. 3, please continue cooperating our work in the future.
—— This means we didn't do anything against the constitutions or laws, all our activies are legal, we can continue building our home.
March 6, 2013 :
Some members of Shaowan village commitee ( the village is 10 minutes' away from 3rd branch) claimed that they need to take the land back since they haven't enough land for all people in the village. They said this is an annoucement by government requisitioning land, but didn't show any offical paper to us.
Facing A Disaster , the Second Home of Lifechanyuan Asks All the Eminent and Community Leaders for Help (http://lifechanyuan.org/bbs/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=5386#lastpost)
Founder Xuefeng wrote a public letter to Shaowan village committee, showed clear attitude and position of the Second Home, that is if everything could work on a basis of legal, reasonable way, we could move from the land and cooperate with local village commitee or government requirements. Please don't do any extreme actions to the home and all our kind people living there since we're just a group of ordinary people pursuing a peaceful and simple life.
From March -- April
Then the negociation with shaowan village committee started. According to the contract signed with the landlord, we should have 10 times fine fee. Besides, since it's announced as a government requisition case, there are certain and clear national laws for us to follow and everything can just be done based on it. But from the beginning to the end, they didn't show any piece of offical paper or announcement, they just want to take the land and don't want to pay money. They even claimed that "you can move your new house, trees, and all new built or grown stuff in the past 2 years if you can!" —— The deal is not made in such a situation.

The Second Home of Lifechanyuan in China Seeks Urgent International Help!

Nov 09, 2013
Our home is facing a calamity, and the government is trying to dismiss all members in the community.
Six months ago, the 3rd branch of the community located at Chuxiong City, Yunnan Province, China was encountering the cut off of power, telephone, and network cables, and the road leading to the community was also dug. Recently, 20 villagers came to the 3rd branch under the command of our government, they pulled down our gate, and cancel the lease contract by force. They also required that 36 members who live in the 3rd branch leave the place. And they sent officers from local Police Station, Public Security Bureau, Civil Affairs Bureau, National Land Resources Bureau, City Building Bureau, and Forest Security Bureau to carry out their plan. Today, they even sent a bus intending to take people away.
All members of the 3rd branch in our community are going to be dismissed, after that, it is very possible that the government plans to do the same to the other two branches.
In the last four and a half years, we have never done anything illegal. Last year, 350 police officers came to the 3rd branch and did a thorough investigation, and proved that we did not have any criminal records. Besides, we never have hurt mother nature, Chinese society and any person, and we never are against Chinese government and Communist Party of China. We make everything happened in the community quite transparent and publish almost anything on internet. Friends from France, India, America, Germany, Belgium, Malaysia, England, Japan and some other countries had come to visit us and they can all prove that the Second Home is a very civilized community.
We do not know yet whether the action was the decision of central or local government.
I ask for urgent moral support from international communities/ecovillages, other international organizations, and individuals, please do whatever you can to save our community, the earlier the better. Please!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Though we are facing such big difficulies in our community now, we still have faith in God's love and peace. These two days we had a happy party in the 4th branch, we will post the pics on our website soon. Or later I will also share some pics with all of you here.
Chanyuan Celestials of Lifechanyuan are innocent and pure as crystal, stiff and hard as diamond, powerful and flexible as the flowing water, flexible as the twigs and branches of the spring willow. Chanyuan Celestials are sincere, faithful, broad and level, modest, warm, unconstrained, industrious and valiant. We are God's (the Greatest Creator's) lovely children, and our teachers are Jesus, Sakyamuni, Mohammed and LaoTzu. I feel so proud to be a chanyuan celestial living in the Second Home.
The authorities of the local governments forced us to remove contract for the 3rd branch and treated us as an illegal organization, took our sisters and brothers living in the 3rd branch to the police station to force them to go back to their hometown and forbid them to come to the 1st and the 4th branch. They tried their best to threaten our kind sisters and brother and even slanderd our Guide Xuefeng as a big liar who cheated our money and had killed some sisters and brothers. These info was shared by those sisters who are in the 3rd branch now. How dare they did and said so. Their illegal words and behaviours broke our heart very deeply.
Now Guide Xuefeng asked us to adopt Satyagraha Movement in all branches. I know the dark forces are very powerful, but as chanyuan celestials, we will never give up our community and mission!
Thank you for all your kind words and mental supports for our community in such a difficult time. Please give my sincere thanks to all of you here. Let's wait and see what God's next plan to us is!
Hi Jena,
I think it would be a good idea to try and find out exactly who or whom is behind these attacks on your movement and exactly what is his or their motive. Why do they fear your movement and what would it take for this person or persons to stop their attacks.
It seems to me that they have the instruments of power in their pocket or are probably part of it and in that light it would be very hard if not impossible to fight them on that turf.
If you have a better understanding of their motive and what they fear, you could better plan a strategy and investigate your own willingness to change accordingly.
For instance, would relocation of the 3th branch be an option?
This could be an option if someone is secretly interested in the land that this 3th branch is living on.
This seems unlikely to me, having read your story, but it is just to illustrate how your options would become more clear if you have a better understanding of your opponent.
This may sound childish, but I assure you I am being both serious and sincere.
I would suggest enlisting the assistance of ninjas. By ninjas, I mean individuals with a mindset/experience in dealing with hostile threats either above or under the proverbial radar. Your pics seem to indicate that your group is already experiencing targeted sabotage, siege, and guerrilla warfare, so I do not feel that you would be escalating as much as adequately responding to circumstances.
It is 'easy' for me to say from across the planet with a terse understanding of how business gets done in China. Having said that, if I were in your community I would voice as strong as possible toward resistance, and outright 'mediation' of threats.
By mediation I mean,... ninja shat. I can understand trying to be/remain peaceful up to a point, but not in the face of violence and/or vandalism. An individual or group who is willing/capable of handling 'business' either without detection and/or without implicating your group seems most apt; Particularly ones who are familiar with tactics and strategy. At the least, it seems like having someone watching the perimeter around the clock (or at least at night) might help to limit exposure.
Something along the lines of 7 Samurai. Are their any Shaolin warrior-monks in the area? Ninja villages? Has your village considered becoming ninjas? Again, I am not joking.
The good news seems to be that with the spirit and determination your group has shown, anywhere you do resettle (if) can be made comparably lush, fertile, and conducive. On the other hand, any Party individuals who are bent can enlist similar tactics to have your group continually harangued by ignorant peasants who seem to think that the law is what they say it is (probably because some 'authority' told them so). Though, I would not rule out these 'representatives' having misrepresented one or more element to the 'authorities', and that one or more parties may be operating under false pretenses.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/cat%27s-paw
This strikes me as a case of someone using a cats-paw to get their way but without exposing themselves to scrutiny, outcry, or international response. I mean, it would sound alot worse and elicit a more significant reaction if the ones engaging you were uniformed soliders, police, para-military, etc., especially if the individuals pulling the strings are highly connected; Someone trying to keep their hands clean. The solution may be to peacefully extricate yourself, it may be to stand your ground, or it may even be to expose the perpetrators. If one or more villagers were caught in the act of sabotage, would it not warrant a re-evaluation of the situation?
http://48-laws-of-power.blogspot.com/2008/12/law-26-keep-your-hands-clean.html
I wish you luck in the decision; It clearly is not an easy one and is not without it's consequences. Again, I suggest looking to Ninjas/Shaolin, you might have more in common than you think.
I don´t know how serious it might get there. Have not been to China yet (though I would like to visit yourcountry one day). However, having experience life under rule of communistic establishment in my country as well your peaceful comunity can be clearly dangerous to rulers there. As any free thinkers, any independent communities, any seekers of freedom and truth are since they are bytheir nature in oposition of any totalitarian regime thus to any ruling Communistic party which persue just one goal - dictatorship (total control).
You are threat to the establishment of your country my dear obviously; and unfortunatelly experiencing what any truthseekers who have lived in conditions of dictatorship experienced in other countries before you many times.
Since there is no revolution ongoing at the moment I propose to apply also reason, awareness and logics. Be carefull. Analize the situation thoroughly from different angles. Don´t expose yourself to any harsh reaction of establishment to avoid a prison options if any. Find most convenient strategy for instance to "be like water" flowing where the least obstacle is though finding always the way (as spirit). Try to survive. Even it would mean to move somewhere else. Remember: it is not important to win all battles important is to win the "war".
Spiritiual revolution is ongoing anyway. It is just matter of time when all walls of opretions fall down...
My prayers go to you and your comunity.
Love and freedom to all supressed.
I have to say that again, just as I thought I found a community that would be truly different than any other my naïve hope is crushed.
Xidaijena, I was taken in by your plight and earnest plea for help and prayers . . . so much so I sent considerable time on your communities web site and forum. Only to find that it is no different than the hundreds others I have seen over the years.
My reading and search and empathy for your community stopped when I came across the following below:
http://lifechanyuan.org/bbs/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=4732&extra=page%3D1
In order to express our gratitude and thankfulness for your benevolence, if you donate more than 150,000 US Dollars, we will build an elegant and pleasant room for your exclusive use in some of our most beautiful branches for your holiday stay or whenever you feel like to come experience the community life and enjoy the resources and happiness of the community. We will also hang up your photo including your name in each of our branches so that people of generations will remember and respect your kindness and selflessness for the wellbeing of mankind.
It ‘appears’ that in order to be a part of one of the ‘branches of communities’ one needs to donate a sizeable amount of money. So sizable that it would eliminate the majority of people who would like to be in your community.
Also, for some reason the following attitude always makes me incredibly angry: (from same web page)
The heavy and trivial household chores have disappeared because all jobs are professionalized and specialised; people now have more time and energy for work, study and entertainment.
This simply means that the communities (with those sizable ‘donations”) hire local people to do the grunt work. All those beautiful pictures of the gardens, buildings and amenities are the result of local people working incredibly hard and more than likely paid very little if at all.
For just once I wish a true ‘different’ community model would appear. One that is for ALL people and not only those who are wealthy and one that does not take advantage of those truly in need and are poor in monetary means.
The strength of your community's spirit allows you the wisdom to be like a cameleon. To change color and become invisible when needed for survival. Don't change your nature, just how you relate to the local society.
Jena,
Since the 3rd Branch will no longer exist and perhaps the other Branches are soon to follow, what happens with all those $150,000 (or more) donations?
I see that the founder of the 3rd branch is asking for 4,000,000 RMB (how much is this in US currency?) as compensation for the land. If this comes to a reality will your founder refund all those donations or is the money disappearing with the 3rd branch?
The more I read about the Second Home organization, the more concerned/skeptical I become, and it is NOT to do with concern for the organization. My earlier about ninjas still stands, but I am less convinced that suitably skilled ninjas would be so motivated.
In my personal opinion, you might be better suited to dissociation with such an organization. You may be benevolently/harmoniously motivated, but I guarantee that someone in the framework isn't, else further steps to perpetuate the #3 would have been launched in the years leading up to the current situation.
To many - both participant and visitor - it looks like it would be a magnificent place to live and work. I like that the 'jobs' are skill oriented; The cook is responsible for cooking, the doctor is responsible for medicine, the farmers are responsible for farming, etc. What about the ninja/security individuals? Did no one think that there might be some form of undesirable situation that needed mediation before the authorities might show?
The environment is lush and beautiful, but that is a matter of hard work rather than a testimony as to the veracity of the philosophy/phenomenon. I've seen lush properties owned by rich individuals/groups, but that's because there are landscapers.
My biggest issues (I won't comment the small issues) center around a few bits of observation.
Firstly, the forum is pleasant and easy to navigate. The only problem is that all the different departments and threads and boards and such lead to the exact same list of threads no matter what one clicks on. This strikes me as an attempt by someone to make the community appear more expansive and extensive than it actually is.
Secondly, it is very easy to make exalted claims of idyllicy, of being a utopia dreamed by saints and philosophers, of worry and care being eliminated, et al., but that does not make such claims true. In fact, alot of what is said about the community has to be taken at face value, and there are several (some glaring) claims that strike me as somewhere between a sales-pitch and abjectly false.
Next,
The officers from Public Security Department of Yunnan Province, China (where the community is located) once said after visiting our community, “What you have done is too ideal, and we doubt how you people can keep and develop this life mode”. But I’m very sure that the economic development of the Second Home will not have any problem, and we can definitely become self-sufficient and eventually live in abundance. The reality will prove it after three years.
This paragraph comes right after the one that admits that the main source of income is Celestials (those who give up all their possessions). Sorry, but the author saying they are "Very sure" does not mean :censored: and I find the dismissive - almost condescending - nature of this statement most unsettling. In particular I wonder how many donations/contributions it will take in order to become self-sufficient, and why individuals in the community are not marketing their trade/skill services to outlaying villages/communities on behalf - and to the benefit of - the organization.
Next,
http://lifechanyuan.org/bbs/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=4000&extra=page%3D1
We have now total 180 residents living in our community which includes 13 kids. The age of the oldest resident is 87 while the youngest is only 3. [...] More than half of the residents are female; middle-aged are the majority, and the average age in the community is around 40.
This is the part that concerned me most significantly. I find that this dynamic - while representing only the current participation - is a recipe for disaster. Less than 10% of the village are young, and it is admitted that the significant majority is middle aged and female. This strikes me as foolish and unsustainable. How is an organization to appeal to families, professionals, etc. if the organization is one in which conventional marriage is disbanded? I certainly would have nothing to do with an organization that expects myself and my partner to disband. I'm not claiming utopian mindset though.
All this analysis grew from the observation of this -
In the three years time since the Second Home was founded, our community never had any form of attrition and confliction with our neighbors. Actually, we keep a very friendly relationship with the neighbors.
Clearly this statement is inaccurate. I am not suggesting organizational duplicity, but I guarantee there is some on an individual level. This situation with #3 and the surrounding villagers did not appear overnight.
In summary; There are a slew of auspicious claims, descriptions, assertions, and opinions available on the forum, and I recognize that many of them may be true. In all probability however, many of them are impossible and the situation seems like it may have been intended to fail after a unspecific amount of time. If I were you, I would get to work figuring out (as per license agreements, contracts, etc) who stands to benefit from the whole thing collapsing because I guarantee someone is. Mind, when I say benefit I mean 'lawful/legal designated and interested party(s) to whom the proceeds/restitutions are to be remitted in the event of organizational collapse'. Mr. Yang perhaps?
Even simpler - all con jobs involve pretense; I smell pretense. Is it a con? Maybe not, but who loses if it is, or if it is/was incompetently managed, organized, perpetuated, etc.? Naivete is no excuse.
Do those celestials get all their belongings back?
"Trust in God, but always lock your door/car" - I read this yesterday and this is the second thread that seems applicable.
They forced us to remove contract and treated us as illegal community and tried their best to threaten those sisters and brothers living in the 3rd branch and slander our Guide Xuefeng as a big liar who cheated us money and even killed people. Some sisters and brothers were taken to the police station, and they shared some conversations on the Internet. It made us feel so disappointed to the policemen. So now, Guide Xuefeng told us to adopt Satyagraha Movement. Anyway, we won't give up our community and dream and faith and values at all.
I don't know, maybe I could be wrong...and if that is indeed the case, history (from the perspective outside of China anyway) shows us that any major deviation from the Communist Agenda is gonna get spanked.
I like the idea of Ninjas. Ok I really like the idea of Ninjas. But I can't get the image out of my head of the tank in front of the protester...or what happened in Tienanmen Square in 1989. I was 17 when that happened. When I was 18 I worked helping a trade delegation from Jinan set up a trade show in my home town, and we were explicitly told not to mention the massacre.
(K this idea as I'm writing it is taking on some interesting dimensions in my head...see bellow)
The truth of the matter is even if this is a legitimate situation, and these people really do need help, what can we do? It's got to come from within China and work outwards. We can offer our prayers, etc...but I can't afford $150,000 for a room.
Marxism. Gotta love it.
This may sound childish, but I assure you I am being both serious and sincere.
I would suggest enlisting the assistance of ninjas. By ninjas, I mean individuals with a mindset/experience in dealing with hostile threats either above or under the proverbial radar. Your pics seem to indicate that your group is already experiencing targeted sabotage, siege, and guerrilla warfare, so I do not feel that you would be escalating as much as adequately responding to circumstances.
It is 'easy' for me to say from across the planet with a terse understanding of how business gets done in China. Having said that, if I were in your community I would voice as strong as possible toward resistance, and outright 'mediation' of threats.
By mediation I mean,... ninja shat. I can understand trying to be/remain peaceful up to a point, but not in the face of violence and/or vandalism. An individual or group who is willing/capable of handling 'business' either without detection and/or without implicating your group seems most apt; Particularly ones who are familiar with tactics and strategy. At the least, it seems like having someone watching the perimeter around the clock (or at least at night) might help to limit exposure.
Something along the lines of 7 Samurai. Are their any Shaolin warrior-monks in the area? Ninja villages? Has your village considered becoming ninjas? Again, I am not joking.
The good news seems to be that with the spirit and determination your group has shown, anywhere you do resettle (if) can be made comparably lush, fertile, and conducive. On the other hand, any Party individuals who are bent can enlist similar tactics to have your group continually harangued by ignorant peasants who seem to think that the law is what they say it is (probably because some 'authority' told them so). Though, I would not rule out these 'representatives' having misrepresented one or more element to the 'authorities', and that one or more parties may be operating under false pretenses.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/cat%27s-paw
This strikes me as a case of someone using a cats-paw to get their way but without exposing themselves to scrutiny, outcry, or international response. I mean, it would sound alot worse and elicit a more significant reaction if the ones engaging you were uniformed soliders, police, para-military, etc., especially if the individuals pulling the strings are highly connected; Someone trying to keep their hands clean. The solution may be to peacefully extricate yourself, it may be to stand your ground, or it may even be to expose the perpetrators. If one or more villagers were caught in the act of sabotage, would it not warrant a re-evaluation of the situation?
http://48-laws-of-power.blogspot.com/2008/12/law-26-keep-your-hands-clean.html
I wish you luck in the decision; It clearly is not an easy one and is not without it's consequences. Again, I suggest looking to Ninjas/Shaolin, you might have more in common than you think.
All members of the 3rd branch in our community are going to be dismissed, after that, it is very possible that the government plans to do the same to the other two branches.
In the last four and a half years, we have never done anything illegal. Last year, 350 police officers came to the 3rd branch and did a thorough investigation, and proved that we did not have any criminal records. Besides, we never have hurt mother nature, Chinese society and any person, and we never are against Chinese government and Communist Party of China. We make everything happened in the community quite transparent and publish almost anything on internet. Friends from France, India, America, Germany, Belgium, Malaysia, England, Japan and some other countries had come to visit us and they can all prove that the Second Home is a very civilized community.
We do not know yet whether the action was the decision of central or local government.
I don´t know how serious it might get there. Have not been to China yet (though I would like to visit yourcountry one day). However, having experience life under rule of communistic establishment in my country as well your peaceful comunity can be clearly dangerous to rulers there. As any free thinkers, any independent communities, any seekers of freedom and truth are since they are bytheir nature in oposition of any totalitarian regime thus to any ruling Communistic party which persue just one goal - dictatorship (total control).
You are threat to the establishment of your country my dear obviously; and unfortunatelly experiencing what any truthseekers who have lived in conditions of dictatorship experienced in other countries before you many times.
Since there is no revolution ongoing at the moment I propose to apply also reason, awareness and logics. Be carefull. Analize the situation thoroughly from different angles. Don´t expose yourself to any harsh reaction of establishment to avoid a prison options if any. Find most convenient strategy for instance to "be like water" flowing where the least obstacle is though finding always the way (as spirit). Try to survive. Even it would mean to move somewhere else. Remember: it is not important to win all battles important is to win the "war".
Spiritiual revolution is ongoing anyway. It is just matter of time when all walls of opretions fall down...
My prayers go to you and your comunity.
Love and freedom to all supressed.
Pilgrim
Thank you for your kind words, dear Pilgrim.
You are threat to the establishment of your country my dear obviously; and unfortunatelly experiencing what any truthseekers who have lived in conditions of dictatorship experienced in other countries before you many times.
I don't think we are threat to China. We are also waiting to see whether China is an open country around the world or not now.
BTW...share a new article written by our Guide Xuefeng with all of you here:
"
One Value I Want to Share With the City Affairs Bureau
Xuefeng
Our president Mr. Xi Jinping taught us, “The beautiful longing and dream of general citizen in the society is a goal we need to make efforts to achieve”. The word “We” he refers to also includes you, the City Affairs Bureau.
So what is the beautiful and ideal life people are longing for?
A harmonious and peaceful society where people do not worry about basic needs such as meals, clothes, housing, illness, sickness and death. Both the juniors and seniors are well taken care. Everyone has a happy, free, joyful, and blessed life. The living environment is such that the air is fresh, the sky is blue, and water is clear and unpolluted. The living places are surrounded by lush vegetation and blossoming flowers. Birds are flying around freely. Nobody pockets anything found on the road and doors are unnecessarily to be locked at night. People love and care each other, and do not commit crimes. There are no thieves. Oppressions and exploitations do not exist. There are no bossy government officials and workers that intervene people’s quiet life at their will.
One value I would like to share with you is: Each citizen has the right to choose a lifestyle that suits themselves under the scope of Chinese constitution and laws.
The lifestyle of the Second Home created by Lifechanyuan is a very absolute communal way of living, which has basically realized the beautiful dream of general public. Therefore, in my opinion, you need to support and promote this lifestyle rather than intervening and stopping its development.
Why the City Affairs Bureau of Chuxiong city wants to carry out the dismissal plan towards the Second Home? You said that we did not register with you and had proper records, so the existence of our community was illegal. What I want to ask is that we live together as a big family without violating Chinese laws, nor do we commit robbery or stealing. And we did not set up business to make profit or participate in any political or other organizational activities. We create wealth by our hard work, and have not caused any troubles to the government. Why you want to do this to us? Is that so we have to live a traditional lifestyle to meet your requirement? Don’t we have the right to have a collective way of living? We chose the communal way of living and formed a big family, please tell us how we can register at your office as such mode of existence rather than trying to dismiss us, we are willing to comply under your guidance.
Chinese Prime Minister Mr. Li Keqiang told us that we need to fully support and stimulate people’s creativity and their motivation of innovation, and boost the vitality of the society.
He did not say that innovation is only the right of government, or general citizen are not allowed to blaze new trails.
I hope that the City Affairs Bureau can keep pace with the times and improve your governing capacity. I also hope that you will stop the Second Home dismissal plan.
I have to say that again, just as I thought I found a community that would be truly different than any other my naïve hope is crushed.
Xidaijena, I was taken in by your plight and earnest plea for help and prayers . . . so much so I sent considerable time on your communities web site and forum. Only to find that it is no different than the hundreds others I have seen over the years.
My reading and search and empathy for your community stopped when I came across the following below:
http://lifechanyuan.org/bbs/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=4732&extra=page%3D1
In order to express our gratitude and thankfulness for your benevolence, if you donate more than 150,000 US Dollars, we will build an elegant and pleasant room for your exclusive use in some of our most beautiful branches for your holiday stay or whenever you feel like to come experience the community life and enjoy the resources and happiness of the community. We will also hang up your photo including your name in each of our branches so that people of generations will remember and respect your kindness and selflessness for the wellbeing of mankind.
It ‘appears’ that in order to be a part of one of the ‘branches of communities’ one needs to donate a sizeable amount of money. So sizable that it would eliminate the majority of people who would like to be in your community.
Also, for some reason the following attitude always makes me incredibly angry: (from same web page)
The heavy and trivial household chores have disappeared because all jobs are professionalized and specialised; people now have more time and energy for work, study and entertainment.
This simply means that the communities (with those sizable ‘donations”) hire local people to do the grunt work. All those beautiful pictures of the gardens, buildings and amenities are the result of local people working incredibly hard and more than likely paid very little if at all.
For just once I wish a true ‘different’ community model would appear. One that is for ALL people and not only those who are wealthy and one that does not take advantage of those truly in need and are poor in monetary means.
Hi blufire, tks for paying more attention on our website and asking something that you may misunderstand us. Well, because my English may be not very well, I will try my best to explain it to all of you here.
First, the article about the donation was written in Jan, 2013. At that time, we just faced something difficult in our economy. But that was only a methed to slove our problem of our community. From that to now, we didn't expect anyone would really pay such amount of money for our community. In fact, we will change the rules according to the situation. Besides, we have already gotten alliance with a Japanese community these days. There's no such money needed between us.
Of course no. You just don't understand what we are doing here. All members here are not local people. We are all from different places in China. We treat our community as our own lives, so why do we need to be paid by ourselves? Maybe because you treat money such important that you couldn't understand why all of us here are all selfless devotion.
Jena,
Since the 3rd Branch will no longer exist and perhaps the other Branches are soon to follow, what happens with all those $150,000 (or more) donations?
I see that the founder of the 3rd branch is asking for 4,000,000 RMB (how much is this in US currency?) as compensation for the land. If this comes to a reality will your founder refund all those donations or is the money disappearing with the 3rd branch?
Hi blufire, sorry to reply your such late for I'm a little busy with other things. Your thinking is right, but now some good news is coming to our community. God has already made a way for us, just wait and see.
Till now, we haven't gotten any donations from other people. All donations are from our memebers and used in the construction of our community. We have a weak economy in our community now, but it's still oaky for us to meet our basic needs. We also have some plans to increase our economy.
Yes, it's about $ 666666.7, but they didn't agree to repay us such money, they just want to pay 500000RMB. It made our Guide Xuefeng very angry and give up all the money. No, because all members living in our community are all those who give up all their property in the outside world or devote them to our community, all of us treat our community as important as our own lives, especially our Guide Xuefeng, he gave all his money which is about 5000000RMB to our community, we won't leave our community until we die. It's God's will for us to create such a new life model of the Second Home for all human beings, if it fails, there's no hope for all human beings, so we will never give up our community and from the new reports of Chinese centre governments, there're some new polices for the building our community now.
The more I read about the Second Home organization, the more concerned/skeptical I become, and it is NOT to do with concern for the organization. My earlier about ninjas still stands, but I am less convinced that suitably skilled ninjas would be so motivated.
In my personal opinion, you might be better suited to dissociation with such an organization. You may be benevolently/harmoniously motivated, but I guarantee that someone in the framework isn't, else further steps to perpetuate the #3 would have been launched in the years leading up to the current situation.
To many - both participant and visitor - it looks like it would be a magnificent place to live and work. I like that the 'jobs' are skill oriented; The cook is responsible for cooking, the doctor is responsible for medicine, the farmers are responsible for farming, etc. What about the ninja/security individuals? Did no one think that there might be some form of undesirable situation that needed mediation before the authorities might show?
The environment is lush and beautiful, but that is a matter of hard work rather than a testimony as to the veracity of the philosophy/phenomenon. I've seen lush properties owned by rich individuals/groups, but that's because there are landscapers.
My biggest issues (I won't comment the small issues) center around a few bits of observation.
Firstly, the forum is pleasant and easy to navigate. The only problem is that all the different departments and threads and boards and such lead to the exact same list of threads no matter what one clicks on. This strikes me as an attempt by someone to make the community appear more expansive and extensive than it actually is.
Secondly, it is very easy to make exalted claims of idyllicy, of being a utopia dreamed by saints and philosophers, of worry and care being eliminated, et al., but that does not make such claims true. In fact, alot of what is said about the community has to be taken at face value, and there are several (some glaring) claims that strike me as somewhere between a sales-pitch and abjectly false.
Next,
The officers from Public Security Department of Yunnan Province, China (where the community is located) once said after visiting our community, “What you have done is too ideal, and we doubt how you people can keep and develop this life mode”. But I’m very sure that the economic development of the Second Home will not have any problem, and we can definitely become self-sufficient and eventually live in abundance. The reality will prove it after three years.
This paragraph comes right after the one that admits that the main source of income is Celestials (those who give up all their possessions). Sorry, but the author saying they are "Very sure" does not mean :censored: and I find the dismissive - almost condescending - nature of this statement most unsettling. In particular I wonder how many donations/contributions it will take in order to become self-sufficient, and why individuals in the community are not marketing their trade/skill services to outlaying villages/communities on behalf - and to the benefit of - the organization.
Next,
http://lifechanyuan.org/bbs/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=4000&extra=page%3D1
We have now total 180 residents living in our community which includes 13 kids. The age of the oldest resident is 87 while the youngest is only 3. [...] More than half of the residents are female; middle-aged are the majority, and the average age in the community is around 40.
This is the part that concerned me most significantly. I find that this dynamic - while representing only the current participation - is a recipe for disaster. Less than 10% of the village are young, and it is admitted that the significant majority is middle aged and female. This strikes me as foolish and unsustainable. How is an organization to appeal to families, professionals, etc. if the organization is one in which conventional marriage is disbanded? I certainly would have nothing to do with an organization that expects myself and my partner to disband. I'm not claiming utopian mindset though.
All this analysis grew from the observation of this -
In the three years time since the Second Home was founded, our community never had any form of attrition and confliction with our neighbors. Actually, we keep a very friendly relationship with the neighbors.
Clearly this statement is inaccurate. I am not suggesting organizational duplicity, but I guarantee there is some on an individual level. This situation with #3 and the surrounding villagers did not appear overnight.
In summary; There are a slew of auspicious claims, descriptions, assertions, and opinions available on the forum, and I recognize that many of them may be true. In all probability however, many of them are impossible and the situation seems like it may have been intended to fail after a unspecific amount of time. If I were you, I would get to work figuring out (as per license agreements, contracts, etc) who stands to benefit from the whole thing collapsing because I guarantee someone is. Mind, when I say benefit I mean 'lawful/legal designated and interested party(s) to whom the proceeds/restitutions are to be remitted in the event of organizational collapse'. Mr. Yang perhaps?
Even simpler - all con jobs involve pretense; I smell pretense. Is it a con? Maybe not, but who loses if it is, or if it is/was incompetently managed, organized, perpetuated, etc.? Naivete is no excuse.
Do those celestials get all their belongings back?
"Trust in God, but always lock your door/car" - I read this yesterday and this is the second thread that seems applicable.
Hi Shezbeth, you do read a lot about our articles and are very good at your logical reasoning. If I were you, I would have less faith in God, and pay much attention to the meterial world, for you use your mind a lot while I use my heart and feelings a lot. You do quote this sentence ""Trust in God, but always lock your door/car" ? Oh my, how poor your soul is, you think God isn't powerful enough to pretect your door or car? It reminds me of those Pharisees in the Bible. Do tell you something very important that you won't truly understand what Lifechanyuan & the Second Home are until you begin to lose your mind. :p
The strength of your community's spirit allows you the wisdom to be like a cameleon. To change color and become invisible when needed for survival. Don't change your nature, just how you relate to the local society.
Peace!
Thank you for your kind advice, dear spiritguide. But we still insist on our true nature, color and will let all human beings know our community. For it's God's task given us to accomplish. Hugs.
