Santa Cruz, police are impressed with the PredPol software system that analyzes statistics for "crimes" (or what could even be defined as "suspicious") and gives the user a "heads up" before a crime happens..

""Predictive Policing" making LA safer
APRIL 11, 2012, 4:26 PM|The LAPD is implementing a computer-based program called "Predictive Policing," which uses mathematical calculations to predict where crime will occur, reports Bob Orr.
“Older systems show where crime has been. This system looks forward.”
"Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and Chief John Diaz announced today that police have begun using new “predictive policing” software in the city’s East and Southwest precincts in an effort to reduce crime through analysis of data on crime and location."

They (law enforcement) are already out of control. I find this quite alarming...

UK embraces PredPol - finding crime before it happens
ref: http://www.kent.police.uk/news/latest_news/130816_predpol_resul.html
"Predictive Policing is an intelligence led computer programme that uses an algorithm to pin-point police to zones (boxes) where crime is most likely to occur.
"It was introduced to Kent Police in December by Chief Constable Ian Learmonth, who together with Kent Police and Crime Commissioner Ann Barnes took to the streets in Margate and Maidstone on Wednesday, to see how officers patrolled their designated predictive zones.
"Speaking yesterday (Thursday 15 August) Mr Learmonth said: ‘We are the first police force in the UK to fully embrace predictive policing and the results so far have been encouraging.
‘When we piloted predictive policing in North Kent we saw a 6 per cent reduction in street violence.
‘Yesterday was a very successful day. We had 95 individual officers dedicated to patrolling the predictive policing zones. This resulted in 1,219 visits to zones and 220 hours of patrolling.
‘There were no additional costs to the force – this was business as usual – but we believe it is has led to a 10 per cent reduction in crime, particularly violent crime, over the last 24 hours and a reduction in calls to our control centre.’
'Really positive'
"District Commander Chief Inspector Dave Pate said: ‘This was a great example of good old fashioned policing, combined with the 21st century technology of predictive policing. When PredPol was piloted in north Kent there was a 6% reduction in street violence, which is fantastic.
"PredPol is not just about preventing crime, it is about solving it, identifying where we should concentrate our efforts and engaging with the community.
"Tunbridge Wells is already one of the safest places in the county to live and I’m really positive about PredPol, and the impact that it can have here.’
