GrainCorp CEO Alison Watkins has resigned.

2 Dec 2013

GrainCorp chief executive Alison Watkins resigned on Monday, just days after the Australian government blocked a takeover bid by American agribusiness giant Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) for being against the national interest.

"I have carefully weighed my options over the past two days," she said in a statement to the Australian stock market.

"Given last week's unexpected developments, I feel it is in the best interests of GrainCorp, our people and customers that I move on now and allow the board to find new leadership to take the business forward into its new phase." Treasurer Joe Hockey vetoed the takeover on Friday, which would have left 60 per cent of wheat shipments from Australia controlled by three companies - ADM, Glencore Xstrata and Cargill.

It also would have put almost all the country's eastern grain export infrastructure under foreign ownership, a scenario that met strong opposition from grower groups and the National Party, which is part of Australia's governing coalition.

The Foreign Investment Review Board was split on whether to green-light the takeover but Hockey decided to reject it, sparking criticism from business groups that it sent negative signals about Australia's openness to foreign investment.

Taylor said Hockey's decision had come as a surprise and Watkins' departure was regrettable.

"The expectation in the investment community was that ADM's offer for GrainCorp would be approved and effected in the near term," he said.

"Despite the challenges of the past week, GrainCorp remains a great company, with exciting opportunities ahead."

PS - (CEO) Alison Watson resigns just 2 days after her takeover bid rejected by Govt....

Obviously she resigned because she (FAILED) to do what she was employed to do...

To facilitate the Takeover of Australia's Graincorp...! :mad2:

Thank God for that...:faint:

We don/t need any more Companies like Graincorp or Cubbie Station for that matter with (Control) falling into the hands of PTW foreigners..!

Forgive me, but does the Australian Govt. have a conscience..?

or

Was this just to appease some of the Nationals, so they would look like they have been listening to their constituents..?

Not quite

From this (http://www.smh.com.au/business/joe-hockey-decision-on-graincorp-bid-threatens-investment-20131129-2yhex.html) article in the smh....Joe Hockey..."We are open for business. Of the more than 130 applications that have come to my desk since the election, only one has been declined and this is it."

Seems the msm only want to focus on the one that got away.

Alison Watkins is OK--- she is to take up a position with Coca-Cola Amatyl!!!! She must be hopping mad not to have made a triumphant exit and sweeping entrance though. I would like to think that the decision was made for the right reasons and not simply as a political move to silence the National party. For me the right reason would have been because it was actually the wrong move, as have been the multitude of other Australian companies now sold off and governed by foreign boards.

Unbeknown's to me at the time (I personally met & worked) with these NWO/Bureaucratic types and let me tell you, they are absolutely (Ruthless) people, very intelligent and could not give a Toss about those they trample along their way..!

They are (Totally Focussed) at (ALL) times on their Contracts and just as (Ruthlessly) sacked if they don't reach their appointed KPI's & Targets...!

I'm not sure how reliable a source news.com.au is. I'm also not sure how to take all of this. There is always fire behind the smoke.

Jeeeze theres a list of gripes against the Abbot (Liberal Gov'ts) line of defamation of its peoples values which is against Australia's face on the world stage, that could be aired here..
but my whinging on this forum would not effectively disallow any such erosion...

Therefore I defer to my power of influence to closer environ's
and leave the energies of comparative 'substance' to my so inclined and applaudable 'mate' Jack.

Call me lazy or lacking in vitriole..

BUT

Go forth and prosper the necessary word with all the spunk at your disposal
Jackster, we so need you in our army!
