As soon as I read your post I had the feeling you might be touching the 'Dark Night of the Soul' and the fear arising can be coming from the smaller self feeling what the higher is leading to. St Teresa of Avila called these her 'reptiles' because they were like demons but came only from within. St. Teresa and St. John of the Cross are two of the most interesting mystics in this area of the souls journey. No matter what secular beliefs (or not) that you may have; a lot can be understood about depression and the aridity we all must go through to 'know'.

I feel the same way as what most people on this thread have already said. Hard times in life are usually a point of growth. Since you seem to be very sensitive to energies it may manifest a little more harsh for you.

If however it is some form of attack on you by some outside influence try to focus on LOVE. Any way that you can manifest the feeling of LOVE in your mind and your being will work against any negative forces being pushed on you
