I wanted to watch this series for a while, not so much for the storylines but for
the concept of equipment and craft used and references to things I know more
about now. When the series first came out in 1995, I was involved with other
things so only caught a few of the episodes out of order as it was on late Saturdays
if I remember, for some reason ( UK ), so was only viewed by a small audience
back then. There was a lot of buzz on and off about ET's with the X files,
The Roswell autopsy film and some other good documentaries for the time.

Of course Star Trek , Babylon 9 and other Scy-fy series were about, but set
much further in the future and the seventies shows like space 1999 and UFO
were fun but unrealistic for the then near future.

This show had the feel of a possible secret space programme from the 60's
thru 90's about it. Although who knows what they may be flying up there
50 years is ample time to create exotic craft and propulsion if the right
minds are dedicated to it and of course we may have back engineered
alien tech or even been given ET help. There is plenty of speculation and
threads on all those possibilities and more.

I've watched the first three, and it looks quite fresh for its age, it reminds me
of Stargate released in 1994 which like a lot of Scy-fy films have a good
concept and first hour then gets rushed to finnish usually with a shoot out
against the bad guys..LOL... Anyway Stargate is similarly set in the present
from the mid 90's to mid 2000's, again the story lines are about subjects
talked on here. The ET's pretending to be gods etc, and they are using
believable craft and organisation with all the same talk about disclosure
and secrecy. In fact it could be suttle disclosure, or a parody of all the
UFO disclosure sites...LOL..

The three main concepts artificially grown humans, 'Tanks', AI's & the AI
wars and Alien life, hostile of course are all current theories with many
threads. What it tells us is none of this is new, and a something I have thought
for decades what is driving what, Science fiction or Science fact or are they
in the end one and the same thing. Since every creation starts from thought/idea
from a humans brain and brought into creation by spoken word.

So Science fiction is just Science fact waiting to be invented or physically viable..

Space: Above and Beyond is a short-lived mid-1990s American science fiction television
show on the FOX Network, created and written by Glen Morgan and James Wong.
Originally planned for five seasons, it ran only for the single 1995–1996 season. It was
nominated for two Emmy Awards and one Saturn Award. It was ranked "50" in IGN's
top 50 Sci-Fi TV Shows, described as "yet another sci-fi show that went before its time".[1]

Set in the years 2063–2064, the show focuses on the "Wildcards", members of the
United States Marine Corps Space Aviator Cavalry, 58th Squadron. They are stationed
on the space carrier USS Saratoga, and act as infantry and pilots of SA-43 Endo/Exo-
Atmospheric Attack Jet ("Hammerhead") fighters.

Apart from the usual storyline, there is a good ref to compartmentalisation, top
secret level and corporate / government interests when covering up the survivors
of the colony and prisoners being taken away by the 'chigs'.....

TY for reminding me of this show...

I remember this series. There are plenty of insider type references and lingo seeded through out the episodes. Very cleverly as always as usual, but mostly it is a pretty enjoyable science fiction story line. I enjoyed it.

Among the info that peeks my interest is the AI Wars, the use of Genetically engineering soldiers (Nipple Necks/Tanks) to help fight and win that war before they moved out and colonized other star systems through traveling by predicting the opening and closing of wormholes before encountering the "Mantis Type Aliens"...

I am watching them now, I forgot about this series... it was pretty good IMO. :-)

Yeah that really stood out , you tend to forget how much this was in your face back then.....

I have been listening to part of the serie. I find the special effects a bit lacking, but the overall frame of mind interesting. The military frame of mind and conquest of planets. Also the ETs stories in parts. Thank you for bringing it
