Autism Research
Our local NBC news station just released a research study where autistic mice were cured by probiotics at the University of Wisc. Had to share. Tried to find it over the internet and could not find the story.

They are finally studying what many parents have been saying forever.
Digestive troubles and leaky guts have been know for at least 25 years
vaccines
allergies to red dyes and other artificial food components
poor toxins éliminations, amongst other heavy metals
those chlidren are the canaries in the coal mine, find the causes of their diseases and you find what is wrong for the rest of us.
In my idea, very few are truly genetic origins.
Thanks fairy child to bring this up. I would want those guts bacteria right away without waiting for human trials, if I were a mom with a heavily austitic child. Tesla, a cue here.

Thanks for this.
It's about time the media stopped saying "there is no cure".
Doctors should be ashamed of themselves.
p.s. don't forget about the great evil, HFCS...
Autism Symptoms In Mice Decreased With Probiotics, Study Says
December 5, 2013 2:35 pm0 commentsViews:
Probiotics seem to decrease autism-like symptoms in mice, according to a new study.
When California Institute of Technology (Caltech) researchers treated mice bred to display autism-like behaviors with a probiotic therapy, they found that the mice were more communicative, less anxious and less likely to engage in repetitive digging behavior. The findings are published online in the Dec. 5 issue of the journal Cell.
This is the first study to demonstrate that changes in gut bacteria can influence autism-like behaviors, researchers noted.
“Traditional research has studied autism as a genetic disorder and a disorder of the brain,” study researcher Sarkis K. Mazmanian, a professor of biology at Caltech, said in a statement. “But our work shows that gut bacteria may contribute to [autism-like] symptoms in ways that were previously unappreciated.”
Researchers developed mice with autism-like symptoms by referring to a previous finding that severe viral infection during pregnancy seems to increase the risk the child will have autism. So, the researchers triggered an infection-like immune response in pregnant mice, which led to offspring with autism-like symptoms.
The researchers found that the gastrointestinal tracts of these mice were “leaky,” meaning material was able to pass through the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream. The researchers treated the mice with Bacteroides fragilis, a bacterium that has been used as an experimental probiotic therapy on gastrointestinal disorders in animal studies.
The results were exciting: Not only was the leaky gut corrected, but the mice became more communicative and less anxious.
Because of the study’s success, within the next year or so, the researchers plan to begin clinical trials of the probiotic treatment on humans with autism. About 1 in 50 U.S. children ages 6 to 17 have an autism spectrum disorder, according to a report based on a national survey of parents in 2011 and 2012 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Many parents of a child with autism report that their child has digestive problems. However, the relationship between autism and digestive problems or “leaky gut” is disputed. It is unclear if digestive problems contribute to autism, or if the stress of autism causes digestive problems.
According to a study last month from the University of California, Davis, children with autism are far more likely to have digestive problems than those without autism. However, a study published in Pediatrics in 2010 found there’s no strong evidence that digestive problems are more common in children with autism or that special diets work.
Caltech researchers caution that much more work is needed before a reliable probiotic can be developed as a therapy for human autism.
“Autism is such a heterogeneous disorder that the ratio between genetic and environmental contributions could be different in each individual,” Mazmanian said in the press release. “Even if B. fragilis ameliorates some of the symptoms associated with autism, I would be surprised if it’s a universal therapy — it probably won’t work for every single case.”
Betty Diamond, an immunologist at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research in Manhasset, New York, told Science Magazine that this Caltech study “shows us something fabulous.” She also stressed that it would be premature to use B. fragilis on humans, saying “we don’t really understand” which bacterial species are important or how they colonize the gut.
Still, Mazmanian is optimistic about the treatment’s potential, saying “I think our results may someday transform the way people view possible causes and potential treatments for autism.”

For those who don't know it, there is a wealth of information on restoring gut health in Dawn's thread here:

Thanks for those links. I know it is standard procedure to do 100 of papers before it becomes more accepted. I'm having so much fun here.
Everything is connected. Genes and the environment interact. Genetic predispositions are the canaries, like nickle allergy, wheat-Gluten allergy. Marcelo.com with Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride has found the root connection as use of antibiotics over generations. It's a potentiating effect with a spectrum of problems. She has found the right direction.
The Cure to Autism (a spectrum disorder) is a diagnostic panel.
You say dyes and immunization shots, I say cerebral allergy. Same thing. Heavy metals, wheat-gluten, GMO, Candida, over and over we see the same connections, all linked to probiotics as helping cure these.
It should be standard procedure to test the pee and poop of a newborn. These non-invasive tests will tell the profile of what's in the gut and the pee the toxins being excreted, giving a clue to the health of the newborns immune system.
Really? Can we not say look at the first diaper.
The Cause of Autism
It's not just about the gut. It's about the initial priming of the gut from the birth canal.
Everything connects.

Dear Fairy Friend, a biochemist told me once that once the gut flora is installed, it will remain the same lifelong. I there is someting lacking, the lack is permanent. Supplementation as to be therefore permanent, lifelong as well, because the guts will always return to the basis. Is that right in your opinion?
thanks for your good information.

Thanks for posting FF:
I just 'cured' my son from a deep autistic depressive illness this past year. His GP doctor said he was doing this on purpose..lol. I used excellent probiotics, methylated 'B' complex, high quality amino-acids, body-bio phosphatidylcholine, cod liver oil , Concentrace mineral drops and a lot of LOVE ..... along with good fresh whole food, of course. He is almost 100% and doing great! The nurses and docs are surprised how fast he recovered and how well he is now! hmm

I've always been a mildly autistic person and I've had lots of gut problems (candida etc.). My mother told that when I was young I had lots of ear infections and they were treated with antibiotics. Of course I had all the vaccinations too... Only just recently I have started to get my health in order with fresh organic food and dietary supplements, but I have a still a long road ahead me before I can say that I am fully in good health. No one ever told me that what was really wrong with me, I just had to find out it myself. It has taken years.

it's amazing, people can get to feeling so ill that they forget what it was like to feel good.
:(
Do you guys remember the scare in Germany a couple years back, where people's GUT FLORA (e coli) was testing positive for Y Pestis (black plague!) DNA?
People weren't sure whether antibiotics and vaccines helped wild strains to coalesce, as Y pestis and E coli may trade genes in the wild with help from bacteriophages, or of the strain was overtly weaponized.
I bitched out my ex boyfriend who worked on the Lambda Red (bacteriophage) Delivery System, before the outbreak in Germany -- I told him his technology was threatening to disrupt the human body flora.
:( eek
I wonder what he thought about that.

What is amazing that thanks to my illness I was able to use what little energy I had to study all the spiritual stuff and esoteric wisdoms at a fairly young age. So called "normal life" hasn't been possible for me so I have been able to focus on finding out the truth. I guess it's one of the major reasons why I came here.

I too am bringing my grandson back. He has great eye contact now and says words. Juicing, probiotics, supplements, fermented vegetables, Epsom salt baths actually had a bigger affect than I realized, we have high Cadmium in our local well and Dad has a nickle allergy, this takes some heavy metals out, yet, those it doesn't now the body can shunt more of their resources to to correct.
Some things that I would do for an adult, can't be done or shouldn't be done on children. Garlic kills everything but I would hesitate using a garlic cleanse on a child and you have to reset the intestinal flora afterwards and not just acidophilus but many things need to be reset in the proper levels. Old thinking about natural diets is where I hear the word cure. When I found out they gave these children Haldol, I wept. The best minds don't know how to fix this and a single dose can alter things in the brain. I believe nothing cannot be undone. I believe in alternatives.
At the end of the day, all I cared about was my grandson because he has my heart. I hired an army and results came quick even if they weren't all the best steps, I took many in the right direction. I saw him slip away. At the end of the day, he sees me and is coming back in the course of 2 months. People are asking what I am doing. My what fertile ground.
The best minds all say the same thing. We're shooting in the dark. Run some tests. Find out what is exactly wrong and exactly fix it.

you mean that children delivered through cesarian do not have it. You mean that children without the colostrum do not have it? Ever?

No the opposite. More likely. For instance if you are exposed early to two types of cat fur you wont develop an allergy to cats.

Yes, they can have it. I have also learned about curing autism from Dr. Natasha Campbell-Mcbride. What they eat has A LOT to do with their mental health. I learned first hand with my 29 year old son who was diagnosed with autism/aspergers syndrome when he was very young. I have watched him suffer through the years although I tried to help him in many ways. I thought he was eating a healthy diet but his diet was missing essential nutrients and probiotics/fermented foods. He is now showing no autistic symptoms but still has a small amount of ocd traits that are diminishing daily. There is a better way to help our kids and mainstream doctors do not know how. It takes time and patience but it really works!

Mentioned in Dawn's thread (referenced above) is a great book called Breaking The Vicious Cycle. There are many other good books that contend all or at least most mental issues can be resolved by growing and feeding the huge colony of beneficial gut bacteria. Another good book is Fire In The Belly, which reveals a startling discovery, that the DNA of gut bacteria has more direct influence on our physical and mental health than does our own human DNA!!! This is absolutely a remedy that parents should embrace. Grow those gut germs mother and dad!

We need to research changes in Mitochondrial DNA as well; people with autism and asperger's tend to have denser brain tissue in certain regions.
If the mitochondria are misfiring or inadequate for the job of supplying energy to a denser brain, or if their mDNA has been damaged, there will be a problem.
I am super interested in this probiotic stuff.
If my son comes home I will be doing a lot more of that.
It's hard to introduce the subject to the caregivers (small language barrier) but it sounds like it's worth it.
