Personally I say yes. I only use cold water for cleaning my body year round. Taking cold shower for half hour makes me feel good too. I say cold water is definitely uncomfortable but I enjoy the sensation and how the body works in cold. It generates enough heat to warm up surrounding air.

Impressive feat from Porfiry Ivanov in that documentary, wearing only shorts regardless of the weather, even in deep winter. Reminds me of what some Tibetan monks would do, going out on the mountains with only a wet robe on to have it dry. I heard "the trick" is to focus on a warm core inside you and let it radiate heat. There's probably a bit more to it, but I think it's entirely possible. It's a siddhi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siddhi).
I enjoy a cold shower and bath after sauna, I also went swimming in the North Sea once in early March for quite a while followed by sauna, but I had a very good cold for a week. I feel to go as far as Porfiry or those monks, I'd have to devote significantly more time to my meditative practice. The point really is that you gotta use your qi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qi) then. If it was only for the regular physical capacities of your body, you'd freeze. You gotta use your higher energy and capabilities just like breatharians when they stop eating.

I take alternating hot/cold showers once or twice a day, about 5 mins of hot water and 10 of cold.
I love it, it's like a spiritual baptism every day.

Cold activates the immune system. This is proven.
But I think that freezing cold like in the North Sea in March is killing the immune system. This is not proven. Everything in moderation, even cold.

It works Christian! I use the technique when I'm out walking my dog..the more focused, the warmer you get. Wouldn't have believed it unless I'd tried it.
And trust me...this is Saskatchewan...you need to be able to use that yoga if you're gonna barbecue at -49C :)

in the philippines pretty much everyone showers cold.
my friend who married a pinay and sometimes lives there for months only showers cold since and thinks its far more refreshing.
i was there for a month and at first it was quite unconfortable, but i adapted quickly and due to the warm weather its not really a biggie.
since im back i shower a little cooler, but rarely cold. but sometimes its a nice change.
another friend of mine also showers cold.
i think its definitely good for everyone to experiment a bit and check how they really feel about it, if they give it a real try.
