Incident at Israel Lebanon border

Reports coming in over the last hour that the Lebanese army has attacked an Israeli military vehicle resulting in the death of one soldier. This situation has the potential to escalate very quickly.

"The Lebanese Army killed four gunmen who attacked one of its checkpoints in the southern city of Sidon, security sources told The Daily Star.

"Media reports said a Lebanese Army sergeant was killed after gunmen in a silver Range Rover SUV attacked an Army post in the Awali region of Sidon."

Sadly an Australian soldier was killed in the incident-- but I do not know of he /she was the only casualty. Another unnecessary death anyway.

From what I gather that was a separate incident. Poor Lebanon seems to be cursed with some very nasty micro-scale conflicts - Israel - the army - Hezbollah - Syria - Islamists -with the UN tied up in there too..

Regarding the border shooting - it looks like Israel has confirmed the death, but is apparently playing down the event.
