(PhysOrg.com) -- Industrial hemp, which grows in infertile soils, is attractive as a potential source of sustainable diesel fuel.
Of all the various uses for Cannabis plants, add another, “green” one to the mix.
Researchers at UConn have found that the fiber crop Cannabis sativa, known as industrial hemp, has properties that make it viable and even attractive as a raw material, or feedstock, for producing biodiesel – sustainable diesel fuel made from renewable plant sources.
The plant’s ability to grow in infertile soils also reduces the need to grow it on primary croplands, which can then be reserved for growing food, says Richard Parnas, a professor of chemical, materials, and biomolecular engineering who led the study.
“For sustainable fuels, often it comes down to a question of food versus fuel,” says Parnas, noting that major current biodiesel plants include food crops such as soybeans, olives, peanuts, and rapeseed. “It’s equally important to make fuel from plants that are not food, but also won’t need the high-quality land.”
Industrial hemp is grown across the world, in many parts of Europe and Asia. Fiber from the plant’s stalk is strong, and until the development of synthetic fibers in the 1950s, it was a premier product used worldwide in making rope and clothing.
Today, there are still parts of the world that rely on Cannabis stalks as a primary fiber, mainly because of its ability to grow “like a weed,” without requiring lots of water, fertilizers, or high-grade inputs to flourish. But the seeds, which house the plant’s natural oils, are often discarded. Parnas points out that this apparent waste product could be put to good use by turning it into fuel.

How refreshing. But then, Big-Agra/Oil/most_everything has waged an 80 year campaign against hemp.
Bio-fuel from Corn, etc is a non-starter anyway. Just not efficient enough, and requires land too valuable for the purpose. If the US turned the entire great plains into corn for bio-fuel, the country would still have to import oil.
It would also starve to death.
What's needed is a hijacking here ;)

Hemp is the salvation its like the does it all miracle plant that can produce so many different subproducts, what it does is amazing it could help save regenerate this planet at extremely fast speeds, but most govt's around the world dont give a crap about it and marginalize the plant as a drug, its a freaking joke sadly.

Yep. I'm sure there are many, many ways to drive a combustion engine, but it's only reinventing the wheel as far as I'm concerned, as combustion is, and has been outdated technology for some time now. We don't need a change of fuel source, we need a change of civilization.

I've wanted to write a book about this topic for a long time. Start from the very beginning of the plants history, take it to present day. Propaganda machine, Anslinger and his timber industry connections, so on so forth.
Trees take 20 years to grow.....hemp grows in 6 months. Year round in some locations........hmmmmmm lol

Hemp is a good source for biodiesel, but algae will be the long-term solution. Algae is practically solar powered and can self-replicate in remote desert areas with nothing but water in a closed loop system. There are however some problems, such as the current regulations and how friggin expensive it is to become compliant for small-scale production. And, when I say compliant, I mean nothing less than an operation the size of BP. Big oil does not want this to happen and there is now a ton of regulations on biodiesel on top of what is necessary for diesel. For example, in California, it is no longer legal to store biodiesel in underground tanks. This means that no gas stations will sell it and the only places are co-ops that are not running for a profit and a few people who operate illegally out of their garage. In addition, all of the used feed source is fed to the livestock instead of going to biodiesel production. Imagine the irony ... the President and administration go to war because to control oil in the Middle East when we are literally giving our domestic food source to the farm animals. In addition, the real cost of fuel in the US is the same as it is in Europe -- around $8/gallon, the only difference is that it is heavily subsidized by Uncle Same (or in other words, we're already paying for it, most of us just don't know it).

This is the film that the United States government does not want you to see. This is the film that contains the facts about one movement... one man... and one miraculous plant that could revolutionize the world. The best-selling book The Emperor Wears No Clothes blew the lid off the anti-hemp conspiracy and explained all there is to know about an easy-to-grow plant with infinite, non-intoxicating uses.
Why is hemp illegal? The information is in this film, and you won't believe.
This video is about a man's fight for truth, justice and a plant. What began as a singular battle has turned into a massive movement to educate America about this environmentally beneficial plant. "Emperor of Hemp" exposes government and big-business efforts to keep the plant illegal, and takes you to the front lines of the pro-hemp movement.
Meet the "Emperor of Hemp," Jack Herer, the man behind "The Emperor Wears No Clothes." Find out how his passionate journey began. Discover how he overcame hurdle after hurdle. Cheer his ultimate vindication. Narrated by Peter Coyote, "Emperor of Hemp" could change the world ... if the American public finally realizes "The Emperor Wears No Clothes."

No offence, but it's a crap film, and justification for anyone that wants a joint. Whoo hoo.
Can I ask......... In a new world, a new beginning, would you honestly recommend to your kids, the beautiful-child-miracle you hold in your arms when they're first born, to play with these toys? To smoke, to drink, to meet the person you get it from and be introduced to other bits of kit that are a natural follow-on to try when you're off your head? So if not as a baby, when exactly would the 'time' be OK?
Wouldn't you prefer to use your past mistakes to make you more determined to live life how we know, deep down, is intended? Would you really take your children by the hand and lead them to these things? Damn, I sound like a Bible thumper, but it scares me to death that this crap can still be perpetuated.
I only know that if I want to connect with my 'self', if I want fresh, sparkling eyes to look towards my future, and mine and my kids progress, there are no answers to be found in these things. There's only regret.
Haven't we learnt a damn thing? I am a hypocrite, by the way. Please don't let your children think all of this crap is 'alright', it's complete ****e.

Weed... is like driving a car to the door that has the answer.
The weed can get you close to the door, but you have to travel through the door on your own ---with no weed.
People get lazy and imagine the weed will take them through the door they sense is there.
It will not.
They get lost in the moment of 'now' that the confusion of a good strong weed can bring them. To forget the worries of the day, whatever the case may be.
The difficult thing to to understand that there is much more, beyond the weed. Much much more.
What lies beyond has no cost ---but your dedication. I'm one to talk myself, but I'm aware that weed can only take you part of the way. The rest....one must walk to and obtain on their own. It is simply not to be found in the weed.
There is no easy to press button of a freedom trip hiding in the weed. The universe is not organized that way. It is a great signpost, but don't get lost in it.

I've smoked my fair share in my life, but have to agree with Carmody on this. I have even had the most incredible meditation experiences while under the influence of THC. It is not really physically harmful at all (except as any inhaled substance - far safer than tobacco ... despite the propaganda), but regular use was obviously never intended by nature, as it is quite detrimental to ones spiritual advancement, even though a few experiences may initially indicate otherwise. In my opinion pot is an excellent experience, I can even recommend if you have the inclination and availability (and free time) give it a try, but avoid regular use. I have to say the same with alcohol, I have a hard time with this one myself because I really like my beer (I'm Canadian after all), but regular use sets me back spiritually, and psychic ability wise.
In the spirit od Carmody's post ... weed .. it is like much religion (MHO), gets you to the door, but that's it.

ok sorry, getting Ron Paul's comment much better .. and I totally agree ... it's not even about the money .. it's about why the hell is one of the most useful plants illegal to manufacture and sell from ... -paper, cloth, so much uses - totally sustainable ... huge risk to chemical and plastics co's though (TPTB income obviously) ...pure shame... and I won't even get into the medicine aspect (although this is the THC aspect and I suppose is different) ... and my father has cancer .... pot is a symptom reliever, if not a cure ... if only I can convince him to look at the research ...

Hi everyone,
I am writing an informative essay on Hemp and I am only allowed to use scholarly work/research for support. My professor doesn't think I will be able to find anything good or credible about Hemp since she thinks Hemp IS Marijuana, and if there is any research then it was done by some low-life pot smoker. I told her if that's true then I'd be happy to take a zero for my grade since "legalizing marijuana" was a banned topic; Even though Hemp is technically not marijuana, I know. I need both the pros and cons of the uses of Hemp, although I'm pretty damn confident there are no cons. Thank you very much and I hope to get some good feedback.

Simple Google search my man. There is so much information on Marijuana on the net it boggles the mind. Also, do a search here as I remember there being a very uplifting short documentary about a guy who used hemp oil to cure his skin cancer and video documented his progress for all the non-believers. Good luck with your paper. You should post it here when you are done writing it. I'd say there are quite a few of us here that understand the positive effects of...wait, what were we talking about?

As a Green jobs representative and a knowlege of horticulture, hemps fibers are softer than cotton's hense the reason Dow and textile companies are against it. It's a renewable energy source that produces a stronger octain fuel for cars for max performance and is a quick growth product.
The American Medical Association had a two hour lecture on the beneficiality of marijuana for patients on the NORML.org site. Police Dept officials and cops have a site called LEAP Law Enforcement Against Prohibition because they say it's too much paperwork, the people aren't harming anyone, takes time to process so many, courts overloaded with fines and doing fine locking up non-violent personal choice voters who don't handle alcohol well, but still need to unwind from the grind of everyday scramble. Also HBO or Starz had a documentary on people that had seizures, and episodes of muscle disfunction that testify that marijuana eases the seizures and helps the shaking in people like Michael J Fox who have to calm their nerve endings and pains. The documentary was called: "In Pot We Trust" a medical marijuana documentary by patients. Also There are parts of mj that kill cancer cells, as it is more natural for the body than lab created pharmaceuticals and eases pain in minutes as well as severe nausea that chemotherapy causes. It aids the patient's appetite increase, when most feel so lousy after chemo, they take days to gain it back, and they don't feel that weak and wrong out feeling, as with chemotherapy. There are doctors who had children that had cancer and the professional md's gave the child either a pill of it, or had it filtered in a room like a vapor, and the children were able to eat regular meals with little or NO vomiting and weakness.
I hope the sites are a help. They were for me.
PS the cost of incarceration since the public/private crony contractors took over the jail system and put it on wall street, is breaking the tax payers future more than this President. More than 800,000 a year in hasseling the public for a harmless habit.

Your teacher doesn't sound very open minded to the suffering of this law on patients. Be careful, the ptw are in schools also and some bible thumpers don't take too kindly to being corrected, or disproven in a class. Also, don't expect an A because sometimes they let that bias overrule judgement. Ask your parents what they feel about the project if they too aren't part of the "Reefer Madness generation of mindless fear and discrimination against the Mexicans who bought it in when they worked the fields. Farming is back breaking work, who can afford a doctor or rub ointment or take pain pills all day?
Just another way of looking at it. Your parents will be more honest, and so far the only thing holding it up from legalization is the fact that "they want the children, teens in high school to fully develope their adult minds" before having access to pot. So it will probably be like alcohol laws but not nearly as dangerous as alcohol. You'll see, saner people who see the destruction of locking up productive tax paying citizens and breaking up families thru incarceration, is simply not worth it when so many more other more dangerous and urgent crimes are being committed.
If they put as much effort in the human trafficking as they do busting pot smokers, there wouldn't be a sex trade.

Exactly where did the word "marijuana" come from? In the mid 1930s, the M-word was
created to tarnish the good image and phenomenal history of the hemp plant... as you
will read. The facts cited here, with references, are generally verifiable in the
Encyclopaedia Britannica which was printed on hemp paper for 150 years:
* All schoolbooks were made from hemp or flax paper until the 1880s; Hemp Paper
Reconsidered, Jack Frazier, 1974.
* It was LEGAL TO PAY TAXES WITH HEMP in America from 1631 until the early 1800s;
L.A. Times, Aug. 12, 1981.
* REFUSING TO GROW HEMP in America during the 17th and 18th Centuries WAS AGAINST
THE LAW! You could be jailed in Virginia for refusing to grow hemp from 1763 to
1769; Hemp in Colonial Virginia, G. M. Herdon.
* George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers GREW HEMP;
Washington and Jefferson Diaries. Jefferson smuggled hemp seeds from China to France
then to America.
* Benjamin Franklin owned one of the first paper mills in America and it processed
hemp. Also, the War of 1812 was fought over hemp. Napoleon wanted to cut off
Moscow's export to England; Emperor Wears No Clothes, Jack Herer.
* For thousands of years, 90% of all ships' sails and rope were made from hemp. The
word 'canvas' is Dutch for hemp; Webster's New World Dictionary.
* 80% of all textiles, fabrics, clothes, linen, drapes, bed sheets, etc. were made
from hemp until the 1820s with the introduction of the cotton gin.
* The first Bibles, maps, charts, Betsy Ross's flag, the first drafts of the
Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were made from hemp; U.S.
Government Archives.
* The first crop grown in many states was hemp. 1850 was a peak year for Kentucky
producing 40,000 tons. Hemp was the largest cash crop until the 20th Century; State
Archives.
* Oldest known records of hemp farming go back 5000 years in China, although hemp
industrialization probably goes back to ancient Egypt.
* Rembrandts, Gainsborough?s, Van Gogh?s as well as most early canvas paintings were
principally painted on hemp linen.
* In A. D. 1916, the U.S. Government predicted that by the 1940s all paper would
come from hemp and that no more trees need to be cut down. Government studies report
that 1 acre of hemp equals 4.1 acres of trees. Plans were in the works to implement
such programs; Department of Agriculture
* Quality paints and varnishes were made from hemp seed oil until 1937. 58,000 tons
of hemp seeds were used in America for paint products in 1935; Sherman Williams
Paint Co. testimony before Congress against the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act.
* Henry Ford's first Model-T was built to run on hemp gasoline and the CAR ITSELF
WAS CONTRUCTED FROM HEMP! On his large estate, Ford was photographed among his hemp
fields. The car, 'grown from the soil,' had hemp plastic panels whose impact
strength was 10 times stronger than steel; Popular Mechanics, 1941.
* Hemp called 'Billion Dollar Crop.' It was the first time a cash crop had a
business potential to exceed a billion dollars; Popular Mechanics, Feb., 1938.
* Mechanical Engineering Magazine (Feb. 1938) published an article entitled 'The
Most Profitable and Desirable Crop that Can be Grown.' It stated that if hemp was
cultivated using 20th Century technology, it would be the single largest
agricultural crop in the U.S. and the rest of the world.
The following information comes directly from the United States Department of
Agriculture's 1942 14-minute film encouraging and instructing 'patriotic American
farmers' to grow 350,000 acres of hemp each year for the war effort:
'...(When) Grecian temples were new, hemp was already old in the service of mankind.
For thousands of years, even then, this plant had been grown for cordage and cloth
in China and elsewhere in the East. For centuries prior to about 1850, all the ships
that sailed the western seas were rigged with hempen rope and sails. For the sailor,
no less than the hangman, hemp was indispensable...
...Now with Philippine and East Indian sources of hemp in the hands of the
Japanese...American hemp must meet the needs of our Army and Navy as well as of our
industries...
...the Navy's rapidly dwindling reserves. When that is gone, American hemp will go
on duty again; hemp for mooring ships; hemp for tow lines; hemp for tackle and gear;
hemp for countless naval uses both on ship and shore. Just as in the days when Old
Ironsides sailed the seas victorious with her hempen shrouds and hempen sails. Hemp
for victory!'
Certified proof from the Library of Congress; found by the research of Jack Herer,
refuting claims of other government agencies that the 1942 U.S.D.A. film 'Hemp for
Victory' did not exist.
Hemp cultivation and production do not harm the environment. The U.S.D.A. Bulletin
#404 concluded that hemp produces 4 times as much pulp as wood with at least 4 to 7
times less pollution.
From Popular Mechanics, Feb. 1938:
'It has a short growing season...It can be grown in any state...The long roots
penetrate and break the soil to leave it in perfect condition for the next year's
crop. The dense shock of leaves, 8 to 12 feet above the ground, chokes out weeds.
...hemp, this new crop can add immeasurably to American agriculture and industry.'
In the 1930s, innovations in farm machinery would have caused an industrial
revolution when applied to hemp. This single resource could have created millions of
new jobs generating thousands of quality products. Hemp, if not made illegal, would
have brought America out of the Great Depression.
William Randolph Hearst (Citizen Kane) and the Hearst Paper Manufacturing Division
of Kimberly Clark owned vast acreage of timberlands. The Hearst Company supplied
most paper products. Patty Hearst's grandfather, a destroyer of nature for his own
personal profit, stood to lose billions because of hemp.
In 1937, Dupont patented the processes to make plastics from oil and coal. Dupont's
Annual Report urged stockholders to invest in its new petrochemical division.
Synthetics such as plastics, cellophane, celluloid, methanol, nylon, rayon, Dacron,
etc., could now be made from oil. Natural hemp industrialization would have ruined
over 80% of Dupont's business.
***** THE TRICKS *****
Andrew Mellon became Hoover's Secretary of the Treasury and Dupont's primary
investor. He appointed his future nephew-in-law, Harry J. Anslinger, to head the
Federal Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.
Secret meetings were held by these financial tycoons. Hemp was declared dangerous
and a threat to their billion dollar enterprises. For their dynasties to remain
intact, hemp had to go. These men took an obscure Mexican slang word: 'marihuana'
and pushed it into the consciousness of America.
***** MEDIA MANIPULATION *****
A media blitz of "yellow journalism" raged in the late 1920s and 1930s. Hearst's
newspapers ran stories emphasizing the horrors of marihuana. The menace of marihuana
made headlines. Readers learned that it was responsible for everything from car
accidents to loose morality.
Films like 'Reefer Madness' (1936), 'Marihuana: Assassin of Youth' (1935) and
'Marihuana: The Devil's Weed' (1936) were propaganda designed by these
industrialists to create an enemy. Their purpose was to gain public support so that
anti-marihuana laws could be passed.
Examine the following quotes from 'The Burning Question' aka REEFER MADNESS:
*a violent narcotic.
*acts of shocking violence.
*incurable insanity.
*soul-destroying effects.
*under the influence of the drug he killed his entire family with an axe.
*more vicious, more deadly even than these soul-destroying drugs (heroin, cocaine)
is the menace of marihuana!
Reefer Madness did not end with the usual 'the end.' The film concluded with these
words plastered on the screen: TELL YOUR CHILDREN.
In the 1930s, people were very naive; even to the point of ignorance. The masses
were like sheep waiting to be led by the few in power. They did not challenge
authority. If the news was in print or on the radio, they believed it had to be
true. They told their children and their children grew up to be the parents of the
baby-boomers.
On April 14, 1937, the Prohibitive Marihuana Tax Law or the bill that outlawed hemp
was directly brought to the House Ways and Means Committee. This committee is the
only one that can introduce a bill to the House floor without it being debated by
other committees. The Chairman of the Ways and Means, Robert Doughton, was a Dupont
supporter. He insured that the bill would pass Congress.
Dr. James Woodward, a physician and attorney, testified too late on behalf of the
American Medical Association. He told the committee that the reason the AMA had not
denounced the Marihuana Tax Law sooner was that the Association had just discovered
that marihuana was/is hemp.
Few people, at the time, realized that the deadly menace they had been reading about
on Hearst's front pages was in fact passive hemp. The AMA understood hemp to be a
MEDICINE found in numerous healing products sold over the last hundred years.
In September of 1937, hemp became illegal. The most useful crop known became a drug
and our planet has been suffering ever since.
Congress banned hemp because it was said to be the most violence-causing drug known.
Anslinger, head of the Drug Commission for 31 years, promoted the idea that
marihuana made users act extremely violent. In the 1950s, under the Communist threat
of McCarthyism, Anslinger now said the exact opposite. Marijuana will pacify you so
much that soldiers would not want to fight.
Today, our planet is in desperate trouble. Earth is suffocating as large tracts of
rain forests disappear. Pollution, poisons and chemicals are killing people. These
great problems could be reversed if we industrialized hemp. Natural biomass could
provide all of the planet's energy needs that are currently supplied by fossil
fuels. We have consumed 80% of our oil and gas reserves. We need a renewable
resource. Hemp could be the solution to soaring gas prices.
***** THE WONDER PLANT *****
Hemp has a higher quality fiber than wood fiber. Far fewer caustic chemicals are
required to make paper from hemp than from trees. Hemp paper does not turn yellow
and is very durable. The plant grows quickly to maturity in a season where trees
take a lifetime.
ALL PLASTIC PRODUCTS SHOULD BE MADE FROM HEMP SEED OIL.
Hempen plastics are biodegradable! Over time, they would break down and not harm the
environment. Oil-based plastics, the ones we are very familiar with, help ruin
nature; they do not break down and will do great harm in the future. The process to
produce the vast array of natural (hempen) plastics will not ruin the rivers as
Dupont and other petrochemical companies have done. Ecology does not fit in with the
plans of the Oil Industry and the political machine. Hemp products are safe and
natural.
MEDICINES SHOULD BE MADE FROM HEMP.
We should go back to the days when the AMA supported hemp cures. 'Medical Marijuana'
is given out legally to only a handful of people while the rest of us are forced
into a system that relies on chemicals. Hemp is only healthy for the human body.
WORLD HUNGER COULD END.
A large variety of food products can be generated from hemp. The seeds contain one
of the highest sources of protein in nature. ALSO: They have two essential fatty
acids that clean your body of cholesterol. These essential fatty acids are not found
anywhere else in nature! Consuming hemp seeds is the best thing you could do for
your body. Eat uncooked hemp seeds.
CLOTHES SHOULD BE MADE FROM HEMP. Hemp clothing is extremely strong and durable over
time. You could hand clothing, made from hemp, down to your grandchildren. Today,
there are American companies that make hemp clothing; usually 50% hemp. Hemp fabrics
should be everywhere. Instead, they are almost underground. Superior hemp products
are not allowed to advertise on fascist television. Kentucky, once the top hemp
producing state, made it ILLEGAL TO WEAR hemp clothing! Can you imagine being thrown
into jail for wearing quality jeans?
The world is crazy...but that does not mean you have to join the insanity. Get
together. Spread the news. Tell people, and that includes your children, the
truth. Use hemp products. Eliminate the word "marijuana". Realize the history that
created it. Make it politically incorrect to say or print the M-word. Fight
against the propaganda (designed to favor the agenda of the super rich) and the
bull****. Hemp must be utilized in the future. We need a clean energy source to
save our planet. INDUSTRIALIZE HEMP!
The liquor, tobacco and oil companies fund more than a million dollars a day to
Partnership for a Drug-Free America and other similar agencies. We have all seen
their commercials. Now, their motto is: 'It's more dangerous than we thought.' Lies
from the powerful corporations, that began with Hearst, are still alive and well
today.
The brainwashing continues. Now, the commercials say: If you buy a joint, you
contribute to murders and gang wars. The latest anti-hemp commercials say: If you
buy a joint...you are promoting TERRORISM! The new enemy (terrorism) has paved the
road to brainwash you any way THEY see fit.
There is only one enemy; the "friendly" people you pay your taxes to: the war-makers
and nature destroyers. With your funding, they are killing the world right in front
of your eyes. HALF A MILLION DEATHS EACH YEAR ARE CAUSED BY TOBACCO. HALF A MILLION
DEATHS EACH YEAR ARE CAUSED BY ALCOHOL.
Ingesting THC, hemp's active agent, has a positive effect; relieving asthma and
glaucoma. A joint tends to alleviate the nausea caused by chemotherapy. You are
able to eat on hemp. This is a healthy state of being.
The hemp plant is an ALIEN plant.
There is physical evidence that hemp is not like any other plant on this planet. One
could conclude that it was brought here for the benefit of humanity. Hemp is the
ONLY plant where the males appear one way and the females appear very different,
physically! No one ever speaks of males and females in regard to the plant kingdom
because plants do not show their sexes; except for hemp. To determine what sex a
certain, normal, Earthly plant is: You have to look internally, at its DNA. A male
blade of grass (physically) looks exactly like a female blade of grass. The hemp
plant has an intense sexuality.
HEMP IS AND WAS MADE ILLEGAL BECAUSE BILLIONAIRES WANT TO REMAIN BILLIONAIRES!
MOST OF ALL - THEY ARE DEATHLY AFRAID OF YOU BECOMING AN ENLIGHTENED BEING -
KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR TRUE NATURE - THEN, YOU ARE CONSIDERED DANGEROUS TO THE SYSTEM,
BECAUSE YOU DON'T MAKE A GOOD SLAVE ANYMORE....
OOPS! - Game Over
Personal note, my son basically can't walk because of nerve damage to his spine. The only thing that gives him any pain relief whatsoever is hemp...and he's tried all that big pharma has to offer in the way of pain relief.

This is a must-watch video featuring some of the top researchers on the healing effects of Cannabis (Marijuana) in it's raw form, eaten or juiced.
Eating raw cannabis as medicine, dietary essential: new research
Cannabis is a dietary essential that helps all cell types function more effectively.
Is a medicine: anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, probably has some direct activity against cancerous cells.
This plant can do phenomenal things, but not if [you aren't taking a high enough dose].
Cannabis is the most important vegetable in the world.

"Banned topic" that is so ridiculous. I went to college in 2008 and dropped out before the end of my first semester. My english 101 course we had a final 12 page research paper, we had to pick our topics from a list! I was dumbfounded, but I wrote my paper on what I wanted to. So I turned in a really in depth 15 page paper on the United States drug war. My teacher gave me a 0, because my "topic wasnt on the list". She asked me if I wanted to do a "re do" since I obviously put time and effort into my original one. I said no because I am not returning to school. There is no way I am going in debt to pay for what amounts to mostly a bogus education.
With that being said I still believe in the concept of higher education and college can still be worth it if you do it right. Teachers are like cops there is a whole mess of terrible ones but there some really good ones too.
There is plenty of info on hemp usage. Your paper shouldnt be hard at all. good luck.

Hello Jason4444: Sounds like a great subject to write on! In Canada there is a company in Ontario reviving Hemp growing for the making clothes. Years ago blue jeans were made from hemp and lasted at least 10 times longer than cotton blue jeans of today. It was the strongest rope and the list goes on of the products made with Hemp. Bottom line is it was too good and made making a profit difficult since people didn't wear out items made with it as fast.
There was a kibosh put on growing Hemp due to the Powers that be thought everyone was going to get high. Unfortunately there is NO THC in Hemp that is grown in Canada at least.
There are fields of Hemp growing here and you don't see everyone sneeking into the fields for a good stash of smoke. The cops obviously are not thinking correctly if they are busting anyone for Hemp. (It's completely different than marijuana since marijuana does contains THC.)
Obviously people are interchanging the words HEMP and MARIJUANA for the same thing and they are not the same thing.
Enjoy reading and watching all the videos on Hemp. Very educational.

PS My dad is 90 and he remembers all the hemp products. I asked him why it was banned. He said it was because it lasted so long. Companies wanted something to fall apart alot fast.....thus cotton products.

Seriously? This is a professor? As demonstrated in these posts the amount of available data is simply staggering and the only way a person could have this position is if they failed to do even the slightest amount of research. It is truly a sad statement that this comes from someone that is supposed to be "educated."
For 10,000 years of human history the most useful plant on the planet has been hemp, right up until the 1930s when it directly threatened the oil industry. It can be used to make food, medicine, bio-degradable non-toxic plastic, fuel, paper, cardboard, cloth, on and on and on. It cures cancer, provides pain relief, and while over a thousand people a year die from aspirin and you can kill yourself drinking too much water, never in recorded history has anyone ever died from smoking pot.
I bet your professor thinks we live in a democracy too. :)

If nylon wasn't "discovered" and if the elite didn't own the chemical giants, we'd still be making sails and rope from hemp, we'd have clothes made of hemp and paper made of hemp - the ultimate renewable resource. Chemicals pollute, and make the elite richer, trees take 25 years to replenish - hemp, a few months. The cotton mfgrs wanted hemp illegal too. All you have to do is lobby the gov't and set up a swiss bank account -- done! How else do you think laws are made? ;)

There is tumultuous speculation on alternative energy and fuel sources these days. Here is a look at one that's already been put into practice! Hemp fuel is a sustainable, natural resource. The use of it promotes a means of appropriate stewardship of the Earth's resources.
Hemp fuel is a way out of oil! Planting only 6 percent of the continental United States with biomass crops such as hemp would supply all current domestic demands for oil and gas. Hemp fuel is a real alternative.
Did you know the average American spends 33 of 40 working hours to support their need for energy? It's true; 80 percent of the total monetary living expense for everything we do is ultimately wrapped up in energy costs; from the energy it takes to make the food we eat, to fuel for the cars we drive, to the manufacturing, storage and transportation of the products we buy. And 80 percent of solid and airborne pollution in our environment can be blamed on fossil energy sources. It is estimated that America has already exhausted 80 percent of its fossil fuel reserves. Isnt this a recipe for disaster? Hemp fuel is needed.
Industrial hemp is the number one biomass producer on earth, meaning an actual contender for an economically competitive, clean burning hemp fuel. Hemp has four times the biomass and cellulose potential and eight times the methanol potential of its closest competing crop - corn. Burning coal and oil are the greatest sources of acid rain; biomass fuels burn clean and contain no sulphur and produce no ash during combustion. The cycle of growing and burning biomass crops keeps the worlds carbon dioxide level at perfect equilibrium, which means that we are less likely to experience the global climactic changes (greenhouse effect). Hemp oil is the source for hemp fuel.

ENGL 1308.073
Draft 2.1
There are many more problems, which we as a global society must face today then we have ever faced in the history of humanity. Oil spills, nuclear reactor meltdowns leading to massive radiation contamination, and genetically modified crops are just a few major issues in which we as a global society put up with in order to survive. Along with these horrid environmental externalities, however, is something completely unrelated but just as devastating, if not deadlier, and that is the financial crisis, which engulfs the majority of all recognized countries in the world. This global financial crisis combined with the many episodes of environmental destruction can be seen as one massive recipe for utter disaster that will impact every human being on this Earth. Researchers and scientists have been desperately trying to find some kind of natural resource that is self-sustaining, nonpolluting, and has an economical capability to put people suffering from this financial crisis back to work with little to no risk of losing their jobs all over again. It is safe to say that one such resource does exist which meets these criteria with ease, however, there is one big problem; it is illegal in most countries of the world. There is much controversy surrounding Hemp, a variety of the well-known Cannabis Sativa plant, as many governments consider it to be interconnected with Marihuana, the intoxicating component of Cannabis Sativa. However, in regards to the impending global financial meltdown and rapidly rising instances of severe environmental destruction/contamination, it is safe to say that Hemp, having such an immense level of efficacy, being astoundingly benign towards its habitat, and requiring little to no human interference, albeit the spraying of extremely toxic chemicals to enhance plant growth and productivity, can be seen as a potentially viable option in helping reduce the environmental pollution and destruction around the world as well as playing a role aiding in the reverse of the global financial crisis.
Hemp is not some agricultural phenomenon that has recently been subjected to public controversy, as most people would believe. It instead has an immense history as a flourishing transformative commodity. Taking into account some background information on the Hemp plant and the global financial crisis is essential in understanding the logic of my argument as it puts into context the practicality as well as the economical effectiveness of the plant as a single commodity. As stated by Jean M. Rawson in his congressional report to congress titled “Hemp as an Agricultural Commodity,” for centuries, Hemp “has been a source of fiber and oilseed used worldwide to produce a variety of industrial and consumer products” (1). Now, regarding the current global financial crisis, which can be seen as a result from decades of following inherently faulty debt based monetary systems, many countries and industries worldwide have and are continuing to suffer the consequences of debt. There are many kinds of industries and usually each industry buys many raw materials, single commodities, and natural resources i.e. cotton, coal, copper, oil, natural gas, wood, etc. in order to create and sell its own kinds of products. When an industry can no longer meet the demand of its buyers because it cannot afford such a variety of materials and resources it needs, it is inevitable that it will fail, and subsequently impact the economy of a country negatively. Hemp on the other hand, is a raw material, natural resource, and single commodity that can create many different products without the need for other variables.
The scale of the many different products that can be created from the Hemp plant as well as its reliability to self-sustain is so substantial that in the event of worldwide decriminalization, Hemp industries would be established around the world, and would effectively create new areas of economic growth in a struggling world economy. Pauline Sullivan, author of an article titled “Sustainable Development: Building a Case for Hemp” indicates that there are approximately “25,000 different products that can be made from industrial Hemp” (3). This staggering number of different products made from a single plant can safely be assumed to be of immense value to a financial market because, after all, a plant can be grown and regrown, therefore making it a renewable resource. With today’s global society’s absolute dependence on nonrenewable resources, it is logical to say that eventually these nonrenewable resources will run out, hence the non in nonrenewable. When this happens it will be evident that the majority of global industries, being based on the use of nonrenewable resources, will inevitably transform into a basket case of failing industries. Elaborating on the variety of products that can be made from industrial Hemp, Sullivan indicates that it can be used to make “apparel products, paper, cosmetics, carpets and other home furnishings, textiles, salad oil, construction materials, and biodegradable auto parts…[and these are only a few of the many kinds of consumer products that can be made]” (Sullivan 3). As mentioned in the middle of this paragraph, Hemp is a plant, and a plant can be grown and regrown for as long as the cultivator wants to grow it. The fear in which a resource or raw material required by an industry to make its products eventually becoming depleted, thus forcing that industry to find it somewhere else or in the worst case scenario, forcing the industry to fail; would effectively be abolished as Hemp is renewable and self-sustaining with the ability to supply whatever industries require of it. In addition to these two properties of Hemp, it is important to know the growth rate of Hemp as it the most important aspect of the plant that would contribute to economic growth in a struggling world economy. Skaindra Smith-Heisters, a policy analyst at the University of California, indicated in her research article titled “ Illegally Green: Environmental Costs of Hemp Prohibition,” that industrial Hemp grown for fiber has a “maturation rate of 90 days,” and when grown for seed the crop takes approximately “30 to 45 additional days” to fully mature (8). This relatively short time between seeding and harvesting opens up a large number of possibilities for complimentary crop rotation (Heisters). In other words, depending on the climate, especially if it is mostly sunny with moderate rainfall like a good portion of the world is, there can be at least two to three harvests a year. Hemp’s growth rate compared to other agricultural commodities’ like cotton and flax, which are harvested one time annually regardless of climate, seems to point towards its overwhelming capability to create a surplus of supply, which in essence means that it is industrially self-sustaining and will effectively promote economic growth where ever it is grown.
When Hemp is being grown, the use of performance enhancing chemicals that are sprayed on many of todays’ agricultural crops are rarely needed, which naturally means that the growing of Hemp is environmentally friendly. Earnest Small and David Marcus, two authors of a research article titled “Hemp: A New Crop with New Uses for North America,” both indicate that Hemp is known to be “exceptionally resistant to pests” (315). When a plant is inherently well resistant to pests, which are tide turners in the respect that too many could completely wipe out a year’s work of cultivating and severely devastate a farmer’s economical wellbeing, then it is evident that the use of super toxic pesticides will not be needed. Pesticides are known to contribute to eutrophication by leaching from the soil causing damage to the environment (Heisters). Eutrophication to some may be considered as a good thing because it speeds up the deposition of natural nutrients due to runoff from rain into a body of water in an artificial way leading to excessive algae growth, but when these algae die the increasing levels of organic matter and decomposing organisms deplete the water of available oxygen, causing the deaths of other organisms, such as fish (Small & Marcus 315). Another kind of chemicals, which Hemp usually does not require are Herbicides. This is because when grown for fiber, “industrial Hemp crops are seeded at very high densities, and the plants’ rapid growth crowds out most weed species that might be present in the field” (Heisters 8). Herbicides are also contributors to artificial eutrophication, and when combined with Pesticides as well as fertilizers, a severe case of excessive eutrophication can be seen. What also should be taken into account about excessive eutrophication is that the people in many cities around the world obtain their drinking water from overly eutrophicated bodies of water, which can become extremely poisonous the longer these bodies are left untreated. It is fair to say that the growing of Hemp does not contribute to any kind of pollution or damaging of the environment as it does not, and if so, then rarely require pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers to survive.
Aside from the process of growing Hemp being predominantly eco-friendly with rarely ever any toxic chemicals needing to be used, the thousands of products derived from the Hemp plant are indeed, environmentally friendly as well. Today’s commercial products and commodities, which have come to replace traditional uses of industrial Hemp over the last century and half have carried considerable environmental baggage that we as a global society today are just now starting to see the consequences (Heisters). Oil, by far, is the leading contributor to environmental pollution, and unfortunately it has become the bloodline of our thriving global society. However, it seems as though Hempseed oil can solve this dilemma. According to Richard Parnas, a leading researcher at the University of Connecticut, industrial Hemp has properties that make it “viable… for producing biodiesel – sustainable diesel fuel made from renewable plant sources” (Buckley). Oil is obtained from underground reservoirs, which can and do get depleted, and sometimes these reservoirs are located deep under the ocean. Oil spills are common instances of major environmental pollution as the reliability of the pipes used to extract the oil do not work so well under water. Oil is classified as a fossil fuel, and the burning of fossil fuels are known to contribute to a significant, if not all, of the air pollution worldwide. Hemp’s biodiesel, known as Cullulosic Ethanol, “could [also] reduce green house emissions more than 80% below traditional gasoline” (Heisters), and the combustion efficiency of Cellulosic Ethanol is just as adequate as gasoline (Buckley). This means that a car and essentially anything else run on gasoline would run just as smoothly on Cellulosic Ethanol. Though many skeptics would say that there are already alternatives to powering cars, there are none that are extraordinarily healthy when consumed. Cellulosic Ethanol has “all eight amino acids essential to the human diet, as well as others” (Small & Marcus 307). It also appears that Hemp fiber can be used to build houses as well as used for thermal insulation. This is important because with growing ecological concerns about conservation of non-renewable resources leading to rising energy costs, many families want to do as much as possible to keep their homes as efficient in energy conservation as possible. Hemp fiber can be loosely spun into compacted blocks for insulation as well as mixed with concrete and lime to effectively avoid rain erosion and heat loss (Small & Marcus 300).
It seems, however, that there are skeptics who believe otherwise in Hemp’s overall efficacy. The main argument against Hemp cultivation is the fact that it contains “THC, the psychoactive ingredient within Marihuana” (Thames 1). Marihuana, the flower of the Cannabis plant, it seems has a concentration of THC between 8 and 13%, a definite intoxicating amount. If Hemp were to become legal there would still be much confusion for law enforcement to differentiate the variety of it. There are two varieties of Cannabis Sativa: the industrialized Hemp variety, which is grown for its commercial properties, and the Narcotic variety, which is grown for its intoxicating properties. As stated by the United States Department of Agriculture in an Agricultural Economic report, “short of the chemical analysis of the THC content, there [is] no way to distinguish between marijuana and hemp varieties” (USDA 2). No way of distinguishing between the two varieties of Cannabis would create problems for law enforcement agencies as there could be a lawsuit filed if they happened to raid a legal Cannabis farm. However, there are now varieties of Hemp which contain less than 1% THC, which is the threshold of intoxicating potential (Sullivan 3). On top of this, it is quite easy to differentiate the two varieties just by looks. Industrial Hemp is at least 3 to 4 meters tall and has branching towards the top when fully matured. The narcotic variety is only about 1 meter tall and has branching from the very bottom of the stalk to the very top of it (Small & Marcus 288).
With the main argument against Hemp cultivation now defeated the question as to why the plant is still illegal in most parts of the world is brought to public controversy. With today’s horrid environmental externalities due to our global society’s utter dependence on inefficient and polluting fossil fuels as well as our demand for nonrenewable resources, the conclusion that Hemp could be a viable eco-friendly alternative is strengthened. The astoundingly diverse amount of commercial products that can be created from it and its growth rate also help to support the conclusion that it could become an economically growing industry in a economically distressed world.

Thank you for sharing your work with us, many excellent points made! I rally wish we could get past the anti-marijuana propoganda, many folks are fighting for legalization, but so many are so completely brainwashed that it's going to be a long hard battle.
I woukd love to see you put this information out there in video ( like using http://goanimate.com/ or something like that?)
Bravo & Thanks

I'm a very strong supporter of hemp, but I did not bother to read your OP, as it is one gigantic BLOCK of words. Gigantic blocks of words are very hard to read.
Please break up your gigantic block of words into far-smaller paragraphs, like 5 lines or less. No more than 5 lines, please.

Yes, my eyes glazed over... I had the same problem making my post in MS Word and the paragraph separations did not survive the cut and paste. I would re edit it and add some paragraph separators. Hemp, Hemp Hooray! lol.
But hemp must be legally cultivated somewhere in the world. I buy products made from hemp every day - paper (non bleached), bags, even clothing. It must be economical to produce because hemp products are cheaper.
Oh, your essay is about it being illegal in USA. Silly laws!
And, by the way, the laws prohibiting the use of marijuana are equally silly. Most legal drugs are far more dangerous, including alcohol! Illegal to use marijuana, illegal to drink alcohol and drive but not illegal to take a variety of OTC drugs and drive. Silly laws!
But seriously, a lot of resources are used against the war against these drugs and people end up in jail because of simply being in possession of a small amount of marijuana.
There was a memorable election in my country when a group of people formed a 'Legalise Marijuana' party. It was legitimate (they had one issue - to win a seat in parliament so that the legalise marijuana movement would gain legitimacy) but unfortunately they did not get enough votes to win a seat in parliament and so the government felt justified in shelving the issue.

You are absolutely on the money (pun intended) with this topic. Here in the US, the family farmer is hurting and a crop like hemp, which grows well in poor conditions is what they need. Here is a video about

i could be wrong but i believe thc is not psychoactive unless it gets heated. what that means is that if you juice raw cannabis leaves you won't get high, only healthy :o
maybe you want to look into this and include it in your essay. if it's correct it's an important point. i even believe that the unheated thc compound is one of the main reasons why cannabis is able to cure certain diseases such as cancer. i'm not sure about all of this though, haven't had time for a closer study yet.

If you just juice the leaves you taste greens, if you juice the bud you taste kites.
There is no need to heat it up to make the psychoactive ingredients do their job, endorsing the broccoli from space is not done here, but i guess you should try it yourself, dump some bud in ice water, stirr it abit to make the cristals fall off, make an ice pop from the water, add some lemonade for taste and happy kiting my friend.
PS, before doing this, stock up on groceries, you WILL be raiding the fridge and kitchen cabinets.
WHY before? Because after the pop you will be to lazy to get up out of your couch and have some serious munchies, which is exactly the reason why LOTS of people with chronic illnesses use it, to keep their weight on and prevent nausea wich in turn prevented them from eating, like in chemotherapy, aids and other ailments.
I have plenty of clients in the homeless shelter where i work who selfmedicate this way.

The THC is the psochoactive part, CBD and many other compounds found in the plant CAN have curing and pain relieving effects. The oil that can be extracted prom the bud (with gas, or solvents) is a cure for many ailments. The slight buzz can be experienced as a plus for some people.

The science is clear, HEMP is ALL pluses in term of environmentally friendliness and robustness, and its cost ROI on harvest, the quality and value of the materials it can produce, the medicinal, pharmacological value, the nutritional health benefits in particular the omega 3 fatty acids which are in dire need the world over due to mercury contamination of fish, and on and on.
Good to see that the truth is coming forward. But these facts were never overlooked by the elite business operators of the world. (just hidden from you and I all these years...) This was never the issue. It was the loss of political control that would result if people consumed this product and became more consciously aware of the world around them, kind of like when you turn the sound off on your television and you see a hidden dimension that you never noticed before... increased perception... that is what it is all about...
This is why it has been suppressed. Dr Michael Persinger, the father of mind control manipulation devices, military research contractor, and psychic phenomena proponent, stated emphatically that it is "well known" by those who study it that it is quite beneficial and not harmful at all... but then again that is probably why they stationed him up in Laurentian University in Thunder Bay, hidden away from the rest of the world, even though he could have had a post at any university in the world.

What about paper? In the 9th century the Chinese used paper armour (Robert Temple, The Genius of China, p.83). If you can use it for armour you can use it for just about anything, including paper aeroplanes :) After all, they already use it for money, as if money grew on trees...
Papercould be used for disposable clothing and bed linen, and the much-polluting laundry industry could be cut back. And if they were really seriously about carbon sequestration, you could bury the stuff in landfill.
Or you could build more libraries and let people educate themselves... The possibilities are endless.

Brilliant videos Tony,
I thought Hemp and the Cannabis plant were the same thing, I have been taught another lesson, not to listen to all that is said as some of it is LIES
the fact that this product could have been the fuel of choice is incredible, along with the many other uses of the hemp plant.
What another disaster for humanity, that this has been taken away from us by the greedy few.
Thanks again

Hemp seed oil has been dubbed, "Nature's most perfectly balanced oil" due to the fact that it contains the perfectly balanced 3:1 ratio of both the required essential fatty acids (EFAs) for long term human consumption. Omega 6 -Linoleic Acid (LA) : Omega 3 - Linolenic Acid (LNA). Hemp oil is also an excellent source of the LA derivative super-polyunsaturated Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) at 2.5-3% of volume*
Only Hemp seed oil contains Omega 6, Omega 3 and GLA
Only Hemp seed oil contains 75-80% polyunsaturated fatty acids - highest in the plant kingdom and unique among seed oils. Though flax oil is high in Omega 3, the perfect balance of hemp's EFAs allows your body to best digest the excellent properties in hemp oil.

It seems that the US government does not recognise the distinction between marijuana and the non-psychoactive Cannabis sativa which is used for industrial and commercial purposes.
Countries that export industrial hemp to the U.S. usually have a strict limit on the percent of THC present in a sample. Anything over 1 percent THC by weight would be considered marijuana. Industrial hemp usually has less than 0.3 percent THC by weight, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Marijuana grown for drugs typically has 3 to 15 percent THC by weight.
Federal law prohibits farmers from growing both marijuana and industrial hemp. But hemp products are legal in the United States. Companies that use hemp as an ingredient can legally import hemp. Bills supporting local industrial hemp in several states have aimed to undercut federal restrictions on farming.
But these bills, lawsuits, protests and formal petitions to the White House in recent years haven't changed the current federal law. In response to a formal petition to allow industrial hemp farming, a representative from the Obama administration wrote, “While most of the THC in cannabis plants is concentrated in the marijuana, all parts of the plant, including hemp, can contain THC, a Schedule I controlled substance.”

My father has been living with lung cancer for the last eight years or so -- it still hasn't healed ;) Next step - medicinal hemp oil! (he's finally fully on board). In BC, there has been a bit of silent movement, and there are doctors there handing out the needed recommendations for permits to possess and grow (medicinally). There is already an underground market particularly in BC for medicinal hemp oil along with recreational, but soon it will be less "underground". Due to the massive amounts of permits that have been obtained, my friend is predicting a flooded market, lower prices, and more people researching into it as it grows in the masses awareness about what this amazing plant can actually do for humanity.
Looking forward to see how the next year or so pans out in Canada in regards to hemp. We have to show the Harpy that Canada is a democracy and he works for US! ;)

Many people grow it now
Just do a you-tube video search of "how to grow marijuana" and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Just Google "buy marijuana seeds" and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Just do a Google search " hydroponics" and you will be pleasantly surprised how many commercial suppliers in your area to help you get started.

The noxious weed thing happens a lot - St Johns Wort is a noxious weed in Australia. Eradicate it or pay fines! I have a constant fight with Blackberries on my rural block - these are also Noxious weeds and I have to destroy them.

Super thanks WhiteFeather!! I will mind that my father has been LIVING (a reasonable quality life) with lung cancer in both lungs for over eight years! This does not happen in people who look to the "System" for their treatment -- in other words he has already been using some non - traditional - "non drug" treatments. I attribute the main influence to AHCC -- a medicinal mushroom extract. There is tonnes of scientific research behind AHCC for a cancer preventative. treatment, and even cure. Although anything to add to the arsenal is muchly appreciated.
I wouldn't consider this necessarily as an alternative to hemp -- but a supplement to it. Hemp has been shown in scientific studies to choke off blood supplies to tumors -- it is proven scientific peer reviewed fact - I have a certain access to studies not available to public. but the public info is fairly reliable as well. Hemp can be a cure for cancer. Maybe not in every case all the time -- but it does work and is proven to far beyond anecdotes.
Thanks again Whitefeather, like I said, every bit can potentially help, and how is not important as the happening itself!
If anyone else has viable options to consider, please be as helpful and forthcoming as Whitefeather! ;)

Interesting ...
To follow up a little on my posts above, It is clear to me now that the underground market medicinal hemp oil in western Canada is pretty huge! It is easily available as a distinguished product from recreational oil, and everyone in the "hemp culture" seems to be very aware of it and how to get it. Likely due in part to the efforts of Rick Simpson.
I now see that we are on the verge of a hemp revolution -- at least medicinally, but that will cause people to become aware, research and understand the vastly huge benefits this plant can bring to all humanity, minus Big Pharma / Big oil / Big Chemical -- but I'm sure everyone agrees those areas need to be taken down about ten notches. So, great news on all fronts!
Keep spreading the info on research behind hemp -- medicinally and industrially -- we only have gain to be had. ;)

Hemp is very useful. I'm not a user myself, but I have a great issue with any organic natural living entity that is made illegal. The Earth is wiser then we are. I do feel that hemp should be legalized and I am well aware of the medicinal properties that it holds. As an herbalist myself, I have a very difficult time with equating an enforced drug war with the many lives it costs to a natural growing living plant that has something to say.
As with anything, experience leads to knowledge. Temperance for those who partake is important, as well as being aware of entities that may take advantage of an altered state of mind. But in the long run, there are many beautiful qualities about hemp as a fibre, healer, builder, oxygenator, and awareness instigator to be ignored.

There is hemp that does not have any THC in it and then there is the hemp/marijuana medicinal plant. The two are different. The hemp powder that I use is just a food source and doesn't make you high. The hemp crops grown for oil, fiber and food sources are not used for medicinal marijuana :)

Here is an interesting experience I can share.
Many of you might be familiar with the disease called colitis and/or crohn's.
I have always suffered with this illness for aboout 40 years since I was was a teenager.
As a form of pain control for flareups my family doctor had historically given me codine in pill form.
Recently, he started to prescribe Nabilone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nabilone), which is a synthetic for of that active ingredient THC in marijuana.
I was quite taken back that my family doctor could so easily pick up his prescription pad and write me a prescription so easily.
When I filled the prescription, and took the recommended dosage, I was pleasantly surprised that it definitely has the affects as perhaps experienced when smoking marijuana.
The only major difference I found was that it takes at least an hour after taking the pill for any affect effects of the pill to work on pain control.
It does reduce pain when it does kick in, and it appears to last for at least 6 - 10 hours from a dose.
The only downfall, I would find is that it takes so long to kick in. As many are aware, if you are experiencing a sudden surge of pain, an hour wait for the pain control to kick in, can be
a bit hard to handle.
The reason, I am pointing this out, is that this may be an alternative for people wishing to use a more natural substance on their body compared to most pain medications such as codeine, Oxycontin, morphine, etc.
After all, you don't have to go through the normal paperwork for a medical marijuana certificate, if your doctor writes you a prescription for this.
Apparently, this has been available like this since 1984, but until my doctor gave me this choice, I was unaware of it.
Just some food for thought:wizard:

I read that Cannabis was made illegal the day after the prohibition was lifted, although I have never verified that. If true it is the most blatant evidence of organized crime at work.
There is a basic economic principle that some things have an inelastic demand. It can be for various reasons, for example it is so popular, or addictive, or novel, or rare, etc. Another is that is comprises such a small percentage of most people's income (think coffee, donuts, gum, salt, etc) that huge percentage increases in price have little effect on demand. This creates interesting situations in a purely for profit marketplace. It explains why all those things are so relatively expensive for one. In the case of something like alcohol or marijuana, both inelastic demand products, when taken out of public circulation "by definition" create BLACK MARKETS because the "demand" never ceases, it simply continues in another channel of distribution. i.e. it goes 'underground'.
The people back then understood this simple economic principle, just as the people do today.
It was a premeditated criminal act to make it illegal for the sole purpose of depriving the public, enriching the criminal syndicates and government coffers from all the "crimes" that could be executed as a result. (All crimes are commercial)
When the people wake up this will be common knowledge. Something tells me I am going to have to say this a few thousand more times before it becomes a public meme... (lol)
Do you want to reduce the overbearing power of the police and government, and reduce the money THEY make from organized crime? Stop making inelastic demand products "illegal". Reduce crime, reduce the power of the Pharmas, reduce the government power and enrich the lives of millions of people. Increase the productivity of the land. Improve the ecology of soil and air. Create jobs and save trees by producing one of the most versatile building materials on the planet.
Demand legalization of cannabis, hemp, marijuana, etc.
Power to the people. Government is my servant.

Yes.....In botanical terms, cannabis is the name given to a plant that has cannabinoids. Both hemp and marijuana as we know, are the family of cannabis. There are two main types of cannabinoids found in these plants, they are THC - psychoactive compound - and CBD - psychoactive compound anti-(anti-THC).
What we know as marijuana, has high levels of THC and / or CBD, as hemp has low levels of THC and CBD.

As far as I know its pretty much the same plant but one direction was bred for THC and the other for strength of fibres, resulting in reasonably substancial variations -- like how domestic garlic and wild garlic are similar but, the domestic is the result of gene isolation via selection, for larger bulbs and more/more pleasant, flavour/odour.
Industrial hemp these days contains almost no THC I think.

Colorado farmer harvests first U.S. commercial hemp crop in 56 years
denverpost.com (http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_24259474/colorado-farmer-harvests-first-u-s-commercial-hemp)
Colorado farmer Ryan Loflin made history last weekend by harvesting the nation's first commercial hemp crop in 56 years.
Hemp advocates said Loflin's harvest is a landmark event that could one day lead to larger-scale domestic farming of hemp for industrial uses such as food additives, cosmetics and building materials.
Hemp is genetically related to marijuana but contains only trace amounts of THC, the psychoactive substance that gets marijuana users high.
Loflin's 55-acre crop in southeastern Colorado's Baca County won't yield large amounts of hemp-seed oil and other by-products but is "quite significant symbolically," said Tom Murphy, national outreach coordinator for advocacy group Vote Hemp.
The sale of hemp products in the U.S. reached an estimated $500 million last year, according to the Hemp Industries Association. Yet all of the hemp used for the products was imported because federal law prohibits its cultivation in the U.S. under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970. The last known commercial crop was harvested in Wisconsin in 1957.
Colorado's passage of Amendment 64 paved the way for legal cultivation of hemp, but Loflin chose to plant his crop earlier this year before implementation of the state's hemp-growing regulations, which are scheduled to take effect next year.
Loflin used social media to line up about 45 volunteers to hand-harvest his crop on Saturday and Sunday. Use of a mechanical combine, he said, would have harmed the plants' stalks, which can be used in construction materials and for animal bedding.
Loflin said some of his hemp seed will be pressed for oil and subsequently purchased by Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps, a major user of hemp oil.
"We're very excited that Ryan has done this," said David Bronner, president of the company. "Ryan has kind of busted it open and taken this necessary step to make hemp a viable crop."

Good news. Maybe small farmers will soon have a chance at a crop Monsanto hasn't ruined yet. The farm bill never made it out of Congress before the government shut down. It passed the Senate but got stalled guess where - the House of Representatives.
Now they can "fine tune" it to eliminate certain subsides such as Michelle Bachmann ($250,000 farm subsidy), Chuck Grassley ($700,000 farm subsidy), Sam Brownback ($500,000 farm subsidy), and Stephen Fincher ($3,000,000 farm subsidy).
That is if anyone wants to be re-elected. A poll by the WSJ shows that 60% of Americans want the entire Congress fired.Let them scramble for good legislation that serves the people rather than lobbyist campaign contributions/bribes.

I thought Hemp and the Cannabis plant were the same thing
Botanically speaking they are the same plant. There are three species of cannabis, of which c. sativa is the least psychoactive. Just like apples and roses can be bred to display different colors and other characteristics, the same is true for hemp: it can be bred for fiber or for THC content (or both, for that matter). As an herbalist, I've played for years with the idea of the ten most useful plants of all time. Cannabis would certainly be in that list as it provides, fiber, food, medicine and relaxation.
Good article here (http://www.salon.com/2013/12/26/the_lie_that_wont_die_we_dont_know_enough_about_marijuana_partner/)...published yesterday.

Here in California, Marijuana is pretty much legal. There is a large push to provide the CBD levels as well as the THC levels at the various dispensaries. Some of the newer strains are very low in THC and bred specifically for the medicinal properties.
One of the most famous is the strain Charlettes Web. Here is a video about Charlette and Zaki, they have had their lives changed dramatically by the medical use of marijuana. And no they do not get high. The strain has a very low THC level and is given orally.

[QUOTE=Vitalux;648220]Here is an interesting experience I can share.
Many of you might be familiar with the disease called colitis and/or crohn's.
I have always suffered with this illness for aboout 40 years since I was was a teenager.
Hi Vitalux,
There appear to be many ways in which to cure ailments / conditions of the Gut / Colon !
SCD / GAPS, cleansing / detoxing (myriad of techniques), fasting - really it's a case of trial and error too and of course weaning yourself off from any meds !
Best Wishes,

I have, in my personal archives, more than one hundred documentary videos about Cannabis – both Industrial Hemp and Medical Marijuana – and about the history of the totally corrupt prohibition and the resurgence of both Industrial Hemp and Medical Marijuana, globally. The following documentary is one of the best I have seen because it covers all of these topics in detail.
Remember that Industrial Hemp is Cannabis that has very low THC content while Marijuana usually means Cannabis that has high THC content. At times the documentary blurs the differences because the words “hemp” and “marijuana” are used incorrectly several times.
There are over 2,000 documented varieties of Cannabis and less than 10% have high THC content.
Low THC Industrial Hemp contains everything except the psychoactive THC, therefore Industrial Hemp also has exceptionally high value for medicinal uses in addition to several thousand industrial uses. For example, CBD can virtually eliminate the pain and significantly reduce the swelling caused by Arthritis, within 3 days. And as the video explains, the most potent anti-cancer compound in hemp is not THC.
And Medical Marijuana can also be used for all of the industrial uses of hemp.
Industrial Hemp can be grown legally almost anywhere in Australia and in dozens of countries. Medical Marijuana can be grown legally in fewer countries - and ironically, in almost half of the states of USA, where the corrupt prohibition began.
This video is highly recommended.

Cannabis is the plant of the planet IMO. I think it was brought here from another world along with many other types of foods/spices etc. If it wasn't I'm willing to bet it has been brought to other worlds from here. It is truly an amazing plant. When people realize how amazing these plants are, a global conspiracy becomes easier to see and more credible.
I have, in my personal archives, more than one hundred documentary videos about Cannabis – both Industrial Hemp and Medical Marijuana...
The following documentary is one of the best I have seen...
Always good to have feedback from someone who is experienced. I'll definitely give the video a watch. thx

Agree with Omniverse about the plant being put here specifically to aid us. I am not sure it was from another planet or not, but I definitely think its presence here is extremely intentional as is the global conspiracy against it.

OffPlanet Radio - Randy Maugans with Rick Simpson & The Politics Of Cannabis
http://phoenixtears.ca
YT Synopsis:
We sat down for a conversation with Rick Simpson (over 90 minutes) and covered a WHOLE lot of turf. Rick is the man who “dropped the hammer” on the medical establishment by taking back his power and treating his own cancer using thetrahydrocannabinol (THC) oil. Since 2003 he has successfully treated over 3,000 people with a wide range of ailments, including glaucoma, brain cancer, lung cancer, arthritis, diabetes…the list goes on.
Having done extensive research and testing into the distillation of hemp oil to produce an efficient, provable compound that can be used by anyone with nearly any condition, Simpson went on to make it, and the formula, available to the world for FREE. He has not patented, or attempted to profit from the making, usage, or sale of Simpson Oil, but rather chose to gift it to humanity while waging his own battles with the Canadian Government, who harassed, assaulted, and prosecuted him for continuing to produce the oil. He is now based in Central Europe, where is recognized as a leader in emerging naturopathic health care, and a tireless defender of people caught in the the legal dilemma between compliance with bogus laws against cannabis, and their own healing needs.
The conversation goes into the history of Simpson Oil, Rick’s own legal battles, the history of marijuana prohibition via Harry Anslinger’s Fedral Bureau of Narcotics (interesting, marijuana is NOT a narcotic), the cultural war on pot via “Reefer Madness” propaganda; the rise of the petro-pharmaceutical industry and big money interests, who suppressed cannabis’ healing properties; hemp as a major natural product that can yield 10,000s of products (“…an economy of itself…”) and why the powers-that-be fear the widespread use of cannabis as a curative/palliative application.
The POLITICS OF CANNABIS is simple: Nature is the First Source of all healing; the plants and herbs are God-given; the Big Pharma-Medical establishment is poisoning, radiating, and cutting patients rather than allowing them the choice of a natural, holistic…even spiritual path to wellness. You can support Rick and his work by visiting his website and purchasing his books, “Nature’s Answer For Cancer” and “The Rick Simpson Story”. Also join us in the Media Bomb Campaign and distribute the “Comprehensive Report on the Cannabis Extract Movement” far and wide.

Hemp has a broad climate range and has been cultivated successfully from as far north as Iceland to warmer, more tropical regions.
As hemp makes a comeback in the U.S. after a decades-long ban on its cultivation, scientists are reporting that fibers from the plant can pack as much energy and power as graphene, long-touted as the model material for supercapacitors.
They’re presenting their research, which a Canadian start-up company is working on scaling up, at the 248th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest scientific society.
Although hemp (cannabis sativa) and marijuana (cannabis sativa var. indica) come from a similar species of plant, they are very different and confusion has been caused by deliberate misinformation with far reaching effects on socioeconomics as well as on environmental matters. Read more…

Outlawing hemp in the US has been another oppressive way of boosting corporate profits. The time has come to reevaluate the many benefits of hemp.

Agricultural Benefits of Hemp
* England, France and Spain have all legalized low THC varieties of hemp for an agricultural crop. England planted 1,500 acres of hemp as a first year crop. Reports from England state that farmers are receiving in excess of 3,000$ per acre for their hemp crop.
* Low THC hemp is not suitable as a psychoactive drug.
* A Canadian report from the late 1800′s demonstrated that hemp works very well in rotation with bean and corn crops.
* In 1991 Ontario farmers receiver 290$ and 240$ per acre for grain corn and soya bean respectively.
* Hemp was grown successfully in Canada for over 100 years. For a period in the late 1800′s Canada produced ‘hi: of all England’s hemp requirements. At kite time, England was the largest hemp consumer in the world.
* In the 1930′s, a South Western Ontario newspaper reported that Canadian grown hemp was among the best in the world and far superior to tropical hemp.
* In Canada hemp can be grown successfully from our southern borders to approximately 60O North Latitude, the parallel that divides the North West Territories from the provinces. This remarkable range is possible due to hemp’s short growing season, usually 90 to 110 days.
* The hemp plant will reach a height of up to 5m (16ft.) and sink a main tap root down 1 ft. This tap root will draw nutrients from deep in the soil and make them available to subsequent crops when the hemp leaves are shed on the soil. This extensive root system also helps to alleviate the problem of soil compaction.
* Hemp is very easy on the soil and returns up to 60% of the nutrients it takes from the soil, when dried in the field.
* A report from Kentucky states that hemp was grown on the same land for 14 consecutive years without soil depletion or reduction in yield.
* Hemp is very economical crop to grow since it requires virtually no pesticide applications.
* Hemp is also relatively drought-resistant and has been relied upon several times during drought-induced famine for its high protein seed.
* Hemp is very resistant to increased UV radiation and should not suffer decreased yields, unlike soya bean and corn.

Dyk that I had to click on one of the other upper articles to enter the page? Wow, somebody is trying very hard to keep this little hush hush silent. Too bad for their greedy little minds. Now if we could unite her and enter the stock of hemp for dividends to really do some good in the world. We could use them to protect whistleblowers, gain more interviews with other world wide witnesses to what we are all seeing and hearing in our world today. We could do sustainable spiritual retreats that offer telescopic tours or viewing at night. Lots could be done, if you jump on it before WS does. Show them how to really put our mouths where our money goes. Go tune it or be present at the meeting to gain the names and then, buy a few stock shares in the company through donation. Maybe a 5% should do a world of good. Just kicking it around because times "financial" times are still rough on the little guys around the world.
Do they have a live stream or video coming out? Gonna check and see who the backers are, and see if I can get a little jump on something. I've also got a page from a AWEA stock share meeting from Dec 13, and by 2015, EU is gonna have work done overthere w/wind. Sooo.....you heard it from me first. Click on share holder update pages and meetings or conventions at AWEA and you'll see what is going on, inside the State's plans and what states are jumping on the band wagon to handle the contracts to fill for the blades.

Dennis, Thank a million for finding this article to cover for my vanishing article. I think this excerpt is really interesting:
Hemp
The Mitlin Group, a united group of scientists, has discovered how to extract similar carbon from hemp fibres to make nano-sheets. This is achieved by heating hemp fibres for 24 hours at 176 degrees Celsius, after which the resulting material is briefly blasted with a more intense heat. This process causes the hemp fibres to fan out into nano-sheets of the desired carbon.
A brick of graphite.
A brick of graphite.
Fully assembled, their performance is better than the current commercial super-capacitors in terms of energy density, and the temperature range in which they can work. Hemp devices yielded an energy density of 12 Watt-hours per kilogram, which is two to three times higher than their commercial counterparts. They also continued to work within an impressive temperature range, from freezing to over 90 degrees Celsius.
“We’ve pretty much figured out the secret sauce of it”, says Dr. David Mitlin. “We’re past the proof-of-principle stage for the fully functional super-capacitor. Now we’re gearing up for small-scale manufacturing.”
I really to believe that the wonderful hemp plant is truly a gift to mankind. We are just beginning to tap into the benefits of it. There really was a reason to keep it away from the masses.
