Dunno what to make of this (http://www.smithsonianmag.com/ideas-innovations/Theres-a-1200-year-old-Phone-in-the-Smithsonian-Collections-231152081.html#ixzz2njrXl1DH). If it's true, it's amazing. Or maybe not.

that turned out to be a device they used back then, I forget what they said it was, a hearing aid or something like that... mystery solved, totally taken out of context, but it was fun for while... lol

I've heard it said , there is nothing new under the sun , what we have today has always been around , with the rise and fall of civilizations some things get lost ...Just like helicopters and tanks sketched on the pyramid walls , batteries found buried beneath the pyramids , the flashlight found in france in the 1700's , giant gears made of metal found dating back 12,000 years not to mention how did ancient man build so many pyramids all over earth and match them to star constellations perfectly ...

You are correct - a hearing aid -- they used to be external box type of devices. Here are some examples of what they used to be like: (although the one in the video doesn't appear to have an earpiece)http://www.hearingaidmuseum.com/gallery/Vacuum%20Tube/Silvertone/info/silvertonem35.htm

I am not too shocked to see the 1,200 year old telephone -- the tech is pretty simple - likely was known even far before that time. We all made those as kids with tin cans, right? ;)

That Charlie Chaplin time traveller is one of the silliest things I've ever seen. So a woman had her hand up to her head....? You can't even see any sort of device in there. Sorry but people really do clutch at straws...

Yes, of course.. I should not have used the word Baffled. Fun to watch, though.

Sorry to say that is another misconception taken out of context, it really is coincidental, because they actually know what those symbols mean, they were one set of symbols and someone else had their names (or symbols carved over them creating those images)

I like all that stuff but good solid debunks are good for us, so long as it isn't some schmuck working for the Man trying to hide the real truths from us... like those dudes who keep stealing what should be now like thousands and thousands of giant bones and taking them to the Smithsonian never to be seen or heard from again... THAT HAS TO STOP... that is a major breach of trust... Who is behind the Smithsonian? (Freemasons, etc)

GreenGuy - what an interesting find. My first thought was - what else has been hidden from the public? I have no doubt that this "telephone" was a wonderful invention in its day - and - again I am wondering what other inventions were changing lives back then??? Very thought provoking information and I am glad you thought enough to share your find.

Much Peace - Amanda

Well I don't know about the age of this artifact but as kids we used to make them. Two tin cans and a long length of baling twine (from baling hay). Worked well as I remember as long as the twine was stretched tight and not hooked up on anything. Its funny we never questioned it, and I have no Idea where we got the idea.

You do get pictures doctored to look anachronistic. Here is one such, purportedly depicting te art historian Aby Warburg downloading a large image file on his laptop in 1928-29.

On the other hand, there is a great deal of technology that was already known in historic times, most notably in China. Based on the work of Joseph Needham, Robert Temple's book The Genius of China is a long catalogue of such things as bamboo gas pipelines documented in the year 347 or second century cardan suspensions. So yes, a great deal of seemingly recent technology actually dates back a long way.

There are ancient technologies stashed around the world in various museums that really defy modern day explanation. It has been my experience that they don't necessarily hide this information but they certainly make no effort to expose it. If it does not fit into what our history books tell us it is relegated to the back room or the storage room.

While there has been some stuff written about these amazing ancient technologies there never has been (to my knowledge) a very detailed catalog produced. For someone who has the time and inclination this would probably make a great book to write.
