This is a great foundational exercise. It's important to learn how to "ground" yourself early.
I don't think of this as a kindergarten though because in my mind that implies to me that I learn it once.
I'm constantly returning to these types of meditation. I like to face the morning sun as it rises (sun, as same focus as the flame). Can do this with eyes open only if you've worked up to it. But closed eyes are the norm as I often miss the first hour of sunrise. The light hitting your face with closed eyes and it's warmth is intoxicating.

I just wanted to give a starting point for anyone that is new to the idea of meditation , ya know , sometimes the simple things that are important get lost in the shuffle of a complex world ... the excercise is a building block for psi ability , it can be used to influence your surroundings ...
