Winner of the prize is Liu Xiaobo, China.

Why do I have the feeling this is starting something? Just look at last years prize.....It's more political than ever.....

Could this start something? What do you think?

Nobel Peace Prize awarded to China dissident Liu Xiaobo

Jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo has been named the winner of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize.

The award, announced in Norway's capital Oslo, is certain to anger Beijing, which had earlier warned against the move.

Ahead of the announcement, Norwegian Nobel Committee president Thorbjoern Jagland told local television he knew he would have to defend the choice.

"You'll understand when you hear the name," he said.

Mr Jagland said on Thursday the choice had become clear early in the process.

Mr Liu, 54, was jailed for 11 years on Christmas Day last year for drafting Charter 08, which called for multiparty democracy and respect for human rights in China.

Last month, the Chinese foreign ministry warned the Nobel committee not to award him the prize, saying it would be against Nobel principles.

No candidates are announced ahead of the Peace Prize but others mentioned in the media included Afghan women's rights activist Sima Samar, Russian human rights activist Svetlana Gannushkina, former German chancellor Helmut Kohl and Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

The Nobel committee had to defend last year's controversial Peace Prize choice of US President Barack Obama.

Henry Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize. That's basically all you need to know.

Every time China "warns" the entire globe goes into a tizzy, giving in to them. Ultimately, this is even more dangerous than catering to the Corporate/M.I.C. let US foreign policy, IMO.

The combination of the two serves to keep this a dangerous place to raise grandchildren.

Hi Fred,

If I had a spare life, I think I would spend it "angering Beijing", and shoving their warnings up their nose.

Every time China "warns" the entire globe goes into a tizzy, giving in to them. Ultimately, this is even more dangerous than catering to the Corporate/M.I.C. let US foreign policy, IMO.

After the Boxer Rebellion and Xinhai Revolution (contemporary with the bankster-orchestrated Russian Revolution) ... and later, the hellish bedship of Marx, Mao, and the Cultural Revolutionaries (parallels with Bolshevism in Russia)... I really have to wonder how independent China is of the bankster-controlled global order. Now that China, too, is playing up the UFO angle, on queue, it seems that Carol Rosin knew what she was talking about when she made these comments:

Jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo has been named the winner of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize.

Making the announcement in Oslo, the head of the Norwegian Nobel committee said Mr Liu was "the foremost symbol" of the human rights struggle in China.

Several countries including the US, France and Germany, called for his immediate release.

China said the award could damage ties with Norway, and summoned the country's ambassador in Beijing in protest.

Norwegian Nobel Committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland admitted he knew the choice would be controversial.

He told local television before the announcement: "You'll understand when you hear the name."

Nobel Peace Prize awarded to China dissident Liu Xiaobo

In the weeks leading up to this announcement, Beijing was very strong in its statements. It said that Liu Xiaobo was not a suitable candidate. Beijing regards him as a criminal and said the award could damage relations between China and Norway.

Many Chinese people will see this as an attack by the West on what they stand for and certainly many nationalists will see this as an example of the West trying to demonise China.

The statement of the Nobel Peace Prize committee will not get a lot of traction with ordinary people. The authorities have very effectively given him no publicity whatsoever..............

.............US President Barack Obama said Mr Liu had "has sacrificed his freedom for his beliefs" and called for his speedy release.

German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said China should free him so he could attend the ceremony.

France's Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner also welcomed the award and also called on China to release Mr Liu.

more wedges driven between east and west, i am very pleased that liu xiaobo has had the peace prize being a member of amnesty and remembering the day the Massacre in Tiananmen Square (http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/june/4/newsid_2496000/2496277.stm) happened, which liu was active in (had news reports and picturs of this on my bedroom wall......made me so shocked and numb at the time) also the millions of chinese that have been and still are in Gulags (http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2003/jan/03011005.html) (worth looking up this issue), i am over joyed that he has been recognised and awarded for his valiant efforts against the communist regime, his bravery in the face od oppression and danger. one feels humbled by such a person.........this man is a true activist for change, if people followed suit then the powers that be would not stand a chance.
