One of my beloved poodles is very ill. Today she has been very lethargic and has eaten nothing. Last night, she ate very little. This afternoon, I gave her some warm sea salt water with the intention of inducing either a bowel movement or vomiting. Shortly after that, I took her for a walk. Within two minutes, she passed a couple of very small, rock-hard stools, followed by a significant amount of bloody water. (sorry for the detail.) I believe she also may have had very loose stools for the past 2 or 3 days. (I wasn't sure which dog it was, but now I am fairly certain it was she.)
I cannot afford to take her to a vet and I don't care for the allopathic approach to veterinary care anyway, so that is not really an option for us.
I would be exceedingly grateful if someone who is able to communicate with animals could help me out by connecting with her so that I can figure out what to do for her. I have tried to communicate with her directly, but I'm just not getting what I need to help her.
Her name is Jazz and she is 6 years old. She is a standard poodle. And I love her so very much...
Here is a photo that I took tonight:

And here is a short video of her when she was 9 weeks old.

My first thought would be some kind of blockage. I used to work at the apl and one of the dogs swallowed a small rubber ball. Her stools were blocked so she wasnt pooping or eating for days. Long story short it had to be surgically removed.
Oh no, carriellbee, I am so sorry Jazz is feeling under the weather. Poor baby.
Does she have a fever? If not, that could rule out infection. Is there any chance she could have ingested something she shouldn't have? Could be she just had some constipation relieved by the salt water , ending with the hard poops. I am not certain how long a dog can go without eating, but I would not let it go too long. YOu might call around to some vets, many will let you set up a payment plan. It might be worth the investment of an x ray to rule out blockage which could be fatal.
I am sending you and your beautiful Jazz love and healing intentions. I know how scary it is when our beloved animals don't feel good. Can't you be more specific about how much blood was in her stool? Like ounces, or cups, or liters? The blood worries me the most, but to be honest, I have never had a dog, so I will leave it to the dog people to chime in with some better advice here. Much Hugs, Sidney

My dog went through something similar, but because I'm not in veterinary medicine, I'm urging you not to take my advice.
Try a probiotic. Available in most health food stores, it sounds like it "could" be an upset with her guts. However, anytime blood comes out the bum in people, they say get thee to a doctor, so even though you've said otherwise for good reasons:
Get thee to a vet clinic.

Your dog has parvo, and you should give it chicken broth. Dry oodles of noodles packed about a fingertip full with warm water from a baster to dry up the muscus thats caused by the infections spreading. This worked for my dogs when they would venture out and come back with it. Because of the bloody loose stools, you must work around the clock every 3 to four hours giving water to prevent fever in the body and to hydrate which is the ultimate of importance to flush the germs out. The stools are trying to do it, but there's no help, so get busy and pm me if it's not too late. It will take about a good week before it's strong enough and feels better because of the time it's taken to get started on it. Please, I've saved so many pets with this knowledge.
Use the chicken flavor packet in the oodles of noodles pack, should get about 4-5 doses in 2 days.
Sending you calm and patience, it's very sad to watch, especially the eyes if they glaze over, but IT WORKS. Couldn't afford the 800.00 shots that don't work. Lost dogs to the shot, but not the broth. Very important to tell you that, my guide said so you have faith. use a light sheet to catch the drool and wash everything with hot water if you have to boil it. The cold germs are wherever the dog has been. Isolate because other pets will run from it, they can smell the sickness. Very contagious also.
PS, Parvo is only the rhinovirus in a pet. rhinovirus is the common cold. Lot of flu going around, and someone may have sneezed or coughed around your pet.
**The 1st dose is the most important and no more than 3 oz each dose at 3-4hours for 2-3 days and keep an ice cube in the water dish to tempt drinking. There may be a little more vomiting to remove the mucus on the stomach that makes them feel sick. The baster is the best way to get it in them if the teeth are clenching or " jaws/locking up."

Jazz died just after 5:30 this morning.
Thank you everyone for your kind words and helpful advice.
The stools themselves did not appear to be bloody at all. The water that we saw yesterday afternoon was almost entirely blood and I would say measured a little less than a pint.
Lifebringer, do you really think she had parvo? The other dogs and the cat have been around her, not avoiding her or anything like that, at least not that I've noticed. She was her usual playful self until yesterday morning.
I have to go have a good cry now.

Carriellbee, I am so so sorry. Jazz was much sicker than you realized, but she's free and out of pain now. Be still, rejoice the beautiful life she had with you, and she will be wrapped around your heart eternally. Sending love and sympathy to you.

Hello there. I have a maltese who was very sick last week, vomiting with high fever. It look constipated too. If you dog has fever and is dehydrated you can give her this oral solution you can get on supermarkets or pharmacies for babies or you can make your own with water and salt or a little bit of Epsom salt. Epsom salt is a laxative and a muscle relaxer since it's basically magnesium sulfate, check the dosage and use it accordingly for the pet weight. For fever you can give her any baby remedy always checking the pet weight. These days I'm giving my dog coconut oil to get things moving inside his gut and it's working. I warm the coconut oil (at this time of year is solidified) and give it on some little bread pieces or just with a dropper. Dogs love it and it's very good for them.
Every time myself or somebody in my family is sick I always go to this website (the most visited for natural remedies) and they have a section for pets, very useful.
