I just scoped this over at Max Keiser's website.
Brilliant.

Simply, they're gold foil notes in 1/20 gram denominations.

My head is sideways in contemplation of the potential.

Precious metals are by troy ounce, 31.1g/oz; 32.15oz/kg.
The links lead to an online store advertising 1/10g notes for $10, though the image is still the 1/20g note. The gold is adhered to sheet plastic and then laminated.
I am more impressed by the potential of such things than this particular manifestation. The notes I find might make something akin to gold 'savings bonds', but I don't see widespread adoption of them (not at the grocery store certainly). Collectors might be interested in them, and I bet a phat stack of them looks pretty neat, but ultimately it's small enough that anyone can get some though they won't fully appreciate for a while.
Edit: Adjusting for current market value, a 1/10g note contains about $4 worth of gold ($1280 per Oz/31.1 g per Oz = $41.15 per g/10 = $4.11 per 1/10g) so the price would have to slightly more than double to 'break even',... but if one uses supply and demand to work out the actual value of gold one can see that in absence of market manipulation they are already worth more than their buying price.
Just sayin'.
