Scientists have developed a device that makes liquid droplets "dance," hovering in midair, without exploding.

Music blasts can't quite lift you off your feet just yet, but making droplets levitate with sound may be the first step in that direction. A team of researchers demonstrated experimentally how to lift and spin liquid droplets, controlling them with high-frequency sound waves.

The scientists developed a device that makes liquid droplets "dance," hovering in midair, without exploding. The achievement could lead to potential biological and pharmaceutical applications, such as studying chemical reactions in extreme environments without disturbing them via contact, moving hazardous materials, and analyzing and testing new materials without the risk of contamination. It could also be used in microgravity experiments on Earth.

The team describes the device, functioning at a frequency of 32.5 kilohertz, in their paper, recently published in the journal Physical Review Letters. The acoustic waves are in the ultrasound range — too high-pitched for the human ear to hear, but very loud, blasting at about 160 decibels, where 120 dB is the limit for human hearing, said study co-author Daniele Foresti, a physicist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland.

Skywizard, another amazing post!

A few years ago, I was reading (trying to google info on) "nuclear magnetic resonance lab" because of some concepts I was trying to visualize.
Inevitably I stumbled across an article that mentioned some of Tesla's devices.

A man claimed to have been given the chance to test a few of the original inventions (or worked from a patent or drawing) and said there was one that in particular struck him as odd.

It was a device that generated very HF waves. You describe High-Frequency sound waves above. This device dealt with HF radiation, I assume (the author didn't differentiate).

But he said, when he turned it on, it caused small items (metal and others i think) on his desk to "dance around" and "levitate" and that "the laws of physics were suspended".

p.s. hence my interest in the magical disintegrating WTC towers.

and some say they can't manipulate the weather ... they can make rain droplets dance without them exploding ... sure they can steer a storm right where they want it to go ...

Stan Deyo made droplets dance a while ago...

Certainly, the entire video is good, but to see the effect mentioned in the OP, start at about 26/27 minutes in...

There's MUCH MORE to this phenomena than just watching water float in midair...

I am sure they will recreate the levitation that built the pyramids very soon.
