Children (http://www.theguardian.com/society/children) were forced to eat their own vomit and bathe in disinfectant at residential care homes run by nuns, the UK's largest public inquiry into institutional child abuse was told on Monday.

During evidence on the behaviour of nuns from the Sisters of Nazareth order at two Catholic church-run children's homes in Derry (http://www.theguardian.com/uk/derry), the inquiry heard that children were beaten for bedwetting and had soiled sheets placed on their heads to humiliate them.

Nazareth House children's home and St Joseph's Home, Termonbacca, were both run by the Sisters of Nazareth in Derry. Forty-nine ex-residents of the two homes gave evidence about their treatment in written and oral testimony to the historic institutional abuse inquiry sitting at Banbridge courthouse.

A total of 16 church- and state-run orphanages, care homes and other institutions in Northern Ireland (http://www.theguardian.com/uk/northernireland) are under scrutiny in a public inquiry expected to last until June 2015.

Young people at Sisters of Nazareth properties in Derry were known by numbers rather than their names, and many were allegedly subjected to humiliation, threats and physical abuse, said Christine Smith QC, senior counsel for the inquiry.

Outlining the nature of the allegations, Smith told the inquiry that as well as making children eat vomit when they were ill, nuns used sticks, straps and kettle flexes to beat their young charges. The nuns removed Christmas presents from some children as punishments, Smith said.

She said those who had given testimony also accused the nuns of locking them in cupboards and threatening to transfer them to an adult mental hospital at Muckamore Abbey. in Co Antrim, if they did not conform.

Rather than sending the children to school, the Sisters of Nazareth sent them out to work on farms or in the home's laundry, Smith said. She said allegations also included sexual abuse by older children, visiting priests, employees and in one instance a nun.

Boys at a Salvation Army children’s home in Australia were "rented out" to paedophiles who entered their dormitories at night, a royal commission into child sexual abuse has heard.

One boy was sent by a superintendent, Captain Lawrence Wilson, to the home of a husband and wife, who sexually abused him. The couple were in Salvation Army uniforms and the woman “had short blond hair and looked to be in her 30s,” the alleged victim told the commission. He said he returned to the home and revealed what had happened to Captain Wilson, who said the couple were "good people" and caned the boy 18 times.

"The sexual attacks on myself are the hardest things to deal with, one day you are a boy the next you are a shell walking around," he said.

Another man told the commission that the boys, who lived at a Salvation Army home in Sydney, would sometimes be sexually abused by men who broke into their rooms at night.

“He [Captain Wilson] physically raped me in his office within a few months of being there and it happened several more times," the man alleged in a statement.

"You would be sent out to stay with other people and they would do it to you or there were the prowlers, men who allegedly broke into the place at night and tampered with the boys. Even now I still can't sleep… Wilson got me out of bed at night times. Sometimes it was strangers who came up the fire escape ... old men came in at night. There was no supervision."

The horrific accounts of abuse were given at a broad commission which is investigating sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, orphanages, schools, community groups and other institutions.

Some of the worst abuses emerged this week during hearings into four Salvation Army homes between 1966 and 1977, where majors allegedly sodomised boys aged six to 17 with a garden hose and savagely beat them until they bled.

Captain Wilson, described by counsel assisting the commission as “the most serious offender” in Sydney, was eventually charged with 19 offences involving buggery and assault but was tried and acquitted in 1997. He died in 2008.

A police officer involved in the investigation, Detective Inspector Rick John Cunningham, told the commission: "Based on my own experience ... it is often difficult for victims to pinpoint dates.”

Three of the five officers being examined are still alive. All deny the allegations.

The big reason behind this is the tormenting of the human soul in general and in every particular life.

I think it was Michael Tsarion who did a good in depth walk through (for me personally in some of his videos) of the practice of torturing adults and children. He brought out the wars, the holocaust and after that the underground practices of CIA, MK Ultra, the Vatican, and the rest known and unknown.
Although today was not the day for me to come across these articles, I am also not going to close my eyes and look away. Somehow I find it a bit difficult to read about women involved in such deeds.

The idea of exposing a small part to hide the bigger undisclosed one comes to mind quickly.

A woman who murders an abusive husband is exonerated. Apparently this principle doesn't apply to children victimized by pedophiles.

The truth is that I had no idea that what I was experiencing wasn't the norm. Wasn't every child going through this? My childhood ended at the age of nine when I was sent to a home.

Overnight I became a plaything for those who were employed to care for me, those in power. They even managed to secure a "place of safety order" from a court so I couldn't be moved and they could carry on abusing me.

During the 1970s, corporal punishment was common in children's homes. For some of the staff, it was simply the way they got their kicks. First they caned little boys until they screamed, and then they buggered us until we were senseless; not until then did they stop. Nine other children from that home can confirm this statement; two are married with children of their own, two are gay, five are in jail.

Two of the five in jail are serving life sentences for murder.

After a time, the abuse becomes a form of love and affection, because if you didn't want to be caned, or belted with a strap, you give in and quickly accept the alternative, sexual abuse. By the age of twelve, I knew more about perversion and violence than any one of you reading this have ever read about, or even seen in films, let alone experienced.

By the age of twelve, I had been abused by the staff at my home, local social workers, care staff and a probation officer. All of these professions attract pedophiles, and although they are in the minority (20%), they are well aware of each other, and they network together, and most frightening of all, they protect each other.

I know a child who was articulate enough by the age of fourteen to tell the authorities what he was being put through, so they just moved him around the country from home to home before anyone could begin an investigation, while other pedophiles carried on abusing him.

ENTRAPMENT
At the age of thirteen I ran away and made my way to A. It was there that I first met a man called X, who offered me somewhere to sleep. That night he got me drunk, not too difficult when you're only thirteen. He raped me, and after that began renting me out to like-minded men. Whenever you read in the tabloid press about rent boys for sale, don't assume that they do it by choice, or even that they're paid. They are often locked up, and controlled like any other prostitute, and have little or no say in what happens to their life.

X controlled me for about six months, bringing to the flat judges, schoolmasters, police officers, politicians and other upstanding citizens who are the back-bone of our country (I can tell you of birthmarks, wounds and peculiarities for almost every one of these men).

One night in the West End when I was still thirteen, I was arrested by the police while X was trying to sell me to a customer. I was collected from the nick by a social worker, who took me to a children's home in B. The home was run by a magistrate, Y. For the next fourteen days, [he] buggered me night and day before issuing a court order that I should be returned to [my original children's home], where it was back to caning and systematic abuse.

After a couple of months, I was transferred to a hospital for emotionally disturbed children. Once again, the staff abused me and this time they had a more effective weapon than caning. They threatened to apply EST, electric shock treatment should I try to resist. I ran away again, returning to A, and have lived there ever since. I was only fourteen at the time, and X soon caught up with me. This time he installed me in the flat of a friend where seven or eight men would bugger me on a daily basis. One or two liked to whip me with a belt, while others punched me, this could be before, during or after having sex. When they eventually stopped, they occasionally left a small present (money or gift) on my pillow. This wasn't much use, because I never got out of the flat, unless I was accompanied by X.

By the age of fifteen, I was sniffing glue, regularly getting drunk, and having sex with countless men. But it didn't hurt any more. I felt nothing, it was all just part of my daily life.

This life, if that's what you can call it, continued for another four years, during which time I was photographed for porn magazines, and appeared in porn films.

TOO OLD AT 18
By the age of eighteen, I no longer served any purpose for these men, so I was thrown out onto the street and left to fend for myself. That was when I committed my first crime. Burglary of a department store, Lillywhites. I was arrested and sent to Borstal for six months. When I was released, I continued with a life of crime, I wasn't exactly trained for anything else.

By now I was six foot one and weighed 190 pounds, so didn't find it difficult to get a job in security, which is so often on the fringes of crime.

In 1980, at the age of eighteen, I met my future wife, who had no idea what my real job was, or that for twelve years I had been sexually abused. During the next five years, we had two sons, and twelve years later in 1997, we decided to get married.

I was already earning a good living as a criminal, and everything went well until I was arrested in 1997 for DSS fraud. I had been making false claims in several names for several years, to the tune of GBP 2.8 million, for which I received a three year sentence, which caused my marriage to be put off.

During my time in jail, I began by letter and telephone, to let my wife know that I had for sometime been involved in a life of crime. But it wasn't until I was released that I revealed to her any details of the sexual abuse I had been put through. Her reaction was immediate and hostile. She was disgusted, and reviled, and said she couldn't understand why I hadn't reported these men to the authorities. What authorities were there for me to report to? 'I was only nine years old when it all began. After all it was the authorities who were buggering me,' I told her, 'and by the age of eighteen, when I was no longer of any use to them, they threw me out onto the streets'

She couldn't come to terms with it. So I was rejected once again, and this time it was by someone I cared for, which made it far worse. She described me as a filthy person, who allowed dirty old men to rape me, because I wanted love and affection. There was no way I could begin to make her understand.

By being open and honest, I had lost the one person I truly loved. My life had been ruined by these evil men, and now they had even robbed me of my wife and two children.

REVENGE
All I now wanted was to kill the five monsters who were responsible, and then die in the hands of the police.

There were five pedophiles who had taken away my life, so I planned to take away theirs. I quickly discovered that two of them had already died, so there were only three left for me to deal with. Their names were X, Y and Z.

I carefully planned how I would kill them, and then later die in the hands of the police.

I drove down to [N] and kidnapped X and brought him back to [M], leaving him at my flat with three friends, who agreed to guard him while I returned to the coast to pick up Y. I then planned to go onto [L] and collect Z and bring them both back to [M].

I arrived back in [M] at one-thirty in the afternoon, when Y's next door neighbor told me that I had just missed him. I phoned-to warn them that I would be late, because I couldn't risk grabbing him in broad daylight. It was then that they told me the news. They had already killed X.

I was enraged. I've always been a cold person emotionally, but I cried on the journey back to London, because I had wanted to kill X myself. I had needed to cleanse myself of these three evil men, and all I had now was a dead body on my hands and three terrified associates.

I drove back to [K], breaking the speed limit most of the way. On arrival, I cleaned all the finger-prints from my flat and told the others that I would deal with Y and Z in my own way. That was when the police burst in; twenty-four armed officers pinned the three of us to the ground, handcuffed and arrested me.

I discovered later that X had already phoned the police and told them he feared for his life. I gave my solicitor all the details, and he said that because I was in Hastings at the time of X's death, they wouldn't charge me with murder, but they could charge me with conspiracy to murder. They charged me with murder, and I was sentenced to a minimum of twenty-two years.

Yes, I am doing a twenty-two year sentence for a crime I didn't commit. I only wish I had, and I also wish I had killed Y and Z at the same time.

Hugh Henry, 82, who taught at the controversial Caldicott Prep School in Farnham Royal, Buckinghamshire, was hit by a train and killed near Amersham station last night.

He was due to appear at Aylesbury Crown Court tomorrow afternoon to be sentenced after admitting gross indecency with a boy at the £20,000-a-year school dating back to the 1960s.

Henry tried to commit suicide by taking an overdose after being caught in a boy's bed in the 1960s.

Also due at court for sentencing tomorrow is Roland Peter Wright, 83, former headmaster at the school, who was found guilty of 12 counts of sexual assaulting children at a trial last year.

Wright, from Farnham Royal, Buckinghamshire, assaulted five pupils aged eight to 13 at the private school between 1959 and 1970.

During the trial the court heard how one former pupil, who was named because he had since died, had made abuse allegations against Henry.

Mark Payge said he made a statement to police after reading about Wright's arrest in a newspaper.

The statement read: 'While at this school I was sexually abused by a teacher who I definitely know taught games. He also taught another subject which I think was maths.

'He was Hugh Henry.'

Mr Payge said: 'The sexual abuse started in 1962 and lasted for about two years. Once Henry had initiated his paedophilic relationship with me he invited me to visit him every morning.'

If Bill Clinton is in fact a pedophile, will the American people demand that he be put away for a very long time so that he can’t hurt any more children? Or will having friends in high places exempt him from the rule of law?

This is VERY hard one to watch. Synopsis follows:

For generations of boys, sexual abuse was part of the everyday cruelty of boarding school. In this painfully honest report, writer Alex Renton confronts the demons of his past at Ashdown House, where some of Britain's most powerful men were also educated – and reveals the scale of the outrage about to engulf the private education system

If Ashdown House (http://www.ashdownhouse.co.uk/)'s pretty Georgian facade reminds you of Washington's Capitol and the White House that's because the architect, Benjamin Latrobe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Henry_Latrobe), had a hand in those, too. It is an excellent look for the entrance to a temple of education: it speaks of classical wisdom and the rule of reason. We boys weren't allowed to go in that way, of course.

Today, 40 years since I last saw the school, we step in through Latrobe's columned porch as though entitled. Nothing can touch us: we're parents. Ruth, my wife, grips my hand. A friend who works in post-traumatic stress disorder warned us, quite gravely, of the risks when people visit scenes of past troubles; of hyper-arousal – sweats, nausea, high heart-rate. Or the opposite, hypo-arousal: a state of lethargy, a feeling of unreality. But I'm fine. Pulse steady. People hurt you, not places.

There were no ghosts, no shocks as we toured the corridors and classrooms. I have not been looking forward to the smell. I could summon the brew: disinfectant, boy sweat, meat stew, chalk dust. An incense of misery. But it is gone. There is no chalk these days.

It is the details from other senses that clamour. The give of a floorboard in a corridor, the sunlight through a window, the shape of a wooden refectory bench, an echo of children (http://www.theguardian.com/society/children)'s voices. We enter a cosy girls' dormitory where the low black beams were, suddenly, shockingly familiar. And the brick fireplace. This used to be headmaster "Billy" Williamson's study. I'd scrutinised those bricks, the way they sat upon each other, many times over those five years. Waiting for his flap-jowled face to stop shouting and get to business: detail the punishment or the beating.

Just down the corridor, two worn wooden steps led to the tiny dormitory where I slept in my first term at the school. I and the other eight-year-olds would turn our faces into our mattresses, pull pillows over our heads. If you wept out loud, the 10-year-old dormitory captain and his deputy threatened to whip you with a belt. That was their prerogative, they told us on the first night, a few hours after our mothers had extracted promises from them to look after their little ones.

The last seems such a cliché of boarding school life – surely the tearful mummy pleading with the bullies is in Tom Brown's School Days? Or a Michael Palin sketch? – I wonder if I've made it up. The memories are blurred. I'm shocked how few of them there are. And telling and retelling the few stories that stand out in bright light carries risks – they gather accretions. Now when I meet men who were at the school I tend to check detail obsessively – He was called what? That happened when? – as if without reaffirmation what was real might slip into the darkness. Old Ashdownians sometimes tell me things that make my jaw drop.

But I do know that after the half-term break that first autumn we came back to a terrifying dressing-down, delivered under those low beams in the headmaster's study. One of us new boys – I still don't know who – had complained about the regime in Dormitory V to his parents. This was the cardinal sin. What happened in school stayed in school. Billy punished us all. We didn't tell tales again.

Some of the key locations have shrunk absurdly small: the brick chapel where Billy gripped the Bible and harangued us with the backing of his three trustiest prefects: Jesus, the Holy Ghost and God. Just as tiny now is the assembly room where, daily, 120 boys aged seven to 13 were ranked on wooden benches. Here the diatribes, the mass punishments and public humiliations happened. This was where he would detail who had cried under the cane the previous night: "Jones and Smith took it like gentlemen. But Renton blubbed like a baby."

That was then. Now the site is the "play-room", with a cushioned chill-out area adjoining. The larky 12-year-olds playing pool round a table seem to take up half the space. In the corridor I find a familiar picture, a print of the Pietro Annigoni portrait of the Queen, done after her coronation. She is young, beautiful and brave. I remember I used to watch her during assembly. I would wonder what she would do if she knew how unjustly we, her young subjects, were being treated. I'd will her to descend, glorious like the first Queen Elizabeth, and order Billy and his staff to the Tower. Or, like Boudica, ride down on the teachers and the prefects, slashing them to bits with the spinning swords on her chariot wheels.

The school has prospered since, as has the whole industry: now there are 22 full-time teaching staff. In my time there were only 10 or 12, some of them just graduated, and I wonder how many of them had any qualification at all. There's a new teaching block, a purpose-built canteen, a swimming pool and a kindergarten.

Lost in this warren is the classroom where, one afternoon when I was nine or 10, a hated and violent young teacher I will call Mr X slipped his hand into my corduroy shorts and tugged at my penis. This was a known hazard – in return Mr X gave you a Rowntree's fruit gum. Mine was a green one, nobody's favourite. Is this a memory I can trust? No doubt. I can feel my face against the rough tweed of his jacket, scratchy.

As the visit goes on, corridor after corridor, a sadness grows in my chest. Afterwards, utter exhaustion. I'm very glad, though, to see these rooms now full of light and character.

Especially that. Where our walls were bare and the only softness the identical candlewick bedspreads, now there are teddy bears and family (http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/family) photos; posters of ponies and Chelsea footballers. Peering into classrooms, the children are lively – unnaturally polite, compared with the ones at my daughter's state primary – but no one looks unhappy. As if they would. I realised I'd sort of expected that. Little rooms full of children with faces like The Scream.

After the tour, there are coffee and biscuits – we've come posing as prospective parents – with the headmaster and his wife, a couple in their 40s. They seem kind and practical. We chat about how boarding schools have changed and who from my days stays in touch. Who sends their own children to Ashdown. This stiff conversation is interrupted by a dazed little child who has brought a letter to be sent to his parents.

The headmaster calls him "my dear boy": when the child stammers what he wants and leaves, the headmaster explains a little, adding that winter is a bad time of year in a new school. We make sympathetic faces. I say that if my daughter comes to the school, she would like not to board immediately. The headmaster nods. That's fine. Weekly boarding is good, though an initial period of no contact with parents is for the best. One of the boarders, he tells us, is just six years old. That's been fine, too. His wife nods. At Ashdown now there is, the brochure reassures you, a "warm, kind and trusting home-from-home environment". No hugs, though.

The little boy's letter to Mummy, the scrawled envelope barely legible, lies between us on the coffee table among the porcelain like something raw. I remember how the teachers would inspect our letters home, and how we were punished if found to have complained to our parents. In a school of endless rules, offences against omerta were perhaps the most seriously policed of all. Of the platitudes from the current headmaster, only one impresses me: the school likes to encourage "independent thought". That is a change. This is a very different place altogether.

The last time I set foot in the school was the day I left, aged 13. In the 40 years since, Ashdown has loomed large – it was, as they say, "the making of me", for better and for worse. But I had not thought of revisiting. Except once, aged 15. Then a group of boys at Eton and I had discussed whether we might charter a mini-bus and visit the grave of the newly deceased Billy Williamson, to dance on it. It never happened. But the thought was good.

With the headmaster's death, Ashdown House and its demons began to fade. A young teacher, one of the decent ones, became headmaster, introduced girls and abolished the cane. The stories of baroque cruelty and insane adult behaviour became jokes, used to bond with people who'd been through the system at other schools. There was a time when the stories were fun to use to horrify girls, and another when they could serve to excuse your own emotional screw-ups. They were war stories: they made us feel special.

Sympathy in the wider world was limited. It still is. We were toffs whose parents had paid for the luxury of having their children abused – we were hardly the survivors of the care homes of north Wales or Catholic church vestries. We were not noisy: we kept calm and carried on, as trained. Some of us would later untangle the memories in therapy.

There has clearly been some demand for that. By the 1990s this odd corner of the British ruling class's mechanisms had become a subject of academic study and the grounds of psychiatric careers. Now Boarding School Syndrome (http://www.joyschaverien.com/index.php?ID=64) has a symptomology, "survivors' groups" and it's a thriving area for counsellors and psychotherapists. Private, of course. Money buys you entry: a friend who works in psychological trauma in the NHS says she's never come across this particular field.

The story of the British boarding school and its experiences have been widely written, as one might expect. Reading the raw accounts in the recent press and on abuse survivors' web fora I find myself flinching a little at how nicely turned some of the accounts are: like the lesser poets of the First World War, the emotional effects are just a touch self-conscious, the result, probably, of too much Wordsworth and Keats in the Fourth Form. Strange, to educate people to go out and be cannon fodder, but also to describe the experience like a Romantic.

Most of the professional memoirists seem to have ended up accommodating their boarding school experience: "Hell, but it made me the man/woman I am." Some who loathed their school days end up endorsing the system. Among these are Winston Churchill and Richard Dawkins. In his new autobiography, the scientist reckons the "mild paedophilia" he encountered was of its time and thus acceptable. 'I am very conscious that you can't condemn people of an earlier era by the standards of ours," he has said.

Far from condemning, others acknowledge they owe their careers to the emotional catastrophe of their education. Generations of male, middle-class British comedians' currency is the dry, dark humour that comes straight from the coping mechanisms of upper-class suffering. The other day, Eddie Izzard spoke of how he was sent to board at seven, shortly after his mother' death. He "cried relentlessly for a year… My housemaster would help me along with beatings when he could fit them in."

That brand of wry fatalism is characteristic. My wife Ruth did not go to boarding school. She says she cannot stand it when people who did talk through their experiences in "endless infantile grim jokes". But modern British culture has swallowed the boarding school story and digested it, caring not very much. It was an anachronism, a hangover of the imperial age, and in the 1990s, it looked as though the boarding schools were dying out. Numbers of boarders were collapsing.

Then new money and changing fashion brought about a curious revival. Another generation of the rich started sending their children away again. Once again, the little ones demanded it, they said, because of the books they had been reading. Only this time, the propaganda wasn't Enid Blyton's Malory Towers or Anthony Buckeridge (http://www.theguardian.com/news/2004/jun/29/guardianobituaries.booksobituaries)'s Jennings but JK Rowling (who did not go to boarding school and doesn't send her own children to one). Perhaps Harry Potter revived the English boarding school: numbers of boarding children have stayed stable since 2000 and through the recession. There's about 70,000 of them. As far as I can work out, around 4,000 of those are 10 or younger.

Now, of course, the country has had four years of its own experience of the effects of boarding school. The majority of the 2010 coalition cabinet were privately educated, most of them as boarders. Boris Johnson went to my schools – Ashdown and then Eton, and Andrew Mitchell, the former chief whip, went to Ashdown before going to Rugby. Of course, there's never been a government, even a Labour one, in which privately educated people were not among the major players. But, as critics like to point out, this clutch of male ruling politicians embodies the grand Victorian public school virtues – or failings – more than most: suppression of emotion, devotion to the team, distrust of women and minimal empathy for the weak and ordinary.

And so it is interesting that so many senior politicians in government went to boarding schools, places that, by definition, practise on young children the techniques of "attachment fracture" – a psychiatrist's phrase – that are key to removing early emotional ties and building esprit de corps. Of those politicians quite a few – including the chancellor, the prime minister and deputy prime minister, the Mayor of London and the Attorney General – were at private schools where teachers from their era have been accused or convicted of sexual abuse. The coalition is quite an advert for the old way.

For two decades there has been talk of an enormous abuse scandal brewing behind the facade of the 20th-century British private education system. Last December the story sprang to life. A long-running case against Peter Wright (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-26073155), the 83-year-old former headmaster of a school in Buckinghamshire called Caldicott (http://www.caldicott.com/Home.aspx), came to an end. Wright was found guilty of 12 counts of sexual abuse: one of the piquant details was that Nick Clegg had been joint head-boy at the school; his colleague, the other head boy, was one of the principal witnesses against Wright.

He had first been charged 10 years' earlier. A judge threw out the case because the offences were "historical". When the trial that finally went ahead in 2013, some of the 1960s allegations were not admitted. (Wright has now been jailed for eight years, having been found guilty of 10 indecent assaults and two counts of gross indecency, between 1959 and 1970). At least 30 pupils were involved, according to one newspaper. Five other teachers were implicated, one of whom threw himself under a tube train before the trial. One Caldicott teacher, sacked in 1972, went on to teach and abuse at the Harrodian School (http://www.harrodian.com/): the law did not catch up with him until 2003. Another abused children at Caldicott and a school in Shropshire in the 1970s and 1980s and was finally jailed this February. There is, not for the first time, talk of a "ring" of paedophile teachers operating in the 1970s in prep schools and public schools.

With the Wright case done, the principle that ancient allegations could be successfully prosecuted was established. It was certain more would follow. In mid-January the Times's hard-working reporter of child abuse scandals, Andrew Norfolk (http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/public/profile/Andrew-Norfolk), wrote of a "surge in criminal prosecutions" and named 130 private schools who have been or are now subject to similar allegations. That was 5% of all in the UK. It included 50 in the independent schools' premier league, the Headmaster's Conference. Twenty of them were feeders to Eton. In the same story, Norfolk pointed out that teachers from 62 different private schools had been convicted of sex crimes against children in the past 20 years – 18 convictions since 2012. Norfolk called it "stealing their childhoods".

This all passed me by, until, last December, a story appeared in the Times naming Ashdown House under the headline "Prep school faces claims of physical and sexual abuse." The Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2529565/Boris-school-centre-probe-sexual-abuse-Two-teachers-accused-subjecting-children-aged-7-13-horrific-attacks-1970s.html)was gripped, because Ashdown in the 70s had not just been the school of Boris Johnson but also the actor Damian Lewis and the Queen's nephew David Linley. Linley was my contemporary – in the Mail he was quoted reminiscing without any affection about the "Dickensian" school. He remembered Billy Williamson caning his whole class for one child's "fairly petty" offence.

The old man did like a big gesture. I remember him – huge, red-faced, ranting – threatening to cane the entire school unless a boy owned up to some particularly infuriating crime. I think it was a broken window. An older Ashdownian told me Billy had actually once attempted that feat – giving 120 boys "six of the best" in one afternoon. Despite being a keen golfer with a good swing, which he practised on the Royal Ashdown course most weekends, Williamson ran out of steam. He gave up having got through hardly half of them.

But the new allegations were about more than caning, which was a legal practice in independent schools in England and Wales until 1999. (About the same time, the independent schools for the first time became subject to full state inspection.) The Mail story talked of "horrific attacks" by two teachers in the early and mid-70s. The paper had been leaked details of a campaign for compensation started by former pupils, in part because they were infuriated that a complaint about abuse made in 2003 had been brushed aside. This group had been taken on as no-win-no-fee clients by the solicitors representing some victims of Jimmy Savile.

Through friends who had also been at Ashdown, I got more detail. The complaints, from a group a few years younger than me, were indeed horrific: sexual acts much more intrusive than Mr X's pathetic bribe and fumblings. There was talk of blackmail and predatory older pupils encouraged by abusive teachers. That chimed with my adult perception of the bizarre sexualisation of life at Ashdown, especially the system of reward and discipline. At least two children I knew who had been given authority over younger kids used it to force sexual contact – Williamson seemed to have turned a blind eye. There was talk of connections with house masters at Eton, to which Ashdown fed pupils. There had been at least one suicide. There were more teachers in the complaint.

The Mail's story quoted from an email that the former Ashdown pupils were passing around: "The abuse that occurred continues to have a dramatic effect on a number of lives, with regards to ongoing relationships, career and treatment for dealing with the psychological damage it has caused. Therefore we are seeking compensation with regards to a civil case against the school."

I was very shocked when I read this – more than I could easily understand. Ashdown had had a dramatic effect on my life, too, but I had thought it was done. I didn't feel any need for revenge or compensation for what had happened 40 years ago. I didn't think I needed catharsis, either – I had long ago let light onto what I experienced at Ashdown. I was open about it with lovers, friends and family. I was, as much as I could hope to be, at peace.

But I realised I owed support to others who might need revenge, relief from the history – or money. There was another pressing need. The abusers had all been young men, if my memory could be trusted. They could still be teaching. Why hadn't I acted on Mr X years ago? I could not explain that.

The first thing I did, though, was to email the Daily Mail story to my parents. This was not revenge. That my career at Ashdown was a mistake that they deeply regretted was something we had established a long time ago. If there was anything to forgive, I had forgiven it. I know they loved me. They were victims of a terrible fraud.

Besides, the sexual abuses were, in my version of the story, just detail: the real narrative was of five years of deliberate crushing of our individuality, the suppression of emotional freedom. Sexual bullying seemed just a part of the violence and cruelty that was the basic currency of the school and hundreds like it; the tools with which it squashed our little forms into the mould. Out of it would come upper-class Englishmen and women – ready to go and run an Empire or, at least, take charge of lesser mortals with normal feelings.

So went my thinking. Nothing unfamiliar: it has been said by British liberals from George Orwell onwards. Psychiatrists I have spoken to agree that, yes, while sexual and physical abuse is the headline grabber (and what makes criminal cases), real damage is done to children and adults by long-term psychological abuse. A child may recover from a blow, but not from the withdrawal of love and the denial of safety – the "complex trauma" child psychologists talk of. Comfy with my understanding, I was someone who had dealt with his schooldays.

But then I got an email back from my mother. What she wrote stripped away my reading and intellectualising, like so many useless bandages. She said I had told her about Mr X.

Then I cried. Because that summoned a picture: a small boy, nervous, excited in his new clothes and tie, ready to drive to Ashdown House on a September morning in 1969. My little brother and sisters gathered round to wave me off. A few weeks before I'd sat up late to watch the astronauts land on the moon on the TV. I wanted to be an adventurer, too. This journey seemed like the beginning. I was as brave and trusting as only the innocent can be. I never really trusted an adult again, not until I was one myself.

My mother's email upended my 52-year-old's view of my Ashdown self. I'd thought that September day was the last of my bravery. That I had been crushed, totally. In a privately published book of appreciation given to Billy Williamson for some anniversary shortly before his death in 1976, there is a selection of some pupils' prize-winning work. It includes a story I wrote when I was 12.

It's a plain account of a self-centred little boy who is given a rabbit for his birthday. The novelty wears off, the boy, careless and cruel, fails to clean the hutch or feed the rabbit. His mother warns him to look after it better; he punishes the rabbit by throwing mud and stones at it. When eventually it dies, he weeps as he buries it. But then a few days later, when a fox digs up the rabbit's corpse, he doesn't notice. "Nor were the flowers on its grave ever renewed," is the last phrase.

That story of the selfish little boy and the all-knowing adults has long seemed to me as good a totem as any to show that the school had done the job it was paid for. Ashdown had broken me, as you do when you train an animal, and then drilled me until I was a suitable citizen. But my mother's revelation showed I had kicked back. In fact, I had broken the most important of all of Billy's rules. I had told tales out of school. l specifically said a teacher was touching me in a way I didn't like and that I "hated" him. And she had gone straight to the school to raise hell with the headmaster's wife.

That may explain Mr X's disappearance shortly after (to teach at another school, according to the Ashdown School Bulletin of that year). It may explain the way the headmaster targeted me in the following years, singling me out in front of the school as a fraud, a failure and a perpetrator of "filthy behaviour". But it gave me a new vision of the brave little boy who wouldn't be cowed by Billy Williamson: the boy who spoke out.

And so I thought of those others, today and in the past, at Ashdown and all the other schools who wanted to speak up. I thought of the children in council care homes, in borstals and mental institutions, who over the years were left in thrall to adults without protection. I thought of the ruined marriages, the let-down kids, the suicides, the stunted and miserable lives – the great swathe of collateral damage that psychological trauma leaves. I thought of all the kids taken from their homes too early and thus denied, as the writer David Thomas once put it, the chance to love.

I thought particularly of the 45,000 under-10s in the UK who are in local authority care today. Of the 2,000 or so kids nine or younger – too young, according to any child psychologist – whose parents are now sending them to boarding school. For convenience, or notions of status, or just because they did not love them enough, to taking a mad gamble with their children's emotional health, with their lives. And I thought of all the head-teachers who have protested that schools risk being closed by the legal actions, that that was then and this is now, that the abuses of the old boarding schools could not possibly happen today. I decided to go and see Ashdown. And I decided to talk to the police.

Pedophiles seeking to download sexual abuse “how to” manuals will be treated like extremists obtaining bombing-making guides online, British Prime Minister David Cameron said, announcing that the measure would be in his Queen’s Speech law program.

Cameron said he wanted to close a loophole that allows sexual predators to legally produce and possess "manuals" advising them how to identify and groom potential victims, as well as to evade police detection.

"It's completely unacceptable that there is a loophole in the law which allows pedophiles to write and distribute these disgusting documents. I want to ensure we do everything we can to protect children – and that's why I am making them illegal," Cameron told the Sunday Times, referring to his legislative program, which according to tradition will be read out by Queen Elizabeth II during the State Opening of Parliament on June 4.

The new law is expected to be on the books in time for the general election next year, and could be implemented in an amendment to the Obscene Publications Act 1959, the newspaper reports.

The move follows the lead of the expansive Terrorism Act 2000, which outlawed terrorist training manuals.

The loophole was first discovered after the GCHQ intelligence agency and the National Crime Agency found examples of the guides in the deep web, which is not indexed by standard search engines such as Google. It is currently unknown just how many such documents exist online or how many have been downloaded.

Attempts to clamp down on sexual predators come in the wake of revelations that a pedophile teacher drugged and abused up to 64 boys at a leading private school.
William Vahey, who taught history and geography at Southbank International School in London between 2009 and 2013, committed suicide last month after the FBI was set to investigate a USB memory stick containing sexually explicit images of naked children dating back to 2008.

The FBI described Vahey as one of the most prolific sexual offenders of all time.

The veteran entertainer Rolf Harris is a serial molester of girls and young women who for decades used his celebrity status to publicly grope a string of victims on the assumption they would never dare to complain about him, a court has heard.

Harris, 84, indecently assaulted girls as young as seven or eight, doing so "with impunity", often when others were nearby, seemingly finding the risk of discovery an extra sexual thrill, prosecutors said.

Harris was known at one Australian TV channel as "the octopus" because of the way he put his hands all over women, Southwark crown court, in south London, was told.

One of the alleged victims was the daughter of a family friend, who Harris first assaulted when she was 13, continuing to do so for many years, the court heard, grooming her "like a pet". The jury was read a letter from Harris to the girl's father in which he admitted a sexual relationship – while insisting it began when the girl was of legal age – and begged for forgiveness.

"When I see the misery I have caused [the alleged victim] I am sickened by myself. You can't go back and change things that you have done in this life – I wish to God I could," Harris wrote.

The Australian-born TV star, also a respected artist, was a Jekyll and Hyde character, said Sasha Wass QC, opening the prosecution case.

Harris could be kind and was undoubtedly talented, she said. "But, concealed behind this charming and amicable children's entertainer, lay a man who exploited the very children who were drawn to him.

"There is a Jekyll and Hyde nature to Rolf Harris and this dark side of Rolf Harris was obviously not apparent to all of the other people he met during the course of his work, and it was not apparent to those who may want to testify to his good character."

Harris listened impassively from the glassed-in dock, using a hearing loop headset. His wife, Alwen, sat with other relatives and supporters.

The prosecution case spans 25 years from the late 1960s and covers 10 complainants, none of whom can be named for legal reasons. Harris faces charges in connection with only four of these – the remainder allege offences which took place outside the UK before 1997, the date before they could be prosecuted in a British court.

Seven of the 12 indecent assault charges are connected to the family friend, who alleges she was first groped by Harris while on a holiday in the late 1970s. Wass described the first alleged assault, at a hotel, which began when Harris pretended to hug and tickle the girl, then 13, after she emerged from a shower. Wass said: "You will see a pattern during this case of Mr Harris approaching girls in a purely friendly way and then, once he is in close physical contact with them, he takes advantage of the situation in order to indecently assault them."

The girl was assaulted two days later, with similar events occurring when she returned to England, often taking place when Harris visited her family home, the court heard. They happened even if others were nearby, Wass said. "Maybe that was part of the excitement for him, knowing he could do this and knowing he could get away with it."

The alleged victim was left anxious and panicky, and aged 14 she began to drink gin when she knew Harris was due to visit, according to the prosecution. Before long she had an alcohol problem, Wass said.

The girl presumed she would not be believed if she made allegations against "a pillar of society, a well-respected man and someone who was known as being fond of children", Wass noted. She added: "He never treated her as an equal or a human being. He never had a meaningful conversation with her. She felt she was just his little toy."

When the alleged victim finally told her family in the 1990s, her father wrote to Harris, and he replied saying he was in "a state of abject self-loathing".

The alleged assault on the youngest victim, who was seven or eight at the time, happened after Harris signed an autograph for her in the late 1960s in southern England, then sexually touched her, the court was told.

Even though the girl was young, she knew the touching was wrong, and threw the autograph to the floor, feeling "all the happiness had gone", Wass said.

The prosecution led the jury through a series of other alleged assaults in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Malta, involving girls and women aged 11 or 12 to 24.
The oldest alleged victim was a TV makeup artist whose first thought, after Harris allegedly repeatedly groped her in front of other people, was, "Oh my God, this man works with children."

The most recent alleged assault saw Harris grope a 15-year-old girl and her mother at a public event in New Zealand, the jury was told. When the mother complained, Harris whispered: "She liked it," indicating the daughter, Wass said.

The great majority of the allegations place the testimony of the alleged victims against the denials of Harris, Wass told the jury. But she stressed that none of the women knew each other and almost all only went to the police in the wake of the Jimmy Savile case.

They all told strikingly similar stories, Wass said, showing "a persistent pattern of sexual offending by Harris over a 25 year period", in which he repeatedly touched young girls in public with no warning.

She told the jury: "You have to ask yourself: have all the girls, unknown to each other, made it up? Or are they telling the truth and they are describing the dark side of Mr Harris, the Mr Hyde that lies within."

Harris, from Bray in Berkshire, denies 12 charges of indecent assault. The trial continues on Monday.

Instead, these resources should be allocated, entirely, for an IRS Child Exploitation & Trafficking Unit.

With so many police, judges, clergy, state and federal employees across America involved in the child porn industry Americans should be able to turn to the IRS’s Whistleblower program. Apparently, the IRS cares about trafficked children. That’s good news because America’s Attorney General, Eric Holder, does not.

With billions being laundered in black money it makes solid economic sense for the IRS to focus on the child porn industry. In these cases, they were importing and trafficking in Russian and East bloc women as sex slaves.

I want to talk about the children that are native to any war zone. The CIA did this across Africa, and anywhere they went as a standard part of their operations.

The names of the front companies will change over time. I am writing this down from memory after being inside the CIA for decades. Some of the details may be off, but the gist of the material will be correct.

GATHERING THE "HARVEST" OF ORPHANS IN WAR ZONES

The CIA and its corporate bosses like the Rockefellers and Bushs make about 1,000 USD per kid from a war zone if they sell them to auctioneers. Of that 1,000, the CIA will get about 300, and about 700 will go to the corporate bosses. For drugs the split is more like 15 USD per 100 in profit going to the CIA.

There is much more money to be made when the bosses keep the kids in their own hands. So the best kids are skimmed off the top and never make it to the auction houses. Kids are skimmed off either because of looks or smarts.

A smart kid, like I was, can be a life long asset and make an owner a lot more money. About 1 -2 percent of kids are tried that way, as spies or corporate slaves. About 5 percent of the kids are skimmed off by the bosses for looks.

The best of these end up as a house boy or girl of a politician that the boss wants to keep happy and controlled. They will also be spying on the politician for the boss. In that position some of these kids make it into adulthood.

PRESIDENTIAL MODELS: HARVESTING THE CHILDREN OF US MILITARY OFFICERS

"Presidential Models" who get trained by the CIA are in that category. Brice Taylor is an example of that (See her books).

She says that 3,000 women got made into Presidential Sex Slaves per the figure she heard. They are mind control victims.

See Dr. Colin Ross's book "Bluebird: the deliberate creation of multiple personalities by psychiatrists" which he wrote after having patients like this and reading 15,000 pages of CIA documents released under the Freedom of Information Act.

Their minds were split using torture at an early age. Mine was split at age 3 to 4. One or more of the parts is often very psychic. There are however much better ways to make accurate psychics without trauma.

Presidential Models often have been trained by the CIA in special ESP skills like having a photographic memory. Other special CIA spy ESP skills they may have been programmed to have include the ability to speak "in tongues" i.e. in any language, the ability to see and hear at a distance, as in clairvoyance and clairaudience; A/K/A remote viewing, shapeshifting, and forecasting the future, including stock prices, etc.

The CIA needed these skills in spies. Shamans had the skills and the CIA did the R&D to get them. (See John Perkins' "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" and "Shapeshifting" books.)

WHITE HOUSE DINNERS - LUCRATIVE PROSTITUTION OF AMERICAN BOYS & GIRLS OF ANY AGE

Presidential models made in CIA mind control fashion, beautiful girls and boys who were charming spies without advanced ESP skills, usually fetched $10,000-30,000 a day for their bosses when used at White House functions.

The girls would be at the White House dinner and the men would indicate their preferences by talking to them and showing an obvious interest in them.

Either the man was rich enough not to care about the cost until he received the bill later or he was politely informed of the price by having it listed on the bottom of a card placed next to his drink on a silver or gold tray.

It was up to "the Butler" to know which category the man was in, in terms of his wealth and personal preferences.

I usually came into dinner on the arm of the DCI and sat next to him through much of the evening so that he could have me answer his questions as a remote viewer of known accuracy in that personality.

It was up to him if I was to be surrendered to another man for the evening as it affected national security.

Consider for a moment the usual White House dinner. They range in size from 5 women to about 50 women slaves on a given night.

At an average profit of $20,000 per night, 5 nets $100,000 and 50 nets $1 million. Not all nights does that happen.

But roughly the President personally makes a good $30-100 million a year just on the Presidential model sex slaves. That starts to tell you about the conflict of interest in stopping this corrupt system. It has been going on a long time, since about President Kennedy.

President Carter is the only exception to the rule that I know of.

Since I personally was forced into the beds of Johnson, VP Nelson Rockefeller, Reagan, Bush, Sr., Clinton and Bush, Jr. this is not theoretical for me.

However, because I was really a Director of Central Intelligence Model primarily, I ended up mainly in the beds of DCIs from Helms to Tenet.

The $100,000-a-month club to ensure one's political success through blackmail

Now let's talk a little bit about the babies coming out of war zones because I strayed too far into the American children in talking about the escorts for foreign and domestic dignitaries.

Women are raped in war and often abandon the babies at birth. The CIA helps fund orphanages in the war zones so that it can skim off the kids it wants. The children under 2 usually are too neglected to survive - failure to thrive syndrome.

The cute ones are bought up by the CIA for the cabal bosses and sold as part of the $100,000 a month club.

Rich people like fine wines to show up monthly and this is a variation of that. They are signed up for it almost automatically without any choice in the matter if they attend certain high class estate ceremonies around the world hosted by people like the Rockefellers.

Getting in the door means that you can't get out of it again when the ceremony starts unless you are a very good spy. The ceremony will involve the human sacrifice of some person - often a toddler or young virgin.

After that initiation in the fine art of human sacrifice the guest is expected to carry on that tradition of entrapping others just the same way. Failure to do so is associated with death and blackmail threats. Death can be the result of "accidents".

Few people are sophisticated enough to know not to get into one of these traps or how to get out of them. They have families and they cave in to the pressure. It then perpetuates itself. They get a baby a month to ritually kill and entrap all the politicians and police chiefs that might try to stop their rise to fame.

REVERSE CHRISTIANITY - THE RELIGION OF PRESIDENTS, POLITICIANS & DCIs

They go on practicing Christianity by mouth by day, and satanism by night in their deeds. Some of them are mind controlled by the trauma and drugs at the initial ceremony and do not even know later that they are satanists. Others do know.

I would say that about 20 percent are fully aware that what they are doing is evil and wrong and just don't know how to stop it. About 50 know what they are doing but deny that it is evil.

They excuse it as their right to be pagan and uninhibited. Then about 10 percent are full multiples and are clueless during the day as to what is happening at night.

Then about another 20 percent are too lazy and apathetic to think about what they are doing. They are just doing it because others do it.

ORPHANAGES FUNDED BY THE CIA

Let's get down to some of the details, where an investigator could start to hit pay dirt, namely Yugoslavia, which had many abandoned babies, many of them light skinned.

The CIA founded three major orphanages including one of UNESCO’s. The Rockefellers funded four orphanages. There was overlap at one of them which caused some problems. The CIA "talent scouts" came by a week after Rockefeller’s did and that made the nuns suspicious.

In each case, the nuns were told that the scouts were working for large adoption agencies in the US and the kids were to be quickly processed in a large lot for adoption.

The local orphanages in Yugoslavia were absolutely swamped. There were tons of babies and large numbers of war orphans, the later mainly the result of US bombs killing their parents. Some had been dug out of the rubble days later. Many of these kids were extremely traumatized already.

That saved the CIA some of the work to traumatize them themselves, if they were going to be made into mind control slaves. Some of the bright ones get training to be heads of puppet govt's later.

The US sends them back in 20-30 years later as the head of a country or as an important minister.

Any time you hear of a US-educated native of a country returning to it to suddenly assume an important position in its new US-friendly govt. think about this mind control slave possibility. It happens much more often than people realize.

The CIA and the cabal bosses have been making mind control slaves out of war orphans by the thousands since WWII.

The CIA has been using children from orphanages since its inception

Remember that in WW II the UK and US took in Jewish and East bloc refugee children WITHOUT their parents. Their parents were alive the US just didn’t want them.

A woman I know well, who is older than I, ended up training some of the East Bloc orphans picked up by the CIA, not long after the end of WW II. They were trained as child prodigy musicians. Then they were inserted into East Bloc foreign embassies to provide musical and sexual services. They spoke the local language and passed as natives. They themselves did not know otherwise. But they had personalities that went to phone booths and called the CIA to report on the actions of their East Bloc "owners" at the embassies. Most of the kids were uncovered and killed by the KGB as "foreign agents."

The median time they lasted in the field before discovery and death was about two weeks. Some never made it through their first sonata.

The KGB figured out the scam after the first couple of months of it.

The CIA kept on sending in the kids knowing that their operational cover was blown. It did that for another two years just to pretend to its bosses including the Congressional Oversight committee that this was a successful covert operation that justified the CIA’s mind control experiments on children.

I read the reports at the CIA. I was there as a mind control slave for 40 years and I had an interest in the subject in one of my more rebellious personalities.

I never had the heart to tell that woman what actually happened to the kids she helped train as child spies while she was 12. She started training them after the KGB knew about that specific musical ruse at embassies, and after the CIA knew that the KGB knew and was killing them basically on arrival.

I know that is hard to believe. Betrayal of even its own agents is the middle name of the CIA.

The CIA during the Vietnam War sent thousands of South Vietnamese spies into North Vietnam after it knew that this secret route into the North was blown and the men were ending up being tortured and killed.

The US got caught betraying their agents of because it refused to pay the promised death benefits to the families. Some of the men who later returned after years of horrendous torture sued the CIA. They won a settlement on it.

I remember reading about it a long time ago in Time or Newsweek Magazine. Talk about betrayal. It is the middle name of most intelligence agencies.

Agencies are not run to protect their country’s citizens but to make big bucks for the overlords.

The CIA betrayed Korean children and sent them to almost certain death. The CIA is an equal oppurtunity "employer" who likes to pay nothing at all whenever possible for its spies

One of the worst scams that I know of in Yugoslavia during the US take-over wars in the 1990’s involved an orphanage in Bosnia near Sarajevo.

I kept looking for a reference on it in Canadian General Mac Kenzies’s autobiography of his time there as head of the UN Humanitarian effort.

I knew that he knew of the incident because I called him on the phone to report it to him and ask him to intervene.

Yet I could not find one word of it in his biography—that is how whitewashed the world is of these sex abuse scandals involving US politicians.

I had an assignment in Bosnia shortly before MacKenzie got there. The fighting in that region came later. I was assigned to set up an orphanage for the CIA. They wanted this really big facility built, ten to twenty times as large as anyone could believe was needed for that area.

My job was just to arrange to buy the land for the building of this big new “Catholic School” for children. The problem was that there were no schoolrooms in the plan, just endless dormitories.

The CIA wanted 10 acres of dormitories for kids. It looked more like a concentration camp for kids. And they wanted it built next to the train line. That train line to the coast was about the only thing in Sarajevo that did not get hit by bombs and artillery and continued working.

Regular people could not get out of the war zone. MacKenzie’s book shows that very plainly. Planes flew in supplies but the UN did not protect anyone or get anyone out. Those kids were not going to parents and to safety; they were going to sexual humiliation, torment, and eventually their deaths.

Now, I am a remote viewer. I could see what would happen to those kids if I helped the CIA buy land and build that facility so I came back empty handed.

The reason the CIA asked me to buy the land and not some regular person was that they wanted a piece of land that would be "defensible and not fall into enemy hands"---so they wanted a forecaster.

Hundreds of children are being kidnapped in Africa and brought to the UK for voodoo rituals, a UN watchdog said, also voicing alarm about the number of British pedophiles who prey on children abroad.

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) urged Britain to do more to stop this brutal form of people trafficking.

“We’re concerned about reports that hundreds of children have been abducted from their families in Africa and trafficked to the UK, especially London, for religious rituals,” Kirsten Sandberg, head of the CRC and a former Norwegian Supreme Court judge, said Thursday.

She said that trafficking for rituals was part of a wider problem where thousands of minors are brought to the UK, who end up being child prostitutes or being sexually exploited.

The CRC advised that Britain should “strengthen the capacity of law-enforcement authorities and judiciary to detect and prosecute trafficking of children for labor, sexual and other forms of exploitation, including for religious rituals.”

There have been numerous cases of children who have been brought to the UK from Africa and suffered torture and abuse, often as part of witchcraft rituals, AFP reports.

Victoria Climbie from the Ivory Coast was killed by her own relatives in 2000, who thought she was a witch.

More recently, in March 2012, Eric Bikubi and Magalie Bamu, both from the Democratic Republic of Congo, who moved to London, were found guilty of murdering Magalie’s teenage brother, Kirsty.

The prosecution argued that Bikubi had a “profound and disturbing” belief in witchcraft and although the defense said that Bikubi was suffering from schizophrenia, the judge sentenced both defendants to life in prison.

A year later the Metropolitan Police found the dismembered corpse of a Nigerian boy in the River Thames, who they believed was a victim of a ritual.

The CRC also warned about the number of British pedophiles who travel abroad – most notably to Southeast Asia, particularly Cambodia and Thailand, for sex with children. Orphanages were a favored destination where sex predators could pick on vulnerable kids.

“There are continued reports that United Kingdom citizens, including some convicted sex offenders, set up charities or travel abroad, where they sexually abuse children,” Sandberg said.

Her observation that prison life would adversely affect Richards was a rare and puzzling rationale, several criminal justice authorities in Delaware said. Some also said her view that treatment was a better idea than prison is a justification typically used when sentencing drug addicts, not child rapists.

Richards' 2009 rape case became public this month after attorneys for his ex-wife, Tracy, filed a lawsuit seeking compensatory and punitive damages for the abuse of his daughter.

A week-long operation across the US against child sex trafficking has resulted in the rescue of almost 170 children and the arrest of 281 pimps, according to the FBI.

The law enforcement operation represents the latest effort on behalf of the FBI’s Innocence Lost program, which since its 2003 creation has resulted in the recovery of some 3,600 children who faced sexual exploitation. In addition to arrests and child recoveries operations have resulted in 1,450 criminal convictions, 14 life in prison terms and the seizure of over $3.1 million.

"These are not children living in some faraway place, far from everyday life,” FBI Director James Comey said in announcing the law enforcement sting, which is known as Operation Cross Country.

"These are our children. On our streets. Our truck stops. Our motels. These are America’s children."

The massive anti sex-trafficking push was executed via partnerships between the Bureau and other law enforcement, including local and state police. The FBI currently operates 70 Child Exploitation Task Forces throughout the country.

According to Comey, one of the most disturbing dimensions to child sex trafficking is the increasing prevalence of online prostitution. Moreover, many of the children who were rescued during the latest sting were never reported missing.

The latest operation encompassed recovers and arrests in 106 cities, targeting casinos, truck stops, as well as websites advertising dating and escort services. Fifty-four FBI field divisions took part in the raids, along with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, underscoring the resources necessitated in identifying at-risk minors and collecting necessary evidence to file charges and intervene.

"Operation Cross Country reveals that children are being targeted and sold for sex in America every day," said John Ryan, president and CEO of the National Center.

The largest number of recovered minors occurred in Denver. In one instance a 19-year-old man was arrested for physically abusing a 16-year-old runaway after she had failed to collect enough money from her “dates,” reports USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/06/23/fbi-trafficking-sex-children/11271829/). The girl had been taken from one hotel to the next and told to perform sex acts, and was too afraid to escape.

In Oregon, meanwhile, authorities recovered one child and identified 20 adult prostitutes, some who had been involved in sex trafficking since the age of 13 or 14, according to the FBI's Portland office.

A former Downing Street adviser has been charged with making and possessing indecent images of children.

Patrick Rock, who was involved in Government policy on filtering online child abuse images, resigned shortly before his arrest in February.

The 63-year-old has had a glittering career as a Conservative Party adviser spanning 30 years and in the 1970s was credited with coining the slogan “cows moo, dogs bark, Labour puts up taxes”.

On Friday, he was charged with three offences of making indecent images of children and one offence of possession of 59 indecent images of children.

The four charges cover alleged offences committed between 31 July and 31 August 2013.

The pictures have been classed as level C by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP), defined as “indecent images depicting erotic posing with no sexual activity".

Mr Rock, a special adviser on policy, was arrested at his home in the early hours of 13 February and had resigned the day before.

The matter did not come to light until almost a month later, when a national newspaper’s enquiries forced Downing Street to release a statement confirming the rumours.

Asked about the charges at a press conference after an EU summit in Brussels on Friday, the Prime Minister said: "I won't be saying anything.

“It would be purely a matter for the courts and it wouldn't be appropriate to comment."

Mr Rock has been an influential figure behind the scenes in the Conservative Party for decades and unsuccessfully stood as an MP three times.

He met David Cameron when they were fellow advisers to the then Home Secretary, Michael Howard, in the 1990s and the Prime Minister brought him into the Downing Street policy unit in 2011.

Judith Reed, a senior lawyer with the Crown Prosecution Service's organised crime division, said: “We have determined that there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and that a prosecution is in the public interest.”

Mr Rock has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 3 July.

The Home Office is facing calls to explain why a 1980s dossier about alleged paedophiles at Westminster was "destroyed" by officials.

The document was handed to then Home Secretary Leon Brittan by Tory MP Geoffrey Dickens.

Lord Brittan passed concerns in it to the relevant authorities, but the file itself was not kept.

Labour MP Simon Danczuk said it may contain evidence that would identify child sex abusers.

The Home Office said a 2013 review found the "credible" elements of the dossier which had "realistic potential" for further investigation were sent to police and prosecutors while other elements were either not retained, or were destroyed.

In an earlier version of this story, we reported that the Home Office had launched a trawl for the missing dossier, but this had in fact already been carried out - even though most people, including Lord Brittan himself, appear to have been unaware of it.

Simon Danczuk had been pressing Lord Brittan to reveal what he knew about the dossier's contents - and for the Home Office to publish it in full - when officials released a statement saying they had already carried out a review that had found it had not been retained.

'Little fanfare'
A Home Office spokesman said Lord Brittan had not been contacted by the team who were conducting the review of old Home Office files, records and other papers to find out "what action was taken in respect of any material received".

But the team had found a letter from Lord Brittan to the late Tory MP Geoffrey Dickens, dated March 1984, which said some of the concerns he had raised about alleged abuse had been passed to the director of public prosecutions, who had passed them on to the police to investigate.

The review found that Lord Brittan had acted appropriately in dealing with allegations and it had "found no evidence of Mr Dickens expressing dissatisfaction about the action taken in respect of the information he had passed on".

Mr Danczuk told BBC News he also had been unaware of the review, a summary of which was published last year - but said it raised more questions than it answered.

"They must have published the review with little fanfare and people will ask why that would be the case," he told BBC News.

He called on the Home Office to reveal the outcome of any police investigations that may have resulted from the information in the dossier.

'Last refuge'

He added: "Why would you destroy such an important document? What action was taken? Were any prosecutions forthcoming? We need to know this. It's raising more questions than it answers."

Downing Street rejected calls to publish the review in full. The prime minister's official spokesman said: "The executive summaries fully reflect the work that was done."

On Tuesday, Mr Danczuk told the Commons Home Affairs Committee that politics was "the last refuge of child sex abuse deniers" and there was a view among many politicians that alleged offenders should not be named. He called on Lord Brittan to say what he knew about Mr Dickens' allegations.

On Wednesday morning, Lord Brittan issued a statement in which he said he had received a "substantial bundle of papers" from Geoffrey Dickens and had asked officials to "report back to me" if "action needed to be taken". He said he "did not recall" being "contacted further about these matters".

Shortly afterwards, the Home Office released a statement pointing to its 2013 report, which suggested Lord Brittan had, in fact, passed concerns raised by Mr Dickens to the relevant authorities.

It said:

"In response to concerns raised in Parliament and the media relating to the handling by the department of historical allegations of abuse, the permanent secretary commissioned an independent review of all relevant papers received by the department between 1979 to 1999 to identify any information received and the outcome.

"The review concluded the Home Office acted appropriately, referring information received during this period to the relevant authorities."
'Simply disappeared'
Lord Brittan then issued a further statement, saying:

"In the last hour I have been alerted to a Home Office independent review conducted last year into what information it received about organised child sex abuse between 1979 and 1999.

"The review found information had been dealt with properly.

"It also disclosed that material received from Mr Dickens in November 1983 and January 1984 had not been retained.

"However, a letter was sent from myself to Mr Dickens on March 20, 1984, explaining what had been done in relation to the files.

"The Home Office independent review is entirely consistent with the action I set out in my earlier statement. Whilst I could not recall what further action was taken 30 years ago, the information contained in this report shows that appropriate action and follow-up happened."Alison Millar, a lawyer representing alleged victims of abuse relating to the Westminster claims, condemned the failure to retain the dossier.

She said:

"My clients are incredulous at how this dossier can have simply disappeared. It seems inconceivable that a document of such importance can have simply disappeared.

Geoffrey Dickens was Conservative MP for Huddersfield West from 1979 until 1983; he was then elected for Littleborough and Saddleworth and held the seat until his death in 1995.

According to press reports at the time, he handed two dossiers to the Home Office in 1983-84. One of them, he reportedly said, concerned a civil servant and another one related to an employee of Buckingham Palace. They also contained allegations concerning the Paedophile Information Exchange, a group that campaigned to make sex between adults and children legal.

But in an interview with the Daily Express in August 1983 he also said he would expose eight prominent figures if the home secretary failed to act. He told the paper: "I've got eight names of big people, really important names, public figures. And I am going to expose them in Parliament."

In response, Lord Brittan said in a statement that he had received a "substantial bundle of papers" from Mr Dickens, which he had asked Home Office officials to examine and "report back to me" if "action needed to be taken".

A letter from Leon Brittan to Mr Dickens, dated March 1984, says: "In general terms, the view of the director of public prosecutions is that two of the letters you forwarded could form the basis for inquiries by the police and they are now being passed to the appropriate authorities."

UK police have opened an investigation into claims of a Westminster pedophile ring, saying they have a list of about 40 alleged child abusers, including over 10 current and former British politicians.

Whistleblower Peter McKelvie, whose claims prompted Operation Fernbridge, disclosed in his the latest report that up to 40 members of parliament and peers knew about or took part in the child abuse network.

Operation Fernbridge is a Scotland Yard investigation into allegations of a pedophile network with links to Downing Street.

Lawmakers - including former ministers and household names - from all three main political parties are included on the list.

Some of the alleged child abusers remain active in the UK parliament, while several others, including Cyril Smith and Peter Morrison, have already died.

“I believe there are sufficient grounds to carry out a formal investigation into allegations of up to 20 MPs and Lords over the last three to four decades, some still alive and some dead. The list is there,” McKelvie said. At least one witness has told police that he was abused by a Tory MP when he was under 10 years old in the 1980s.

Prime Minister David Cameron has ordered Mark Sedwill, the permanent secretary for the UK’s Home Office, to conduct an internal investigation into what happened to the dossier.

Other cases of child sexual abuse have been reported in the country.

Several high-profile figures have been arrested in connection with the multiple investigations into the abuse scandal surrounding Jimmy Savile, a disgraced former TV host with the state-funded British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). He died in 2011, but, following his death, hundreds of allegations of sex abuse and rape of minors became public.

Sexual abuse in Victoria’s out-of-home care system has been described as “endemic” after leaked documents revealed hundreds of reports of alleged rape, indecent assault and exploitation of minors in the year to March.

Internal documents reveal a total of 342 critical incidents of a sexual nature reported in the state’s child protection system, which houses children who are removed from their parents due to significant risk of harm.

The total includes 98 alleged rapes, 96 reports of indecent sexual assault and 73 alleged incidents of sexual exploitation, where children are abused in exchange for cash or other gifts, the ABC reported (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-07-03/documents-show-hundreds-of-sexual-abuse-allegations-in-homes/5570166).

Nearly three-quarters of the reported incidents took place in residential care homes, where about 500 children are currently placed. The small units usually house about four children each, with staff rostered on eight-hour shifts, including just one overnight.

Sandie de Wolf, the chief of children’s charity Berry Street, said the reports of abuse were an “indictment on the system”.

“Children are not removed from their families unless there’s very significant harm, so physical, sexual or emotional abuse, or severe family violence. So they've already been harmed by the adults who should have protected them,” she said.

She said the system was “under enormous pressure” from increasing numbers of children being removed from their parents, coupled with a “crisis” of decreasing numbers of foster carers. The result was children under 12 being placed in residential care against the Victorian government’s own guidelines.

Funding for the department of human services was also capped, de Wolf said, so the system was having to cater for more children without a commensurate bump in resources.

An auditor general’s report in March found the residential care system (http://www.audit.vic.gov.au/publications/20140326-Residential-Care/20140326-Residential-Care.pdf) had been “operating over capacity since at least 2008”.

“The residential care system is unable to respond to the level of demand and growing complexity of children’s needs,” the report found. “This puts at risk efforts to protect the child from harm, protect their rights and promote their development.”

The leaked statistics follow earlier reports (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-11/criminal-gangs-enticing-children-in-state-care-into-prostitution/5313632) that organised gangs of men were preying on children in state care, highlighted by the case of 22-year-old Emran Dad, a Shepparton man who police alleged traded sex for cash and cigarettes with children as young as 13. He pled guilty in 2012 and was jailed for three years.

The girl was sexually assaulted by two other children on numerous occasions, and has since tried to take her own life. Her brother was also alleged raped by an older boy.

The Victorian community services minister, Mary Wooldridge, said that cases of abuse and neglect “are always distressing”, but said that for some children, “residential care is the best option”.

“Children who come into the care of the state have experienced extreme trauma and often cannot be housed with extended family or foster families because of their complex and difficult behaviours,” she said.

The opposition spokeswoman for children and community services, Jenny Mikakos, said the figures were “absolutely shocking”. “From what I'm hearing, sexual exploitation appears to have become endemic in about the last two years,” she said.

Victoria’s children and young people commissioner, Bernie Geary, said he was aware of the statistics and was in the process of reviewing the issues and circumstances of sexual assault in residential care, with a report to parliament due in October.

“When we’re in a situation where we want to take kids away from harm, we tend to go for shelter first,” Geary said. “But shelter is only one part of nurturing, so we need to ensure that a young person is both nurtured and sheltered, and I’m conducting my review with that in mind.”

The UK Home Office has admitted that it can’t find 114 “potentially relevant files” relating to the pedophile scandal engulfing Westminster, in which there are allegations that senior political figures were involved in, or covered up, child sex abuse.

The lost files were part of a dossier compiled in the 1980s by the now deceased Conservative MP Geoffrey Dickens and which was passed to the then-Home Secretary Leon Brittan, British media reports.

Mr. Dickens, who died in 1995, told his family that he had details in the dossier that would “blow the lid off” the lives of powerful and famous child abusers.

This fairly lengthy 20-year period would have included anything received from Lord Brittan in 1983.

In a letter to Dickens at the time, Lord Brittan suggested his information would be passed to the police, but according to the Guardian Scotland Yard says it has no record of any investigation into the allegations.

Mark Sedwill, the current permanent secretary to the Home Office, said that four new leads had been passed on to Scotland Yard and a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said that “any relevant material that is submitted to us will be dealt with as appropriate.” The Met did not confirm if it had received any material, however.

But Sedwill also admitted that the Home Office had lost, destroyed or simply “not found” 114 potentially relevant files, the Telegraph reports.

In a letter to Keith Vaz, the chairman of the UK parliament’s home affairs select committee, Sedwill outlined the details of 2013 Home Office review in which he mentioned the 114 missing files.

Sedwill made it clear to Vaz that Dickens had submitted allegations of sexual offences over several years to a number of home secretaries, not just one dossier to Lord Brittan in 1983.

Sedwill also wrote to Prime Minister David Cameron on Saturday to announce that there would be a new investigation to see if the results of last year’s review “remain sound.”

According to Sedwill, a central Home Office database of 746,000 files stretching over the period 1979-99 had identified 527 files which could be relevant. From these, nine pieces of information about alleged child abuse were reported to the police and 114 files had gone missing or been destroyed.

This revelation has led to an immediate suspicion that there has been an attempt at a cover-up from inside Whitehall. A senior Tory MP and former children’s minister, Tim Loughton, has already accused the Home Office of trying to hide the facts.

Vaz has also expressed deep concern about the sheer number of files that have gone missing.

“It is a huge amount of files about a very sensitive issue. How do we know such a precise figure? Somebody must have known that these files existed. We know the Home Office loses passports and a couple of files here and there, but 114 is quite a lot of files to lose. I think we need to answer this,” he said.

He also expressed frustration that May has not yet become involved in the affair.
“I am a little concerned at the absence of the Home Secretary from most of these deliberations. This is the Home Office and she is the Home Secretary.”

Speaking on the BBC’s Andrew Marr show on Sunday, Lord Tebbitt, a former Conservative cabinet minister under Margaret Thatcher, said he believed there has been a cover-up because at the time people instinctively tried to protect the “system.”

“I think at the time most people would have thought that the establishment, the system, was to be protected, and if a few things had gone wrong here and there it was more important to protect the system than to delve too far into it. I think there may well have been [a cover-up]. But it was unconscious. It was the thing people did at that time,” Lord Tebbit said.

Labour MPs Simon Danczuk and Tom Watson are calling for an overarching Hillsborough-style inquiry in the matter, the Observer reports.

The Hillsborough disaster in the Hillsborough football stadium in Sheffield in 1989 resulted in the deaths of 96 people.It later emerged there had been a widespread cover-up by the police, who blamed it on drunken Liverpool football supporters. A government inquiry did not get to the bottom of what happened, but eventually under pressure from relatives and other campaigning groups, in 2012 a second, deeper inquiry found that the deaths were mainly due to police incompetence.

“Only an overarching inquiry will get to the facts, everything else the government says or does on this is a diversion,” said Watson.

While Danczuk pointed out that until the government is seen to be taking the issue seriously, the public will think they are trying to hide something.

“The public will think these documents have gone missing because it helps protect the names of those identified in them. That is the conclusion that many will come to, and who can blame them,” he said.

MPs will pay a heavy price for harbouring paedophiles in their midst.

As I was I was making my way from the House of Commons on Monday night after a late vote a Tory minister stepped out of the shadows to confront me. I'd never spoken to him before in my life but he blocked my way and ushered me to one side.

He warned me to think very carefully about what I was going to say the next day before the Home Affairs Select Committee when I'd be answering questions on child abuse.

'I hear you're about to challenge Lord Brittan about what he knew about child sex abuse,' he said. It wouldn't be a wise move, he advised me.

'It was all put to bed a long time ago.'

He warned me I could even be responsible for his death.

We looked at each other in silence for a second. I knew straight away he wasn't telling me this out of concern for the man's welfare.

There was no compassion in his voice.

As politicians made their way out of Westminster, I had no doubt that other conversations like this were taking place.

Indeed, this was confirmed when I spoke to other members of the Select Committee the next day.

They'd been paid similar visits. Phone calls had been made. Members who'd previously indicated they would ask me who I thought knew about the VIP child abuse ring at the notorious Elm Guest House in southwest London were suddenly silent.

During the committee hearing later that day, one MP asked if pressure had been put on me to keep quiet about suspected child abusers. I nodded. Yes, it had. The MP pursued it no further.

The next day, several people said to me it was surprising no one on the committee had pursued this answer, demanding to know where the pressure was coming from.

The answer is simple: it is because they all knew.

After being neglected for far too long, child abuse is now reviled at all levels of society. It generates disgust and anger.

I welcome the Home Office announcement yesterday that a senior lawyer is to investigate claims that a paedophile sex ring at Westminster has been covered up. But it is no substitute for the full scale public inquiry needed to establish the truth once and for all.

Recent events have led me to the inescapable conclusion that in politics, particularly when the focus is on members of parliament guilty of abusing children, it frequently generates indifference. That's not to say all politicians have a blind spot where this terrible crime is concerned.

There are some great campaigners across all parties working hard to protect children - as evidenced by the 130 MPs who have signed up to a call for a public inquiry into historic child abuse.

But among the higher echelons of party politics, where the real power resides, my impression is that there is little appetite to confront the abusers in their midst. Quite the opposite. The mood is defensive, the approach is dominated by silence. 'Move along, nothing to see here,' or 'what's the point in raking all that up old boy?' is the attitude I have seen time after time.

A few months ago police officers came to visit me to discuss an investigation into a current parliamentarian accused of horrific child abuse. I listened to some of the details of the alleged crimes and my stomach churned.

Did I think it was likely that their inquiries would be met by political interference, the police asked?

I looked at them in utter disbelief. How can the police put a Cabinet Minister behind bars for lying about speeding points but be worried they couldn't properly investigate someone for child abuse?

The incident spoke volumes about the mindset that pervades politics. This kind of obstructive, 'Look the other way, sweep it under the carpet' thinking threatens to drag politics to new depths of public hate.

I believe we're on the verge of a Savile-like scandal sweeping through Parliament. Yet, for most people at the top, this prospect is not even on their radar. They're completely impervious to it.

If the political classes thought the expenses scandal was the worst nadir politics could experience in terms of public opprobrium they should think twice.

Once the idea that paedophiles have been lawmakers gains wider traction and people start to think political parties have knowingly harboured paedophiles then our parliamentary democracy will suffer an enormous, near fatal blow, the likes of which it will take years to recover from.

That 's why it's so important that political leaders quickly get on the front foot where this issue is concerned. Grasp the nettle, order a Hillsborough-style inquiry into historic abuse and confront the failings of the past.

Let victims be finally heard. Nick Clegg has refused to investigate who knew about Sir Cyril Smith's appalling paedophilia in his party and it has cost the Lib Dems dear. But this problem is not exclusive to his party.

The Tories have yet to properly face up to the abuse of Margaret Thatcher's aide Sir Peter Morrison, outed by fellow Tories such as Edwina Currie as a paedophile after he died.

Equally, there are potentially problems on the horizon for Ed Miliband after police recently searched Greville Janner's office as part of an investigation into alleged child abuse committed by the Labour politician.

David Cameron's former senior aide Patrick Rock is now facing trial over child abuse images and the former Liberal president Des Wilson has recently spoken about a Liberal MP who liked attractive boys and frequently had to be rescued from trouble after being picked up by the police.

Against this unedifying backdrop, the spectre of former Home Secretary Leon Brittan's calamitous handling of a paedophile dossier given to him by his fellow MP, the late Geoffrey Dickens, looms large.

This is arguably the most damaging incident yet, given that the dossier is said to have named Jimmy Savile, Cyril Smith and Establishment paedophiles and wasn't acted on.

After previously denying all knowledge of the dossier, Brittan's muddled statements last week acknowledging he had indeed received a dossier and then confirming that it had disappeared will only make the public suspicious of another cover up to protect high society paedophiles.

'I know exactly what I am up against,' said Mr Dickens at the time, 'for I know that within the Establishment there are those who would not wish to see a change in the law.'

Last week, Mr Dickens's granddaughter Louise told me her grandad had been betrayed by Lord Brittan, who was Mr Dickens's parliamentary colleague and someone he regarded as a friend.

'My grandad was determined to do the right thing, he wanted to give abused children a voice and the Home Secretary dismissed his work,' she said.

'He was years ahead of his time,' she says of Mr Dickens and I believe she's right.

Only now is the full horror of what he warned of about to start sinking in. The NSPCC estimate that one in 20 children have been sexually abused. Thousands of children will never speak out against their abusers because they don't think anyone will believe them.

And so they carry it with them for the rest of their lives. It doesn't have to be like this. We can do a lot better job of protecting children. But it won't happen without political leadership. And nothing will really change until Parliament faces up to the scandalous abuses of power within every party that have ruined lives.

An Australian judge has incurred the wrath of child protection and gay rights advocates after stating that incest and pedophilia may no longer be considered taboo – just as gay relationships are now more accepted than they were in the 1950s and 60s.

District Court Judge Garry Neilson was recorded as saying that sexual contact between adults and children or siblings may no longer be regarded by society as “unnatural” or “taboo.”

Just as same-sex relationships were once considered socially unacceptable, “a jury might find nothing untoward in the advance of a brother towards his sister once she had sexually matured, had sexual relationships with other men and was now ‘available,' not having [a] sexual partner,” he said, as quoted by Australia’s Fairfax Media.

Neilson said that the primary reason for incest still being a crime is the high risk of genetic abnormalities in any children born as a result of the relationships.

“But even that falls away to an extent [because] there is such ease of contraception and ready access to abortion,” he said.

He made the comments in April, in the case of a 58-year-old man charged with repeatedly raping his younger sister in 1981 in west Sydney.

The man pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting her when she was 10 or 11 years old in 1973 or 1974, but pleaded not guilty to the 1981 charges when she was 18 and he was 26.

The judge was also found to have given a 55-year-old rapist a lighter sentence because he did not ejaculate inside his young niece or “treat her roughly.” She was 15 and 16 when she was raped in 2007 and 2008.

“His Honor took a favorable view of the most serious offense, count five, because there had been no ejaculation,” Appeal Court Justices Lucy McCallum, Monika Schmidt, and Derek Price wrote in their appeal ruling in March 2013, Australia’s Daily Telegraph reported.

Hetty Johnston – founder of Australian child sexual assault charity Braveheats – wrote to New South Wales Attorney-General Brad Hazzard, calling for Judge Neilson’s suspension.

“It is just the most outrageous statement,” Johnston told the Telegraph. “What sort of decisions has he been making? I think the community deserves to be reassured that this is not a view that is shared among the judiciary.”

Dr. Cathy Kezelman, president of Adults Surviving Child Abuse, told Fairfax Radio Network that Neilson's comments were archaic and “beyond belief.”

She said that profound damage is inflicted upon children when family lines are crossed in incest cases.

“It's finally been spoken about. But attitudes do need to shift. There are still a lot of myths, still a lot of entrenched, very damaging beliefs and that's why we need to speak out about it, attack those myths and educate people, so we're not hearing these outrageous statements,” she said, adding that the attorney-general needs to investigate the issue and that it is necessary to look at the “caliber and awareness” of judges.

Jed Horne, the policy and project officer of the New South Wales Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, told Australia's Star Observer that “the comments attributed to the judge are completely unacceptable.”

“Not only do they make a highly offensive comparison between being gay and sexual offences, but they are an affront to members of the community which have experienced sexual abuse in their lives,” he said.

About 1,400 children (http://www.theguardian.com/society/children) were sexually exploited in Rotherham over a 16-year period, according to a report that concluded "it is hard to describe the appalling nature of the abuse that child victims suffered".

The report on events in the town in South Yorkshire (http://www.rotherham.gov.uk/downloads/file/1407/independent_inquiry_cse_in_rotherham), between 1997 and 2013, found that in more than a third of these cases the youngsters were already known to child protection (http://www.theguardian.com/society/childprotection) agencies. It said there had been "blatant" collective failures by the council's leadership.

Council leader Roger Stone said: "Having considered the report, I believe it is only right that I, as leader, take responsibility on behalf of the council for the historic failings that are described so clearly in the report and it is my intention to do so.

"For this reason, I have today agreed with my Labour group colleagues that I will be stepping down as leader with immediate effect."

Despite Stone's resignation, chief executive Martin Kimber said no council officers will face disciplinary action.

Prof Alexis Jay, who wrote the report, said she found examples of "children who had been doused in petrol and threatened with being set alight, threatened with guns, made to witness violent rapes and threatened they would be next if they told anyone".

Jay said: "They were raped by multiple perpetrators, trafficked to other towns and cities in the north of England, abducted, beaten and intimidated." She said she found girls as young as 11 had been raped by large numbers of men.

The report said failures of the political and officer leadership of Rotherham council over the first 12 years she looked at were blatant, as the seriousness of the problem was underplayed by senior managers and was not seen as a priority by South Yorkshire police. Jay said police "regarded many child victims with contempt".

These failures occured despite three reports between 2002 and 2006 "which could not have been clearer in the description of the situation in Rotherham".

She said the first of these reports was "effectively suppressed" because senior officers did not believe the data. The other two were ignored, she added.

The report said: "By far the majority of perpetrators were described as Asian by victims." But, she said, councillors seemed to think is was a one-off problem they hoped would go away and "several staff described their nervousness about identifying the ethnic origins of perpetrators for fear of being thought racist".

She added: "Others remembered clear direction from their managers not to do so."

The spotlight first fell on Rotherham in 2010 when five men, described by a judge as sexual predators, were given lengthy jail terms after they were found guilty of grooming teenage girls for sex. The prosecution was the first of a series of high-profile cases in the past four years that have revealed the exploitation of young girls in towns and cities including Rochdale, Derby and Oxford.

Following the 2010 case, the Times claimed that details from 200 restricted-access documents showed how police and child protection agencies in the South Yorkshire town had extensive knowledge of these activities for a decade, yet a string of offences went unprosecuted.

The allegations led to a range of official investigations, including one by the home affairs select committee.

Last year, the South Yorkshire police and crime (http://www.theguardian.com/uk/ukcrime) commissioner, Shaun Wright, said there had been "a failure of management" at South Yorkshire police as he responded to a report into the force on this issue by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC).

The report concluded: "No one knows the true scale of the child sexual exploitation (CSE) in Rotherham over the years. Our conservative estimate is that approximately 1,400 children were sexually exploited over the full inquiry period, from 1997 to 2013."

In response, Rotherham council, which commissioned the report, said it accepted the findings, including the statement that failures "almost without exception" were attributed to senior managers in child protection services, elected councillors and senior police officers.

It accepted that failures were not down to "frontline social or youth workers who are acknowledged in the report as repeatedly raising serious concerns about the nature and extent of this kind of child abuse".

The council's chief executive, Kimber, said: "The report does not make comfortable reading in its account of the horrific experiences of some young people in the past and I would like to reiterate our sincere apology to those who were let down when they needed help."

"The report confirms that our services have improved significantly over the last five years and are stronger today than ever before.

"This is important because it allows me to reassure young people and families that, should anyone raise concerns, we will take them seriously and provide them with the support they need.

"However, that must not overshadow – and certainly does not excuse – the finding that for a significant amount of time the council and its partners could and should have done more to protect young people from what must be one of the most horrific forms of abuse imaginable."

At lights out one Sunday evening within weeks of starting at his senior school, Joel Shaw was “stripped, sexually assaulted and publicly humiliated by my housemaster jeered on by loads of my peers”, he recalls bitterly. It resulted, he claims, in him being remorselessly taunted as being this master’s ‘BumBoy’, a nickname seared into his memory and one that dogged him throughout his school career.

“I want an apology,” says Joel (not his real name). He has recently made a claim for damages against the boarding school where he was allegedly abused nearly 30 years ago at the age of 13. “I want an acknowledgement abuse happened and also recognition of how it affected me.”

The taunting – publicly, vocally, and therefore known to other staff at the school – only reinforced his feelings of anger and shame at what he says was done to him. He remains conflicted about the close relationship he subsequently developed with the teacher, who, he says, took pains to nurture his enthusiasms and helped shape his deep appreciation of the arts. The confusion for a teenager was agonising, he says, and, as a man, the shame remains.

Last year, to Shaw’s horror, his alleged abuser emailed him at his place of work, “asking whether I’d care to ‘indulge in some nostalgic reminiscences’”, he says.

“I broke out into a cold sweat, given the abuse that he’d subjected me to as a new boarder. This is only conjecture, but I think he liked me, and wanted to revive good memories of times we spent in his living room when we put the school magazine together, drinking lager, listening to his amazing classical music collection,” says Shaw.

Feeling shaken, furious and shocked by the approach “out of the blue, after so many years”, Shaw made a complaint to police. His old housemaster was questioned but there will be no criminal prosecution: he is the only complainant and under the legislation in force at the time, the type of abuse he was subjected to is not covered.

Given his claim against the school, is money what he’s after?

“Definitely not,” says Shaw. “But realistically, it might help to pay for the years of therapy I’ve had to do to get my head around the multiple betrayals.”

Systems of abuse
Shaw is one of many of children who now claim they were sexually, physically and emotionally abused when they were sent away to UK boarding schools and fee-paying day schools. After years of repressing his experience, he is now in contact with other ex boarders who, like him, express sadness and rage that the precious years in which a boy becomes a man were indelibly tainted by their experience of abuse. Trapped sometimes by denial, sometimes by disgust, and sometimes even by feelings of loyalty to their school, many are only now, in their 30s, 40s and 50s, finding themselves able to report perpetrators to police. Some wait until their parents are dead before making a complaint, not wishing to inflict pain, guilt and regret on mothers and fathers in their twilight years.

Increasingly, however, ex pupils are bringing civil actions against their schools for failing to protect them from abuse. Their alma maters are having to face up to discomforting accusations from claimants that in many cases, teachers were suspected of indecently assaulting pupils, but were never reported to the authorities. Often, complainants say that these teachers were instead quietly dismissed, and then found jobs at other schools where they could have continued crimes against vulnerable children.

Prosecutions for child abuse in Britain’s public schools are no longer uncommon – the last 10 years have seen a number of both current and former teachers convicted and jailed. And the past 12 months have seen an explosion of allegations that are rocking fee paying schools to their august foundations. Earlier this year, allegations from ex pupils of some of the country’s most gilded institutions were emblazoned in a series of front page articles in The Times.

The publicity clearly galvanised other alumni, who, taking courage from the bravery of their classmates, made their own reports of abuse to police. As a result, at the time of writing, more than 20 former and current staff members have found themselves under investigation at the prestigious St Paul’s School in west London and its feeder prep school Colet Court. Two teachers, who were in post when the allegations surfaced, have since resigned, one of whom has recently been charged. In another recent high profile case, 20 former pupils at Ashdown House prep school in Sussex – where London mayor Boris Johnson was a boarder – have recently come forward with complaints about extreme cruelty and sex offences committed on them as young boys. A number of teachers are being investigated.

As more and more ex boarding school pupils come forward, it appears momentum is gathering, and the number of complainants could reach into the hundreds. The past 12 months have been a turning point; there had been scandals before, but it’s the concentration, number and coverage of allegations that have caught attention. At Slater and Gordon, child abuse solicitor Liz Dux says she has seen “a huge increase in claims against schools, the vast majority of which are independent”.

If enough civil claims are brought, schools could suffer major financial losses, whether or not they are insured. Paying damages could cost others hundreds of thousands, without the true scale of the scandal ever being made public. So what impact are these allegations having on the reputations, finances and futures of the UK fee-paying schools? And how are they dealing with civil actions brought by their alumni who claim to have suffered adulthoods blighted by the psychological anguish that is the aftermath of abuse?

Past offences
Nine schools that have experienced either the conviction of former teachers for sex offences, or are currently embroiled in criminal investigations were contacted by Newsweek for comment. None of the proposed areas of questioning would have required detail about the ongoing criminal cases, yet all but one – St Benedict’s in Ealing – either refused to be interviewed or failed to respond despite repeated requests. They were Caldicott in Buckinghamshire; King’s, Rochester in Kent; Wellington College, Berkshire; Beeston Hall, Norfolk; St Paul’s and Colet Court, west London; Downside, Somerset; and Ashdown House, Sussex.

Crisis management advice is generally to be open and honest in response to enquiries, so this refusal to engage may offer some insight into the mindset of schools grappling with the dilemma of how to deal with a rapidly escalating scandal. Schools’ reluctance to comment is all the more surprising because to date, it seems that parents have not been put off. At St Benedict’s, the roll has been on the up for the past eight years and, overall, there are about 1,700 more children boarding in the UK this year compared to last.

“My view is that the various abuse convictions and scandals have done absolutely no harm to schools in terms of their waiting lists,” says Tom Buchanan, media consultant to a number of independent schools. “I can’t think of any school I’ve advised that has had a drop in numbers. This speaks to a generalised acceptance of there being a risk that goes with the territory. And of course parents always think it won’t happen to their child.”

Solicitor Peter Garsden, senior partner at Abney Garsden who heads up the child abuse department says that while some reputational damage to a school is almost inevitable, particularly if a criminal case hits the headlines, “the further away in time [the abuse occurred], the more easy it is for them to distance themselves from it”.

What if a contemporaneous abuse case was to be reported to police and the press got hold of it? That, says Garsden, is highly unlikely. “We haven’t got any modern day institutional abuse cases on our books. Experience shows that kids can’t deal with the abuse while it’s going on. They bury it till later.”

However, even if police are unable to bring a criminal prosecution, schools are not off the hook. There are, Garsden observes, a number of reasons why it may be impossible for complainants to have their day in the high court, not least because the perpetrator may be dead. The complainant themselves may also be too fragile to cope with the stress of a trial. But that still leaves schools open to a civil claim, and if a number of former pupils allege abuse, the liabilities are potentially catastrophic.

What are victims looking for when they bring a civil suit? “Justice,” says Garsden simply. “Money tends to mean nothing – [abuse survivors] often give it to their children because, as they see it, they’re being paid for underage sex.”

Schools will normally be insured, but if the alleged abuse took place years ago, it may not be possible to identify the insurance company which provided the cover at the time. This means the school itself may have to foot the legal bill and stump up for damages if they lose. The total can easily run to hundreds of thousands of pounds. Clearly, the stakes are high, and mean that once a claim is made, a school has to perform a delicate balancing act, weighing the loss of reputation if a case is dragged through the courts against the cost of settling and paying damages quietly.

If a school opts to settle, specialist child abuse solicitor Samantha Robson observes that it’s unlikely parents – either of pupils already attending the school or those considering it for their children – will ever know that there’s been an abuse case to answer, although settlements are made with no admission of wrongdoing to begin with. Gagging orders are a typical condition of a financial settlement, she notes, “because if you were searching on the internet for a school for your son or daughter and you see this coming up, then you’re going to think twice”.

“Even with insurance, schools can have a massive excess, and this would be paid out on every subsequent claim, so that’s another reason for defending,” Robson explains. “But it may also be that insurers don’t want to have to meet lots of other expensive claims, and so insist on going to court rather than settling.”

House of cards
At the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) national director Hilary Moriarty says that her concern for the future of UK boarding schools lies not in the prospect of droves of British parents hauling their children out when an abuse story hits the news – she doesn’t see that happening – but with foreign parents getting cold feet.

“If the accounts of abuse are sufficiently frightening, for a parent in Hong Kong or China, who wants excellent teaching in English and is choosing a school, well, they have a choice,” she says. “[They] could go to America, Canada, New Zealand or Australia, and those countries are being very much more welcoming to overseas students than ourselves. Put that in the balance with stories from big newspapers like The Times, and it’s casting a shadow from the past over today’s schools, which are different places.”

Moriarty is adamant – as is St Benedict’s – that the safeguarding of children at British public schools has been transformed in recent years. Moriarty points to the fact that boarding schools are subject to three-yearly inspections by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, in which children are asked directly about their experience of being educated in that setting. “One of the ways the world is different now is that we live in a climate where allegations are more likely to be made by a child, and properly received, and properly investigated,” she says. “No one can ever say that this is watertight, but we have robust systems. The security of schools now comes from the fact that you can’t be complacent. They are alert, and that very alertness is your defence.”

Independent schools, Joel Shaw points out, are, in the end, businesses. The recent apology made at the BSA annual conference, he says, was at least in part about managing their brand reputation. Prospective parents may want a more cast iron guarantee than an apology and a promise to do better: Dux observes pointedly that nothing has changed in English and Welsh law to compel schools to react any differently to suspected or known abuse than they did in the past.

“There have been cases even in the last four years where heads have had reports [of abuse] and have not actioned those reports and abuse has occurred subsequently,” she says. “That’s why there has to be mandatory reporting of abuse.” Without it, she does not believe children are safe.

In the wake of the various abuse scandals that have erupted across the British fee-paying – and also state-funded – schools, there is now considerable momentum for “mandatory reporting” – a law requiring professionals who work with children who know or suspect child abuse to consult the local council’s child protection officer for independent advice on what action should be taken next, whether internal investigation or an immediate referral to police. Failure to report would be a criminal offence. Campaigners believe this legislation would introduce a stronger culture of abuse prevention as well as supporting and protecting mandated staff: Tom Perry, a Caldicott abusee who also campaigns for mandatory reporting in school settings says that “in the absence of law, staff who do report are, by default, whistleblowers with very little protection”.

Increasing numbers of MPs are now backing the measure, though opposition from some surprising quarters remains. Children’s charity the NSPCC has only just reversed its position that failure to report even known abuse should be criminalised: it now says that the individuals heading up institutions that cover up abuse should be prosecuted, but does not support a law against failure to report reasonable grounds for suspecting that children are being groomed, indecently assaulted or even raped.

This is not good enough, say campaigners, who emphasise that mandatory reporting is not intended to criminalise hordes of people – it is intended to prevent abusers from viewing school pupils as easy pickings. The MP Cheryl Gillan said in parliament that “given the flood of non-recent cases of child abuse in schools that we see reported every week in the media, we now know that discretionary reporting does not work . . . at the moment, the guidance is frequently ignored”.

Perry explains why he believes children themselves cannot be relied on to report abuse as it’s happening.

“The dynamics of abuse have not changed,” he says. “It may be deeply uncomfortable to acknowledge, but the child mistakenly believes themselves to be in a relationship with the abuser, and will therefore feel they are committing a betrayal by speaking out. You can be a child with a mobile phone and all the ‘awareness’ in the world, but you still have to speak. Child abuse is a unique crime because it is the only one in which often both the perpetrator and the victim are equally motivated, for different reasons, to keep it secret. If staff are then not required to report reasonable grounds for suspecting abuse, contemporaneous discovery is almost impossible.”

The Department of Education is now reconsidering its opposition to mandatory reporting, after the then secretary of state for education Michael Gove made a surprise announcement in March that a compelling case for a new law had been made to him by an abuse survivor.

It’s difficult to gauge public schools’ position on whether they consider it necessary to strengthen their safeguarding with criminal sanctions for failure to report, as those asked were not willing to be interviewed. But with two decades of experience representing victims of abuse, Peter Garsden says that without such a law, the system is always going to fail. “Human instinct will always be with selfish considerations,” he says. “For staff, that’s their jobs and their security of livelihood. Unless they’re brave, they’re not going to report it. They’d be bringing the whole pack of cards down.”

My name is Anne Marie van Blijenburgh. I have been married for twenty four years to Kees van Korlaar. Together with his three brothers, Kees van Korlaar forms a criminal organization known as the Octopus Syndicate (ed. Note: This is a slang term in Holland for Ndrangheta, the modern Italian -based Mafia). They have worked from 1960 on to today. By order of Queen Beatrix they have organized the murder, torture, rape and killing of children in a public setting. They organized that through youth detention centers in the Netherlands.

The youth detention centers were told by the criminals that they were asking the Dutch court for children who could work for the Dutch Queen for a certain period. The detention centers were very happy; they thought that Queen Beatrix was a very social person, and they gladly volunteered in giving files of certain children to the criminals. When they wanted to verify what the criminals told them, they were given a name and a phone number of a high ranking officer in the court of Queen Beatrix, and that high ranking officer would tell them that indeed the criminals were seeking children to work for a certain period at the Dutch court.

After receiving files of approximately three children every time, the criminals selected a child that had no relative or family. They told the youth detention center that those are the ones we want; the youth detention center would give clothes to the child and put the child on the train to Zwolle.

In Zwolle, the criminals fetched the child from the station and brought it to a building that was equipped like a hotel but was not working as a hotel, although there were people in the lobby as if the hotel was working. The child was put on a table and was given something to drink and with that drink the child was drugged. Beside that hotel was a building where the performance took place.

In that building there were people were sitting down and at a certain moment the child was brought into that building by the criminals, was tortured, raped and brutally murdered in front of those people.

The audience was around Prince Johann Friso, the second son of Queen Beatrix. I was told that Johann Friso was quite insane and had an unhealthy interest in young children and had a psychiatrist with him every day of his life. That psychiatrist's name was Guus Pareau Dumont. The criminals organized those killings in accordance with Queen Beatrix. She paid for the killings.

And the criminals asked Johann Friso to bring his relatives and friends with him, so the whole building was filled with very important people from the Netherlands: ministers, high ranking officers and all kinds of people that the criminals could photograph so they could blackmail those people and get criminal advantages from that.

The people who I recognized there were Prince Johann Friso, his psychiatrist Guus Pareau Dumont; I recognized Johann's wife Mabel Wisse Smit; she was there with an old man, I think it was George Soros. I think that the words - 'crumbling damage control' are fit, those things are going to come out to the surface more and more for public scrutiny, while our society is about to find out just how much those horrendus acts are prevelent in earth as well as by whom. From then on it got to go deeper as to WHY these acts are happening and taking place by such 'civil' looking people.. and then there will have to be a major healing involved or if this possibility is not there, evil must be dissolved. I cry for these beautiful children and pray for the serenity of their soul. Hopefully this gruesome 'food chain' of possesed and possessings will end.

As human species we must adress our society's problems, look at it deep into the 'eyes',stand firm in our understanding of it and never allow.. We awe it to the many who have gone for the lack of our knowledge or care. Thank you for this thread and much love~

I agree, Christine, when looked by conscious awarness the field is changing.
Thank you very much for putting all these waves of information, feelings and energies outside in the air where they belong.. the controllers know the grid, know the energies and have a good perception of the formation of such reticulation, as previously they were constantly weaving their own. This is also a new era for them as their creations are now for the first time in millenniums being observed..

A grid is also formed by each one (a group or an individual) being called to a shared or to an individual task of their own, these patches on earth form a blanket that can not be intercepted when the clearing and cleaning is taking place

In 2004, I wrote a memoir about my childhood growing up as part a secret mind control experiment, one of hundreds across North America that operated under the black umbrella of the MK ULTRA program between 1953 and 1964.

As twin children of a Royal Canadian Air Force flight sergeant and his unwitting French-Canadian wife, my brother and I had been placed in a special program run out of McGill University`s Allan Memorial in downtown Montreal.

Based on two years and thousands of pages of research and correspondence with other survivors, my 400-page book recounted the story of a typical Canadian family caught up in a classified program most Canadians have never heard of, even now.

I thought I had solved a great mystery that had damaged my generation (Baby Boomers) and haunted me throughout my life. In Montreal it seemed everyone I spoke to knew someone, or had a family member who had been harmed by the same McGill doctors - psychiatrists and neurologists - I was investigating; including several heroes of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame. I had only to mention the subject and stories poured out, which explained so much about our collective and personal experience, that I was naively convinced that some brave Canadian publisher would pick it up and market it to a wide audience.

I was unprepared for what actually happened. Editors, agents and publishers I contacted not only rejected it flat out, but seemed to know all about the top secret program without reading past the blurb. Most declined or failed to respond to my emails and queries and, the few who did, said things which were downright weird, even slightly scary. "This book could never be published in Canada" - opined one Montreal editor, with astonishing self-assurance. How could she know that before she'd read it?

An Ontario publisher expressed interest, then avoided getting back to me with a response. "They will swoop down and lock her up --" he told a mutual friend who asked him what he thought. It didn't occur to me, back then, that grownup MK ULTRA children could have approached Canadian publishers over the years with similar stories of underground laboratories at universities and military bases, where children were kept in cages, raped, electroshocked, and worse.

Not taking no for an answer, I pitched my book to an agent who referred me to Anne Collins, editor/publisher at Harper Collins Canada, Governor-General winning author of In the Sleep Room, and the recognized "expert" on the infamous Allan Memorial Institute where Dr. Cameron [above], had carried on his CIA-funded experiments on adult mental patients. Reading her book, I began to suspect her of being an actual survivor of the program - she wrote with the claustrophobic air of having wandered the Allan's halls [Allan Memorial Institute (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allan_Memorial_Institute)] and knowing its secrets as only an inmate would. Given that she was my age, that would mean she was there as a child.

I wrote her a long email, detailing my amazing discoveries: like that Dr. Cameron was really the fall guy for a program that had employed Nazi doctors and others who used children as human lab rats. That some of the "disposable" children who died were Quebec Duplessis orphans and aboriginal children stolen from reserves and sacrificed to boost the careers of military scientists, including pillars of Canadian science and medicine.

I never heard back from Ms. Collins, but a few years later I attended a talk she gave to Creative Writing students at Concordia University. Oddly, that day a young man in the audience attempted to pitch a book to her - it was about a Montreal family which had been devastated by Dr. Cameron and sounded remarkably similar to my family story.

Collins dismissed him in a sentence or two: "That book has already been written," she said, "by me. You should move on."

She went on to defend McGill and Dr. Cameron. "He made his mea culpa," she says in a 2007 Scottish documentary called The Memory Thief, suggesting it's time to forgive and forget the man who reduced his patients to a vegetative state before sending them back to their families they often failed to recognize.

THE ULTIMATE TABOO-TRUTH
There is a list of taboo subjects that probably can get you locked up for mentioning them, One of them is that children were (and are still being) used in secret mind control research, funded by the Canadian, US and UK governments and their respective militaries, to benefit the war and aerospace industries.

It has taken me all these years to realize how this amnesia thing works. In the first place, Canadian publishing, which survives on government funding, appears to be an extension of military intelligence. Many people who occupied key positions in Can Lit (http://canlit.ca/) came from military intelligence backgrounds.

Should it shock anyone that Canada's literary world is controlled by intelligence operatives? Maybe not, given that south of the border, the CIA took over the world of publishing and media back in the 1950s. If you don`t believe that, watch the recent documentary on J.D. Salinger - who received mind control training at US overseas headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany, during and after the Second World War, and went on to appear on the cover of LIFE and TIME as the greatest writer of his generation on the basis of a single, first novel: Catcher in the Rye.

Salinger, the military operative turned culture hero, became the model that every young writer from Sylvia Plath to Leonard Cohen tried to imitate.

Can Lit (http://canlit.ca/)'s subjection to military projects is troubling, and not limited to a small gang in Toronto, although Ontario has always adored "British intelligence." The pattern shows up across the country, and the British-born son of an intelligence officer I met in Vancouver a few years ago confirmed that he had been trained and sent out as an agent, like his father before him, to monitor and report on Canadian culture. Both his marriages had been arranged by the military, with his wives acting as his handlers.

What are the odds of this happen by chance rather than design? There has been an underlying plan all along to control what Canadians read and think, and it was concocted by military minds, not regular folks like you and me.

Why would literature - which ought to be about awakening and reaching out -associate itself with the secrecy and suppression?

After the story of [I]My Cold War childhood had been rejected a few times, I decided to publish it myself. This meant I was forced to promote it, which usually means getting readings around Montreal. I thought the best way to go about this was to contact my writers' association. I learned that my association had been taken over by a tiny clique of women who had come to Montreal mostly from New York a few years earlier. Its 600+ membership list was kept secret, and two administrators answered all emails and phone inquiries, running the association as a private business although they depended on government grants to fund their programs.

Since the mid-90s, all readings were under the tight control of a woman who was good friends with the writers' association clique. In dealing with anyone from this group, I always hit the same wall. When I submitted my self-published book to their annual awards competition, I was told it was not eligible. When I questioned this, they told me an "ethics committee" was evaluating my book. I was not allowed to know who the members were.

On the day they were to render their decision, things got a little surreal. A man in a hat was sent to follow and question me. He appeared to be some sort of police informer. In an odd twist he was obviously one of the kids from the secret program at McGill. He also happened to be someone I slightly knew.

Clearly uncomfortable, he insisted on meeting me for coffee and made a clumsy attempt to interrogate me about my writing. I had the impression I had transgressed some CSIS protocol by writing about my childhood, and was now on some list. I also had the strong impression my writers' association had sent him.

Later at one of the controlled cultural events that now make up the "scene" in Montreal, and where my book MY COLD WAR was to be one of several "door prizes", members of the same clique caused it to mysteriously disappear. Afterwards, the administrator of my writers' association literally followed me around the entire evening, interrupting any conversation I started up with other attendees, until I finally left.

I learned the former Chairperson of my writers' association, was now Ombudsman for the McGill hospital that held my family's medical records dating back to the MK ULTRA program. After I spoke to her one day, she got on the phone and made sure I couldn't access them.

Through a long circuitous process I learned how a city can be placed under invisible lockdown as essential stories affecting thousands can be suppressed, public records hidden or destroyed, and memories erased through a system of collusion by guilty parties and institutions. In the process I also found myself not just isolated but almost criminalized for asking to know the truth about crimes against children which Canada hides behind a curtain of "national security."

This story may sound implausible and paranoid, but I suspect it will expand and deepen with the passing years, adding grist to conspiracy theories. It was shocking to see all this operating in my own backyard in the city of my birth, where I had lived for decades totally oblivious to the reality of my own past. Sometimes I had even worked for the same institutions who had funded and supported the secret program I had been part of as a child.

If it all sounds bizarre and dubious, consider this interesting fact: many of the culture czars and czarinas dominating Canadian culture today are children from the medical families who once profited from the CIA's unspeakable programs, while in the 80s and 90s, military intelligence agents controlled the publishing scene and the grant money supporting it.

Canada was created as a crown corporation for the enrichment of a small elite. Can Lit (http://canlit.ca/) was invented and sold to us as a distraction. Our writers have been purposely kept back from representing the truth about this country, now well on the way to collapse - the most obvious signs being the attack on our environment, social programs, and once-vital cultural institutions including the CBC and NFB. When did you last read a Canadian book that dealt honestly with the realities we currently are facing, and do you think that is an accident?

There should be a national outcry over stolen memories, but instead there's an eerie silence while the gap between the average Canadian and the official stars of publishing just keeps widening.

Observers watched with incredulity as Judge Michael Pert QC announced the news, resulting in a conviction of arson - reckless as to whether life was endangered, on February 1, and damaging property on June 26. Sentencing will take place in six weeks following a psychiatric report.

An absence of substantive evidence, coupled with irregularities in the conduct of the trial, has reinforced public opinion that Beechwood Children’s Home survivor, Melanie Shaw, is the victim of a carefully orchestrated establishment set-up intended to silence her and protect a high-ranking paedophile ring involved in crimes against children and child abuse (http://www.neonnettle.com/tags/child-abuse) - some of whom are said to have been murdered, committed suicide or disappeared without trace.

An orchestrated set-up
The prosecution argued that Melanie had set fire to a shed in revenge for a grudge against a neighbour who had alerted social services resulting in her child being taken away. But, strangely, no records were produced by the court to confirm there was any fire at the Sherwood address on February 1st.

Nottingham Police initially maintained that the fire took place on April 4th, a date which subsequently showed no official records of a fire. The police allegation of Melanie’s involvement in an arson attack on this date was effectively used to imprison her for three months in HMP Peterborough, one of the most brutal prisons in the country, where she was maltreated to the degree that she could barely walk on leaving.

The lay advocate and McKenzie Friend, acting on behalf of Melanie, told Neon nettle: “There’s been no evidence from the Fire Brigade about the fire. The evidence is just not there. There’s nothing that proves beyond reasonable doubt that it was Melanie who set that fire.”

Convicted without evidence
A handwriting expert was unable to confirm that that the graffiti on the side of the neighbour’s house was Melanie’s handwriting.

A bag holding the tins of paint had ten fingerprints on it. One, without paint, was claimed to be Melanie’s, while the remainder in paint, have not been forensically examined, according to the lay advocate, who took notes throughout the three-day trial.

Internet TV broadcaster and journalist at the UK Column, Brian Gerrish, who was present on the first day, also told Neon Nettle: “When the paint was thrown, the owner of the house told Melanie that he’d installed CCTV. Melanie said: ‘So since you told me, why would I then go and be recorded on CCTV throwing paint?’ But mysteriously, the day that the paint was thrown, the CCTV wasn’t working.”

The lay advocate, who has been a regular visitor to the prison and spent 24 hours a day with Melanie over the fourteen day bail period, said: “The street that Melanie lives on had been blighted by crimes which were never investigated. I just think Melanie is being targeted to be kept captive, and by keeping her captive their main aim is to keep under wraps everything she knows.”

“My feeling is that they will go to absolutely any cost to keep her quiet.”

The Judge fell asleep several times during the proceedings, noted by observers as a sign that his mind had been made up from the start. Two jurors were seen asleep during yesterday’s hearing.

The lay advocate added: “This case has been totally led, and the jury has been totally influenced by the judge. He’s directed them. He actually gave them a sheet of paper with directions on how they need to go forward. It’s all very odd.”

Several observers reported hearing the judge refer to the police investigation into Beechwood as a “conspiracy theory,” just before the jury was about to retire, despite at least ten individuals having been arrested and compensation awarded to a number of victims.

Further questions around the Judge have come to the fore since it was discovered that he was involved in a controversial decision to overturn a conviction on an HIV positive predatory paedophile.

Gerrish, who got to know Melanie before her arrest on July 10th, said: “As far as we are concerned, we think we’re very close to the total breakdown of law and order, because the police are obviously totally corrupt, but it extends to courts aswell.”
“My opinion is that Melanie is a truthful witness and I’m absolutely going to stand by the position that this woman has been silenced for one reason – to cover up the widespread abuse of children in Nottingham.”

A psychiatric report produced in the court said Melanie had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. To the many supporters who have been writing to her in prison, this will be hard to swallow.

“I think the prison is totally responsible for her current mental health,” added the lay advocate. “It’s been clear to me during the time I’ve been with her, that they’ve been gradually destabilising her. There’s been a massive impact with them messing about with her medication, not giving her full prescription medication as and when she’d ordinarily have it. That adds all sorts of consequences to a person’s functioning and mental health (http://www.neonnettle.com/tags/health). I think that her treatment within that institution is totally responsible for her current state of mind. They’ve gradually broken her down. I think they’ve been part of a plan to do that.”

The vast swathe of public support rooting for Melanie Shaw’s release, now stronger than ever, has reached into the glittering circles of showbiz, and the orbit of fellow Beechwood survivor, actress Samantha Morton.

Morton has already been in contact with Melanie, said the advocate, and asked to see her in prison. “I don’t know how they are going to meet, to be honest. I know that Samantha Morton is doing another film, and she said Nottinghamshire police have been giving her a horrific time. They’ve been interviewing her again. She said the way they treat you is quite horrific.”

Another Beechwood survivor who stepped forward, the brother of one of Melanie’s friends, tried to commit suicide several times, because each time he went to the police and gave a statement they insisted he goes for a three-month psychiatric assessment. The psychiatric assessments took him to the brink of suicide each time.

It’s happening to others, says the advocate, “each time anybody tries to come forward, and put in the public domain exactly what did happen to them as abused children, they are closed down. They didn’t have a voice when they were a child, and now as adults, they’re trying to raise awareness about it, and they are stopped.”

Despite the MP’s explosive intervention, Hale refused to hand over the papers which appeared to show that Leon Brittan, Margaret Thatcher’s Home Secretary, was fully aware of a pedophile network that included top politicians.

The editor’s resistance was futile; the following morning, police officers from the counter-terror and intelligence unit known as Special Branch burst into the newspaper office, seized the material and threatened to have Hale arrested if he ever reported what had been found.

Sexually molesting extremely small children is one of the most heinous acts a person can commit while existing as a human being on this planet. Since 99% of humanity agrees with this assessment, the incredibly small group of predators who get off on this sort of behavior understand they need to occupy the most elite levels of esteemed institutions in order to safely get away with their vile behavior. Of the developed nations, this sort of thing has essentially become institutionalized in Great Britain, with many of the most horrid pedophiles sporting a “Sir” in front of their names. Like oligarch theft and political corruption, the reason it appears to be such an epidemic over there is precisely because the powerful are coddled and protected.

More than 30 years later, an inquiry into allegations of child sex abuse rings, murder, and cover-ups has been launched by the British government after Scotland Yard detectives said they believed statements by victims (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/12/18/victim-i-watched-british-mps-sexually-abuse-murder-young-boys.html) who claimed they were systematically abused as young boys at sex abuse parties attended by judges, politicians, intelligence officers, and staff at the royal palaces.

Baroness Castle, then Barbara Castle, a Labour member of the European parliament, told Hale she did not trust Brittan to investigate the allegations thoroughly. “Barbara never said he was a pedophile, she was just very, very hostile about him. ‘He’s the last person you want this to go to,’ she said, which inferred that he was somehow involved,” Hale explained.

Worried about the integrity of the Home Office investigation, Castle had tried to interest the major newspapers in the classified documents but she turned to Hale when they rejected her overtures. “She was saying, ‘I’ve been everywhere else, I’ve been to the nationals, nobody would touch it with a barge pole, but what do you think?’” Hale recalled. “As a journalist of course I was interested.”

Great Britain’s notoriously tough libel laws insured that obviously he couldn’t repeat the allegations included in the Home Office papers that about 16 MPs and members of the House of Lords, and 30 high-profile figures from the Church of England, private schools, and big business, were members of, and advocates for, the Paedophile Information Exchange. The shadowy group, which operated partly in the open, campaigned for the age of consent to be abolished and incest to be legalized. It also allowed pedophiles to send each other secure mail and to meet in person.

Three vehicles pulled up to the newspaper offices and about 15 men barged inside. Two pushed him up against a wall and brandished a search warrant and something they described as a “D-notice.” The D-notice system was established in 1912 and was supposed to be used on very rare occasions when national security could be threatened by a news story.
Yep, as mentioned earlier, protecting powerful pedophiles really is considered a matter of national security in the UK.
The rest of the men were searching for the files, which they described as stolen, confidential Home Office papers. “These bully boys come storming in, they said, ‘We’re not here to negotiate. Hand them over or we’ll arrest you now.’ I couldn’t argue, because as soon as you opened the files it had got ‘Not to be removed’, ‘Confidential’ and ‘For your eyes only’—all these sort of things on them. I wouldn’t have had a hope in hell legally. I would have ended up in prison and the story would have gone nowhere,” he said.

Among the retired police officers Danczuk interviewed, one recalled the time Special Branch officers forbade them from asking a victim about Smith. Others remembered the day Smith was allowed to walk out of a police station without charge despite indecent images being found in his car after an unexplained telephone call from London.

It wasn’t just Special Branch that seemed keen to keep MPs out of the clutches of the law. In a candid interview for the BBC (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwkOWPauu_A) in 1995, Tim Fortescue, a former Conservative Party chief whip, described the grubby calculations routinely applied within elite political circles:

“Anyone with any sense who was in trouble would come to the whips and tell them the truth, and say now, ‘I’m in a jam, can you help?’ It might be debt, it might be a scandal involving small boys, or any kind of scandal which a member seemed likely to be mixed up in, they’d come and ask if we could help. And if we could, we did. We would do everything we can because we would store up brownie points. That sounds a pretty nasty reason but one of the reasons is, if we can get a chap out of trouble, he’ll do as we ask forever more.”

There is growing evidence that MI5 and MI6, Britain’s security services, took a similar view. MI5 is alleged to have repeatedly blocked investigations (http://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/feb/15/mi5-kincora-childrens-home-northwen-ireland-sexual-abuse) into a sex abuse ring at the Kincora children’s home in Northern Ireland in order to protect its intelligence-gathering operation.

The longtime deputy director of MI6, and former High Commissioner in Canada, Peter Hayman was himself allegedly a pedophile, and was ultimately named as such in parliament by Geoffrey Dickens. Hayman had been caught with explicit material in 1978 but no charge was brought. Secret files discovered at the National Archives this year revealed that the attorney general at the time believed it wasn’t in the public interest for Hayman to be prosecuted. When Clayton Ruby attended Forest Hill Academy, John Seeley tutored him in weekly private sessions from age ten. Nothing strange about that. Or the fact that Ruby's recently defended Benjamin Levin, Ontario's former deputy education minister, on child pornography and related charges. Levin is now serving a three-year sentence for pedophilia.

If Dave McGowan's "pedophocracy" really does rule western societies, then it would extend to Canada, wouldn't it? It would explain why a dead 'sadist and pedophile' is being dragged from his grave by cheerleaders for expanded mental health and sex education programs in Ontario.

For Seeley, "mental health" was obviously a way to get close to children. In the 1950s, he had himself analyzed by a sympathetic crony, Toronto psychiatrist Martin Fischer. Seeley shared his violent pedophile fantasies with Dr. Fischer, who never reported them to authorities. These confessions appear in an early version of Paul Bentley's PhD thesis on Seeley which he posted online on Scribd but has since revised, removing all references to pedophilia.

A trove of information, it exposes these two influential frauds, both connected to British intelligence and elite Toronto. Martin Fischer had to Canada as a Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany. Known to practice psychoanalysis without a licence, he was accused of abusing students at two of his Art Therapy Institutes in the 1980s and 90s.

When Paul Bentley interviewed Seeley in Los Angeles in the 1990s, he was shocked to find the great thinker living in a seedy neighbourhood of west L.A. posing as a 'child psychiatrist."

Seeley was eager to talk about the "military agenda" that had recruited him for peacetime projects. Eugenicists planned to use 'mental hygiene' to completely 'reorganize Canada.'

Who knew, back in the 1950s, Toronto's posh Forest Hills enclave (aka Crestwood Heights) would be the flagship community of a new National Health Project bringing together psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, educators, recreation specialists, sociologists to achieve "gratifying results."

According to Seeley, "A small cell within the military elite" including himself and Brock Chisholm (https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Brock_Chisholm) were "the masterminds behind the whole operation." Social control had a new disguise: "enlightened" therapy involving the entire population.

Baby Boomers would grow up rejecting parental authority only to become pawns of mass media and the emerging drug culture.

The only thing left was for the media to get involved. By the early 1950s, the National Film Board of Canada, transformed from wartime propaganda agency to become a tool for psychological war in peacetime, was promoting the new eugenics in a series of documentaries which trained Canadian parents to adopt the new, 'permissive' child-raising techniques popularized by Dr. Spock and American television programs like "I Love Lucy" and "Leave it to Beaver."

By the late sixties, the "reorganized" Canada was exporting its new culture to the world. The award-winning, deeply depressing "Warrendale" documentary unveiled the first generation to be raised under Canada's new, secret eugenics program.

Why isn't this history taught in schools? Because we're all products of it, and to question it would be like criticizing the very air we breathe.

Nearly 400 children have been rescued and 348 adults arrested following an expansive and "extraordinary" international child pornography investigation, Canadian police announced Thursday.

The three-year project, named Project Spade, began when undercover officers with the Toronto Police Service Child Exploitation service made contact with a Toronto man allegedly sharing "very graphic images" of child sexual abuse in Oct. 2010, Toronto Police Service Chief William Blair said at a press conference on Thursday.

Police said their investigation revealed an entire child movie production and distribution company in Toronto operating via the web site azovfilms.com. The site was run by 42-year old Brian Way, according to police, and sold and distributed images of child exploitation to people across the world.

Inspector Joanna Beaven-Desjardins, head of Toronto's Sex Crimes Unit, said they enlisted the help of the United States Postal Inspection Service since many of the videos were being exported to the U.S. and began a joint investigation. After a seven-month long investigation, officers executed search warrants across the city of Toronto including at the business, located in the city's West End. Investigators catalogued hundreds of thousands of images and videos of "horrific sexual acts against very young children, some of the worst they have ever viewed," Inspector Beaven-Desjardins said at the press conference.

Police seized over 45 terabytes of data from the $4-million business that distributed to over 50 counties including Australia, Spain, Mexico, Sweden and Greece. As a result of the investigation thus far, 50 people were arrested in Ontario, 58 in the rest of Canada, 76 in the United States, and 164 internationally.

What was most alarming, Inspector Beaven-Desjardins said, was that many of the arrests were of people who worked with or closely interacted with children. Among those arrested were 40 school teachers, nine doctors and nurses, six law enforcement personnel, nine pastors and priests and three foster parents, she said.

Citing a particularly egregious example, she said police found over 350,000 images and over 9,000 videos of child sexual abuse in the home of a retired Canadian school teacher. Some of the images were of children known to the man and he was also charged with sexually abusing a child relative.

The inspector said an indispensable aspect to the success of the operation and the rescue of 386 children from child exploitation was the expansive cooperation between Toronto police and organizations worldwide. "[This] confirms that when we work together regardless of the borders that divide us we can successfully take down those who not only prey on our most vulnerable but also profit from it," she said.

Police said the children were "rescued from child exploitation" but did not give more details. Way was charged with 24 counts, including possession of, distribution of, and importing and exporting child pornography.

The investigation is ongoing and more arrests could be made, police said.

Angelina Jolie has resurfaced, and this time she is really concerned about the well-being of children everywhere. She has told the International Criminal Court:

“I particularly welcome the commitment to include charges for crimes against children wherever the evidence permits as part of a more systematic approach. Feldman, who was raped at the age of eleven and who then took drugs in order to exorcise what had been done to him, writes in his memoir:
“How does this happen? How do so many innocent, talented, and even famous children wind up suffering in silence? The obvious answer is that pedophiles will flock to an industry where they can surround themselves with eager, ambitious children.

Actor Elijah Wood said pretty much the same thing. He went even further to say that those pedophiles are “vipers.” Wood declared:
“Clearly something major was going on in Hollywood. It was all organized. There are a lot of vipers in this industry, people who only have their own interests in mind. There is darkness in the underbelly.

“What bums me about these situations is that the victims can’t speak as loudly as the people in power. Obviously there is more to Angelina Jolie than meets the eye and ear. She has acted in multiple movies which display the opposite message of what she is now saying. Jolie ought to know that studies show that visual images, for good or bad, have a tremendously powerful influence on children and teenagers.

That is why Hollywood celebrities and entertainers such as Madonna, Mayim Bialik, William H. Hacy, Helen Hunt, Hugh Jackman, Megan Fox, among others, do not allow their children to watch TV. When it comes to protecting their own sons and daughters, these people are extremely radical! Listen very carefully to Madonna on how she educates her own daughter:

Publicly, yes. Privately, Brad Pitt would say no. Pitt claims that he has a tape in her possession which would drive Jolie nuts. “A source who LISTENED to the tapes exclusively revealed…that Brad whined to Ron , ‘During sex [Angie] liked to cut herself and have all the blood drip on [him] but he wasn’t into that.’”

This is not far-fetched at all. Jolie, who admitted that she was “very sexual in kindergarten,” declared that as a teenager:

“I had started having sex with my boyfriend and the sex and the emotions didn’t feel enough. I was no longer a little girl. In a moment of wanting to feel closer to my boyfriend I grabbed a knife and cut him. He cut me back.

“We had an exchange of something and we were covered in blood, my heart was racing. Then whenever I felt trapped, I’d cut myself. I have a lot of scars. During their last days, Jolie accused Pitt of attacking their children, but there seems to be evidence to the contrary. The point here is that Jolie is out of touch with reality when she is trying to get the best of both worlds: she says she wants to protect children, but in her own professional life she morally and spiritually kills children. In that sense, she and Aleister Crowley have something in common.

Have you noticed that this comment from Madonna, although looking as a concern parent comments at first glance, is in fact a me myself and I comment. She is concerned about being the boss (alright, a parent must be), she wants to teach discipline as she has for her own career, which could be fine, she does not want to cave in, which is fine too, at first glance, but the whole reason for it is that "they are goins to ruin your life" and not that they have to grow to be at their best development, the maximum of who they are. Her purpose is fundamentally selfish. And the subtlety of behaviors with those elite is always that fine, the fine line, being crossed. Although I did believe that children need discipline for themselves (not harshness, but softly induced discipline), although I think they should not be brainwashed with television and all, although I think the parent is the ultiimate responsible for his children welfare, my targets are for my own kids development, after measuring and seeing their basic talents and beings, as they are fundamentally. Otherwise you do it for yourself and end up crushing the child, not helping him to develop. IMO

The Berlin Senate financed a project in which street children were taken care of by pedophiles. Researchers working on the case have criticized the authorities for their lack of clarification.

Employees of the Berlin Senate Administration knew that men who were employed as foster fathers in the 1970s were condemned pedophiles. This is evidenced by a study by the Göttingen-based scientist who investigated the involvement of the Senate with the pedophiles. This is what Spiegel reports in its current issue.

Helmut Kentler, a researcher who was employed at the Pedagogical Center in Berlin, had convinced the employees of the Senate for Youth to place the teenagers in the custody of pedophiles.

In return, these men expected sexual acts. According to the study, the adolescents were between 13 and 17 years old. The researchers also found a link to the Odenwald School: the Berlin Senate sent boys to the boarding school, where many young people were abused.

The Senate is now asked to investigate whether the boys sent there, have been victims of sexual abuse.

The researchers are disappointed by the information provided by the Berlin authorities: "We would have wanted more commitment in their clarification," said Teresa Nentwig to Spiegel, the director of the study.

The documents on Kentler's project were made available only upon request. Many of the files in the National Archives are not yet opened. A request for shortening the period of protection of an important file was rejected.

Britain’s historical child sex scandal has hit record proportions with nearly 3,500 people now under investigation over claims of abuse.

The number of suspects has more than doubled over the last 18 months, with 366 public figures now standing accused of ‘non-recent’ child sex offenses (https://www.rt.com/uk/362757-goddard-sex-abuse-racist/). In sports alone the number has risen threefold since last November, after allegations of abuse in football academies and junior league teams exploded.

Statistics released by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) as part of Operation Hydrant show that while in May 2015 there were 1,433 suspects listed, the number had risen dramatically to 3,469 by December 2016. The number of people identified as victims stands at 3,531, with 74 percent of those who had come forward being men.

Football allegations worse than thought
Between November and December this year the number of sports organizations investigated by the police rose from 26 to 74 due to several former footballers coming forward with claims of abuse as young children (https://www.rt.com/uk/367684-tinder-teens-nspcc-sex/).

A wave of complaints hit the police after Andy Woodward – a former professional at Bury and Sheffield United – waived his anonymity to openly talk about his alleged serial rape by youth coach and convicted pedophile Barry Bennell (https://www.rt.com/sport/370286-british-football-sex-abuse-scandal/).

According to the NPCC there are now 429 identified victims in the world of sports, nearly all of whom are men. The police believe that children as young as four might have fallen victim to pedophiles operating inside the sports industry, with the eldest survivors being 20 years old. “The numbers keep growing,” said Norfolk Police Chief Constable Simon Bailey, who is leading the child abuse case for the NPCC. “We are dealing with some of the most complex investigations you can imagine. Bailey added that the police are “ensuring an efficient and effective service-wide approach to investigating allegations, removing the potential for duplication and enabling the timely and effective sharing of intelligence and information between forces.

“We are also liaising closely with the Football Association to ensure all relevant information they hold is shared to inform investigations moving forward.

“We will listen and treat all reports sensitively and seriously. Anyone with any information regarding child sexual abuse is also urged to come forward. When allegations are reported it enables police to assess whether there are current safeguarding risks and ensure that appropriate action is being taken to prevent children being abused today.”

Beginning on Jan. 1, prostitution by minors will be legal in California. Yes, you read that right.

SB 1322 bars law enforcement from arresting sex workers who are under the age of 18 for soliciting or engaging in prostitution, or loitering with the intent to do so. So teenage girls (and boys) in California will soon be free to have sex in exchange for money without fear of arrest or prosecution.

This terribly destructive legislation was written and passed by the progressive Democrats who control California's state government with a two-thirds "supermajority." To their credit, they are sincere in their belief that decriminalizing underage prostitution is good public policy that will help victims of sex trafficking. Unfortunately, the reality is that the legalization of underage prostitution suffers from the fatal defect endemic to progressive-left policymaking: it ignores experience, common sense and most of all human nature — especially its darker side.

An independent investigation into Choate Rosemary Hall, an elite private boarding school in Connecticut once attended by John F. Kennedy, has found a four-decade pattern of teacher sexual misconduct that was often swept under the rug.

The 48-page report named 12 adults who worked at Choate and engaged in sexual misconduct with students between 1963 and 2010. In a letter to the school's community and alumni, administrators noted that the report described "numerous instances of adult sexual misconduct in Choate's history," including "the deeply disturbing experiences of 24 survivors."

"The detailed content of this report is devastating to read. One can only have the greatest sympathy and deepest concern for the survivors," the school wrote. "The conduct of these adults violated the foundation of our community: the sacred trust between students and the adults charged with their care."

The students were both male and female, while the faculty were all men. In some instances, the sexual relationships lasted for months, including after the students had left the school.

The independent investigation began in October 2016 after the school received "specific reports" of "adult sexual misconduct with students at Choate Rosemary Hall, The Choate School, and Rosemary Hall." Nancy Kestenbaum of Covington & Burling LLP, an experienced investigator and former prosecutor was hired to conduct the probe.

Kestenbaum looked into a broad range of "inappropriate behaviors" under the umbrella of "sexual misconduct." Since the 1970s, the school's policies have explicitly forbidden "sexual relationships or deep emotional attachments" between teachers and students. The investigation's mandate did not include student-on-student sexual misconduct, nor did it include a legal analysis - only "factual reporting."

The reports of such misconduct, which began in the 1960s and continued through the present, were "distributed in a rough bell curve, with the greatest number of reports concerning incidents in the 1980s, with roughly half that number in the 1970s and 1990s," the investigation found. There were a "handful of reports" in the 2010s, but none involved a current Choate student.

One of the men named in the report, Spanish teacher Jaime Rivera-Murillo, was accused of raping a 17-year-old female student in a swimming pool in Costa Rica after drinking heavily with a group of students in 1999.

He was also accused of inappropriately touching a female student's breast on the same school trip. Rivera-Murillo was promptly called back to the US and fired for "just cause."

Although the school did not provide Rivera-Murillo a letter of recommendation, it did not warn other schools of the reasons behind his firing, a practice known as "passing the trash."

Thus, he later served as a teacher or administrator at a number of schools, including as the principal of Wamogo Regional High school in Litchfield, Connecticut. When Choate learned of his position earlier this year, the school wrote to the district superintendent. He was placed on leave in March, and resigned on April 6.

While some of the victims said they were "flattered" by the attention at the time, they told investigators "they later recognized that the conduct had been abusive. They described Choate faculty and staff engaging in acts with them that included intimate kissing, intimate touching, and sexual intercourse."

Others, however, said that, as students, they knew the faculty or staff members' actions were abusive, "including forced or coerced intercourse, as well as other incidents of unwanted contact that led students to feel betrayed by faculty or staff they had trusted and admired."

"Regardless of how the graduates felt at the time, many reported to us that these physical or sexual encounters with faculty or staff, who had occupied positions of authority and trust, disturbed them throughout their adult lives," the investigation found.

The investigation revealed that the school did not begin to address issues of sexual misconduct at an institutional level through more comprehensive policies and more frequent training until Edward Shanahan became the headmaster, a role he served in from 1991 to 2011.

His approach to sexual misconduct began even before he received reports of inappropriate behavior between employees and students, which he and other administrators cited as a trigger for increased focus on these issues. The current headmaster, Alex Curtis, continued those policies.

There was no pattern to the school's responses to reports of sexual misconduct, though they were handled "internally and quietly" when substantiated.

"When a faculty member was a long-term and admired teacher, action sometimes came more slowly," the investigation found. "On at least one occasion, a faculty member remained until his voluntary retirement, some ten years after a student reported an incident of sexual misconduct."

Although Connecticut law has required the reporting of suspected child abuse or neglect to the state's Department of Children and Families (DCF) since 1965 and labeled teachers as mandatory reporters since 1967, Choate did not make any sexual misconduct reports to DCF before 2010. Other than one incident report in 2010, the remainder occurred during two months in 2016.

The school previously investigated reports of sexual misconduct after two graduates recounted experiences in the spring of 2013. However, Choate did not appoint the independent investigator until after the Boston Globe began publishing a series of articles about sex abuse at New England private schools, which led to a similar investigation at Rhode Island's St. George's School, another elite boarding school.

Elite boarding schools like Choate and St. George's provide an opportunity for such sexual misconduct to occur because of their insular nature, Paul Mones, a lawyer who represents victims of sexual abuse, told the New York Times.

"They are closed systems, especially residential private schools where kids are separated from their parents," he said. "It's not like a public school, with people coming in and out all the time. There are many more opportunities for teachers to do this."

Kestenbaum agreed with Mones in the report, noting that the "inherent intimacy of a boarding school environment... in which faculty advisers live in student dorms and are expected to visit students in their rooms, in which teachers have students into their apartments on occasion, and in which adults and adolescents sometimes travel off campus together, requires particular vigilance."

The report did not make any recommendations as to how the school should proceed, as that was not part of the investigation's mandate. Choate has, however, established an independent therapy fund to assist alumni who experienced adult sexual misconduct as students, including offering immediate crisis counseling and providing a fund to help pay for current therapy needs.
