I agree with you, wholeheartedly. What convinced me is the following video of him toeing the establishment line on the issue of 9/11/2001:

Mind you, he may yet be a decent guy without the system; but since he works within the system and, indeed, is one of its heavily promoted faces, he cannot be trusted as an authority on anything (even particle physics, his touted area of expertise).
