There's an opt out form that has been and is still being sent out in the UK.
People can sign to opt of their details being sold to private companies.
Whether this has been received yet depends on the region you are in.

There's a petition demanding that Jeremy Hunt stops this

I strongly recommend the Brits here opt out using that form.
Perhaps you might wish to make this info viral as I haven't seen much of this on the internet.

Ahem, Lance, we need to have a quiet word man-to-man about Guin.
LOL!

Re: opt out form.
I popped into the surgery to ask about them
The receptionist said they were sent out in the last 2 weeks but I haven't seen anything in the post.
So I took some forms away to complete.
I'd tell people to go to their clinic to get the forms.
But someone in another forum said they got theirs in Dec and he's already dealt with his.
If people are not careful, their DNA data will eventually be sold on, once they collate that information.

I do not live in the UK, I live in the US, and I can imagine with Obamas new health scam, we are next for this kind of patient confidentiality breach of the worst kind. this is so outrageous that I cannot even believe it. I pray that you all get this game turned around.

I opted out with a quick phone call to my GP.

UK national health records database to have ‘backdoors’ for police, govt?

.... the health officials are also blamed for making data collection an opt-out, rather than opt-in, which means that many Britons may part with confidential information about them without even knowing it.

But apparently even an informed decision not to participate will not spare a person from having his or her health records sucked into the database. And police will be able to access them without a court warrant while investigating serious crimes, David Davis MP, a former shadow home secretary, told the Guardian.

"The idea that police will be able to request information from a central database without a warrant totally undermines a long-held belief in the confidentiality of the doctor-patient relationship," he said.

The police will have to provide the correct identity of a suspect to request his or her medical records, Davis said, citing Health Services Minister Dan Poulter, who revealed the existence of such ‘backdoors’ in parliamentary questioning.

“When we have police accessing from a database that people have opted out from, and companies being able to buy this data, I think we need to have a debate about whether my property, which are my patient records, can be sold and used," Davis said....

Guys, there more to this than that opt-out form.
There's another data harvesting and sale scheme that you need to opt out from as well and it looks really bad.
Someone's done a bit of research into this and you can read about it at:
