EDIT:

Now I get it. I was sitting here reading your post yesterday, thinking: 'that is one odd post I am reading over here, hm.'
Took me a while to figure out your reasons. :juggle:

:ranger:Sorry, i've should put clearer description from the beginnig. Better later than never. So here it goes. The WiReD magazine article describes a scientific paper dealing with reports from around the world on crocodiles ability to climb trees. Seriously

That's a survival technique croc's learned after the big oil spill in the gulf a few years ago. They needed to get out of the water or die. Either that or it's just waiting for the tide to come back in again.

Either that or it's just waiting for the tide to come back in again. :laugh:The report indicates sightings all around the world (where crocks can be stumbled on ofc) and also before the gulf oil spill. Also tides raise water surface at ~0.5 m (~1.8 ft) max. And the report tells of crocks seen at ~9m (30 ft) heights.

Compare a bear paw:

With a crock paw:

It surely can be of some help when climbing up the tree trunk.

Note: Not all crocks have such sharp and long claws, most have short, blunt or broken claws.

Maybe that is the reason you don't usually see crocks up there hanging from the tree ;)
